"Ash, look over there!" Cassie exclaimed, seeing an overturned vehicle on the side of the road.
They had recently left Fuschia City, heading back on track towards the next gym in Saffron City. They had barely left the city when they came across this vehicle.
"What do you think, could it be Team Rocket's doing?" Cassie asked.
"No way to know for sure, but we should make sure whoever was in it is okay." Ash said, making his way over to the car.
"Garoof!" A large bark was heard.
"Ash, I think I found what did this." Cassie said, looking to see an angry Arcanine.
"Pikachu use Quick Attack!" Ash commanded.
Pikachu charged forward, launching into Arcanine's head, pushing the fire type back. The Arcanine then countered with a jet stream of fire.
"Pikachu dodge it and use Thunderbolt!"
Pikachu laid flat to the ground as the flames shot over his head, before building up electricity and shooting out a bolt of energy at the Arcanine.
That attack was enough to scare off the Arcanine sending it running off into the woods.
"Time to find whoever was in this car." Ash said, rushing over to the vehicle. "Hello is anyone out here?!"
"Pika!" Pikachu added in.
"Ash! Over here!" Cassie said seeing a pair of legs sticking out of a bush.
"Ow my head, and people say I'm bad at driving." A rotund man said, sitting up. He had on a Hawaiian shirt, and sunglasses.
"Are you okay?" Ash asked running up.
"I'm good. Did you happen to see what hit me." The man said.
"It was a wild Arcanine, but don't worry, we scared it off." Ash said. "I'm Ash by the way."
"Well hello Ash, I'm Scott, so you and Pikachu managed to take out an Arcanine that easily? How many league victories do you have?" Scott asked.
"I've got five badges so far." Ash said proudly.
"This kid has badges, but managed to beat an Arcanine unscathed." Scott thought to himself.
"Umm, your car might need some work though." Ash added.
"My car!" Scott exclaimed, seeing it turned over.
"Look if we all work together we can flip the car." Ash said, grabbing his Pokeballs.
"Well, it can't hurt to try." Scott said.
"Alright everyone come out!" Ash said.
Gloom, Jigglypuff, Ponyta, and Dratini popped out of their Pokeballs a bit confused as to what was going on.
"Okay everyone let's flip this car back upright." Ash said.
After a bit of work they had managed to flip the car back right up.
"Even a shiny Dratini, this kid is something special, I need to see him in action." Scott whispered. "Hey Ash, where are you all heading?"
"We're headed to Saffron City." Ash said.
"Well I have business in that direction, how about I give you a lift to my stop as thanks." Scott offered.
"That would be great." Ash said, putting his bag in the back part.
A bit later
"Lucy, open up, it's me." Scott said, knocking on a door.
"Scott, you're late." A woman said opening the door.
"I had car troubles, but right now I need your help, I have a kid with potential." Scott said.
"Him? What's he got? Trophies, money, legendaries?" Lucy asked.
"A shiny Dratini, and an unscathed win against an Arcanine." Scott said. "I want to see how he holds up in a battle."
"And you chose me?" Lucy commented. "Wouldn't Spenser be better, or Noland, even Tucker is a better choice than me."
"Use one of your back room Pokemon." Scott said. "I know you have a collection, just see how he does."
"Umm, Scott, can you open the trunk?" Ash asked from the car.
"Ash, come over here real quick." Scott said. "I'd like you to meet Lucy, a friend of mine, I'd like to see you battle her."
"Uhh, sure." Ash said. "So what kind of battle will this be?"
"Use as many as you'd like." Lucy said, walking into the building.
"She's confident." Cassie whispered.
"Or maybe I'm in way over my head." Ash responded.
At the battle arena
"Alright Ash, let's see what you've got." Scott said.
"Come on out Gloom!"
"Snorlax let's go."
"Gloom use Mega Drain!"
"Snorlax use Double Edge."
The Snorlax charged forward at incredible speed, slamming into Gloom, and launching it into a wall.
"Gloom!" Ash exclaimed. "I'm way in over my head." Ash said, seeing his Pokemon having been instantly knocked out. "But I'm not backing down yet. Jigglypuff I choose you!"
"Snorlax use Double Edge."
"Jigglypuff use Sing!"
A sweet lullaby filled the arena as Snorlax began teetering in place before falling to the ground asleep.
"Now use Disable!"
A shudder ran up Jigglypuff and then ripples flowed down Snorlax, the large beast still fast asleep.
"Use Pound!"
Jigglypuff waddled forward, slapping the sleeping Snorlax to no avail.
"Lax…". The Snorlax yawned before rolling over, and onto Jigglypuff!
"Jigglypuff!" Ash exclaimed.
"Snorlax, please get off of her." Lucy said.
"Laaaax." Snorlax yawned flipping over again showing a flattened Jigglypuff and a destroyed microphone.
"Oh Jigglypuff won't be happy about this." Ash said, holding the destroyed remains.
"Ash, just stop, you aren't proving anything." Cassie pled.
"I won't stop as long as my Pokémon are willing to fight." Ash said. "Ponyta let's go!"
Ponyta charged into the battlefield, galloping towards Snorlax.
"Snorlax use Harden."
"Ponyta use Stomp!"
Still half asleep the Snorlax's body seemed to compress as Ponyta charged over it.
"Lax?" The Snorlax yawned finally waking up.
"Snorlax use Hyper Beam!"
"Ponyta use Agility!"
Ponyta began to pick up speed trying to avoid the beam of light shooting after her.
"Ponyta use Agility again!"
"Snorlax use Double Edge!"
Snorlax turned, and belly flopped Ponyta, sending the fire type flying into the same wall Gloom had been launched into.
"Ponyta return. Come on out Dratini!"
"Even faced with insurmountable odds, he still keeps going, incredible." Scott said in shock.
"Dratini use Leer!"
"Snorlax use Rest!"
The Snorlax fell back asleep, as Dratini bounced up and down happily.
"His Dratini on the other hand needs some work." Scott admitted.
"Snorlax wake up and use Giga Impact!"
Snorlax woke up on command, slamming into Dratini, the dragon's body going limp from the impact.
"Dratini return." Ash said. "Alright Pikachu, you've got this."
"Pika!" Pikachu said in agreement.
"Pikachu use Thunderbolt!"
"Snorlax use Double Edge!"
Snorlax charged forward only for Onix to run between its legs, sending off a bolt of electricity at the normal types back.
"Pikachu use Quick Attack!"
"Snorlax use Hyper Beam!"
While Pikachu was just as fast as Ponyta, he had far more endurance, circling around the Snorlax making it dazed and confused.
"Pikachu use Thunder!"
"Snorlax use Giga Impact, for real!"
Snorlax's eyes opened wide, an angry look on his face as he slammed into Pikachu.
"Ash, that was a great battle." Scott said.
"But I barely hit the Snorlax." Ash admitted.
"We'd be more surprised if you did." Scott admitted. "Lucy here is part of a project of mine, a group of trainers stronger than even any gym leader, the Battle Frontier."
"Wait so you're like a super experienced trainer?!" Ash exclaimed.
"Careful kid, I have the only healing station for miles." Lucy warned.
"What, no, I was wondering if you knew what these are." Ash said holding up the training machines.
"I never thought I'd see any of those again." Lucy said in shock.
"So you know what they are?" Ash asked.
"Not exactly, I know how they work though." Lucy said.
"I think I've got an old guide on how to find out exactly what those discs have." Scott said. "If Lucy doesn't mind us using her area."
"To see what those are, I'll allow it." Lucy said.

With the battle frontier from the anime taking place in Kanto, it would make sense that Scott would still be building it at this time.
