Five years have passed since Laxus and Jack became brothers. The scars on their hands proof of their bond. Five years since Ivar was expelled. Five years of training all lead up to this day for both young mages.
Their first real job.
Traditionally mages would do their first real job alone to show that they were ready for more serious jobs, however Jack and Laxus made a pretty convincing case to Makarov that they should be allowed to do a B Class Job if they went and did the job together, and the fact that it was in a frozen tundra.
ICE MONKIES
A nesting of Vulcans has made the village worry for its safety, our wives and daughters are afraid to go outside knowing that if they do they will be captured by one of those foul creatures. Destroy the nest and rid the world of these Vulcans.
Location: Rose Mountain
Reward: 100,000 Jewels
Laxus shivered under his thick coat. He had grown considerably in the measly five years since, he stood taller and portrayed an air of confidence and power. His cut on his face had healed but not faded away leaving what Jack called a badass scar. "Looks like the place"
Jack on the other hand was standing there in a loose-fitting black t shirt and baggy blue pants, unbothered by the cold as the winter breeze blew his now longer snowy hair. Compared to Laxus his growth physically was not much, however he did grow even if slightly. "Yeah… I mean we did pass the sign saying Rose Mountain… Idiot"
Laxus grew a tick mark on his head. "Ok Snow cone… I meant the nest"
Jack scoffed as he took a knee and placed his hand onto the fresh snow. "Sure you did… dolt"
"Popsicle"
"Battery head"
"…Loser"
"Circuit brains… wait did you just call me a loser?"
"Nope, you must have snow in your ears… slurpie brains"
"You literally just copied my insult"
"YoU lItErAlLy JuSt CoPiEd My InSuLt"
"You're such a pissy pants"
"Breaking out the big guns are we? Poop-face"
"Ok Idiot-head"
"Wow! Too far"
"Yeah too far… sorry?"
"Apology accepted… loser"
"Urgh! I hate you! Hush for a second while I try to find the Vulcans"
Jack used his fine manipulation of all frost like substances, which included snow, to extend his magical sensing in order to find the Vulcans. It took him a cold minute, but he found where they were nesting.
"Yeah there's about 21 of them in that cave… easy money" Jack stated as he stood up ready to do his first real job.
"First one to 11 gets all the reward!" Laxus shouted before zapping away in his Lightning Body form, which was a result of a failed attempt to emulate Jack's elemental body.
Jack sighed as he started to run after Laxus, he accepted the fact long ago that he would never be as fast as Laxus... not that he needed to be either.
He entered the cave and saw two fallen Vulcans, sparking with fresh electricity. The cracks from Laxus' lighting attacks could be heard as Jack sensed three Vulcans try to sneak up on him from behind.
"Not going to work monke" Jack stated as he twisted his right foot, freezing the three Vulcans in an instant. Jack continued to walk at his own pace, noticing that the Vulcans Laxus had attacked where half defeated, the shock of coming into contact with a high concentration of electricity KO'd them yes, but it did not kill them, which was the point of the quest. A quick click from Jack fixed that problem, freezing them in a coffin of ice.
He then clenched his right hand into a fist, causing the ice to shatter into a million pieces, the Vulcans along with it.
"Laxus! You need to kill the Vulcans not KO them!" Jack shouted into the depths of the cave, loud enough for it to echo a tiny bit.
The sound of lighting stopped for a second. "OKAY!"
Jack nodded, he didn't want to win on a technicality.

Unscathed and unaffected, Jack walked up to a panting Laxus who had some bruises littered across his arm.
"Looks like you win" Jack said with a sigh as he looked at all the damage that the Dreyar had caused.
Laxus grinned as Jack continued to survey the area. "Heh! I knew I would beat you!"
Jack walked past a statue made of ice. Which caused him to do a double take. Upon closer examination he could tell it wasn't normal. It was of a woman, nude save a cloth that wrapped around her private parts, holding something, which was supposed to in her hands.
"There is no frost forming around it, nor is it deteriorating. And the statue is missing something… maybe this is the cause of the Vulcan nesting." Jack hypothesised as Laxus got up and examined the statue.
"Yeah, maybe try and put…" Laxus started before he was joined by Jack in his aloud theory.
""A Rose"" they boy said at the same time. Jack waisted no time and used his ice to make a winter rose. He walked over to the statue and placed the rose in the hands of the woman.
The statue smiled, which freaked out Laxus and Jack, before shattering into a million pieces, revealing a passageway that went underneath the cave.
Jumping in first, Jack proceeded with caution using his senses to get a general ideal as to what waited ahead.
A hiss came from Jack's feet as magical lights suddenly flooded the area with light. Causing Jack and Laxus to close their eyes, and slowly open them to adjust to the influx of light.
What they saw surprised them, two boxes.
"I dibs the one of the left!" Laxus shouted, zooming past Jack to open the box. He didn't mind, the right one was cold, that much he knew. Walking over to the box, Jack opened it without hesitation nor resistance.
He found a note and a small, thumb sized capsule.
To whomever it may concern,
Inside this capsule is what I like to call Absolute Zero. It will freeze anything upon impact and will never waver in coldness… even the fires of hell could not melt this.
Use this however you please, you have followed all the clues to my laboratory in Rose Mountain.
Sincerely,
Prof. D. A. Monis
Jack tossed aside the letter and grabbed the capsule, having half the mind to absorb Absolute Zero. But decided against it.
"Aww man! This sucks!" Laxus groaned as he waved what seemed to be a blueprint in the air.
Jack chuckled. "Hey, you chose the left one"
"Useless Thunder Palace blueprint… what did you get Jack?" he asked as Jack stored the capsule in his pocket.
"A capsule of cold" Jack explained with a sigh, looking around the room for any more goodies. Looting was key in these magical areas, you could get cool gear you could wear or sell and add to your mission total.
"Noting here worth taking" Laxus muttered as he headed for the exit. They had a reward to cash in after all.

