Here is the next chapter of my story. Please read and review love Sag x
Once the speech was over everyone rose to their feet. The prefect came down to the first years introducing himself. "First years I am prefect Gabriel Truman and this is Prefect Penelope Clearwater. We will lead you to our house common room now. Follow us please!" he said kindly as Harry looked at him in awe. He wasn't in awe for no reason either. Percy Weasley had barked orders at them the last time having no patience when they stopped to view everything new. He'd been angry and impatient and it had scared them and shown easily. Padma grabbed his hand as the other first years looked on in awe. It was so natural to them that they didn't even think anything of it. Cho glared at Padma stunned totally when Harry glared at her. He wasn't about he wasn't about to deal with another jealous bitch acting rashly because of him. It wasn't on.
As they left the great hall they turned left and went down the same corridor the Gryffindor students were taking. Yet again Percy was screaming at the first years to keep up. They exited the corridor in the mass of moving staircases. "This is main thoroughfare. As you can see all the staircases move but don't worry this is normal and they are meant to do that. Follow me please!" he said kindly eyeing Percy in disgust which seemed to momentarily shock him before he got back to screaming at the first years who looked terrified of him. He seemed satisfied at that as it meant he'd get to bed sooner. He was exhausted and out of patience. They slowly climbed the stairs stopping a few times to converse with portraits as Gabriel and Penelope watched on fondly. Professor Flitwick always allotted time for exploration on their way to the house the first night as he knew how cool it could look. They eventually reached a long corridor filled the portraits and statues. He led them to a statue of Athena which he stopped in front of.
"Now you will hear rumours that we enter our house via a spiral staircase but that is only a rumour spread around to stop people finding our illustrious house. Rowena Ravenclaw our founder believed having two ways to enter the house to be the smartest and safest things to do as you couldn't be easily attacked that way. This here is Athena who guards the entrance to Ravenclaw. Take out your wand and tap once anywhere on her and say open and she'll move aside like so!" he said doing as described as Athena bowed once to him and shifted to the side revealing a rounded room inside which was a giant blue door with a golden eagle knocker on it. They all walked in with him delighted to have such a cool entrance to their house. Next he rapped the knocker against the door three times as the eagle appeared to come to life.
"To gain entrance we must knock three times with the knocker and then answer the riddle or question it asks us. If you don't know the answer then you must wait until either someone exits or someone who knows the answer comes before you can get in!" he explained as Ron gasped. That was madness. If they didn't know the answer they'd be stuck outside for hours.
What has a beginning but no end? It asked as Gabriel watched to see who would get the answer first. It was Padma who answered with the word time. It agreed that she was correct and the door swung open at once. They all walked in gasping. The room was round in colour and the walls were covered in some sort of midnight blue silk covering. The ceiling was domed and contained many golden constellations and stars. It was very celestial and relaxing. In the far side of the room was a recess containing two round doors, a statue of Rowena Ravenclaw and many bookshelves full of books. The main room itself contained many midnight blue couches with plush cushions on them and various desks for studying at. There were a few chaise lounges too. In the middle of the room was circular fireplace which contained a roaring fire above which was a portrait of Rowena Ravenclaw who bowed deeply at then welcoming them to her illustrious house.
Shortly after this Professor Flitwick came in thanking Penelope and Gabriel for their hard work. "Good evening everyone I'm Professor Flitwick your head of house. I teach charms class here and you will find me in here each evening for two hours from seven thirty until nine thirty. I will be in here so you may ask me anything at that time if you need help with anything. As all houses have internal rules so too does the illustrious house of Ravenclaw and I will go through them now!" he said conjuring himself a comfortable chair while gesturing for them to sit on the couches in front of him. Harry sat down pulling Padma down beside him rubbing her hand with his thumb in a soothing way as he held it.
"Good now then let's begin. Rule number one is that for me stupid questions do not exist. You may ask me anything at any time and I will always answer you without judgement. Rule number two is that if for any reason I cannot be here myself of an evening former Ravenclaw Professor Babbling will be here for the two hours to help you out. Rule number three is that you should only ever attempt to aid someone who is sick if you are sure you know how to do it otherwise call me at once!" he said making sure they were all listening to him. It was important to see that they all heard and understood him so far.
