A/N: The sports festival in the main timeline happens, by my estimate, about 1 month into the year, so just before or after Japan's Golden Week, (a set of national holidays at the end of April and early May) given what we've seen from the USJ arc and Sports Festival arc (the latter mentions it's 2 weeks after the USJ incident and the former presumably happened about a week in)

Since the USJ trip is likely another standard affair, having them go made sense (especially since the QAT, which presumably takes the place of the standard Japanese Vocational Aptitude Test given to first years, happens during that first week too)

That's my take on the timeline, anyway, for reference.

It was 1-A's second day at UA now, after the QAT and some basic introductions to their courses, and their first day they would actually spend doing proper heroics courses, such as UA's specialty, that of course being Foundational Heroics. Of course, the whole class was ecstatic, especially when Mr. Aizawa walked in that morning and made an announcement.

"Alright, for your first Heroics class, meet me at Ground Sigma after lunch with your prototype costumes, made by our own Support department. Don't be late." Saying this, he went back to take a nap, while the students began to talk amongst themselves.

"You know, I heard this rumor that we may start getting guest lecturers this year," said Senko.

"Really?" asked Kochi. "From where?"

"I think I saw something about that," added Kyo. "Hey, Aki-kun, have you seen that article that's making the rounds on Geddit?"

"What, the one saying All Might's coming?" Aki was incredulous. "That can't be right."

"I dunno, he is an alumni," said Neppa. "Although it'd probably be someone else…"

"Not Endeavor, that's for sure," said Kyofu. "You guys heard about what happened to his kid Touya right? Nasty stuff."

"Well, whoever's coming," said Katsu, "It's gonna be one hell of a class."

At that moment the bell rang, and 1-A filed out of the room to head to class.

Soon enough it was the afternoon, and the class was off to Ground Sigma. When they got there, they found a large bunker waiting for them, the large gate on the outside firmly shut. Aizawa was there to meet them, and ordered them to the locker room.

Once everyone had changed into their prototype costumes, they came back outside, allowing them all to take a good look at the costumes of the others. For his part, Tenko's costume was fairly simple; a black shirt and brown pants with his signature gloves, and a handprint logo on the shirt.

Kaoruko's was a lot more out there, with a special face mask and a very high cut white crop top, plus some shorts with a simple utility belt. The belt itself contained several additives to change the scent of a particular bubble as needed.

Neru had opted for a design invoking chains, with special bracelets hooked to his shoulders and a large chain for a belt; his full body suit even had a lock pattern. The chains were made of an aluminum alloy, thus making them fairly lightweight while still packing a punch when needed.

Hyou's all-white jumpsuit included swirl-like patterns all over it as well as teardrop-shapes evoking streaming hail along his arms, as well as a grey storm cloud pattern around his knees. The entire suit was also temperature regulated, and included portable cooling devices to maintain his hail clouds.

Chikara's was a black bodysuit that reached to her elbows and knees, and it included a prominent jagged wave pattern; this pattern ran along her arms and shoulders, as well as down the sides of her legs, all emanating from a point above her sternum. The suit itself was designed to stretch and shrink to conform with any shifts in applied force when she released her shockwaves, and included a pair of boots with retractable cleats for extra stability.

Senko's costume was a grey shirt with black pants, with a starburst pattern on the shirt, as well as a pair of polarizing sunglasses. It also contained two special devices on his wrists; each one absorbed and concentrated light he emitted and released it as a singular beam, courtesy of Kochi's suggestion.

Henko, meanwhile, was wearing a green suit with black highlights styled after a rebound shot or a reflected blast or beam, and all of his joints had specialized padding that aided in the kinetic absorption that powered his rebound abilities. This included very large rubber sole boots.

Seiden wore a black shirt and pants, with metal screws in her shoes' high grip soles and special pads around her waist to help her charge up and release her own electric current.

Jiki's costume included a dual-color motif, a red plus on one shoulder and a blue minus on the other, with another red/blue split at the belt around her waist. Otherwise, her suit was grey, though it contained several metallic segments for her to magnetize if she so chose. This also included a few High Density Seals she stored in her pants pocket.

Namiutsu wore a grey shirt and khaki pants, the shirt itself containing an odd geoid pattern on his back that seemed to stretch and compress in places, leaving trails of dust and dirt that stretched to his wrists. His boots also had steel soles so that in a pinch he could crack the dirt or rock he was standing on to get some extra chunks of material.

