A few days later, Ebonia was perched on a mountain ledge, waiting for Devrialstrasz's inevitable arrival. She knew a dragon's stomach would start complaining about hunger after a week, faster if one engaged in constant strenuous activity. She had captured and killed two goats, one for her and one for Devrialstrasz, so he'd have more time to tell her about the rest of Azeroth.

She smiled as she saw a red shape flying into the mountain range. She shot a jet of flames into the air, catching the red dragon's attention. He flew over, and it became clear that he was, indeed, Devrialstrasz, and not some other red dragon.

Devrialstrasz landed in front of her, and asked, "Did you catch this goat for me?"

Ebonia replied, "Of course! I want to know as much about Azeroth as possible. Mother hardly tells me anything, other than the fact that almost everything out there is scared of or is an enemy of my kind."

Devrialstrasz nodded. "Well...let's get started with something basic."

He plucked a blade of grass from the ground. "What is this?", he asked.

Ebonia frowned. "It's just a piece of grass. Why?"

Devrialstrasz said, "I see that I have a lot to tell you. Yes, this is just a blade of grass. But at the same time, it's part of something much, much more."

Ebonia had no idea where he was going with this.

"This piece of grass, insignificant as it is, is part of a huge chain of life. It seems like nothing, but it is a part of something so massive and beautiful that even this one piece of grass can be wonderful.", he continued, "That massive and beautiful thing is life. This blade of grass, that delicious goat, you and I, we are all a part of it. Even Azeroth is part of it. All of it, it is a miracle, an extraordinary wonder, something we must preserve at all costs."

Ebonia sat there silently, thinking about what he was saying. Devrialstrasz continued to explain.

"My flight, the red dragonflight, it is our sacred mission to protect all of life. We gained this duty from our queen, who in turn gained this duty from the titans themselves. All life is to be treasured, and we defend it from those who would destroy it.", he said, "Are you following so far?"

Ebonia replied, "It's, well, confusing. Why is a blade of grass important? All it does is sit there."

Devrialstrasz answered, "True, but it is important in its own way. Grass is food for our food, and the countryside wouldn't look as beautiful or feel as comfortable without it."

Ebonia replied, "I suppose that makes a little sense."

Devrialstrasz said, "Good. Now, I will explain more about our purpose. One blade of grass here and there isn't much of a problem. We try to avoid interfering with the natural cycle of life as much as possible. However, to continue our metaphor, what about when someone burns the whole field to the ground? The repercussions of that are devastating and deserves our attention."

"Who would do that, though?", asked Ebonia, understanding the metaphor.

Devrialstrasz replied, "The Burning Legion. The Old Gods." He gave her a serious look. "The aspect of your flight, and his servants."

Ebonia looked horrorstruck. "I don't know what they do, really...but surely there must be a reason?"

Devrialstrasz replied, "If there is a reason, and there's none from what I've seen besides the fact he's insane and overly paranoid, then it isn't a good one. I can see why they spare you the details...it's too easy for one as curious and open-minded as you to try and resist it. Perhaps they're waiting until you're older, or can put you under the Aspect's control. I don't particularly know, but I do know that I want you to avoid becoming one of the destroyers."

Ebonia frowned, her worldview drastically shifted. Finally, she said, "I won't destroy senselessly like them, assuming that's true. But what should I do?"

Devrialstrasz replied, "For one, don't reveal any of this to anyone. I would be killed as swiftly as possible if your flight figured out that I was visiting you and teaching you my point of view. As for what else you should do...I'd wait until you know more about the world. I am trying to plan something very important, and if you assist me I want you to know more about your options afterwards."

He looked around nervously. "I should return soon, or the overseers are going to get suspicious. But remember one thing: all life is to be treasured. Even if it seems pointless, or weak, or is horrible and must be eradicated, it is still life, and one should not destroy life unless it is necessary or cannot be avoided. Remember this, and everything will fall into place after that."

He spread his wings, and flew off, leaving Ebonia to stare at the piece of grass he'd left behind, and wonder.*