"Rule number four is that you must never overwork or over do your studies even if we are known as Hogwarts smartest house. You must work smart and not hard. Rule five you must never bully another person in your year and that does include name calling, stealing their things and casting spells at them etc. Do not do it you will not win! Rule six you must have constant vigilance and never underestimate anything or anyone. Take me as an example. As you can see I am very short indeed but I am a charms expert and could wipe the floor with any opponent who might mistakenly think me weak because of my height!" he said very seriously to get his point across. He needed them to see that even he who was very small in height could be mighty in magical stature because of his immense skill.
"You will hear that Ravenclaw is accessed using a spiral staircase which we now know not to be true but should you hear that I want you to agree with it. Also all houses in the school have common dormitories except for Ravenclaw. Rowena believed that a shared dormitory did not promote focus and that with all the added noise one couldn't sleep properly. If you didn't sleep properly it affected your studies the next day as well. In this vein everyone sleeps in a room with two people assigned to each room as opposed to ten or so in a dorm. With you sharing your room with only one other person you can live and study harmoniously. Remember all the houses have traits which define them but are not concrete so we here can be cunning and brave just as much as Gryffindor or Slytherin for example. Goodnight. You will find all your things are already in your rooms and that your names are on the doors. Mr Potter please come over here for a moment" he said dismissing everyone as Padma pecked his lips quickly and bid him goodnight. He went over to where Filius was standing.
"You wished to talk with me Professor are you ok?" he asked kindly. Not here five minutes and already Filius was way better then Minerva had been. She was busy tonight however dealing with the widespread rioting and vandalism of Gryffindor house by its members who all blamed one another because Harry wasn't in their house like his parents were.
"Yes indeed I wanted to speak to you because my cousin Ripjaw told me to speak with you about the Addlemore family. We have an alliance with them and I have no idea how you fit in. Do you understand what he meant?" he asked as Harry chuckled.
"Yes I do. I did an inheritance test a few years back. I am Lord Addlemore but please keep this to yourself. What did this alliance entail? I am assuming you wish to keep it going" he said wisely as Filius looked momentarily stunned but got himself together again.
"Yes I would very much like to keep this going. We have an alliance where both families conduct Herbology excavations all around the globe and share produce as and when required. With this alliance we are able to access rare Herbology items for the goblin hoard and in turn share our rare ingredients with you for the benefit of both Herbology and potion making. Do you agree to continue this alliance? I just thought I should bring this up now so it can be out of the way at once!" he explained as Harry's eyes lit up.
"Professor I would be honoured. I had no idea about that. I mean think of all the things I could learn. Oh this will be great!" he enthused as Flitwick laughed and bid him good night. He could already see why Harry was a member of his house. Harry walked down the corridor towards his new home for the next year being sure to check the door for names. Eventually he found his door and saw to his delight he was sharing with Ron. This would be such fun. He entered a gasped. Boy had Gryffindor been dull in comparison. There in the centre of the room were two large single four poster beds with luxurious posts made of mahogany wood on which were strung some velvet midnight blue and golden coloured curtains. The furnishings on the bed were silk and felt very luxurious indeed. There was a night stand on either side of the beds and facing each bed was a wardrobe and storage area where their trunks had been placed by the elves. Coco was now in her bed purring at the softness as she slept. Beside the wardrobes were two desks for studying and homework needs and in the middle of the room was a tiny round fireplace which was lighting and giving the room some much needed warmth.
To the left was a door leading into their bathroom. He still remembered all the Gryffindor boys having to share one toilet and how messy that had been. This bathroom contained one toilet, a vanity with two sinks and plenty of storage for their skin care products and so on. There were two showers in stalls in one corner and a medium sized bath in the other corner. This bathroom had a window which looked out at the quidditch pitch to Harry's delight. The only thing he wouldn't miss would be Ron's damn snoring. He dressed for bed and wished Ron goodnight. Ron was already getting into bed at this point and was too tired to say much else. He just agreed and said goodnight. Both of them were asleep before their heads had hit the pillow. What a day.
