Chapter 8
Chiron Briefing Room
"Commander we would again like to thank you and your crew for saving us" said Captain Limaki. The last 2 hours had been busy with getting everyone off the shuttles and getting the Vipers back under control. Three more of the Kestrel's survivors had died and five more were in critical condition. Dr. Andros and his people were taking care of them. The Kestrel's Commander, XO, Chief Engineer, and Tactical Officer were in the room.
"You are welcome Captain. I was hoping you have more information on what happened to your ship" said Cmdr. Jasper. They had compared the sensor logs from the Kestrel's Raptors when they were in New Hadrian and it was the same Cylon Basestar they had also ran into.
"Sir I did have everyone do an after action report while we were waiting" said Captain Limaki. Seeing the somewhat puzzled looks from the Chiron's officers. "It was an attempt to distract them. Most is what you would expect but a few had more information. It appears that linked systems crashed just before the Cylons attacked us."
"Thank you Captain. I have a few announcements. First Captain I am officially adding the Kestrel crewmembers as under my command. Also I am making you the CAG. Coordinate with Lt. Greene" said Jasper.
"Aye sir. Thank you sir" said Captain Limaki. This was not a surprise but still going to be a lot of work and getting egos under control. "Would you like me to make the announcement to everyone on the flight deck, sir" Limaki asked. The pilots and deckhands were working on their small craft anyway and the survivors of the Kestrel hadn't yet been given quarters.
"That would be fine Captain" said Jasper. "Lt. Swanson I want all linked systems removed or disabled immediately. Tell the civilian ships to do the same" said Jasper. No way of knowing if whatever happened would also effect the civilian ships. "Lt. Anders you are now to proceed with the Libran Dreams plan. Look over the crew and make your crew planning. XO stay here everyone else dismissed" said Jasper. They were all going to be very busy before the morning meeting.
Chiron Flight POD
Captain Limaki had given Lt. Greene a heads up about having to remove the networking on the Vipers and Raptors. Limaki stood up on a set of stairs and motioned for all to be quiet. "Listen up everyone. The crew of the Kestrel had officially been added to the Chiron and I am now your CAG. I expect all my birds to be working in tip top shape. All pilots and ECOs report to the pilot ready room. All deck crew report stay here. If you are neither move over that way" gesturing towards the port side. "Someone will be with you shortly."
It only took a minute to get all pilots over to the ready room. Minus the Raptor and 2 Vipers that were out on CAP everyone was here. "Let's me make a very brief introduction. I am Captain Greg Limaki call sign Limes. I was the flight squad leader of the Red Talons. I am now CAG of the Kestrels. I am aware that 9 Vipers is not enough to do a CAP full time. Too bad we are going to do it anyway. Any questions?"
"More good news. We are removing the CNP and any linked systems." This time there were some groans. The Mk VII could fly unlinked but it was more work. "Any questions?"
After the round of "no sir" Limaki continued. "We will work out details soon. Right now check on your planes before your next CAP.
Lt. Greene had taken CPO Aspers and PO Glover off to the side "PO Glover I would like a personnel report on your people ASAP. No BS I need to know who is a danger and who can fix things. And check if we can get that Raptor able to jump. Chief Aspers assign someone to find quarters for the pilots and all the deck crew." Greene knew that the flyboys wouldn't bother to do the work there just expect it do be done. "Also let's figure out how to get rid of those people who don't seem to have any current duties." Aspers would be able to pawn them off to their respective departments. Well except for the Marines.
Author's Notes
There will be some more information regarding things but I am planning on letting things "work themselves out" regarding the two crews getting along. Let's just say somewhere between Voyager and the issues that the Galactica and Pegasus had.
