Hermione woke up first, feeling Draco's arms wrapped tightly around her waist. She thought about all the events that happened last night. They left the trial on a high, only for the night to crash with Ron's interruption, but when they arrived back at Draco's flat they made the most of the night they had left. Hermione couldn't help but lick her lips as she thought about their night together. It was the best she's ever had, and it left her wanting more. She could feel his shallow breaths on her shoulder and his abs against her bare back. She didn't want to leave this comfort, so she strategically slipped her book off the end table without moving and began to read.
Draco woke up a little way after, his eyes fluttering open to see Hermione's wild hair all over the pillow next to him. His eyes traveled down her body, and he happily took in her scent. He tried not to move, wanting to watch her read for a while. He watched as her eyes scanned the pages, sometimes pausing on words, sometimes scanning over them like they weren't even there. There was no possible way she was comfortable reading like this, she even struggled to turn the pages without dropping the book. He felt her steady breath and longed to have an infinite amount of moments like this. Although he felt like he could stay there forever, he really did need to pee so he whispered softly to her.
"Whatcha reading?" He asked, kissing her neck softly. She jumped a little bit, startled by his sudden wake.
"How long have you been awake?" She asked, continuing to read.
"Just woke." He lied, nuzzling his head into her neck.
"Mhm" She responded, now getting very distracted by his kisses along her neck and shoulder. She closed her book and spun around so that she was facing him. "Good morning."
"Morning" He mumbled, yawning slightly before he kissed her. "What were you reading?" He asked again, this time more adamantly.
"It's a muggle book called To Kill a Mockingbird." She answered, kissing him again.
"What's it about?"
"You'll have to read it to find out." She retorted, turning back around and grabbing the book off the end table. Draco reached around her to grab the book from her hands, but Hermione was too quick for him, holding it just out of reach. "Honestly, you could use your words you know." She chided playfully.
"Well I didn't have the best role models." He bantered, and there was a brief moment of silence before they both laughed. "Oh god, please excuse me." He said, leaping from the bed and almost running to the bathroom. Hermione decided to take that time to put his PJs back on that he lent her. "You didn't have to get dressed." Draco sighed, but took her lead and slipped on his boxers. "You look good in those though."
"Do I?" Hermione countered, fake modeling the clothes which caused Draco to laugh.
"So what do you want to do today?" He asked, joining her on the bed and pulling her almost onto his lap.
"I kind of want to visit my parents…" She started slowly. "...but you don't have to come with me." Hermione added quickly, as if covering her tracks.
"Do you not want me to come?" He questioned, leaning a bit away from her.
"No of course I do, but this is all very new and I didn't want to scare you." Hermione explained.
"If you can face my psychopath of a father, I can meet your parents." Draco said earnestly. "Tell me about them."
"Well they are dentists." Hermione answered, and when she saw the pure look of confusion on Draco's face she chuckled. "It's a muggle profession for cleaning and repairing teeth." Draco nodded slowly. "I had to um…modify their memories during the war, I restored them after but they sometimes bring it up." Hermione's voice was filled with guilt.
"You did and reversed a memory charm by yourself?" Draco asked, sounding impressed.
"Yes…"
"Brightest witch of her age" Draco muttered, kissing her lightly on the forehead. "I'm sure you did what you needed to do at the time." Draco added, seeing Hermione's immense guilt in her eyes.
"It was just hard, having to explain it all." Hermione sighed, leaning back into his chest.
"Weaslebee didn't go with you?" Draco blurted out in disbelief.
"No." Hermione spat, but then took a deep breath. "No…it's one of the reasons I fell out of love with him." Hermione explained.
"Rightfully so." Draco retorted, placing his hand on her cheek so that she would look at him. "You aren't going alone." He said and he kissed her firmly. "So when do you want to go?"
"Let me just take a shower and we can go." Hermione said, placing a firm kiss on his lips. While doing so she switched her position to straddling him, and then hopped off the bed.
"What a tease!" He said playfully as he watched her leave the room.
Draco couldn't believe his luck. How is it that he had not only landed the girl, but won the case against his father. He felt like the whole world was shifting in his favor, something he still couldn't quite fathom. He knew things weren't perfect. Weaslebee was being a prick, and his mother was still well, indisposed, but he felt like this was starting to turn around. He got dressed into dark blue jeans and a button down gray shirt hoping Hermione didn't expect him to dress more formally. Hermione came out of the shower wrapped in one of his green towels and somehow looked more amazing than when she went in. Her wet curls were falling in front of her eyes, as she struggled to find her wand. Draco watched her search the bed and scan the floor before he said anything.
"You're a witch, summon it." He said lightly, laughing a bit at her actions.
"I always forget." She exclaimed and did as he said, her wand zooming in from the kitchen.
"That you're a witch?" Draco bantered, raising an eyebrow at her.
"Yes."
"Maybe you need to get checked out by the healers." He joked, and she threw a pillow at him. Hermione muttered something and did a little flick with her wand and suddenly she was also dressed in jeans and a sweater. "Like the outfit." He blurted out, and she smiled sheepishly at the compliment.
"Lock all the doors, and we can just apparate from inside." She instructed, and he did as he was told. "Don't let go" She ordered, as she took his hand in hers and they left with a POP.
