So funny story, this is the chapter that created the idea for this story. Like I was sitting in student aide class bored out of my mind, and an idea came to me.

"What if Ash's journeys team battled Sawyer."

So I started brainstorming

And boom. Here we are

JN Ash in XYZ POV:

The elevator rose slowly; it was time.

The semi-finals of the Kalos League! Ash against Sawyer, student against the teacher. And a battle for a spot in the finals.

It was time

Sawyer looked at Ash, "It's been a while coming," the younger trainer said, eager for this match.

"Yeah, let's give it our best today," Ash said

Sawyer grinned at Ash, "For sure"

The referee stood up, "This will be a six-on-six battle! Substitutions will not be allowed! Trainers, are you ready?"

Sawyer nodded along with Ash

"Well, in that case, may the best win! Good luck gentlemen"

"Alright, let's get this started! Slaking, standby!"

Ash smiled and reached for his belt, alright, let's start this off right, Sirfetch'd I choose you!"

Ash's knight-duck emerged and drew his leek menacingly, Slaking just laid there

"Battle begin" the referee's voice boomed over the speaker

Ash gave his first order, "Alright, Sirfetch'd use swords dance!"

Sirfetch'd started glowing and aura swords flashed above him, boosting his attack

"Slaking, don't be intimidated!" Sawyer ordered

"Sirfetch'd, use swords dance again!" Ash commanded

Sirfetch'd had aura swords flash over his head yet again, and a blue aura surrounded him now. It was clear he was much stronger

"Hmmm, I can't let his attack get any higher, Slaking, hammer arm!"

Slaking stood up and trudged towards Sirfetch'd

Ash smiled, "Sirfetch'd get away! Then one more swords dance!"

Sirfetch'd repeated the process again and stared down Slaking

Slaking pounded his chest and laid down again in a defensive position.

"Sirfetch'd, use Meteor Assault!" Ash yelled out

"Counter, now!" Sawyer cried out desperately

But Slaking was too slow, Sirfetch'd rushed towards Slaking, and struck him so hard the force of the blow created a hole around him. Slaking rolled over, defeated.

Ash smiled, he was up 1 already, and he had a good idea on Sawyer's next pokemon.

"Alright then, no worries! Clawitzer, let's do this!"

Sawyer released a water type who wasted no time.

"Aqua jet!"

Clawitzer coated itself in water and flew up in the air

Sawyer gave his next order, "Now, ice beam!"

Ash gave a command, "Block it with your shield!"

Sirfetch'd blocked Clawitzer's attack with his shield, but it froze over on part of him.

"Now Clawitzer, use dragon pulse!" Sawyer commanded

Clawitzer fired off a powerful dragon pulse which Sirfetch'd blocked with some considerable effort.

"Stay on the offensive and use a water pulse!" Sawyer yelled at Clawitzer

Clawitzer fired off a powerful water pulse which Sirfetch'd was struck with, sending Ash's loyal fighting type back.

"Clawitzer, we need to end this now! Use a hyper beam, all out!"

Ash yelled out, "Sirfetch'd Meteor Assault, close that distance!"

Sirfetch'd coated himself in an orange aura and rushed towards Clawitzer who was firing off his hyper beam. Sirfetch'd disappeared into the attack, and when the dust cleared Clawitzer was left standing, Sirfetch'd less than an arm's length from striking him.

"Great job Clawitzer!"

"Looks like the battle is even now, Ash may have his work cut out for him," Clemont said, adjusting his glasses

"Oh, you haven't seen anything yet," Serena said, implying Ash had a few tricks up his sleeve

Bonnie giggled, "I wonder why Ash is wearing all of those funny bracelets?"

"Alright then, let's go Gengar!"

Ash sent out his Gengar who disappeared right away, and reappeared all over the arena.

"Stay on alert Clawitzer!"

"Alright, Gengar, use psychic!"

Gengar levitated Clawitzer off the ground and slammed the water type into the ground

"Clawitzer, ice beam now!" Sawyer yelled out, worried

Ash didn't seem worried, "Gengar, do what you must,"

Gengar vanished before the attack could strike him, and reappeared right behind Clawitzer and slammed its fist into the water type with an ice punch.

Clawitzer spun out of control and landed on the ground, and Gengar fired off a shadow ball which struck Clawitzer on his way down.

