Day 29- Ezrabine: Summer Cruise AU

Sabine enjoyed summer vacation; she really did. And the cruises that her family took each year really weren't that bad either. But there was always the other family always on the cruise each year and the son always, always, hit on her. And she did not look forward to that.

She groaned as she saw the dark haired kid walking towards her. She was tempted to stay lying on the chair, pretending she hadn't the noticed him, and she could go on sunbathing in peace. But, she was raised better than that, and she did know him. So, reluctantly, she sat up and lifted up her sun glasses.

"Hey, Ezra," she called out as he waved at her.

Ezra stopped a couple feet away from where she was sitting. "Hi, Sabine! Long time, no see!"

"Been a year, like always," Sabine sighed, squinting somewhat to get a better look at the kid.

As she examined him she suddenly realized that he had grown. While all previous years he had been shorter than her, were she to stand up her he'd at least be her height. He also, had been working out? Sabine was tempted make a comment on that, but held it back.

"I see you finally gave up on the long, scraggly hair," she noted, going for something a little safer.

"Yeah," Ezra laughed, running his hair along the much cleaner and shorter cut. "My folks and I both got tired of it. And I see you've dyed your hair. Again. It looks good! And is it a little longer?"

Sabine ran her fingers through the white and purple hair. "Thanks! And, yeah, it is longer. Though I have been considering cutting it really short. Like a pixie cut."

Ezra looked at her for a moment, imagining how that might look. "I'm sure you'd look good," he finally said, nodding his head.

Sabine smiled and shook her head. "Thanks. And for the record, I think your hair looks good like that too."

Ezra smiled. "Thanks!"

Sabine realized what she'd just said. Had she actually just complimented him?

"So, how about school?" Sabine asked, quickly changing the subject. "How's that been?"

"Same as ever," Ezra shrugged, leaning on the side of the boat. "Going strong with an average of Bs all around. Could put in more effort, but I'm doing better than some other people, so there's that. What about you?"

"Top of my class, all As, without too much effort," Sabine said flipping her hair. "Same as ever."

"Well, that's good," Ezra said. "It would probably be somewhat alarming if that were to drop."

Sabine stood up and joined him standing at the rail. "Yeah, definitely. My parents would definitely worry. Though, to be fair, my mom's gonna be alarmed when I tell her I just want to do art, but I'm not worrying about that quite yet."

"Still haven't told her?" Ezra asked. "You've been holding out for a while."

Sabine chuckled, then sighed. "Yeah, well, it happens. At least I know my dad won't be mad. It's the one thing that keeps me going."

"Always good to have someone supporting you," Ezra nodded.

"Yeah," Sabine sighed looking out to the horizon for a moment.

"You know what?" Sabine said looking over at Ezra. "You've grown up, a lot."

"Really?" Ezra said meeting her gaze. "That's good to hear."

"I'm sure it is," Sabine laughed. "And you know what else? I think I'll finally take you up on that date offer."

Ezra stared at her in shock. "Seriously? For real?" Sabine nodded.

Ezra pumped his fists. "Sweet! Do you mind driving?"

Sabine shook her head and laughed. "That'll be fine."
