Darkest Day
"Well it makes sense as you look just like the prince, it's almost as if I'm looking at a mirror!" Sonia gestured towards the tapestry before motioning back towards Zach. "And he's holding up Zamazenta's shield, you're the one whose seen Zamazenta!"
"So what? Are you implying that the reason Ash and I are able to see the wolves is because we're the descendants of the heroes of Galar's past?" Zach gave Sonia a brief look as he questioned her before turning his gaze back towards the tapestry. He had to admit that it was quite strange how the two heroes of Galar's past were not only mirror images of him and Ash but were also holding the corresponding item that matched with the wolf the two had initially met in Slumbering Weald all those months ago.
"Pika..." Pikachu scratched his cheek and narrowed his eyes as he wondered how on earth there were so many 'ancient heroes' that looked just like Ash!
"Of course, this would also explain why your friends couldn't see them. The wolves must have formed a connection with your bloodlines that allowed for their spirits to communicate with the two of you all these years later!" Sonia exclaimed.
"Yes but me being royalty?! I don't see it." Zach's expression turned doubtful as he gazed towards his ancestor.
"You wouldn't be the actual king of Galar, there's still some royalty out there in the world but that's long since been abolished. It'd just be a symbol of status and access to the wealth if it can be proven, like most of the major bloodlines that are still around." Sonia glanced towards Dawn's hat which still sat atop his head. 'Well it's obvious he has a girlfriend again, at least I don't have to worry about somebody trying to take advantage of him if my theory is correct.'
"But why would the wolves communicate with us?" Ash questioned as he still didn't understand that part.
"Good question and I believe it has to do with that." Sonia pointed towards the large purple alien Pokemon, the purple and red clouds that were familiarized with the Dynamax phenomenon could be seen spiraling in the clouds directly above the strange Pokemon while also stretching out across the tapestry, covering the entire sky with the clouds! "Darkest Day isn't referring to a dark day in history, it's the Pokemon itself! It's called Darkest Day!"
"Well that's original." Zach commented with a light drop of sweat.
"So the heroes of the past defeated this 'Darkest Day'?" Ash questioned.
"Well obviously," Sonia let out a light laugh. "Otherwise that'd still be going on. If I were to guess the wolves possibly didn't make it out of the battle which is why they're trapped in spirit form and if that's the case they wouldn't have much reason to interact with the two of you unless-"
"Darkest Day is coming back?!" Zach asked with a horrified expression as he recalled how Zamazenta had warned him that 'Darkness was coming'!
"Bingo!" Sonia exclaimed before going on alert as her Rotom Phone started going off, it wasn't just her though as everyone reached for their Rotom Phones as they all started going off at once!
"Huh?" Zach felt for his jacket but only felt the t-shirt that he usually wore beneath it. 'Dawn!' He realized that Dawn must have put it on in their hurry to investigate the earlier events. He quickly turned towards where Dawn had previously been to check only for her to not be there. "That's strange, she just said she wouldn't leave me..." Zach narrowed his eyes as he realized something wasn't right here. Marnie and May were also missing so he could only assume that the girl's sudden disappearance had to do with the ringing Rotom Phones!
'Bede!' He looked around before narrowing his eyes, his fists tightly clenched as he realized that Bede wasn't anywhere in sight either. 'I sure hope you didn't have anything to do with this Bede!' Although they weren't friends anymore he never imagined that Bede would just break bad.
Zach scooted closer to Sonia and peered over her shoulder to look at her Rotom Phone as Chairman Rose's face lit up every screen with the man's voice speaking out shortly afterwards. "People of Galar, no need to be alarmed I have found a solution to our energy crisis!" Chairman Rose's face was quite different than how he usually looked, bags were under his eyes and he had a rather possessive grin across his face as he spoke out. Oleana however looked the same as usual, her expression cold and uncaring as she stood behind the Chairman. "A thousand years from now we'd have exhausted all of our resources and lose access to the every day features that humanity has grown so attached to. Imagine if tomorrow we lost all access to the internet or the phone towers shut down! So much would be lost if power was lost and humanity would soon turn against each other and destroy one another as they wouldn't know what to do without power! But I have a solution to Galar's energy crisis, no the world's energy crisis! I'm bringing back the Darkest Day!" Rose turned the camera to showcase the large purple alien Pokemon which was fast asleep atop of a large powerplant of some sort.
"What?! The guy's clearly gone made, even I'm smart enough to know that people are already working on sane methods of fixing these problems! Besides that's thousands of years from now, a lot can change by then!" Zach exclaimed.
"Meet Eternatus!"
"Eternatus?" Ash questioned.
"Formerly known as 'Darkest Day', I've given him this name because of the infinite amount of particles that he produces. The same particles that allow for Pokemon to undergo the Dynamax phenomenon! The particles are immensely powerful and can be used to power Galar and all the powerplants throughout the world for the rest of eternity!"
"So what he's making Eternatus a living battery?" Zach questioned.
"That sounds like slavery!" Ash remarked with a light growl.
"I have hired some powerful trainers to capture Eternatus for me and once they succeed you'll no longer have to worry about the energy problem!" Chairman Rose flashed a creepy smile as a Salamence, Metagross, and Skarmory were released behind him by unseen trainers. The Pokemon all let out fierce cries as they rushed forward to attack Eternatus while Chairman Rose watched on with a smirk.
Eternatus let out a pained screech as he was struck by a combination of Hyper Beam, Meteor Mash and Brave Bird.
"Alright we got him!"
"Good job mates, this will be an easy pay date!"
"Argh, I hope that yer right!"
"Wait-What's he doing?!"
"Crikey!"
"What's that rapscallion doing?!"
Chairman Rose's eyes widened as he seemed to share the shocked look of his mercenary trainers as Eternatus fired off a massive beam of red and purple energy that appeared to be made of the Dynamax energy that resided within his body!
"Skar!"
"Meta!"
"Sala!" The three Pokemon hit the ground immediately upon contact with the beam, their eyes turned to swirls as they laid in defeat.
"Crikey!"
"Screw this, I'm out of here!" Metagross was returned as Pokemon Hunter A rushed into view, bolting for the exit.
"Yep, I'm out! Send me the bill will you, mate?" The sound of somebody teleporting could be heard as Salamence's body disappeared.