Retsu's costume was another dual-color motif, only this time it was a dark brown body suit with a jagged black wedge right down the middle of the torso; similar cracks lined her other joints, and her boots also had cleats to ensure she wouldn't stumble. She also wore a breastplate and helmet to prevent loose chunks from hitting vital areas.

Kakucho wore a light blue shirt and dark blue pants, with a series of white circles reaching up his torso and gradually expanding into an explosion pattern on his chest. He had two bracers on his wrists to help keep hold of objects as they grew larger.

Ai's costume was a grey suit with that had a blue scouter, and it also included a projector that outlined any details she noticed as she watched something. The scouter had a function to prevent dry eyes when staring too long at an object.

Kyofu, meanwhile, had a tornado pattern emblazoned on her dark green bodysuit, which was especially tight to ensure it wouldn't get torn off by her own wind, with special fans on her elbows and knees to redirect wind away from her body.

Ugoki had opted for a light purple shirt and a pair of navy blue pants, with a light blue wave pattern on his shoulders, wrists, and on the belt he wore. The patterns on his wrists also held speakers while the belt carried High Density Seals; the former helped aid his concentration while the latter served as ammunition.

Misshu had on a dark grey bodysuit that had a compacting cube for an emblem on his upper torso, with several green lines with nodes at his joints. He had on a dark grey helmet as well, this primarily to ensure any particularly dense object didn't hit him in the head. Said helmet even had air pumps to ensure if he accidentally made a black hole, he'd still be able to breathe.

Kyo's costume was a light green sleeveless bodysuit that had, of course, a spiral pattern, right there on his upper chest. He had goggles, too, which prevented spiraling objects from throwing off his vision or hitting his eyes, and the entire suit was designed to resist extreme torsion if he needed to rapidly spin himself around.

Kochi's costume was actually fairly similar to Ai's; it was blue, yes, and the scouter was only for one eye, but it included projectors on his wrists. Two of them, actually, and they would automatically display whatever blueprints he would normally make appear with his hands on their screens.

Neppa had gone with a swirling orange flame wrapping around her legs and arms surrounding a grey inner core, with in-built cooling systems for herself and several containers along a belt on her waist. These containers mostly had extra flammable or explosive material.

Katsu's costume was probably the weirdest of the bunch: it was in several distinct pieces, for one, with blue sleeves, a purple torso, dark grey shorts, and black fingerless gloves, but for another, the costume was designed from his own DNA, meaning that it, too, could split off when he split off. Topping it all off was the cap: it was a fairly simple grey cap, with a symbolic representation of his ability to create copies of his own extant body parts.

Once everyone was ready, Katsu noticed the similarity between Ai's and Kochi's costumes. "Kagi-san, Sekkei-kun, what's with the similarity?"

Ai shrugged, but Kochi ran through his own theory. "Just yesterday Kagi-san had been the one to use blueprints I had developed to ensure the validity of our Quirk Assessment, so potentially subconsciously we both chose similar elements to add to our own costumes."

"…Or you two like each other and wanted to match," said Kakucho. "Come on, I know you guys can see it, right? Right?"

"Just you, Juji-kun," said Retsu. "I doubt they even knew each other before this, which would be my only explanation for your theory."

Suddenly Ai coughed. "Actually we… went to the same middle school."

"Huh," Kaoruko said. "Maybe Juji-kun's on to something!"

"He's not!" Ai shouted. "We're friends, that's all…" Even as she said this, Kochi very subtly deflated. Ugoki, who was used to paying attention to others' thoughts, noticed.

"Uh, Sekkei-kun? You seem kinda down after Kagi-san said that…" he commented.

"It's nothing," he said, though he wasn't very convincing.

"What?" Tenko asked. "That's clearly not nothing, Sekkei-kun. Dude, if you did like her you should say something! Uh… after class, that is."

"Shimura-kun's right," added Senko, "if you're struggling with it that much, Sekkei-kun, I think you two should, I don't know, talk it out?"

Suddenly Aizawa coughed. "If you kids are done trying to play matchmaker, I have a class to teach. Get yourselves into trios. We're doing hostage rescue." That shut up the class, and soon enough, they got to work on their very first heroics lesson, though Kochi did ask about uneven teams. Aizawa's response was to just deal with it.