They landed in a small alleyway on a suburban street. Cars were bustling by and they could hear children playfully nearby. Hermione led Draco out of the alleyway and onto the stone street. They walked about a block and then Hermione turned down one the driveways and led them up to the house. There were two sedans in the driveway, which seemed to indicate that both her parents were home. Hermione knocked on the door, which indicated to Draco that she doesn't stop by often enough to just walk in. The door swung open to reveal an average height man with a newspaper in his hand.
"Hermione! Honey, Hermione's here!" Her dad exclaimed, hugging his daughter tightly and ushering them inside. "And who is this?" Her dad asked, glancing at their intertwined hands.
"Dad, this is Draco." Hermione introduced, and Draco shook hands with him.
"Draco from school? The one that you punched?" Her mother asked as she entered the room. Hermione's face went red with embarrassment, but it was clear her mother meant no harm.
"Which I deserved." Draco said, which caused Hermione's mom to laugh and greet him with a friendly hug.
"Smart man you've got here." She said towards Hermione, who's face had still not calmed down from the initial embarrassment.
"Draco, you smoke?" Hermione's father asked, and Draco thought this must be a trick. If he cared for teeth, why would he smoke?
"Only socially." Draco answered, thinking it was the safest response he could think of.
"Come join me." Her dad said, gesturing towards the kitchen where Draco assumed a back door was.
"You know, you'd think a dentist would stop such a bad habit." Mrs Granger called after them as they left.
Draco followed Mr Granger through the kitchen and a small sitting room to the back door. There was a nice sized patio with chairs and table before the yard started. Hermione's father lit up a large cigar and took a long wind from it before passing it to Drao, who did the same.
"My wife loves that story…" He started, and Draco knew instantly what he was talking about. "...but I know that for my daughter to hit you, there must have been a pretty big build up." He said sternly, eyeing Draco carefully.
"I wasn't the nicest kid." Draco answered honestly.
"Because you liked her?" Mr Granger asked, seemingly dissatisfied with that explanation.
"No, not because I liked her." Draco answered, and Mr Granger's eyes were wide with surprise. "Because I was raised by parents who didn't lead by example in the kind department." Draco took a long draw from the cigar, as if to fix his pain.
"I'm sorry to hear that…" Mr Granger responded kindly. "...but my daughter deserves the world."
"Couldn't agree more." Draco retorted firmly.
"If you ever give her another reason to hit you…" Mr Granger tried his best to intimidate. "...she won't be the one throwing the punch." He finished off the cigar and put it in the ashtray.
"I'd expect nothing less." Draco answered, and they made their way back inside to join the women.
Hermione and her mother were sitting in the living room by the front door, seemingly having prepared lunch. The men joined their significant others silently, as they were in the middle of a discussion that Draco didn't understand a single word of.
"Mum you shouldn't be paying that much for the telly!"
"It's fine honey, we can afford it."
"That's not the point! You aren't even getting premium channels and you are paying way more than we used to pay for all the channels."
"The sales rep told me that it pays off in the end."
"You let her go by herself to a sales rep?" Hermione turned on her father, who was unphased to say the least.
"I didn't let her go anywhere. She went and she bought this service." His answered pointedly.
"On her own?"
"Yes."
"You know she doesn't know how to bargain dad!" Hermione almost yelled. Draco did not understand anything that they were talking about, but he did find it amusing.
"She didn't need to bargain Hermione, we can afford it." Her answered evenly, mirroring his wife's words from before.
"Since when did you two get so easy going about money?" Hermione asked, her head cocked to the side.
"When we realized we were saving it for nobody." Her mother said flatly, which caused Hermione to go red again, but this time from anger.
"Excuse me, what is that supposed to mean?" Hermione exclaimed, tensely up completely.
"Honey…" Her mother started softly. "...you don't need our money anymore."
"What do-"
"When you were growing up we had to make sure we had a rainy day fund for you. It's what parents do, a college fund and whatnot, but when we found out that you are a witch…well it changed everything. You won't need college, so that's a lot of extra money. While we lived our other life…" Draco knew she meant when Hermione wiped their memories. "...it was nice to not be worried about money, and when you fixed us, you were already settled. You're a hero in the wizarding world, and we are so proud of you…but it means that we can live a bit more freely than when you depended on us." Her mother explained, and Draco could tell Hermione was upset. He placed his hand on the small of her back and felt her lean into him slightly.
"I'm sorry mum…" Hermione sighed, and her mother took her hand within hers.
"No honey, that wasn't a negative…in a way, you gifted us with perspective." Her mother said sweetly. "Do tell us about this new development." She added, eying the couple.
They spent the next few hours catching up and then said their goodbyes. Hermione mentioned wanting to stop at her flat, so her and Draco made their way back to the alleyway and left with a POP. They appeared outside of Hermione's flat, which suspiciously has the front door ajar. Hermione whipped out her wand, stepping forward timidly. Draco threw his arm out to stop her, and gave her a look before he walked ahead of her, his wand raised and at the ready.
They walked in the front door to find things tossed around as if someone raided the place. Hermione couldn't understand how this happened, she had put so many protections on the flat, but then she suddenly understood. They walked into the living room to find Ron sitting on the couch with his head in his hands. Ron was connected to her floo, he must have come in that way, which doesn't have any protections on it. Ron's head snapped up as they approached, his eyes were unreadable.
"I came looking for you, but of course you were with him." Ron spat angrily.