"Argh, I think I hear me mother calling me." The pirate themed trainer returned Skarmory before racing off as Eternatus uttered out a fierce sounding cry! The purple and red clouds that formed above him began rapidly stretching out, lighting up Galar's night sky as it spread throughout the region. Bright red and purple lights could be seen bursting from the ground throughout the region and within the vicinity of Stow-on-Side as a trainer's Tyranitar suddenly Dynamaxed and towered over the city while uttering out a loud roar!
"Run, it's Tyranizilla!"
"No no, it's okay! It's my Tyranitar!" A trainer hastily spoke before approaching Tyranitar. "Hey buddy, you mind calming down and leaving that state? People are freaking out here, me included!"
Ferocity burned in Tyranitar's eyes as he gave the trainer an unfamiliar look before charging up a bright beam of energy as he prepared to attack!
"FU!" A Gigantamax Urshifu suddenly appeared and took the blow as it exploded against his face! But as the smoke cleared up, Urshifu flashed Tyranitar a smirk as he proved to be relatively unharmed before delivering an uppercut to Tyranitar's jaw! Tyranitar groaned out as he was knocked off his feet but thankfully he began reverting back to normal before he hit the ground. Tyranitar's eyes were reduced to swirls as a pained groan escaped his lips.
The situation wasn't just happening in Galar though as wishing stars were spread out across the world thanks to Chairman Rose's manipulation. He'd sold thousands of Ash Ketchum action figures and other merchandise, all of it secretly containing wishing stars! The red and purple clouds spread past Galar and began affecting the rest of the world as Darkest Day was under full effect!
Erika hummed as she watered the plants inside her Gym before uttering out a panicked screech as her Venusaur began rapidly growing, she quickly raced out and ran for cover as the fully evolved Grass starter broke apart her Gym and left it in ruin.
Ash's Pokemon were relaxing at Professor Oak's laboratory when Melmetal was suddenly surrounded by strange red and purple clouds. The strange metal Pokemon cried out as his limbs began growing and stretching out! The Pokemon all gazed up in amazement while Tracey's jaw dropped.
"I've got to sketch this!" He pulled out his drawing pad and got to work on drawing before looking up with a panicked expression as the Gigantamaxed Melmetal began attacking his fellow teammates! "Melmetal what's going on?! This is so unlike you!"
"Mime, Mr. Mime!" The Dynamaxed Mimey could be seen miming out in the distance as he formed a large barrier around the small town, effectively closing it off from all form of communication until the situation was resolved!
In the Alola region Guzma watched on with a proud smirk as Tupp, Rapp, Zipp and the others were hard at work training! His eyebrow soon raised upwards as purple and red clouds formed and spiraled around Zipp's Garbodor.
"What the-?!" He shouted out while the Team Skull grunts began panicking.
"W-What's going on?!" Tupp asked.
"I'm not sure!" Wrapp exclaimed.
"Garbodor!" Zipp cried out as Garbodor stretched towards the sky, forming a massive pile of garbage that had a building, a boat, a plane and several cars trapped within the mountain of garbage!
"My boat!" Lenny yelled out as the Garbodor he carelessly threw overboard suddenly reappeared all these weeks later, the Garbodor glared down at him with a ticked off expression as Lenny's yacht was stuck inside of his body! Garbodor reached down before flinging Lenny off the boat with a flick of his finger causing the redneck to loudly squeal as he was sent careening through the Unovan skyline! Garbodor then turned his attention towards shore before making his way towards it.
"I can't believe we're trapped here in the boonies once more!" Leroy growled out as he and Cletus walked through the Goldenrod City streets. "We got on the wrong boat and have no money! How are we supposed ta get to Sinnoh and find that undiscovered Pokemon now?!"
"Uh Leroy?" Leroy heard his brother anxiously speak out as he felt a tap on his shoulder causing him to quickly turn around. "Yes, what is-Holy s-!"
"MACHAMP!" A massive Machamp towered over the city, magma covered his arms as he began lashing out and punching nearby buildings causing rubble to fall to the streets below!
"Let's get out of here!"
"Right brother!"
"That's peculiar," Cynthia noted as a Gigantamaxed Charizard stomped through Sunnyshore City. The World Champion was quick to act as she released Garchomp before quickly making her way to assist with the problem!
"MEOWTH!"
"Ah!" Jessie, James and Wobbuffet ran out of their food truck as Meowth suddenly began stretching out and growing in size before eventually towering over the city that they were currently hiding out in.
"Meowth what's going on with you?!" Jessie shrieked out.
"Wobbuffet!"
"Meowth!" Meowth glared down at them and gave them a ferocious looking stare as sweat began pouring down James' forehead.
"I-I don't think that Meowth is home."
"Meow-!" Meowth lashed out as he tried to grab them but Jessie, James and Wobbuffet were quick to turn around and run off for safety until their friend calmed down!
"Mmm..." Gary leaned his head up against a brunette, their lips interlocked as their arms wrapped around each other. The two lovers were too busy showcasing their love for each other that they didn't notice the darkening sky forming above them.
"Umbre? Umbreon bre bre!" Umbreon's frantic cries broke Gary out of the moment, an irritated look formed across his face as he pulled away from the brunette to look towards his Eeveelution.
"What? What is it-Oh I see..." Gary narrowed his eyes and uttered out a sigh as his Blastoise was suddenly as tall as a skyscraper, glaring down at them while his cannons prepared to blast them with a powerful geyser of water!
"Gary, what's going on?" The brunette asked.
"I'm not sure Leaf but it looks like Dynamax? Stay back, I've got this!"
"Oh no you don't, I'm a trainer too! We'll handle this together!"
Gary smirked at his girlfriend before turning back towards Blastoise as the massive water turtle cried out!
"What the-?" Giovanni stared in shock as his Kingler suddenly grew monstrous and broke out of Rocket Headquarters, the crab Pokemon quickly rampaging towards the nearby Viridian City while unbeknownst to the other Rocket members, Seviper, Mime Jr, Carnivine, Yanmega, Gourgeist and Inkay snuck out to locate their trainers!
Klara was setting up camp in the wild area alongside her Galarian Slowbro when a bright purple-red light suddenly burst from the ground causing her to let out a scream as she leaped away, the tent burst to pieces while another set of purple and red clouds formed around Slowbro's body. The Pokemon began stretching out towards the sky above before glaring down at Klara as he now towered over her. Klara sweated before giving her Dynamaxed Pokemon a nervous wave.
"H-Hey Slowbro..."