Ash and Sawyer didn't need to see the result of the attack to know that Clawitzer was down.

"Well played Ash, but my next one is the superior ghost type! Let's go Aegislash!"

The sword pokemon emerged and stared down at Gengar

"Big brother? When Ghost types vanish, where do they go?"

"For some ghost type's they're invisible… and for others, well let's just say there are some questions that we don't want the answer to"

Serena shivered even thinking of where exactly they went. Ghosts scared her a lot.

Back on the field,

Gengar and Aegislash were vanishing back and forth, striking each other over and over. It was clear that Aegislash was hitting harder blows, but Gengar seemed to have the upper hand.

"Alright then, Gengar, make a huge shadow ball!"

"Night slash Aegislash, cut it up! Make sure Gengar can't land its attack!"

Aegislash sped towards Gengar and sliced its attack up. But some remnants of the energy struck Aegislash, sending the sword and shield pokemon back.

Ash sighed, "Well, that didn't work. Gengar, try a point-blank shadow ball! Crack its defense!"

"Aegislash, don't let him! King's shield!"

Aegislash formed a shield, but at the last minute, Gengar canceled his attack and vanished.

Gengar rushed Aegislash, landing a vicious night shade and sending the sword back. Gengar attacked with psychic powers, but Aegislash blocked the wave of energy with a king's shield.

Ash yelled "Gengar, use nightshade again!"

Sawyer cried out, "Defend with iron defense!"

Aegislash wasn't fast enough and was thrown around by the blow.

Aegislash regained its composure and looked around in confusion until its trainer gave it an order.

"Aegislash, below you!"

Aegislash looked down and sliced Gengar and struck Ash's ghost, sending Gengar down to the ground.

"Gengar, hang in there! Fire off another shadow ball!"

As Gengar flew to the ground, he fired off one last shadow ball, which flew quickly towards Aegislash, landing a direct hit.

Gengar hit the ground first, and then Aegislash on top of him. Both ghosts were down.

Ash sighed and recalled Gengar, and Sawyer did the same for his.

"Hey, great job out there. We've got this from here." Ash spoke to Gengar's ball

Pikachu yelled at Ash, "Pika Pika Pika Pika Pi Pi Chu Pika!"

"You want in?" Ash looked at his oldest partner

"Pika Pika Pi!" Pikachu pounded his chest

"Well let's do this! Pikachu, I choose you!"

Pikachu flashed his tail, indicating he was ready to go.

"Hey Pikachu, remember what we practiced?"

Pikachu nodded and Ash smiled and pulled out Pikachu's poke ball.

"Alright buddy, it won't be for long,"

"Pikachu has a poke ball?" Bonnie said in shock

"I mean yeah, why wouldn't he?" Clemont said

"Guys just watch…" Serena said frustrated

Ash recalled Pikachu

"Contestant Ash, substitutions aren't allowed, please release your Pikachu again," the referee said

"One second,"

The band on Ash's wrist started to glow and he tapped Pikachu's ball to the band.

The poke ball grew and Ash threw it out again, expanding a giant Pikachu out of it.

"Piiiikaaaaaachuuuuuu" Gigantamax Pikachu said in a deep voice.

Sawyer's eyes widened. "That's….that's the dynamax phenomenon! It should be impossible in Kalos!"

The stadium went wild, in awe of Pikachu's Gigantamax. This was unheard of in Kalos!

"Big Pikachu! Wow! That's so cool!" Bonnie said in awe

Serena stared "Wow, Ash wasn't kidding about the size…"

Clemont's cheeks flushed red, thinking Serena was talking about something else not related to battles.

Sawyer reached for a poke ball, "Alright Slurpuff! Let's do this!"

Sawyer sent out a pink pokemon who jumped up excitedly before seeing a kaiju-sized Pikachu.

Slurpuff was no longer happy

"Alright Pikachu, let's do this! G Max Volt Crash!"

Pikachu jumped up and fired off a wave of thunder towards the sky.

"Slurpuff, try and dodge!" Sawyer yelled out

Slurpuff in fact, could not dodge. Slurpuff was struck with an immensely powerful crash of thunder, which created a huge hole in the center of the arena.

Ash smiled, "Great job Pikachu! Guess going in the ball for a few seconds was worth it!"

Pikachu just jumped up in agreement, sending tremors throughout the arena

"Slurpuff, can you still battle?"

