Top Percentage.
For "In the Forest", may you still be here to see it.
There's Pokemon breeding, and then there's what Christopher does. And that is a lot of number crunching, in the name of having the best suited pokemon for a given task.
Not everyone wants this service, but it is niche enough to be in demand and well paying. And people are happy enough to adopt the Pokemon who are different natured.
Christopher works in natures. A Chancy for a nurse who likes fighting is best suited to be modest. For ones who spend more time healing, natures good for defending are better suited. Gentle, careful, calm, good for being around patients. Some bold ones thrown in there to take charge when needed.
For a Machop going into battle, an adamant nature is ideal, and for a builder brave ones, and relaxed ones work well together. Naughty is not good for serious work, and lonely can go either way.
Just because something has a lonely nature, does not always mean they like to be alone.
He advises on teams. Balances pokemon's natures for working together, just as much as strategically good for battle. A good trainer learns to work with many types of pokemon, and many personalities in them.
His company hires egg hatchers, and Pokemon catchers. He's confident he can get his son almost any kind of pokemon in the world.
It shouldn't be a surprise when Joey asked for a Rattata. He loves them, purple and fanged and amazing.
"I am going to get you the best Rattata" he promises his son.
A Jolly nature, he decides after a lot of calculating. Good speed, and more easygoing than a hasty would be.
Rattas are not hard to find, but it takes him many tries to find the one he wants. But looking at it on the PC afterwards, he feels fairly certain.
"Joey" He declares "This is the top percentage of Rattatas. What do you want to call this one?"
"Rattata!"
So Christopher gives Joey Rattata the top percentage of Rattatas.
Nervously of course. But, all children grow up one day, of course. And the best gift he can give his son is a Pokemon to love, and faith that he can do it.
It's strange and kind of lonely clicking the name of reviewer's and seeing only empty profiles. I don't even know if you are still on fanfiction to see this, "In the Forest", but I hope you are. Sorry for the long long wait. I wandered off on an unintentional Hiatus and didn't quite know how to come back. But here it is. I kind of ended up on a track about stats, which was neat worldbuilding to work with.