"Bro!" Slowbro's eyes shot a bright blue color as he prepared to unleash a Psychic attack on her!
"Eeee!" Klara screeched out before racing for safety with Slowbro right on her heels!
"Are you all okay?" Mustard asked as a crowd formed around him.
"What's going on?!"
"Can you stop that madman?!"
"Don't worry, I'm doing the best I can! I'm not as fast as I used to be." Mustard laughed lightly before his gaze fixated upon Ash and Zach. The Champion was quick to give them a wave as he called out for their attention. "Oi, Ash and Zach! Over here!"
"Mustard!" Ash called out in recognition. He'd never seen Urshifu Gigantamaxed before so he assumed that it was Bea's given that this was her hometown.
"Sensei!"
Mustard's eyes flickered towards Lucario and Cinderace before setting back upon Zach. "You two have done well but it's time to embrace your destiny and save Galar from the Darkest Day! Only the two of you have the power to bring back Zacian and Zamazenta! We must stop Chairman Rose before it's too late, his scheme won't only destroy Galar but the entire world!"
"What do you mean? You can't Dynamax outside of Galar, this is strictly a Galar problem!" Ash spoke up.
"Yes but the toys made in his image contain wishing stars! I discovered it upon my son accidentally breaking his action figure, I thought it might have been a simple accident but I purchased another and purposefully broke it. Then another... they all contained wishing stars!"
"Hold up, there's Ash Ketchum action figures? Since when?" Zach questioned while giving Ash a look.
Ash began nervously sweating. "I-I didn't want to tell you this but Chairman Rose sort of blackmailed me into allowing him to sell merchandise with my likeness! He said if I didn't sign then he'd ban you from the Galar League and strip Marnie's brother of his Gym Leader title."
"He what?!" Zach's eye twitched from annoyance as Porygon 2 hovered next to him. "That's just abusing his power, you should have told Cynthia about it! She could have done something about him!"
"Well it's too late now." Mustard shrugged.
"And now you know, M-Wait where's Marnie?!" Ash frantically looked back and forth while Pikachu copied his trainer's action.
"I'm in the middle of figuring that out, I don't have my phone as Dawn was wearing my jacket-"
"Why was she wearing your jacket?" Ash questioned with a head tilt causing Zach's face to turn bright red.
Sonia giggled out at Ash's obliviousness while Mustard simply shook his head and rolled his eyes with a light smirk.
"Uh... she was cold, yeah because she was cold!'
"Then why do you have her hat?"
"Th-My head was cold okay?!" Zach shouted out as his face was burning bright red. "B-But I may be able to locate my phone and with it, Dawn and hopefully the others! You see Porygon here has entered my phone quite a few times and is basically apart of it as some of his code was left behind inside of it. Far as we know he's the only Porygon '2' in existence so it should be rather simple to find it. I'll just fly all over the region until Porygon gets a signal on his missing code!" It was an idea he conceived shortly after meeting Porygon as he had a habit of misplacing his Rotom Phone and he'd been fortunate enough to not lose one since!
"Pory!" Porygon 2 cheerfully cried out.
"The girls?" Mustard tilted his head. "Oh no, no no no! I'm sorry boys but you're going to have to leave them for now and focus on the threat at hand! The entire world is at stake here! You must retrieve the sword and shield and prepare for battle with Rose and his assistant!"
"I'm not leaving Dawn behind, I love her! I'd never be able to live with myself if something happened to her because of me!" Zach realized that whoever kidnapped her had to have done so to get at him.
Ash pulled out his own Rotom Phone as he prepared to call Professor Oak in order to retrieve the big guns; Charizard, Greninja, Infernape, Sceptile and Gardevoir but he wasn't getting any signal! "Uh oh..."
"You're not leaving the girls behind." Mustard calmly spoke. "You just need to prioritize, we need the wolves to beat Eternatus but only the two of you have the power to summon the wolves! They won't appear for the rest of us. It won't be long until Eternatus undergoes his own Gigantamax transformation and becomes unstoppable, those mercenaries may have hurt him now but only the wolves have the power to stop him once he's undergone his transformation!"
"Mustard's right, I hate to admit it but the two of you have to find the wolves. More hotspots are appearing across the world as time goes on, millions of people could get hurt!" Sonia exclaimed.
Ash gritted his teeth as he knew it was the right thing to do, he didn't like the idea of just leaving Marnie and the others to whatever fate they were currently in but he also understood what was at risk here. Zach and him had a job to do and they needed to do it fast!
Zach clenched his fists while a light growl escaped his lips. "Fine..."
"Sonia, take these two to the Slumbering Weald." Mustard spoke before enlarging a Pokeball as he release his own Corviknight, the Champion was quick to leap onto the raven's back before forming a tight grip on the Pokemon's back. "The sword and shield should be located there, I'm going to-Oh right!" Mustard's eyes widened as he came to a sudden realization, he quickly fished through his pocket before producing a scroll which he promptly shoved into Ash's back.
"What was that?" Ash questioned.
Zach narrowed his eye as he had a feeling Mustard knew a lot more about what was happening than he initially let on.
"You'll soon find out," Mustard placed his arm atop Ash's shoulder and flashed him a smile before turning his back to them once more as he climbed back onto Corviknight.
"Wait a minute, why are you telling Sonia to go with us? Aren't you coming with us?" Zach questioned.
Mustard let out a laugh before flashing Zach a smile as he shook his head. "No, my destiny lies elsewhere. I must keep Eternatus busy long enough for the two of you to obtain the wolves, hopefully I can stall him from going Eternamax until the two of you get back."
"Good luck sensei,"
"We'll join you as soon as we can!" Ash exclaimed.
"Pika pi!"
"Carrr!"
"Ace!"
Mustard smiled at the two of them but didn't say anything as Corviknight took off into the air. The raven let out a loud caw as it flew towards the distant city of Hammerlocke.
"Knight!"
"Lati!" Corviknight and Latias soared through the Galar skyline while the occasional Dynamax hotspot formed beneath them, just narrowly missing them as they blasted through the sky while making their way to the Slumbering Weald.
Zach's gaze was fixated towards the ground as his thoughts kept drifting towards Dawn, May and Marnie. His thoughts unable to focus on anything else as he felt immense guilt for their capture. Porygon 2 sat atop Corviknight's head and gave his trainer a look while uttering out a worrisome coo.
"Pory?"
