Chapter 3: Rosie's Departure

When Rosie sped down the stairs, everyone stopped talking and wondered if the noise they were hearing was the end of the world. After they had recovered from their stupor, John opened the living room door. Immediately, Sherlock climbed the stairs four by four to arrive in front of Rosie's room, which was locked by her. Sherlock tried to open it, but when he couldn't, he called his goddaughter (whom he considered his daughter), who obviously didn't answer him. He even tried to break down the door but couldn't. So, Sherlock, still dressed as Santa Claus, in a fit of fright and distress, blew the lock open with his pistol.

Downstairs, after changing like everyone else, John anxiously awaited news of all he had left of his late wife. As anxious as the others, he heard Sherlock pleading with Rosamund to open the door for him, then a gunshot. When Sherlock came down ten minutes later, telling them he had found nothing, he felt horribly betrayed, feeling guilty, afraid of losing Rosamund to Mary. In desperation, he took his head in his hands. He heard the voices of Sherlock, Greg and Molly in the distance but quickly regained his composure when he suddenly felt a hand land on his shoulder. It was Mycroft who offered to try to find Rosie through his cameras placed all over London. He accepted because it was his only chance.
