Chapter Eight

The school day, for the most part, was mundane and painfully normal with ordinary classes that were mandatory for even them to take. That was, until later in the day when the hero training classes came around.

She'd heard the rumors of the famed All Might being hired on as a teacher, but seeing him come in through the door still surprised her. Excited voices shadowed his appearance as he easily commanded all attention with his presence.

She sat at her desk, having turned to face forward as she halted talking to Shoto, to glance at the giant man standing in front of the class and smiling so brilliantly. As she sat there, she could feel something… off with him. She couldn't put her finger on it, but she could sense it all the same.

She thought back to that time all those months ago when she encountered him on the street. She couldn't remember if it was the same then, too. She'd been more excited about seeing Inuyasha again, and she hadn't paid all that much attention to everything around her- despite how she'd gotten the autograph for Souta from the symbol of peace.

It wasn't long before they were led to what they'd be doing for their training today. With it, came the introduction of their costumes.

Like the rest of the locker room, she changed into her hero costume. She'd taken consideration from Sesshoumaru in the final product. The bodysuit was skintight, with its primary color being a snowy shade of silver. The collar of it wrapped around her neck, leaving the majority of her back, along with her sides, exposed. Along with it was a maroon haori. She put it on over the bodysuit and tied it closed before moving on to putting on her armor.

It, too, was silver. It wasn't bulky, being more fit for her petite build. Touching it, it didn't feel as if it conducted the temperatures it was exposed to, preventing it from getting too hot or cold while it was attached to her. Her boots, reaching her knees, was lined with temperature-regulating fur. The fur and boots themselves were a stark silver, as well.

She fastened her mask around her neck, letting the silver item rest against her collar. It seemed to be made of the same material as the armor she had equipped. She grabbed the hair tie and fixed her hair up into a high ponytail. Once it was fixed, she wrapped the maroon ribbon around it, the ends of the ribbon reaching the small of her back.

Once she'd finished putting on her costume, she spared a quick glance at herself in the mirror, making sure everything was done up right. She nodded, happy with the way it looked, and turned to leave amongst the rest of the girls that were done putting on their costumes, as well.

Once she made it out into the hall, Shippo made his way over to her. He'd been waiting for her to come out. Tagging along with him was Eira and Enya, who'd been waiting in the hallway as she changed.

"What do you think?" she asked when she spotted him. He beamed at her.

"It really suits you!" he exclaimed. "I'm reminded a little of Sango's uniform, but, at the same time, it looks so different from what hers looked like."

Kagome nodded. "Her uniform was my primary inspiration," she admitted. "Sesshoumaru made a few suggestions to it all, as well, actually." She'd been hesitant at first, but, seeing the final product, she wasn't disappointed. He knew what would suit her, it seemed. He knew what she found to be comfortable due to the training he gave her, and he knew what to avoid that would only serve to hinder her movements. She tucked her hair over her shoulder and nodded for him to come along with her. "Let's go catch up with the rest, huh?"

"Okay," Shippo said as he nodded, taking the leading step. Before they could get too far ahead, a familiar voice called out to them and they came to a halt.

"Oh, young Higurashi!" All Might called out to her, coming down the hall from where he seemed to have been waiting for her. "Just one moment!"

Kagome turned to face him as he closed the gap with quick, long strides. Shippo stayed put as well. As he came to a halt in front of them, he looked between them, his large, gleaming smile never once fading. "Yes?" she asked, tilting her head to the side.

"Sesshoumaru requested that you go visit him for a few moments once you are all dressed and set," All Might said, much to her confusion. It must've shown clearly on her face, because he continued the next second, "rest assured, it won't take long! When you're done, he'll guide you right over so you may join the rest of us!"

Kagome was silent for a moment, merely nodding and thinking about what he might've wanted to see her about. After a few seconds, she shrugged and looked at Shippo. "Guess I'll just meet you over there…- be nice," she commented flatly.

Shippo smiled at her tone and nodded in an attempt to reassure her. "Don't worry~ I'll be nice."

Kagome arched a brow, not quite believing him, but then again… She sighed a few seconds later before turning and preparing to leave.

"Of course, you'll be nice…" she muttered. "You don't have to worry about keeping guys away from me if I'm not there." She whistled, catching the attention of the two cats at her feet. "Go with him," she said. They didn't hesitate before jumping onto his shoulders with twin meows.

He didn't try to deny the claim, and she could feel the vague confusion that came from All Might as he looked between the two. When she looked at him, waving Shippo off with an exasperated smile in place, he jumped a bit.

"R-Right," All Might said, nodding. Kagome returned her focus to him. "You have yet to take his class, correct?" he asked, and Kagome nodded. "I can show you the way if you need guidance!"

Kagome shook her head and dove past him. "Thanks, but I'll be fine!" Her voice was bright as she went on her way. She only briefly waited for his confirmation before she continued on her way.

Following the faint thrum of Sesshoumaru's aura eventually led her to where he was. She poked her head inside the room, spotting him standing with his back facing the door. Still, he was able to tell she was there.

"I was starting to wonder if I needed to come collect you myself," he commented as she stepped fully into the room to join him. He turned to face her, and he was silent as he looked her over, taking in the sight of the way she was dressed. "Hn… It suits you better than I initially envisioned," he stated. She smiled in response, eyes lighting up.