"N-No Porygon, we can't..." Zach frowned and continued gazing towards the ground before something caught his attention as the Pokemon wasn't exactly a common sight within the region. "Is that...? It is!" Zach could clearly see Klara running away from Slowbro as the Dynamaxed Pokemon chased after her, the chase had clearly been going on for some time as sweat ran down Klara's forehead and her legs looked ready to give out at any second!
Klara had been nothing but a bully to him since the day they met, constantly verbally abusing him and physically on some occasions as she knew he wouldn't hit her back. But he wasn't going to just leave her to her fate! "I'm sure we can spare a minute..." Zach picked up a Fast Ball while activating his Dynamax Band with his other hand, the ball began enlarging as a bright purple-red light surrounded it and upon hitting the ground below it burst open to reveal Obstagoon in a Dynamaxed state!
"OBSTAGOON!" Obstagoon roared out to get Slowbro's attention. The Galarian Slowbro turned around and let out a fierce cry of it's own as it temporarily halted it's pursuit of Klara.
"Max Darkness!"
"Obsta!" Obstagoon released a burst of dark energy from his body which flew towards Slowbro and into a large dome of energy which surrounded his before exploding!
"Slowbro!" The Dynamaxed Pokemon cried out in pain while the red and purple clouds surrounded his body once more as he began reverting back to his normal form.
Latias paused and turned around as she heard the impact of the attack as she was worried that Corviknight might have been hit.
Sonia smirked from behind Ash, she'd chose to ride with him as Lucario kept giving her funny looks when she tried to get on Corviknight. "Well what do you know, he saved that Klara girl."
"You think they'll be buddies now?" Ash asked.
Klara looked up at Zach as he returned Obstagoon to his Fast Ball. "...is that you up there, freakazoid?"
"Way to be grateful..." Zach muttered with narrowed eyes before patting the back of Corviknight's head. "Let's go, Corviknight!"
"Corvi!" Corviknight soared across the sky once more as he continued
Klara continued to look up as an apologetic expression formed across her face. 'He really saved me after all the things I said to him? The things I did?!' Klara felt a sense of guilt as she watched him fly away.
Ash, Zach and Sonia were wandering through the Slumbering Weald in search of the ancient sword and shield but the dense fog sure didn't do them any favors as they already had a hard time maneuvering through the woods at night on account of the moon being hidden behind the red-purple clouds. They had hoped that the wolves would greet them and show them the way but unfortunately that hadn't been the case as the wolves hadn't shown themselves.
"Dreee!" Ash, Zach, Sonia and their Pokemon all leaped into the air as the loud terrified shriek blasted across the forest. The sound of a Pokeball bursting open soon followed as Dreepy broke out of his Pokeball. The Dragon/Ghost stared off in the direction of the noise with his usual blank expression before suddenly rushing off without a word as he moved towards the shriek!
"Dreepy come back!"
"Pika pi!" Ash and Pikachu quickly chased after their teammate as Dreepy disappeared through the nearby bushes and upon emerging on the other side they'd learn what had cried out in terror as right in front of them laid another Dreepy, this one was critically injured and at the mercy of a strange grey colored Weezing that had massive towers of steam growing from the top of their many heads.
"Weezing!" The Pokemon cried out while slowly turning it's attention towards Ash's Dreepy with a fierce expression as if he were about to attack!
"That's a Weezing?! Quick tell me it's type!" Ash turned towards Zach as he came rushing through the bushes after them, Ash knew he didn't have time to look it up but he had a good feeling that Zach knew.
"Poison and Fairy!" Zach was quick to inform.
"Alright, Dreepy stand back! Pikachu use Thunderbolt!" Much he disliked denying the chance for his Pokemon to battle, if he truly was restricted to what he currently had on hand then he'd need to conserve Dreepy's strength!
"Pika...CHUUUU!" Pikachu's cheeks sparked with electricity shortly before he blasted Weezing with a powerful blast of electricity! Weezing cried out in pain as the electricity surged through his body, the smoke stopped emitting from his smoke stacks as he dropped towards the ground. Weezing's eyes turned to swirls and uttered out a pained groan as he laid in defeat.
"He wasn't Dynamaxed, that's odd. I thought it was just the Dynamax phenomenon making Pokemon go hostile!" Zach noted as he retrieved a Sitrus berry from his bag before dropping it in front of the injured Dreepy. Dreepy let out a cry of appreciation before happily eating the berry up as he restored his health! Ash's Dreepy let out a coo of delight as he was thankful that his fellow Dreepy was okay, the injured Dreepy smiled back at Ash's before the two spoke incomprehensibly as they moved closer to one another.
"Pika?" Pikachu curiously tilted his head as he watched the Dreepy.
"If I were to guess it's not just people freaking out over what's happening, it's making the wild life scared too as Pokemon are assaulting their own homes and friends without provocation. The Pokemon are probably paranoid that their friends or neighbors will go Dynamax next so they're blindly lashing out!" Sonia theorized.
"Dreep!" A bright blue light flashed out of the corner of their eyes as the two Dreepy came into contact with each other, the injured Dreepy appeared to be absorbed by Ash's as he disappeared while Ash's Dreepy grew taller until he stood at the height of Ash's upper chest while his light green scales shed away and replaced itself with a layer of light blue scales. Dreepy's upper half became more defined and less serpentine as he now had a chest and a small pair of arms while his eyes narrowed and became more serious looking. As the light began to fade, the injured Dreepy reappeared atop the newly evolved Pokemon's head safe and unharmed!
"Drakloak!" The newly evolved Pokemon cried out.
"Oh right, I forgot Dreepy needed to interact with another to do that." Zach sweated lightly.
Ash's face was full of excitement as he stared at his newly evolved Pokemon. "You look amazing, Drakloak!"
"Drak!"
"Drakloak the Caretaker Pokemon, without a Dreepy to place on its head and care for it gets so uneasy it'll try to substitute any Pokemon it finds for the missing Dreepy!"
Drakloak's attacks appeared to have changed during his evolution as his entry adjusted to showcase that he knew more powerful moves than he was capable of in his previous state!
"Drak!" Drakloak smiled up at his trainer while Zach gave the downed Weezing a sympathetic look before placing a Sitrus berry in front of it. The Weezing's eyes opened as he heard the berry hit the ground, the Pokemon gave it a look before looking up towards Zach who offered the Pokemon a warm smile.