Slurpuff slowly picked itself up and stared down Pikachu who looked as menacing as ever.

Ash wanted to end this and ordered, "Alright Pikachu, use max steelspike!"

Sawyer gave an order, "Slurpuff, use flamethrower!"

Gigantamax Pikachu picked up his tail and slammed it into the ground, creating a wave of steel spikes that slammed straight into Slurpuff's measly flamethrower.

The super-effective attack slammed into Slurpuff and caused the fairy-type to cry out in pain. It was clear that no pokemon would survive an attack like that.

Sawyer sighed and reached for his next to the last pokemon, "Well, I didn't see this happening. I have no data on dynamax pokemon,"

He reached for his next poke ball, "Alright, let's take this fight to the sky, Salamence, let's do this!"

Sawyer's Salamence roared and flew in circles around giant Pikachu who looked bored.

Ash smiled, "Alright Pikachu, let's clip his wings! Use G-Max volt crash!"

Pikachu fired off a powerful bolt in the sky, and the whole stadium was covered in clouds. Salamence flew around, trying to identify where the bolt would be located.

The bolt was in fact, right above Salamence. Salamence was struck with a full force thunder crash and crashed to the ground. Pikachu started shrinking and was reduced to his smaller size.

After a moment, Salamence stood up quite bruised from being struck with a giant bolt of thunder from a Kaiju-sized Pikachu.

Ash looked at Pikachu, "Are you ok buddy?"

"Pika!" Pikachu stood up and stared down Salamence, but Ash couldn't help but notice how tired his partner looked. "Alright Pikachu, use electrowe-"

Sawyer cut him off, "Dragon Rush now!"

Salamence rushed towards Pikachu who tried to dodge, but it was already too late. Salamence gave a loud roar and slammed into him, knocking Ash's oldest partner out of the battle.

Ash sighed and walked out into the arena, picking up Pikachu and setting him down.

"Well, Sawyer, ready to see my next partner? He's colorful!"

Ash reached for his poke ball and gave it a lecture, "Hey, I need you to behave, this is important. After this battle, you can eat me all you want,"

"Eat you?" Sawyer said confused

"Alright, Dracovish, I choose you!"

Ash sent out his Dracovsish who looked at Ash and sighed, behaving himself.

Sawyer looked at Ash and then Dracovish, unable to identify this mysterious pokemon.

Ash realized that technically at this period in time, Dracovish wasn't even discovered yet!

Ash had also used Serena to make Dracovish even more powerful. Apparently, a certain silk scarf made from Persian hairs could make pokemon faster, as a consequence of only being able to use one move. So, using Serena's skills, Dracovish looked quite dapper in his choice scarf.

Sawyer pointed at Dracovish, "Alright Salamence, let's do this! Dragon claw!"

Dracovish smiled and sprinted at a blistering pace towards Salamence who was rushing towards Dracovish.

"Alright Dracovish, use fishious rend!"

Dracovish opened his jaw and sprinted straight into Salamence. Salamence tried clawing Dracovish but the fossil didn't budge. No pain, no movement. Just bite down hard.

Salamence roared and blasted Dracovish with an incinerate that caught his scarf on fire. Dracovish cried out in sadness for the loss of his scarf, he was MAD now.

"I spent all day yesterday knitting that!" Serena said miserably, just as mad as Dracovish was from the scarf fire.

Dracovish let go of Salamence and put out the fire with a water gun. Salamence swung at Dracovish and he lost his balance and fell on his side.

"Salamence, now use dragon rush!"

Dracovish turned his jaw towards a rushing Salamence and timed a perfect bite on the dragon. Dracovish chomped down with an ice fang, and froze Salamence slowly, freezing the dragon in a 4x strong attack.

Salamence collapsed and Dracovish jumped up on its tail and bit down with another ice fang, finishing what it started.

The ice broke and Salamence's knocked-out form laid beneath Dracovish.

Sawyer sighed and recalled his last poke ball.

"Well Ash, you're about to see what true strength looks like! This battle is far from over, Sceptile, let's go!"

Sceptile was released and stared down Dracovish who flapped his flippers happily without a care in the world.

Sawyer's ace stared down Dracovish and decided that he wanted to wipe that stupid smile off its ugly face.

"Alright Sceptile, let's do this! Leaf-blade!"

