Chapter 21: The third task

Today is the day, the day of the third task. I was getting my Triwizard shirt on with my red leggings to match the colors when I heard my name being called. "Lana, come on it's time to go!" Sarabi called. "I'm coming!" I shouted back. When I finished getting my clothes on, I quickly made my bed, brushed my hair, and grabbed my wand. I ran out the door of my room and met up with my family. "There you are! We were about to come up and get you," Sarabi said. "Sorry, I was just running behind," I said. "Let's go down to the Great Hall before breakfast ends," Katniss said. "I was just about to say the same thing," Gale said, grinning at Katniss and winking at her.

"Come on then, let's go," Hermione said. Sarabi picked me up by the scruff of my neck and we ran down to the great hall. We sat down at the Gryffindor table and ate our breakfast before the third task. "How are you feeling, Lana?" Uru said. "I'm a bit nervous. I don't know if I will make it out alive this time." I said. "Hey, super, don't worry. You made it out of the other tasks before." Gale said.

"I know Gale but I..." Gale cut me off. "Hey, listen. You're gonna make it. You're strong, just like your mother." Gale said. "Thanks, Gale," I said. "Well, the third task is about to start. Ready, Lana?" Harry said as he stood up. "Yeah, I guess so," I said. "Hey, good luck out there today!" Katniss said. "Thanks, mom," I said. I held onto Harry's hand as he led me to the third task. "I'm nervous, dad. I don't know what's gonna happen," I said.

"I know you're nervous, honey, but as Gale said, you're gonna make it out alive," Harry said. When we arrived at the third task later, we stood behind the stage of the arena. When we walked out, live music was playing and people were cheering on the champions.

Professor Dumbledore put a hand on Harry and my shoulders and gave us a signal to walk on. We walked further into the arena and behind the stands. My husband, Cato, was in the arena with me to support me and help me get started on the third task. "Diggory! Diggory!" The crowd chanted. "Silence!" Professor Dumbledore shouted through his wand. The crowd quieted down and sat down. "Earlier today, Professor Moody placed the Triwizard cup deep within the maze.

Only he knows its exact position. Now, as Mr. Diggory..." The crowd erupted in cheers when Professor Dumbledore mentioned his name. "And Mr. And Miss Potter..." Professor Dumbledore started. The crowd erupted with cheers again, "are tied for the first position, they will be the first to enter the maze, followed by Mr. Krum and Ms. Delacour. The first person to touch the cup will be the winner." Professor Dumbledore said. Everyone cheered. "I've instructed the stairs to patrol the perimeter. Should, at any point, a contestant wish to withdraw from the task, he or she will only need to send red sparks with their wands.

Contestants! Gather around quickly." Professor Dumbledore said the last sentence, turning to us. We did as he said and gathered around him. "In the maze, you'll find no dragons or creatures of the deep. Instead, you'll face something even more challenging. You see, people change in the maze. Oh, find the cup if you can. But be very wary. You could just lose yourselves along the way." Professor Dumbledore warned us. "Champions, prepare yourselves!" Professor Dumbledore shouted.

The music began playing as we all lined up at each entrance of the mazes. I and Cato stood at my entrance of the maze. I sighed nervously and held onto my wand tightly. "You're gonna be okay, kitty," Cato said. "I'm just nervous, that's all," I said. "Good luck; I'll see you when it's over," Cato said as he patted me on the shoulder and walked away. "On the count of three you may..." Professor Dumbledore started but yet again, the cannon went off before he even started. Professor Dumbledore looked clearly annoyed by this.

The music started up again and I faced the entrance of the maze. I slowly and nervously walked inside the maze. When I was a few steps in, I turned around and looked at the crowd and Cato. Cato gave me a signal to go, and with that, the vines of the entrance of the maze had closed. This was it. No way out now. I was breathing heavily as I walked around the dark and eerie maze. I gasped and turned around as I thought I heard a noise. "Dad?" I called.

I heard some noises and I began running. I gasped when the walls were closing in on me and I screamed. I sprinted past the vines that were closing in on me and thankfully I made it out of the bushes. I stopped and caught my breath for a few seconds.

Later, I met up with my dad, Harry, and ran up to him. "Dad?" I said. Harry was kneeling down next to Fleur who was wrapped up in the vines. "Fleur?" Harry said. Harry sends up some red sparks. After he did that, Harry looked at me. "Lana, you okay?" Harry said. "Yeah," I said.