"Go ahead and eat up, I'm not going to just up and leave you in that state! Just promise not to attack us okay?" Weezing had a look of gratitude as he gobbled up the berry before swiftly flying away.
"Huh, I didn't know Weezing could go that fast..." Zach commented before shrugging as Weezing disappeared into the night.
"It didn't want to join you? From what I heard it sounds like a lot of your Pokemon chose to go with you because you helped them!" Sonia exclaimed.
"Yeah well not everyone joined that way, I had to caught Scizor the old fashioned way." Zach laughed. "Besides not every Pokemon I've helped has gone with me."
Weezing peeked out from behind a tree and watched the group before giggling out from amusement while a blue glow surrounded his body as he began morphing back into his true form, the blue feline silently gazed at the group with a smirk before turning his head as a familiar howl was heard in the distance. Of course he faked the fall in order to make the act convincing.
"Aroooo!"
"The wolves!" Ash and Zach exclaimed simultaneously as they turned their heads towards the howl which incidentally happened to be behind where Mew was hiding. The feline let out a gasp and quickly camouflaged as Zach and Ash began racing towards him. The two boys, Sonia, Cinderace, Drakloak and Pikachu all raced past him without a care but Lucario paused as he sensed something with his aura, the jackal turned and silently stared at where Mew was hiding for a brief moment before chasing after his trainer.
The group soon came across a large open clearing and at first they thought that perhaps Zamazenta and Zacian had led them out of the woods again but the Slumbering Weald's fog remained to indicate that they were still within the forest. Ash and Zach quickly looked about the area before spotting an ancient altar that sat next to a river bed, an ancient sword and shield were stuck within a large slab of stone while the two wolves sat beside it with their gazes locked onto their respective partner.
Sonia didn't see the wolves so she was quick to point out the sword and shield that were set within the stone. "A sword in a stone, this must have been what that legend was based off of!"
"So if anyone else came across this place, they wouldn't be able to pull them out of the stone?" Ash questioned while Cinderace appeared to be thinking the same thing or perhaps she was just trying to be helpful as she grabbed hold of the shield and gave it a good pull but it wouldn't budge! Lucario latched his paw onto the shield and tugged but it wouldn't budge, answering Ash's question as the shield remained locked in place.
Zach walked forward and reached out for the shield, forming a light grip on it before giving it a gentle tug. The shield came loose and he nearly expected to fall over from a heavy weight but much to his surprise, the shield was light as a feather! Ash soon followed his example as he stepped forward and grabbed hold of the sword as Zacian watched him, Ash pulled the sword out and almost lifted it over his head as it too was surprisingly lighter than expected.
"Ash stop!" Zacian suddenly called out causing Ash to freeze up before the sword could go above his head.
"She didn't mean to shout but if you hold those up we'll become solid." Zamazenta explained.
"Isn't that a good thing though? We need your help!" Zach tilted his head as a questionable look formed across his and Ash's face. Sonia tilted her head as she watched the boys speak, unable to get a full grasp of what was going on.
"We know but you're hindered by the six Pokemon limit!" Zacian explained.
"You also won't be able to understand us anymore." Zamazenta added.
"My Pokemon are stored a mile or so to the south, I can go pick you up as soon as I catch you and get back to Hammerlocke in no time!" Zach tried reasoning with the wolf but the two shook their heads.
"Now that you carry the sword and shield you can call upon our spirits once you reach the top of the tower," Zacian explained.
"Our spirits are bonded to those objects and when you raise them above your head, we'll appear before you and regain our physical form allowing us to battle Eternatus!"
"What happened to Eternatus last time anyways?" Ash questioned.
"They just sealed him away." Zacian casually waved it off.
"What? They just sealed him away? Gave up on him?! They could have worked to fix the problem, maybe this isn't even Eternatus' fault!" Zach shouted, his fists clenched as his eyes narrowed.
"Well it was your ancestor that ordered it." Zamazenta informed with a flick of his tail. "The prince's word carried weight back then."
'Sonia was right?!' Zach's eyes widened from the revelation.
"Carrr?!"
"Ace!" Cinderace gasped out.
"Anyways enough talk," Zamazenta turned his gaze towards the north. "The two of you have a job to do, best get to it!"
"Right, it won't be long before Eternatus goes Eternamax!" Zacian informed before the two wolves gave their respective partners a bow.
"Good luck."
"We'll see you there!"
"Corviknight!"
"Latias!" The two threw the Pokeballs forward shortly before the two Pokemon burst out. The two Pokemon lowered themselves as they prepared to carry their trainers to the powerplant.
"Please be careful!" Sonia exclaimed with a pleading expression. Although the two had moved on Sonia still worried about him from time to time, they knew each other since they were children so of course they were still close just not in the romantic sort anymore.
Zach flashed Sonia a smile as he placed his hand upon her shoulder. "No need to worry Sonia, I'll be fine!"
"Hm?" Ash blinked as Zach used Dawn's catchphrase. Zach appeared to realize what he'd said as he suddenly looked towards the ground with a saddened expression. Ash shot a glance towards the north before turning his attention back towards Zach. "Let's go save the girls."
"Y-You sure? Mustard said-"
"I know what Mustard said but we can't have you being unfocused when we're going up against Eternatus, and possibly Rose and his assistant. Things could end up badly!"
"Pika!" Pikachu nodded in agreement while flashing his trainer a smirk.
"Besides I'm sure that Pikachu can afford to lose a bit of his strength, we'll use him to beat the kidnappers!"
Zach gave Ash an appreciative look as he threw forward the ball that contained Porygon 2. "Thanks Ash," It'd certainly be a load off his mind once he was assured that Dawn and the others were okay.
"Pory!" Porygon 2 landed on the back of Corviknight's head and stayed still as his trainer tied him up to prevent him from flying off. Porygon didn't have limbs so he wasn't able to hold on by himself.
"Alright Porygon, still got a lock on my phone?" Porygon was quick to nod in confirmation.
"Pory!"
"Alright then, lead the way!" Corviknight took off into the sky and adjusted his flight pattern whenever Porygon called out to him as the computerized Pokemon guided him towards where the girls were being held.
"Don't worry Marnie, help's on the way!" Ash exclaimed as Latias followed Corviknight up into the air!
"They're really going after the girls?" Zamazenta let out an annoyed huff. "Lancelot and the prince wouldn't have done this!"