"Thank you," she said. Her smile faded a bit after a few seconds, and she craned her head to the side in confusion. "So what did you need me for?" she asked, suddenly recalling that she had other places to be.

He arched a brow in response before beckoning her forwards. She followed wordlessly, watching as he pulled something from a black bag. He offered it to her, and she eyed it in silence.

"I requested this be made for you, but I was only able to receive it this morning," he stated, and Kagome slowly reached out to take it. The red fabric felt so familiar, and a bunch of memories flooded her mind in bright colors. She marveled at it, a smile ghosting her face as she traced her fingers over the familiar material.

"A robe of the Fire Rat," she said, and he nodded in confirmation.

Kagome slipped it on over her shoulders. Unlike Inuyasha's own robe, this one was designed to be a cloak- complete with a hood. It had silver strings that tied in the front to keep it in place on her shoulders. It went to knees in length. She kept the hood down as she fixed it properly. She felt Sesshoumaru watching her as she donned it with the rest of her costume.

"I felt that it would complete the look, anyway," he stated. Kagome looked up at him with a grin on her face.

"It's perfect," she responded. "Thank you…"

"You have no reason to thank me," he said as he turned away from her. "I'm merely pleased to see that I was right in my assumptions."

"Right…" she trailed off, a wry smile replacing her grin. How haughty… "Well, if that's all you needed me for, I should be on my way now," she commented. He nodded and turned to follow her as she made her way to depart from the room.

"I'll walk you there," he stated. Even if she planned to deny his offer, she could hear in his voice that he wouldn't budge to her whims.

She sighed and shrugged. "If you want," she said, leading the way out for him to trail after her.

Silence built up between them, but there was something more to it than normal. Sesshoumaru was keen to pick up on it, and he glanced down at the small girl absorbed in her own thoughts. He glared at her as she walked, seemingly oblivious to his attention- something so uncharacteristic of her. After a few seconds, he grew fed up with this type of silence.

"What bothers you, Kagome?"

She jumped at his question, blinking owlishly as she turned her head up to meet his stare. It was unexpressive as ever, but she could feel the confusion in his aura as he stared down at her. "What-?"

"Don't play dumb with me," he commented flatly. She promptly sighed in response.

"It's that noticeable, huh?"

"To me it is," he responded. He was training her. He was more in tune with her emotions and wellbeing than others were capable of being. He could tell when she was acting differently. He could see what others might overlook so simply.

She was silent for a few minutes, attention downcast to the floor between them. "I…" She sighed and shook her head. "Sooner or later, I'll have to face running into him." She refrained from giving him a name. She didn't need to. She could tell that Sesshoumaru knew instantly who the him she was referring to was. "I… I almost would rather go back to fighting demons in the daily than have to face it," she admitted a few seconds later, her voice going nearly silent.

It wasn't fear she felt. She didn't exactly have a name for the way she felt. It wasn't positive or negative. It was some weird culmination of the two, somehow.

"Do you really have to?" Sesshoumaru questioned, and she perked up in response.

"What do you mean?" she asked. "It's not possible to avoid him entirely," she stated. Even if she went out of her way, it seemed impossible to keep from coming into his line of sight.

"Sure, that may be true," Sesshoumaru responded, "but you have no need to give him a shred of attention- whether it be negative or positive."

Kagome blinked owlishly as he spoke, absorbing his words.

"Why give him the satisfaction?" he continued. "Spite will do just fine in your case. You're quite the spiteful creature when it's well warranted, after all."

She puffed her cheeks out in a pout. "Rude!" she hissed. "I'm gonna remember that one."

"My point exactly," he smirked. He prodded her cheek, pulling at it as she whined. "He is not worth the effort," he stated. "So don't bother wasting it." At her silence, he lowered his hand and continued forward. Soon enough, she followed him once more. "He's had no part in your growth, and, as such, he shouldn't hold any weight over you. He couldn't be bothered to regard you as a father should, so why should you be bothered to regard him at all?"

She was silent as she followed behind him, letting his words sink in.

"By all means, feel things for him. Good, or bad, or something in between, it matters not to me," he stated, tone flat. "Just don't let it get to the point where it has negative effects on yourself."

She stumbled in her steps a bit as she processed his words. After a few seconds, she nodded slowly.

He was right, she knew that much. A smile replaced her frown as she caught up to him once again. While it hadn't completely erased her worries, his words had helped clear her complicated mind some. Enough so that she felt a bit lighter.

"Right!"

Auroua-chan: Sesshoumaru offering Kagome advice? It's really sweet. I'm really excited to the point where he'll run into Endeavor. I already know when I plan to do it, and it's gonna be fun to write.

This chapter was a bit shorter than the last ones, but I wanted to cut it off before it got too long. I also wanted this chapter to focus a bit on Kagome and Sesshoumaru. The next chapter will have their first official training. Any guesses as to who Kagome's teammate will be?

Anyway, that's it for now! Thank you all for reading, and I hope you all enjoyed! Hopefully I caught all the errors before posting, but if not, sorry!

Please remember to Review&Favorite&Follow, thank you!

Bye for now~
