Chapter 28: The dementors

It is a week into the summertime and I miss my family already. It feels so different being without them because I am with my family all the time. I and Harry decided to go to the park one afternoon just to hang out and get some fresh air but our cousin Dudley and his gang had to ruin it for us. We were sitting on the swings and Harry was reading his newspaper, while I was listening to my music with my headphones on, singing quietly to myself. I stopped singing when Dudley and his gang walked up to us. "Don't worry, I'll handle this," Harry whispered in my ear. I nodded.

Harry was the first one to speak up. "Hey, big D. Beat up another 10-year-old?" "This one deserved it," Dudley said. "Yeah." The others agreed. "Five against one, very brave," Harry said. "Well, you're one to talk," Dudley said. "Moaning in your sleep every night. At least I'm not afraid of my pillow." Dudley said and the others laughed. He then began mocking Harry. "Don't kill Cedric! Who's Cedric, you're boyfriend?" Dudley said.

Dudley was starting to piss me off, and I can tell Harry was starting to get pissed off as well. "Shut up," Harry said. "He's going to kill me mum! Where is your mum? Where is your mum, Potter? She dead?" Dudley said and the others laughed. What Dudley had said set me off. Dudley continued mocking Harry. "Is she dead? Is she dead Potter?" Dudley said. Harry snapped and sprinted up to Dudley and whipped his wand out.

He pointed his wand at Dudley. "Dad what are you doing? We're not allowed to use magic out of school!" I cried. "Go home Lana, I'll handle this," Harry said. "But dad I..." I started but was cut off when I saw some grey clouds coming over us. "What are you doing?" Dudley said.

"I'm not doing anything," Harry said. Dudley's gang ran away but Dudley just stayed with Harry and I. The wind was picking up fast and my hair was blowing in the wind. "Run!" Harry cried. "Dad, I can't run!" I shouted. Harry ran up to me and picked me up and I held onto my crutches as we sprinted down the streets. After a while of running, we got into a bridge and Harry set me down. I stood on my crutches for support. "Are you doing okay?" Harry asked me. "Yeah dad, I think so," I said. "Okay, just hang in there, we'll be home soon," Harry said. I nodded and took a few moments to catch my breath.

The lights began flickering and a creature, more like a demon came up and attacked Harry. The demon grabbed Harry and pinned him against the wall, choking him. "Dad!" I cried. "Dudley, Lana, run." Harry choked out. Dudley ran and fell. Another demon came up and attacked Dudley. These creatures were horrifying! They seemed to be sucking something out of their faces. I was scared. If Hermione were here, she would know what to do.

I tried to run away but my broken foot was making it hard to run away. Harry was able to get away from the creatures. Another one came out to attack me. I screamed. What Harry did next was unbelievable. He used magic! "Expecto Patronum!" Harry yelled. There was a bright light shining and the demon went away. Harry used the same spell on the demon that was on Dudley and it disappeared.

Dudley was in bad condition now as he was passed out. I crawled over to Harry. "Are you alright?" Harry asked me. I nodded and took a moment to catch my breath. Just then, an old woman walked up to us. "Ms. Figg?" Harry said when he saw her. "Don't put your wand away Harry. They might come back." Ms. Figg said. Later, we were walking back home with Mrs. Figg. Dudley was leaning on Harry as he was still weak from the attacks.

"Dementors in Little Whinging? Whatever next?" Harry asked her. "The whole world's gone topsy-turvy." Mrs. Figg said. "I don't understand, How did you know about..." Harry said, confused. "Dumbledore asked me to keep an eye on you and your daughter." Mrs. Figg said. "Dumbledore? You know Dumbledore?" Harry said, sounding even more surprised. "Uh-huh...After you-know-who killed that poor Diggory boy last year. Did he expect you to let you go wandering around on your own? Good lord, boy, they told me you were intelligent. Now, get inside and stay there. I expect someone will be in touch soon." Mrs. Figg said.

Mrs. Figg leaned into Harry's ear and whispered, "Whatever happens, Don't leave the house." With that, Harry, Dudley, and I walked inside the house where we were greeted by Aunt Petunia and Uncle Vernon. "Duddy! Vernon, come quick." Aunt Petunia said.

"You have to take him to a hospital." Aunt Petunia said as she sat Dudley down. "Who did this to you, boy?" Uncle Vernon asked him. Dudley said nothing and pointed at Harry and I. Uncle Vernon looked at us angrily.

"Happy now, are we? Eh? You and you're stupid daughter finally done it. You guys finally driven him loopy!" Uncle Vernon shouted. "Vernon, don't say that." Aunt Petunia whispered. "Well, J-Just look at him, Petunia! Our boy is gone yumpy! I've reached my limit, do you hear? This is the last I am gonna take of your guy's nonsense!" Uncle Vernon shouted. "But Uncle Vernon, we didn't do anything!" I protested. "I don't want to hear another word out of you, young lady!" Uncle Vernon yelled.

Just then an owl flew in with a letter. Uh-oh, it looked like a howler. The letter dropped on the floor and the owl flew away. The letter flew up in the air. It started speaking, "Dear Mr. Potter. The ministry has received intelligence that at 6:23 this evening you performed the Patronus Charm in the presence of a muggle as a clear violation of the Decree for the Reasonable Restrictions of Underage Sorcery you are hereby expelled from Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardy. Hope you and your daughter are doing well, Mafalda Hopkrick." The letter closed up. I looked at Harry nervously. What does this mean for me? Will he lose custody of me too?

Uncle Vernon looked at us with a smirk on his face. "Justice."
