AN: Hey, I'm finally back with a new chapter for this story, and no you're not dreaming :), which more on that will be down at the bottom. I hope you enjoy the chapter, and it was worth the long wait. Warning: A few questionable words.
Chapter 7: Anymore surprises?
Another week later
Grissom and Sara were in the waiting area at the local clinic where Sabrina works when she wasn't working at the hospital, when a nurse asked for a Mrs. Grissom, so they both get up from their seats and followed the nurse to one of the empty rooms.
After what felt like forever, Sabrina walked in with a smile on her face as she greeted them, then after checking on Sara, it was time to check on the baby, which would be the first time they should hear a heartbeat.
As Sabrina was listening for the baby's heartbeat, she gets a carious look on her face and said. "Hmmm."
Sara and Grissom looked at Sabrina before Sara asked in worry. "Is everything ok?"
She didn't answer for a second or two while Grissom slipped his hand into Sara's to give them both comfort, then another moment passed before Sabrina started to smile as she finally spoke. "I hope you're ready for another surprise."
Sara cleared her throat before she asked. "I would ask if it's good, but it must be with your smile."
"Most parents would think it's good." Before either one could ask, Sabrina continued. "You may not hear it at first but take a look."
Sabrina turned the ultrasound machine towards them so they could see the screen before the heartbeat was heard, or should they say heartbeats, causing Sara and Grissom to gasp while seeing the screen in front of them, then Grissom asked with emotion. "Twins?"
Sabrina nodded with a bigger smile and pointed at the screen. "Here is baby number 1 and baby number 2." She then looked at the shocked, emotional looking parents, and officially congratulated them. "Congratulations, mommy and daddy, you are having twins." While the parents were still in their shocked state, Sabrina printed out a few pictures before she handed them to Sara and spoke with another smile. "I'll give you two a few minutes, it looks like you need it."
They just nodded while their eyes remained on the picture in Sara's hand.
Once Sabrina was out of the room, Sara sniffled. "Twins, Griss. I can't believe this."
Feeling even more emotional than he has been the last two months, he kissed her temple before whispering. "I know, but it's amazing, isn't it?"
She started to nod with a smile before turning her head so she could look at her husband, seeing the love in his eyes while he was looking at the photo then at her. "It is, it really is."
She may be a little freaked out now that there were two, but there was no doubt there was more love flowing through her than when she thought she was only having one.
They moved towards one another and kissed softly before she turned her head to look at the photo again, and he did the same after kissing her temple again, both couldn't get enough of looking at their babies, which sent their hearts fluttering even more, thinking of them now having two.
Once Sabrina walked back into the room, she finished up the exam and talked to Sara before the happy couple left the room, set up their next appointment before walking out of the clinic and headed for the vehicle with a little spring in their steps.
After leaving the clinic in their rented vehicle, Grissom drove them to a close deli to get a few egg sandwiches before taking them to the park, and while they enjoyed their meal and listened to the kids laughing from the playground, Sara sighed. "So much for getting back into the swing of things at the lab."
Now that there were two babies and with the combination of Sara's age, Sabrina thought it would be a good idea to be put on light duty out of caution, not that there wasn't caution before, but Sara thought she could do a little bit out in the field before today's news.
Grissom moved his hand across the table and spoke with comfort/understanding. "I know you're a little disappointed on that, but least she didn't put you on bed rest."
Sara squeezed her husband's hand with a chuckle and nod. "That's true. I probably wouldn't know what to do if that had happened." Grissom chuckled with a nod, then Sara sighed again while placing her other hand on her stomach. "But nothing is more important to me than the safety and health of our babies, so there is nothing I won't do for them, even if it means no field duty."
Grissom took a calming breath and he whispered with emotion. "Babies, Sara, two of them."
Sara nodded with tears in her eyes. "I know." She sniffled, then chuckled a moment later while shaking her head. "It figures, when we make something, we get more than one."
Grissom chuckles again before getting a shy look on his face, causing her to chuckle a little more as he moved his hand from hers so they could continue with their meal.
When they were done, they changed their seating from the table to a bench so they could see the kids playing, and after a few minutes of silence between them, Grissom spoke. "You going to tell Nick right now?"
She nodded. "I'm going to have to explain why I shouldn't be out in the field."
"Alright, and we should find a time to take that trip up to LA."
They couldn't find the time the last time they were here.