"That's because they're not Lancelot and the prince!" Mew spoke out as he flew out of the shadows, the blue feline gazed up at the boys as they disappeared over the horizon. "I've been tailing them for quite some time and I believe that the two will find a way to end the Darkest Day for good!"
Marnie, May and Dawn were currently locked within a hi-tech cage, trapped inside one of Motostoke's many warehouses while Sordward and Shielbert could be seen talking to a nearby monitor with a woman's cold voice coming out of it.
"You've got them?"
"Yep, we've got Marnie and the other two girls!" Sordward exclaimed.
"Sending you proof now." Shielbert stated as he pressed a button on his Rotom Phone.
"Well done you two, your pay will be along as soon as we've dealt with the boys."
"And then we can go out, right my queen?!" Sordward questioned Oleana with an excitable expression.
Shielbert's eye twitched before he gave his brother a shove. "Why are you the one that gets to ask her out? I'm the one that made the introduction, I saw her first!"
Oleana rolled her eyes and scoffed before the screen went dark as she ended the call.
"Yeah but I love her!"
"So do I!"
"Geez, she's not going to hook up with either of you two goofballs!" Marnie rolled her eyes. "Everyone knows that she has a thing for Chairman Rose!"
"That's just a phase!" Sordward exclaimed.
"Yeah she hasn't met a real man yet!" Shielbert exclaimed.
"One that will love her,"
"And do anything for her!"
"Let me guess, she bribed you with pictures or something?" Marnie theorized.
"How did you-"
"Quiet brother, she might try to steal them!"
"Why would I-I have a boyfriend!" Marnie gave them a harsh glare.
"Uh that's not true," Sordward spoke up.
"Yeah according to our sources you haven't gotten with Ash yet," Shielbert laughed.
"But it's clear that you do love each other so we kidnapped ya, if he tries to fight Rose and Oleana then they say the magic word and boom! You're gone!" Sordward laughed maniacally.
"You're going to kill us?!" May exclaimed.
"We didn't do nothing to you!" Dawn shouted.
"Pip Piplup!"
"It's just business!" Sordward shrugged.
"Yeah, we'd do anything for our queen. Anything!" Shielbert smirked.
"Speaking of which, brother you should see the pictures she sent us!"
"Pictures?" Marnie raised her eyebrow before her eyes narrowed, sweat dropping as the two could be heard excitedly shouting out.
"FEET!" Marnie could see a brief glimpse of the monitor from where she was standing and saw that it was just a picture of Oleana's foot. No socks or shoes, nothing suggestive. Just her feet!
"What the...?" Marnie gave the two an odd look before glancing towards the warehouse door as it silently creaked open. The male Team Yell member poked his head in and his eyes widened upon seeing what was on the screen.
"Feet!" The female Team Yell member stepped in and slapped him across the face.
"Focus!" She hissed out.
"Jack, Harley! I never thought I'd be glad to see the two of you!" Marnie frantically motioned towards them as Sordward and Shielbert's eyes were locked onto the screen, drool currently poured from their mouths as their minds lost track of the world around them. "Get over here and open the door, hurry!"
"Hold up, you know their names?!" May exclaimed.
"I thought they were just your fans?" Dawn questioned as Marnie began to sweat.
"I-I gave them an autograph one!" Marnie's cheeks burned brightly as she lied.
May and Dawn narrowed their eyes as they could tell that she wasn't being honest with them but they weren't going to question it.
Jack excitedly raced towards the cage and pressed his hand up against the lock. "Hand sensor tech? It must open up once I touch it right?!"
"Jack no-" Harley exclaimed before an alarm blared off across the warehouse. Sordward and Shielbert turned around and glared at Jack who was quick to hide behind Harley, his body shook from fright. "Okay fine I guess we're doing this, Zigzagoon!"
"Zigzagoon!" A Galarian Zigzagoon burst out in front of Harley, it's tongue hung from it's mouth as it gave Sordward and Shieldbert a harsh glare.
Marnie facepalmed as Sordward sent out a Golisopod while Shielbert sent out a Sirfetch'd causing Harley to immediately hold up her hands in defeat as she recalled Zigzagoon to his Pokeball.
"Time to deal with you trespassers," Sordward spoke as a violent glint appeared in his eye. "Sirfetch'd Leaf Blade them!"
"Sir Fetch!" Sirfetch'd raced towards Team Yell as the tip of his sword glowed bright green, the bird swung back his sword as he prepared to slash at them!
"Psychic!" A male's voice could be heard.
"Voir!"
"F-Fetch!" Sirfetch'd frantically flailed his arms about as he was hoisted into the air before crying out once more as he was thrown at his teammate! "Fetch!"
"Pod!" Golisopod grunted out as he was pushed back by the attack while Sirfetch'd landed in a motionless heap in front of him, swirls filled the Fighting type's eyes as he groaned out in defeat.
"Fetch..."
"Ash?" Marnie questioned as she expected to see Ash but once Gardevoir came into view it became clear that it wasn't Ash as this one was the regular green color that most Gardevoir were! "Then who-? Bede?!" Marnie exclaimed in shock as Bede stepped through the door, hands in his pockets as he gave Sordward and Shielbert a harsh glare.
"Bede!" May and Dawn narrowed their eyes.
"Hey you're that kid who distracted the boys, good job!" Sordward congratulated Bede with a fake smile. "We'd never have done it without you!"
"You used me! Oleana said that nobody would get hurt and now I hear that you kidnapped my friend's girlfriend and plan to kill him?!" Bede's hand tightly gripped at a Pokeball. Although Bede had called the friendship off, he never truly stopped considering Zach a friend. He was the first one other than Rose to show him genuine kindness and friendship, Zach was like a brother to him much like how Bede viewed Rose as his father. He wasn't going to stand by and do nothing! "I'm not going to let that stand!"
Shielbert and Sordward shared a smirk as they gave each other a quick look.
"Then you'll die, Aegislash!" Both brothers tossed a Pokeball up into the air as two sword and shield shaped Pokemon appeared on the battlefield.
"Aegi!"
"Slash!"
"Aegislash!" The two cried out simultaneously.
"Steel Beam!" Blue-silver energy formed at the tip of the Aegislash's blades before firing off at Gardevoir, striking her body and knocking her back as she uttered out a pained grunt.
"First Impression!" Sordward called out as Golisopod joined in, showing just how unfair they were playing as the third Pokemon rushed forward and slashed Gardevoir across the face!