I felt the wind picking up. Harry and I turned around and saw the Triwizard cup in the distance. "Dad, look, the cup!" I cried. The walls in front of us closed in, blocking the entrance to the cup. "Get down!" Cedric cried suddenly. Harry and I ducked as Krum shot a spell at us. "Expelliarmus!" Cedric cried and the spell shot at Krum, knocking him out. Harry ran up to Krum and kicked the wand out of Krum's hand. Cedric ran up to Krum and tried to attack him.

"No, don't, stop!" Harry shouted. "He's bewitched, Cedric!" Harry shouted, trying to hold Cedric back. "Get off me!" Cedric yelled. "Guys, stop!" I yelled. "He's bewitched!" Harry yelled. Cedric got up and ran away and Harry and I followed him. Harry, Cedric, and I were pushing each other. As we were fighting, up ahead of us, we saw the Triwizard cup. "Yes!" Harry and I shouted, excitedly. Harry, Cedric, and I sprinted for the cup.

We grunted as the vines tried to trap us. As we kept running, the vines trapped Cedric. The vines were wrapping around Cedric, dragging him. "Harry, Lana!" Cedric cried. Cedric kept calling out to us for help but we were thinking of what to do. Should we go on and grab the cup and have eternal glory or should we save Cedric? Harry pointed his wand at the vines. "Reducto!" Harry shouted and his spell cut Cedric loose from the vines. We went over to Cedric to untie him. After we untied Cedric, we helped him up. Cedric was gasping for air.

"Tha...thanks," Cedric said. Harry and I nodded. "No problem," Harry said. "You know, for a moment there, I thought you two were gonna let it get me." Cedric said. "For a moment, so did I." Harry said. "Me too. But at least we're alive." I said. "Yeah," Cedric said. "Let's get out of here," I said. "Some game, huh?" Cedric said. "Some game," Harry replied. We heard branches cracking as the walls were starting to close in and the wind was blowing hard. "Go!" Cedric cried. Harry took me by the hand and we were sprinting.

We kept sprinting until we reached the Triwizard cup. "Go on, you guys take it! You guys saved me, take it!" Cedric shouted over the wind. "Together! You too, Lana!" Harry shouted. I nodded. We counted down. When we got to one, we grabbed the cup at the same time. We kept ahold of the cup as it transported us to a different place. When we landed, we let go of the cup. I got up and looked around. We were in some type of graveyard.

"What is this place?" I wondered aloud. "You okay?" Harry said. "Yeah, you?" Cedric said. Harry and I were walking around. "Where are we?" Cedric said. "I'm wondering the same thing," I said. "I've been here before," Harry said. "What?!" I said. "Guys, the cup is a portkey." Cedric said.

"I've been here before. In a dream." Harry said. Harry looked at a grave.

I looked at it too. The grave marked 'tom riddle' "Who's this guy?" I said. "Cedric, Lana. we need to get back to the cup, now!" Harry said. "What are you talking about?" Cedric said. "Yeah, Dad, what's wrong?" I said with worry. Just then a man walked outside.

Harry started screaming and holding onto his forehead as a cauldron lit the fire. "Dad!" I cried with worry. "Harry, what is it?" Cedric said. "You and Lana get back to the cup!" Harry shouted. Harry grunted in pain. I saw the man carrying a small body in his arms. Cedric and I stood up. "Lana, get behind me," Cedric said. I nodded and got behind Cedric. "Who are you and what do you want?!" Cedric shouted. "Kill the spare," The small person said.

"Avada Kedavra!" The man shouted pointing his wand at Cedric. The magic hit Cedric, and Cedric died instantly. "No!" I cried. "No, Cedric!" Harry cried. I had tears streaming down my face. I went over to Cedric. I tried waking him up. "Cedric, wake up!" I cried. Cedric was lying lifeless on the ground.

The man then lifted Harry up with his wand, pulling him back and kept him pinned to the wall of the grave. The man then used the broom of the grave, had it under Harry's chin, and locked it into place to keep him from, moving. "Dad!" I cried. "Lana, get to the cup, now!" Harry shouted. I was about to go to the cup when the man stopped me. He forced me to move backward with his wand. I was pinned to the wall of the grave next to Harry. The man lifted my arms up and rope appeared from the walls. The man used his wand to tie my hands to the wall with the rope, and the rope tied my feet together as well. I looked at Harry who was struggling to get free. I tried getting free but the ropes were too tight on me.

The man then started performing some type of ritual.