Sara nodded again, then she turned her head from the play structure to look at her husband, and Grissom, feeling her eyes on him, turned his head and looked at her with a smile and a raised eyebrow. "What?"
She smiled and cupped his cheek before leaning forward and giving him a soft kiss on the lips.
Once she pulled back, he asked with another smile. "What was that for?"
She sighed in content while moving her head so it was laying on his shoulder. "Just because and that I love you."
He kissed the top of her head and whispered. "I love you too."
She slipped her hand into his and brought them to her stomach while their attention went back to the play area, envisioning their children playing here, when of course they weren't in their own backyard.
A few hours later they made it back to Nick's, and soon after, Nick made it home, but he was only going to stay long enough to take a shower and change for his date with Sabrina.
But before he did all of that, Sara asked Nick to sit down on the couch, which he did while seeing emotionless looks on their faces, trying to keep as calm for as long as they could, however it got Nick very concerned almost instantly. "What's wrong? You had a checkup today, right? Is it the..."
Sara cuts him off. "Everything is fine." She took a breath and started to smile while Grissom handed him the ultrasound picture. "I'm fine, and so are the twins."
Nick's eyebrows shot up in surprise as he asked softly. "Twins, as in two of them?"
Sara smirked. "That's usually what that means."
He finally looked at the picture before taking a deep breath. "Wow, twins." He then looked at her again. "How are you taking it?"
Sara smiled brightly, taking her husband's hand while replying. "A little freaked out at first, but now that we've had time to let it sink in, we couldn't be more excited about this." Nick nodded with a smile before Sara continued after clearing her throat. "And because of this new development, it was strongly advised from my doctor that I be put on light duty, so I hope..."
Nick cuts her off with a smile. "Of course, I wouldn't have it any other way."
Sara sighed with a nod, a little part of her feeling bad she couldn't do her full job, the one she was hired to do. "Thanks Nick, I don't want to feel like I'm getting special treatment, especially when I'm just starting out here, but..."
Once again Nick cuts her off before Grissom could speak. "Hey, not only was it advised from your doctor, but I probably would have insisted on it too." He then gets up from the couch, places his hand on her shoulder while he continued. "This is about the health of you and the babies, and that's what matters right now, so whatever you have to do to ensure that you three will be ok, do it, you have nothing to prove to anyone here."
Grissom smiled while agreeing with Nick. "He's right, honey, and while your new team may not know you, those who do, know what an exceptional CSI you are."
As she saw Nick's nod with a bright smile, Sara smirked. "This coming from the two most biased people when it comes to me."
Nick then smirked. "Probably, but it doesn't make it any less true, your record speaks for itself, and I'll gladly bring it up if anybody has a problem." Sara just nodded before Nick continued one more time. "So, don't worry about anything but taking care of yourself and those babies. I've been waiting for this for a long time now."
Sara could see the excitement in her long-time friend's eyes. "I see, you just can't wait to be called 'Uncle Nick'."
Nick chuckled as he brings her in his arms, replying softly. "It's on top of my life's wish list."
Sure, he was already an 'Uncle Nick' from his sibling's kids, but this one felt different, it was Sara and Grissom's babies for goodness sake, the two people, before they became a couple, who had thought themselves that they wouldn't ever have kids, or even thought about having them.
Sara wrapped her arms around him with a happy sigh. "Then I'm glad I can cross it off your list."
He chuckles again as they pull back, then after handing the picture back to her and asked if there was anything else that needed to be discussed, which she said no, he excused himself from the room so he could get ready for his date with his girlfriend.
When Sara and Grissom were alone, Sara headed towards the couch, and after sitting down, she looked at her husband with a smile. "You know what I can't wait to cross of my life's wish list? Or at least it was on my list the day we found out we were having a baby."
He walked towards the couch and sat down next to her, asking softly. "What?"
She looked at him with emotion in her eyes. "Hearing our child, now I guess I should amend it to children, call you 'daddy'."
Grissom took a breath, his heart fluttering at the thought of that before cupping her cheek and wiping her tears away, whispering. "And I can't wait to hear them call you 'mommy'."
Sara's heart fluttered as well, she still couldn't believe life had taken her to this moment, when just two years ago she thought she was going to continue the rest of her life alone, well not fully alone, she knew she would've had her friends, but not with the only man she ever wanted/loved.