"G-Garde... voir..." Gardevoir collapsed to the floor as swirls formed within her eyes.
"Heh, now Aegislash use Night Slash!"
"Aegi!" The tip of Aegislash's blades glowed a sinister shade of purple as they flew towards Bede, preparing to slash at him as the boy frantically reached for another Pokeball. The Aegislash were faster though and quickly gained distance before they were mere inches away from him! Bede flinched and closed his eyes as they swung around, fully expecting to meet his end as his hand just reached his Pokeball!
"Flame Charge!"
"Ace ace!"
Dawn's eyes lit up as she recognized her boyfriend's voice. "Zach!"
"He's okay!" May exclaimed with a bright smile as Cinderace rushed into the warehouse, her body cloaked in a bright heavy flame as she threw herself against the Aegislash brothers, knocking them back!
"Pyro Ball!"
"Ace ace!" Cinderace rapidly changed her attack as she kicked up a pebble which erupted into flame as she kicked it about before giving it a hard kick as she sent it flying towards the collapsed Aegislash who remained on top of each other. The Aegislash looked up with fear in their eyes as the attack flew towards them before crying out as an explosion could be heard!
"Thunder Punch!"
"Carrr!" Lucario appeared behind Golisopod, electricity crackled through his fist as he lashed and struck Golisopod in the back! Golisopod gasped out for air as Lucario had landed a critical hit, his eyes went wide shortly before swirls formed within them as he collapsed face first against the ground right as it was revealed the two Aegislash had been defeated!
Bede opened his eyes as a light smirk formed across his face. Zach soon stepped into the warehouse and took his place beside Bede, he gave Dawn and the others a quick look and let out a sigh of relief as he saw that they were okay.
"Two against one isn't a fair fight, let's even those odds." Zach spoke while flashing Bede a light smirk. He was glad that Bede had seen the light and was back on the right side of things.
"Right brother," Bede tossed his Pokeball forward, releasing a rather beautiful white pony Pokemon with a long flowing mane and tail that consisted of a mixture of light purple and light blue hair! "Rapidash we need you!"
"Brother?" Zach gave Bede a questioning look as he wondered if he heard Bede right.
"You heard me, us orphans have to stick together right?" Bede smirked.
Zach smirked back as he quickly nodded. "Right!"
"Whoa that Pokemon's cool!" Ash's eyes lit up at the sight of Galarian Rapidash as he walked in before quickly shaking his head as his serious expression returned. His eyes quickly took sight of Marnie before he rushed over to try and get the girls out now that Zach and Bede had the kidnapper's attention!
"Ash wait this lock is hi-tech!" Marnie hissed out. "You're gonna have ta find some other way to get us out unless you can get one of them to press their hand against it!"
"Why don't we just use Zach's Porygon?" May pointed towards Porygon 2, the computerized Pokemon hovered behind his trainer as Cinderace and Lucario were doing the hard work as they had more energy on reserve than Porygon.
"Oh right, Porygon can enter tech! I've seen him enter Zach's phone before!" That was a surprise the first time she saw it happen as she walked into the Pokemon Center lobby and saw Porygon 2 fly straight out of Zach's Rotom Phone!
"Good idea, Porygon can you deal with this?" Ash shouted towards the computerized Pokemon. Porygon 2 took one look at the tech before letting out a gleeful cry as he raced towards it, the Pokemon disappeared as he flew into the device and within a few short moments a chime could be heard as the cell door opened up! Porygon 2 then remerged, the hi-tech device disappeared as Porygon's body changed drastically compared to his one. It was quite... something, Ash wasn't even sure how he'd describe Porygon 2's apparent evolution as it was just that bizarre looking!
"Thank you Porygon... what do we call you now?" Ash questioned.
"I don't think it matters, Zach always called him Porygon despite it's true name being Porygon 2." Dawn spoke up.
"That's because he wanted Porygon to feel more like a member of his family, he didn't feel right calling it 'two' as it felt as if Porygon was an object and not a Pokemon." May explained before stroking her chin as she turned to Porygon with a thoughtful expression. "Why not Porygon Z?" She suggested. He'd still refer to it as Porygon but the species did need an official name.
"Pory!" Porygon Z cheerfully cried out as he seemed to appreciate being named after his beloved trainer!
"Porygon?" Zach glanced towards Porygon Z and formed a bright smile upon seeing his new form. He simply gave Porygon Z a thumbs up before quickly turning his attention back towards the battlefield as Cinderace kicked a fiery ball towards Sordward's Bronzong, knocking the metal bell Pokemon back while Rapidash's horn glowed a bright pink color as she sent a pink crescent shaped energy blade flying towards Shielbert's Bisharp! Bisharp grunted out before shaking itself off as it delivered Rapidash a light glare.
"Bisharp use Steel Beam!"
"Bronzong use Heavy Slam!"
"Switch opponents?" Zach asked Bede.
Bede smirked before responding with a nod as he shouted out. "Drill Run!" Rapidash's body began rapidly spinning in place before she took off into the air, slamming up against Bronzong as he slammed towards the ground! Rapidash gritted her teeth as her horn pressed up against Bronzong's falling body, she summoned up all her strength before hoisting Bronzong up into the air, adjusting Bronzong's aim as he was sent careening towards his teammate who Cinderace knocked into the way utilizing another Flame Charge! Bisharp's eyes widened and a terrified shriek escaped his lips as Bronzong came crashing down on top of him! The two Steel types soon laid sprawled out across the ground, swirls filled their eyes as they groaned out.
"Run brother?"
"Right brother, we've lost this battle!" Sordward nodded in agreement as the two returned their Pokemon to their Pokeballs before making a hasty bolt towards the exit.
"I wouldn't do that if I were you," Zach smirked lightly shortly before the two were forcefully tossed back in by some unseen force!
"GOON!" Obstagoon snarled as it was revealed the Dark type was stationed outside in case the two tried to make an escape. Zach made the mistake of letting a defeated villain escape before and it winded up coming back to bite him, he wasn't going to make that mistake again.
"So uh... who can tie a knot?" Zach asked with a light drop of sweat.
"Allow me," Marnie picked up some nearby rope before making her way towards her kidnappers. "Payback time!" Marnie wrapped the rope around them before finishing it off with a very strong knot!
"W-What is this?!" Sordward gasped out as he struggled to break out but couldn't budge!