The actual exercise pitted each team against a Victory-type bot (the 2 pointers) guarding a small room deep within the large bunker placed in the area filled with several hostages. (mannequins) Each team would have 10 minutes to get to the hostages and successfully extract them all the way outside without causing them any injuries. Afterwards, the students would vote on who on each team had contributed the most to the objective, and thus would earn MVP. The teams were:

Team 1: Hyou Arashi, Kyofu Kogeki, Ugoki No

Team 2: Chikara Eikyo, Namiutsu Ishi, Neppa Tatsuma

Team 3: Kaoruko Awata, Henko Choku, Retsu Jishin

Team 4: Jiki Inryo, Kyo Rasen, Neru Shoyu

Team 5: Kakucho Juji, Misshu Omo, Kochi Sekkei

Team 6: Senko Aki, Seiden Hou, Katsu Warame

Team 7: Ai Kagi, Tenko Shimura

Tenko sighed at being placed on the odd team out, but Aizawa leveled a glare at him and said, "Like I said yesterday, heroics is unfair. This is especially true given your Quirk, which is not well-adapted for a hostage scenario. Deal with it."

With that, the exercise began in earnest, and the first team proved more than capable; with Hyou's hail damaging the 2-pointer's internals, Ugoki was free to move the hostages to a safe location while Kyofu toppled the disabled bot, removing the threat, all with 3 minutes to go. A quick discussion afterward labelled Ugoki MVP for going the extra mile in ensuring the safety of the hostages and using the opening his teammates provided excellently.

The second team found itself struggling more, however; the tight space provided by Ground Sigma's bunker made Neppa's flames more of a liability, and Chikara's shockwaves, too, ran the risk of bringing the ceiling down on their heads. Still, lower power waves were enough to crack the walls and provide Namiutsu something to work with, letting him break through some key walls and reaching the hostages. After Neppa welded several doors shut to prevent the bot from following, they made it out with about 30 seconds to spare.

The discussion this time was a bit more heated, though eventually it was decided that Chikara had taken MVP thanks to her ingenuity allowing Namiutsu to use his Quirk (his boots, while in other scenarios may have helped, had done minimal damage to the reinforced walls) and make up for Neppa's inability.

Team 3, meanwhile, found a very interesting way of doing it: by combining very weak tremors from Retsu with Henko's rebounds, Henko built up ludicrous speed and slammed the bot into a wall, crippling it, all the while Kaoruko used her bubbles to form a weak, but serviceable shield. In the end, however, the strategy was docked points for reckless endangerment, with Kaoruko taking MVP for being the only one who hadn't done something that nearly collapsed the bunker.

Team 4 had actually started off reasonably well; an odd discovery led to Jiki combining her Magnetism with Neru's Shackle to create, in essence, a railgun, while Kyo gave it even more power by spinning it rapidly. Unfortunately things went downhill after Kyo sent one metal rod in the completely wrong direction, slamming it through a load-bearing wall and collapsing a section of the bunker. The hostages were just barely OK, but with their main strategy a bust and a key entrance to the hostage room blocked off, the team were stalled by the bot too long to successfully extract the hostages. No MVP award was to be given to the team owing to their failure, and Aizawa gave a very stern lecture to each of them about overly complicated strategies always having higher failure risks.

The fifth team, meanwhile, had a remarkably easy time, as given the previous exercises, Kochi had had enough footage to create a full blueprint of Sigma bunker, allowing the team to completely bypass the bot and, through a combination of makeshift door bars and heavy door stops, got everyone out in only 5 minutes. Kochi was easily handed MVP for the plan.

Team 6 started off a bit poorly after Seiden unintentionally shorted out the lights when trying to stall the 2-pointer, but Senko's natural light proved enough illumination to continue. This shorting out of systems did make getting through all the doors easier, as the locks on nearly all of them were electronic and stopped functioning without power. Katsu took full advantage of this by sending copies of his hands and feet and other parts throughout the bunker to pinpoint the hostages' location, and from there they were extracted without much issue. Katsu was given MVP for quick thinking and solid application of his Quirk in a bad environment.

Finally, it was team 7's turn. And immediately after entering the bunker, Tenko smirked, taking off his gloves. After asking Ai to do a sweep of the walls, she gave him the analysis and told him exactly which walls he could disintegrate for the most efficient (while still safe) path to the hostages. In only 3 minutes they'd torn their entire way through the complex and gotten everyone out through the series of holes Tenko had made. They hadn't even needed to go anywhere near the 2-pointer either.

The discussion about who among Ai and Tenko was MVP managed to grow even more heated than the one for team 2, since in this case it wasn't a matter of if either could've used their Quirk at all in the scenario, as both could, but without each other their plan wouldn't have worked. After about 5 minutes of deadlock, half the class supporting Ai and the other half Tenko, Aizawa weighed in.