She mentally shook her head, wanting to concentrate on the here and now, their future, which looked brighter than ever before.
When they arrived at Sabrina's condo after they had dinner out, Nick headed towards the window to look out towards the ocean while Sabrina was pouring them some wine, and once she was done, she walked into the living room then towards him and asked while she handed out his glass of wine to him. "What are you thinking about?"
Nick turned around with a smile on his face while taking the glass from her. "Sara's surprising news."
Sabrina smiled. "You should have seen their faces when I told them they were having twins, they were very shocked, but when it changed to love, it looked like they just won the jackpot times two."
"I saw it too." Sabrina smiled again, and before she could speak, he continued. "And in thinking about that, it is leading me to think about my own future, and what I really want, what I've always wanted. "
Sabrina looked at Nick a little nervous while she was taking a sip of her wine, which as she swallowed it felt like it went down her throat as if she swallowed something hard before she asked softly. "Am I part of that future?"
Nick cupped her cheek with a smile and bright eyes. "There is no one else I want to spend my future with." He in turn gets a little nervous. "And have kids with."
Sabrina gives him a reassuring smile as she cupped his cheek. "That's the something you've always wanted, huh?"
He nodded, finally able to admit this. "A part of me had always dreamed of it one day, I just couldn't find the right woman that wanted to stick around long enough, and just when I thought about giving up that dream." He took a breath before finishing with emotion. "You came into my life, and that dream started to come back full force, especial the last few months."
After letting that information sink in, she asked before taking another sip of her wine. "So, when did you know it was me you wanted to have kids with?"
No hesitation. "The first time we met."
She nearly spit her wine out before looking at him in surprise while shaking her head. "No way."
He chuckled while she headed towards her couch. "Why is that hard to believe?"
She took a breath before replying, sitting down on her couch. "Because I don't get that lucky, I mean look at you, you were a jock in school, and I was the science/math nerd watching the cheerleaders get the jocks."
Nick smirked as he walked towards the couch. "Uh, did you forget I was also a science nerd? I mean look at my academic background."
She chuckled. "No, I didn't forget that, but you were one of the ones that made it look cool, me on the other hand..."
He cuts her off with love in his eyes as he sits down. "Is beautiful, and I can't believe I'm the lucky one." She shyly smiled while he cupped her cheek as he finished. "Because remember you are eleven years younger than me, you can have a younger man, hell any man you want..."
She cuts him off while placing her hand on top of his and looking at him with love. "But I don't want a younger or any other man out there. I've waited my whole life for a man like you, and I'm not about to give you up without a fight." She then runs her thumb up and down her cheek as she whispered. "So, in other words, I want a future and kids with you too."
Nick's heart started to race as he asked. "Really? Kids?"
"Yes, however if you don't mind, I would like to wait another year or two before kids come along, but the other thing is whenever you're ready."
"No, I don't mind, the kids part can wait a little longer if that's what you really want." Then he asked with another smirk. "And is this your way of proposing?"
She chuckled while shaking her head. "Hey, I may be a modern woman, but I still want the man to propose, if you can deal with that?"
He smiled bright as he leaned forward. "I have no problem with that whatsoever."
Their lips touched a second later, then getting passionate not long after before moving to her bedroom, both happy they were able to be honest about what they wanted for their future, and that they really wanted it to be together.
With them still waiting for their new house to close so they could move in, Grissom and Sara were still at Nick's place, and while he was out of the house, Grissom made them a nice romantic dinner, and once they ate and the dishes/kitchen was cleaned up, they headed towards the living room and sat down on the couch, cuddled up to one another as he ran his hand up and down her arm.
They sighed in content, and after about ten more minutes of silence, he whispered. "Today was a good day."
She smiled. "One of the best days of my life."
He raised an eyebrow at that. "One of, huh? So, you have more?"
She still had a smile on her face. "There might be a few more out there, and you want to know the great thing about them?" He just 'hummed' against her temple before she spoke again. "Almost all of my best days have you involved in them."
He smiled against her temple and asked. "Really? And what are some of your best days that revolve around me?"
She smirked. "You know that is a long list, it could take me days, probably weeks to list them all."
He chuckled before replying. "Ok then, just give me your top five."
Knowing it would take a few minutes, he waited patiently while she thought long and hard about her list, and there was so many to choose from, and really, she could say everyday she spends with him were her favorite days, but she choose the ones that really changed her life for the better, so she cleared her throat before finally replying. "We'll number 5 I would have to say is the day that started it all, the day we met."