"Y-You can't just leave us like this!" Shielbert shouted. "We'll starve!"
"You won't starve, I already told Officer Jenny that you were here." Ash informed which is why he was slower at arriving than Zach had been. Zach didn't have his phone so that responsibility sat upon Ash this time. "She's busy with the Dynamax phenomenon but she'll get here when she can!"
"In the meantime ya can think about what you did!" Marnie smirked as the two villains scowled at the 'brats'.
"We've got a Pokemon to defeat now so we'll get going, see ya never!" Zach gave them a mocking wave before turning to make his exit. Bede quickly followed his friend out.
"Zach you have to understand that I had nothing to do with thi-"
"Save it Bede, I know. You don't have to apologize," Zach offered his friend a smile as he released Corviknight from his Pokeball once more. The shield could be seen tied to his bag while the sword was tied to Ash's own bag. "You already made it up to me by coming to rescue the girls, thank you... brother." The two fist bumped as they shared a smirk. Bede may have lost his father but he had regained his brother today!
Dawn removed Zach's jacket and handed it to him before planting a quick kiss upon Zach's lips. Zach took hold of his jacket and quickly handed Dawn her hat back before returning the kiss with one of his own. The two lovers didn't drag the moment on though as there was plenty of time for that later! "Thanks for coming to save me,"
"Well of course, I wasn't going to just leave you there! I love you!"
"I love you too, Zach." Dawn offered him a warm smile as she leaned her head up against his.
May stepped out and smiled at the two before speaking up. "Got room on Corviknight? I imagine Dawn and Marnie are going to fight the Chairman with you and I'm not going to sit this out!"
"I'm not sitting this out either," Bede spoke up.
"There's room for you on Latias, Bede." Ash offered as he knew Corviknight would be crowded but thankfully now that the girls had been rescued, Porygon Z was back within the confines of his Pokeball. Besides Ash figured this a good chance to get on friendly terms with Bede.
"Thanks Ash," Bede offered him a light smile as he made his way over to him.
"Well of course, ya ain't leaving me behind!" Marnie gave Ash's arm a light punch while flashing him an affectionate smirk. Ash's cheeks turned red as he smirked back at her.
"Well we're happy to have you!"
"Pi Pikachu!"
A massive spiral of red and purple clouds twisted and twirled violently above Hammerlocke's powerplant system. Corviknight and Latias tried to fly directly onto the roof to save time as Mustard's Urshifu was currently locked in battle with Eternatus. The Pokemon's body began glowing bright pink once more as he prepared to attack Urshifu, Urshifu swiftly dodged and the Dynamax cannon blasted towards Corviknight and Latias', clipping their wings and sending the Pokemon falling towards the ground below! The two Pokemon were quick thinkers and positioned themselves to take the blunt of the fall so the trainers wouldn't get hurt but unfortunately they didn't last the fall as swirls formed in their eyes shortly after impact.
Ash and Zach frowned as they thanked the two for their hard work that day and told them to rest up as they certainly deserved it, having flown them all around the region throughout the long hours of the night! Upon setting foot on the ground the group found themselves assaulted and surrounded by a mass army of Macro Cosmos workers who had enlarged Pokeballs and appeared ready to fight them!
"Ash, Zach get your butts inside now! We've got this!" Marnie shouted.
"But-" Zach spoke with an anxious tone while Ash appeared to share his concern as there appeared to be over a hundred men and women under Chairman Rose and Oleana's pay.
"We'll be fine!" May offered them a reassuring smile.
"No need to worry!" Dawn smiled.
"We've got this!" Bede flashed a smirk.
"There's too many of them, you all can't do this alone!" Zach exclaimed.
"Who says they're alone?" A feminine voice called out as several of the workers were hoisted into the air by a telekinetic force!
"We're here!" Another feminine voice shouted as a large wave of water came crashing down upon another group of workers who screamed out as they were carried away by the water's current.
"Time to sleep!" A masculine voice sang out as blue powder was dropped onto another group causing them to fall fast asleep!
"Burn baby burn!" A feminine voice excitedly laughed out as a group and their Pokemon were attacked by a set of Flamethrower attacks!
"Calm yourself granddaughter." An older man's voice chuckled out while the workers raced off screaming as their clothes began to burn!
"Sizzly Slide!"
"Eevoi!" Eevee raced through a group of workers and their Pokemon as her body was engulfed in a fiery inferno!
"Boo!" Allister phased through the ground causing some of the male Macro Cosmos members to scream like girls as they ran screaming into the night! Bede let out a laugh before the two made eye contact, the two stared at one another for a moment before looking away from each other as a blush began to form across Bede's cheeks.
"Oh wow, it looks like everyone's here!" Marnie remarked as she saw all of their Galar friends arriving to help them out, even Jack and Harley came racing onto the scene as sweat ran down their foreheads.
"W-We're here..."
"Don't forget us!"
"H-How did everyone know to come here?" Ash questioned with an awed expression.
"It was Klara, she told us to come here!" Chloe explained as she gestured towards the Poison specialist.
Klara's face turned red as she shyly looked towards the ground. "Y-Yeah well I figured I owed freakazoid-er Zach for saving my life. I heard about your plan and wanted to pay you back by helping ya out."
Zach gave Klara a look before giving her a nod of acknowledgement. The two certainly weren't enemies anymore but it was likely they'd never become friends. "Thank you Klara, thank you everyone."
"Don't mention it buddy!" Milo waved.
"I'm always happy to help ya out!" Nessa waved at her friend.
"My offer still stands by the way!" Kabu jokingly laughed out causing Flannery to elbow him in the ribs.
"Grandpa!"
Allister merely offered a shy silent wave while Chloe offered him a bright smile.
"You can do it!"
Marnie didn't see Piers so she figured he was likely busy protecting Spikemuth much like how Raihan was as his Duraludon could be seen off in the distance, Hammerlocke had gotten it the worst due to it's close proximity so it was likely that he wouldn't be joining them for the time being.
Zach smiled at all their friends before turning to face Ash. "Are you ready? Rose and Oleana are probably right on the other side, we might not get a breather for awhile."
"I'm always ready, let's do this!" The two shared a smirk before pushing the doors to the powerplant open.
"ETERNA!" Eternatus' body started glowing bright red-purple as the Dynamax clouds spiraled around his body. Mustard's eyes widened as this was the scene that haunted his nightmares for all these years ever since his old friend informed him of what was to come!