"My 1 yen contribution is that Ai could've used her Quirk in conjunction with any of the other teams and she would've likely had similar, if not the same results. Tenko, on the other hand, needed Ai's insight to ensure he didn't collapse the bunker, despite it being his plan."

With this final statement, it was eventually decided that Ai was MVP, since Tenko hadn't really had a plan aside from 'destroy everything and get the hostages out;' it had only been refined thanks to Ai's inspection of the bunker's walls.

After that, class was over, and the students prepared to head home. As Tenko stepped outside campus, he noticed Ai and Kochi talking with each other at the entrance and grinned. Guess they're finally gonna talk about that, he thought. Wonder what they'll do about it…

He eventually made his way back home, where he got on his phone and checked the group chat.

Tenko put down his phone then and noticed Ochaco standing over him, gently but incessantly poking him in the butt. "Hey, Occhan!"

"Hi Tenko-nii!" she smiled. "Whatcha doin'?"

"Eh, not much," replied Tenko. "How was your day?"

"I met a green boy!" said Ochaco.

"Green? Like all of him was green?" asked Tenko.

"No, he just had big curly green hair," she corrected. "He kept on mutterin' and mutterin' though…"

"Anything else?" Tenko said.

"He said he'd moved earlier…" Ochaco added. "Didn't have many friends at his old school."

"Lemme guess, Quirkless?" Tenko ventured.

"Didn't say, but Auntie Nao told me that she knew his mom through Kotaro," Ochaco said.

"That why he moved here?" Tenko asked.

"I guess; he didn't say anything about his dad either…" Ochaco added.

"Oof." Tenko groaned. "Well, at least he sounds nice enough. Try to be friends with him, OK, Occhan?"

"Got it, Tenko-nii!" Ochaco did a thumbs-up. "Operation: Tomodachi is go!"

"Look at me, regular matchmaker at work," Tenko smirked.

Ochaco tilted her head, confused. "Matchmaker? What did you do today?"

"Oh, uh, two people in my class, names are Kagi-san and Sekkei-kun, knew each other from middle school and they had coordinated hero costumes," Tenko said. "One of my other classmates, Aki-kun, noticed and Kagi-san said they were friends, but…"

"What'd Sekkei-kun act like when she said that?" Ochaco asked.

"He looked down. Real down," Tenko recalled. "So I said, 'Hey, just go for it! If it works, it works!' And after school he did just that!"

"What'd Kagi-san say?" Ochaco said, now invested.

"Totally went for it, they said something like 75% chance of PDA," Tenko laughed. "And then when Aki-kun mentioned something our teacher said had been a lie, well 'logical ruse,' whatever that means, Kagi-san got really sad because she thought she hadn't helped anything…"

"Oh no!" Ochaco's mouth went agape.

"But then Sekkei-kun swooped in, called her by her first name, and told her not to worry about it," Tenko chuckled. "It was great! Kagi-san even dropped everything and went over to Sekkei-kun's house right then and there!"

Ochaco laughed. "Wow, you really are a matchmaker! Good for you, Tenko-nii! Maybe if hero stuff doesn't work out you can get people hitched!"

"Guess I can, Occhan," Tenko grinned. "Now do you have homework to do?"

"It's the first day! Of course I don't!" Ochaco denied firmly.

"You sure?" asked Tenko. "I don't wanna have to tell your mom and dad you didn't do something!"

"OK, fine, I've got some reading homework…" said Ochaco. "But that's it!"

"Got it, Occhan." Tenko said. "Better do it!"

"I will!" Ochaco called back as she ran to her room.

"Oh and by the way if you don't, no mochi for dessert!" Tenko shouted back as he too got out his new, heavy, math textbook. He had his own work to do. And it's trig, because I didn't have enough on my plate, he groaned to himself as he stared at the definitions of various functions, attempting to make some sense of them.

A/N: As a recently graduated high school student who was… decent at math, I relate to Tenko's struggle. Admittedly my issue was more calculus than anything but trig was also weird. So yeah, for anyone who hasn't taken high school math yet or took it long enough ago to not really remember, just know it can be really counterintuitive at times.

Also, Quirk Profile Time:

Ai Kagi, Quirk: Inspect!

Ai is able to visualize the inner workings or structure of a given device or piece of infrastructure. Larger objects take more effort to do so, and this effect cannot be used on organic life. As well, the amount of information she retains is directly tied to her own memory, so there is very real potential for information loss.