Sceptile sped towards Dracovish who waited for Ash

Ash gave his order, "Dracovish, dodge and use ice fang!"

Dracovish dodged the blow, and chomped down on Sceptile's arm, freezing it before the grass starter jumped away.

Ash gave his next order, "Alright Dracovish, try and freeze him again!"

Sawyer yelled out, "Sceptile, stop him! Leaf storm!"

Sceptile sent out a barrage of sharp leaves which Dracovish sprinted through, clearly feeling the damage.

Ash pointed his fist at Sceptile, "Now, Ice Fang!"

Dracovish jumped up and landed an Ice Fang on a shocked Sceptile.

Sceptile was frozen whole and Dracovish released it and walked away.

Ash was impressed, and Sawyer watched the scene in horror.

Sceptile in his ice block fell to the ground.

And the referee was about to raise his flag. Until Sawyer tapped his mega stone, and Sceptile began to glow, and glow some more.

Sceptile's ice cube was surrounded by the well-known purple orb, and a mega-Sceptile walked out of the cube.

Ash stared down Sceptile's Mega form and smiled. "Now this is where the fun begins,"

Sawyer rolled his eyes at Ash's reference. "Alright Sceptile, use a Frenzy Plant!"

Sceptile sent giant vines out of the ground which struck Dracovish, and thrashed the fossil around.

Ash gave his order, "Freeze it with ice fang!"

"Leaf blade now!" Sawyer commanded

Sceptile sped towards Dracovish and struck him in the neck with a leaf blade.

Dracovish collapsed, defeated from the strength of the blow.

Ash sighed and recalled Dracovish.

"Well, great work. Hey Sawyer, let's make this match fair, shall we?"

"Finally, it's Greninja time!" Sawyer said excitedly

"Who said I was using Greninja? Let's go Lucario!"

"Oh… well what do you mean fair- oh…." Sawyer saw Ash reach for his glove which had a keystone in it.

Ash looked at Lucario who saw a Mega-Sceptile and turned back to Ash and nodded.

"Ready?" Ash said and Lucario nodded

"Let's go even further beyond! Mega evolve!"

Lucario was enveloped by the purple glow, and emerged in its mega form.

Sceptile and Sawyer looked like they were in sync, ready to battle, as did Ash and Lucario.

This was it.

"Lucario, let's do this! Aura Sphere!"

Lucario launched an aura sphere which flew towards Sceptile who was hit in the head.

"Alright Sceptile, leaf storm!", "Another aura sphere!" both trainers yelled at the same time

The two attacks sped towards each other, each making contact and doing some damage. But from the looks of it, Ash was on top.

"Alright, Lucario got in close and used a power-up punch!"

"Sceptile, stop him and use a leaf blade!"

Both pokemon sped towards each other, making contact with their arms, Lucario pushing Sceptile back an inch.

Ash smiled at Lucario gaining an edge, "Power up again!"

Sawyer noticed this and gave a command, "Sceptile, get back!"

Sceptile did a backflip to the other edge of the arena.

"Quick! Use frenzy plant! Make it as fast as you can, this is it, now or never" Sawyer yelled

Sawyer's ace launched a massive vine out of the ground, and smaller tendrils sprouted out and flew towards Lucario.

"Lucario, let's do this! Close combat!"

Lucario jumped up on the vine and ducked, dodging the tendrils. This was a surprisingly quick and agile pokemon despite its normal size.

Sceptile looked like he was strained, forcing his hands in the ground and looking tired.

Lucario was slapped in the face with a tendril and had his legs tied by another. Vines quickly enveloped him and things looked bleak.

Ash turned his hat around, it was game time now. "Lucario, change of plans! Steel beam!"

Lucario heard right away and fired off a massive steel beam in a Kamehameha style attack. The steel beam sliced cleanly through the vines and struck Sceptile straight in the face.

Ash yelled, "Now get in close and end this with close combat!"

Sceptile looked up in fear as Mega-Lucario jumped off the branch with a glowing fist and a bad attitude.

Lucario struck Sceptile more times than Ash could count, and faster than he could see. Lucario then picked up Sceptile by his neck bandana where his keystone was and slapped him so hard Ash winced on the other side of the arena.

Sceptile reverted to his base form from the attack, and that was that.

Ash Ketchum won the semi finals of the Kalos League.

Again.