Arriving back at Magnolia, the pair were greeted by the sight of a Guildarts shift. "Say Laxus, do you think we'll get out own shift once we become S Class?"
Laxus clicked his tongue. "Maybe you because of the cold aura you let off… but not me"
Jack picked up on the small hint of jealousy in Laxus' tone. Truth be told Laxus hadn't really repaired his relationship with Makarov, rather he saw him as a measuring stick and not as anything else.
"Boys! Its been a while!" The booming voice of Guildarts greeted from behind them, scaring them both.
Laughing at the slight scare that he gave them, Gildarts placed his hands on each of their shoulders. He looked at his left hand that was on Jack's shoulder and watched as it started to frost. "Oh boy you're colder than ever Jack!"
Jack grinned, not looking back, he didn't want Guildarts to see the massive grin on his face. "Cool huh?"
"Shit pun" Laxus grumbled. Guildarts smacked him in the back of the head as a punishment for swearing.
"Kids your age shouldn't swear!" he scolded, placing his hands back in his pockets.
Jack exhaled a cold breath, steam exiting his mouth. "You know that there are people in the guild waiting for you to acknowledge them"
Guildarts was intrigued, did Jack Frost want to be acknowledged by him? "Is your boyfriend not giving you enough attention?"
Jack turned around and sent Guildarts a glare. "This is serious Guildarts… you are very important to-"
Jack stopped himself from talking, he needed Guildarts to realise on his own that Cana was his own daughter. "To whom?"
"You're a great mage… figure it out" Jack said as he stopped glaring at the man. "And as much as I wish it was me or Laxus, it isn't"
Guildarts nodded, storing that information for later. "You never denied Laxus being your boyfriend though!"
Both boys shot him a look of disgust. "Laxus is my brother… and besides I don't even like men!"
Laxus tried to punch Guildarts. "You pervert! I don't like him like that! I don't think I'll ever see him as anything else but a brother!"
"Oh yeah before I forget… I got you two birthday presents, considering that I don't know when Jack's is and if I'll be around for Laxus'" Guildarts explained as he reached into his bag and pulled out two bags, handing one to Laxus and one to Jack.
They both ripped open the bags and shove their hands in to bring out their presents. Laxus puuled out what seemed to be headphones and a music player, while Jack pulled out what seemed to be a royal blue katana hilt, which meant it was missing a wrist guard and blade.
"Thanks Guildarts! I've been wanting one of these for so long now!" Laxus shouted with a smile, earning him a pat on the head from Guildarts.
"This is awesome too… I'm going to make my own Katana!" Jack said with determination and awe glinting in his eyes. He could feel a small magical presence within the hilt and assumed that Guildarts wanted him to figure out what that was. "Thanks old man!"
"Okay boys… lets not keep the master waiting!" Guildarts shouted before stepping forward towards the Guild.
The boys followed suit, trying their best to look cool.
They reached the guild and where greeted with a massive. "WELCOME BACK!"

Cana had joined the guild as some time before Laxus and Jack left for their first job. Jack would have liked to interact with her more, but Laxus was dragging him out more and more for training. His character was becoming obsessed with gaining more and more power, yet their bond remained strong as ever.
Naturally Jack observed how Cana acted around Guildarts for the next couple of months when Laxus had given him a reprieve from training. But today he had dragged him out for a battle to see how far the two of them had progressed since their first mission.
Jack easily dodged another lighting infused punch from Laxus, the more they trained the better Jack's senses got, at the beginning when Laxus tapped into his Dragon Lacrima he wasn't able to hold up at close range, now he was able to duck, dive and doge when needed without much effort.
"You're getting slower Laxus" Jack said as he expelled a massive amount of ice at the electric blonde, trapping him in what seemed to be a glacier of ice.
"S-s-so c-c-cold!" Laxus shouted as he attempted to get out of the ice.
"I'm tired… I'm going into the guild" Jack said lazily with a yawn. "You can get out of there yourself… think of it as training"
"Asshole!" Laxus shouted as Jack turned around and walked away. The perks of Jack being whatever he was allowed him to intrinsically understand any ice related spell to the molecular and spiritual level, hence being seen as a prodigy by Ur when he trained under her.
This included sensing when other ice-based mages where around.
Entering the guild hall Jack smiled when he saw a small Gray Fullbuster talking to Makarov. He decided to introduce himself.
"Can you undo the effects of Ice Shell?" Gray asked Makarov, getting the interest of Jack.
Deciding to but in, Jack took up a seat next to Makarov "No… doing so would only kill the original caster and release what ever they sealed"
Gray looked up at Jack, a soup of emotions stirring up in his eyes. "Snow white hair… blue eyes… you're Jack Frost"
"Ahhh, you must be a pupil of Ur… what's your name?" Jack asked with a smile as tears started to well up in Gray's eyes. He wiped them away and soldiered up.
"She's gone" he explained, Jack put a hand on Gray's shoulder. He noticed that Gray didn't flinch when the coldness of Jack's hand met him, not that he expected any less from one of Ur's students.
"Well if you're ready… you can join Fairy Tail" Jack suggested before taking his hand away from Gray. He turned to Makarov and gave a curt nod before walking away… he had to check if Laxus was still frozen.