"A classic response."
"True, but it's the truth, and it not only was one of my best days, but it also changed my life forever."
She could feel his chest rise and fall with a deep breath, so knowing him almost as well as he knew himself, she spoke before he could. "Don't go there Griss, this is a happy list/moment, let's keep it that way." He just nodded with a smile, and after she took a breath, she continued with her list. "Number 4 would have to be when we became official."
He smiled lightly as he replied softly while wrapping his arm a little tighter around her. "That was a good night, for more than one reason."
The night Nick was kidnapped and rescued, Grissom came to her apartment and told her exactly how he felt about her, holding nothing back from her.
She moved her body so she could look at him, and with tears in her eyes, she spoke with emotion. "You were more honest and open than you had ever been before."
He cleared his throat before replying with emotion. "And so scared, especially for your response, you could have easily told me to get out."
She smirked with her brown eyes sparkling. "I think I relieved your fears pretty quickly."
He took a breath, almost sounding like a relieved one while cupping her cheek. "You kissed me with no hesitation, pouring everything you've ever felt for me but had kept hidden all those years."
She smiled with tears in her eyes again. "Well, that moment was a two-way street, it wasn't like you were holding back anything yourself."
He ran his thumb up and down her cheek as he whispered again. "I couldn't anymore. Hell, I didn't want to anymore."
She smiled as she leaned up so they could share a sweet kiss, and after pulling back, she whispered. "And that brings me to number 3 on my list, the first time you told me you loved me."
He smiled with his blue eyes sparkling. "Which was the next morning."
It could have been easy for them to take things further that night, but all they did was sleep together, and that next morning, as they were laying in each other's arms, he told her he loved her, which while it had been implied the night before, they both knew they needed to hear the actual words.
She smirked again. "Still, it was a new day, so it counts in my book."
He nodded with a chuckle. "You got it dear."
She does a short nod with a smile, then after getting comfortable against his side again, he whispered against her temple again.
"Your number 2?"
No hesitation, she replied with a smile. "Our wedding day." Before he could ask, she continued. "And before you ask, both of them, which might be cheating a little, but I don't care, and it's my list." He just nodded with another smile while she spoke again. "The first time, I never wanted to be married more than I did that day, and the second one I knew this time is going to be forever, because we've learned from what we did wrong the first time around."
"And now we are stronger than ever before."
She nodded in agreement as she took his hand and placed it on her stomach so the palm of his hand was on it. "I would say my honorable mention is our reunions, the one in Costa Rica and on the docks here."
He smiled before asking while running his thumb up and down on her stomach. "And your number 1 is?"
She smiled, thinking of her number one as she said it. "Our first time being intimate. I never felt more safer or loved than I had that magical night, and while I knew before that moment that I never wanted to be with another man again, it only solidified it even more for me, no matter what we would go through together." She moved her body again so she could look into his eyes, both of them seeing tears as she finished. "And after all these years and everything we've been through, I still feel that way. I love you with everything in me and there is no one else I rather have as the father of my children."
Overcome with so much emotion from her words and the look in her eyes, Grissom couldn't speak with words, so he did the next best thing, he kissed her with passion, and after pulling back, leaving both of them breathless, he stood up and held out his hand. She smiled while taking it before he helped her up, and once she was, they headed towards their temporary bedroom, ready to celebrate the wonderful news that they received earlier that day.
AN: Thanks for reading, and please review.
AN#2: So, I'm going to be completely honest here for a minute, most of you that have read some of my newer stories in the last few months, knew I had lost my father five months ago, and to say it had been very hard for me is an understatement. And while I did/do had/have every intention of finishing, the inspiration for this story took a very big hit. But on the brighter side of things, now that I am starting to settle into a new life, the inspiration is slowly coming back, so please bear with me while I figure everything out.
AN#3: I also want to thank you for your patience and understanding, I know as a reader myself, waiting for a story to be updated can get frustrating, especially when it's a long wait as this was, so I hope you good people out there are still waiting, and wanting me to continue. Which brings up a question I have, do you want more Nick/Sabrina moments, like this chapter had, (When GSR isn't in the same room/scene that is) or do you just want comments about them? Let me know, enjoy the rest of your weekend and all stay safe out there.
