Chapter Fourteen
Parker was waiting at the village entrance, trying to stay as calm as he could as he waited for news to come back to him. His mother had sent one of her mates after him requesting that he stay in the city for at least a day's rest while they waited for his father to show up. He hadn't wanted to but she was his mother and he knew if he wanted his father's help he would do whatever his mother asked of him. That didn't mean he had to like it. He did not like waiting. He also knew this was the only way, he was not fully fit enough to go out and try to fight the feral on his own.
Gold eyes flashed over to see some of the men coming back, "What happened? Did you find her?" He ran over to them, his emotions on high as he took them in.
One came forward and shook his head, "We found this. But they got away. The feral dove into the water with both of them and escaped. We couldn't scent them after that."
Another came forward, "The other girl, left behind a scale so Muir could be healed. He was hurt fighting the feral...but we haven't scented either of them after that."
Parker took what was handed to him, cold fury coursing through him as he saw the necklace in his hand. The leather cord had been snapped, but that necklace had been his...the one that had been around Kagome's neck.
"We probably should wait for the leopard king to get here before trying again..." One of them said. Parker did not like this at all. It had been seven days now. Seven days without Kagome at his side. Since he was able to see her smiling face and smell her scent.
Giving a low grown he retired the cord and put it around his neck as his narrowed eyes went to the two before him, " I am going after her. When you hear from my father you can tell him where I went." He then transformed and left the two behind him, both yelling for him to come back. But he wouldn't stop.
He had to find Kagome first.
X-x-x
It had been days since they had encountered the other beasts, and Kagome was not happy. Why wasn't she happy? There were multiple reasons why. First, because of the stupid feral, the necklace she got from Parker was ripped off her. She had a feeling it would be picked up, but still...she wanted it back. It was comforting to have and now she didn't have it.
Second, Bai...she was not happy at all with her and how she was acting. She had seen the touches and the kisses the two had exchanged. Even if Bai fought him at first, she didn't seem to be doing it very much anymore. She slept wrapped around the snake for fucks sacks.
Kagome wanted to hit the girl. She saw how she smiled and laughed with Curtis now and Kagome couldn't have felt more alone now. Kagome was sitting on the river edge, as Bai washed some rice, right next to her a smile on her face. Kagome didn't say anything but her head snapped up when she felt someone coming near and something coming towards them.
"Watch out!" Kagome yelled to Bai who was who it was being aimed at. The next thing she knew both Bai and herself were both covered in what seemed to be...an egg yolk? Kagome looked to her feet and saw a good portion of the shell of the egg on the ground.
"What in the world," Kagome muttered as she looked at Bai who had the same look on her face as she looked at her body in disgust from being covered in the substance.
Before either of them could say anything they were forced face-first into the river, Kagome felt her throat burn from the water and let her power flare up and could feel the hand be taken off her as she gasped for air. Bai was also gasping for air right next to her, tears in her eyes as she tried to move away from Curtis.
"What was that for?" Kagome croaked out, eyes looking at the snake who was looking at the sky before his head turned as if hearing something.
"That was a Colossal egg...a Colossal King most likely at that." He hissed, his eyes in slits, and his tongue forked as he glared up at the black bird in the sky. Kagome didn't know what they were, but from the sounds of it it didn't sound good.
Bai shivered as the faint remnants of the warm yolk of the egg clung to her despite the cold water they had been dunked in, tears in her eyes. "What does that mean?" Her voice held a bit of a whine to it that reminded Kagome of Shippo and Rin right before they threw a tantrum, the fear far outshined by her whiny tone.
Kagome didn't know much about this world but what she did know was that breeding was the sole purpose of its inhabitants and it was a luxury afforded only to the strong. So for an egg, a life, to be ended...there was no doubt going to be at least one very upset female and her whole damn harem of males out for blood.
And here Bai and she sat still covered in the remains...
"We have to go, now." Curtis's blood-red gaze snapped to the black haired female, her own blue eyes looking much like stormy blue skies. She was pretty but not as pretty as his Bai, in fact, the only reason she was still breathing was because it pleased Bai. Yet the time for humoring his female was over, this was life and death and he would be damned if he put his female in danger for anyone.
"Indeed." With that cold singular word he scooped his female into his arms, ignoring her startled yelp, "Good luck." With those parting words, he was gone. Bai shouted, pounding on his back as he tossed her over his shoulder, willing his body to move as quickly as it could. Hoping the colloalsas would take the bait that was known as Kagome.
Curtis hissed, his hand giving Bai's waist a harsh pinch, making her yelp mid-scream. "Snow, you must be quiet or they'll find us." His voice was a low hiss as his body slithered through the forest, his senses on high alert, he could feel the killing intent all around them.
Hear the angry roars, feel the very ground shake under their righteous fury.
How and why a colossal egg had fallen from the sky out of nowhere he had no idea. What he did know was that his female was covered in the scent and he had to get her to safety, even if it meant damning her friend thus incurring her wrath.
He would rather she be mad at him, hate him, than for her to draw her last breath. He would do anything, kill anyone to keep her safe.
Bai could only bite her lip to try and stifle her sobs, Kagome! They had left her behind on her own! There was no way she could survive this, weird 'miko' powers or not! They had to go back, Kagome could have left her at any time, Curtis had even voiced this, preferring that they be left alone. Yet Kagome had refused to leave her behind and had allowed herself to be dragged around like a sack of potatoes...
"We have to go back, please Curtis, I'll do anything!" Her words were whispered, her hands clenched in his silky locks, tugging lightly. "Please." She was begging.
Curtis allowed his eyes to slide shut for a mere second, feeling her tears hit his back like acid. Burning and stinging where they made contact with his naked flesh.
He hated her tears and would do anything to make them stop.
Anything but put her life in danger.
"It's probably too late. We need to keep moving." His voice was monotone, the words spoken to offer her comfort, not an inkling of actual care about Kagome's well being in him.
Bai whimpered, one hand moving to grasp at the necklace around her neck. Oh! Oh! Tugging on the necklace she lifted it to try and show it to him, the leather cord stretching under the pressure. "If she's alive she can find us with this! She can use her spiritual powers to trace this!"
Curtis paused, her words running through his head, spiritual powers? It was said that those from the ape clan were capable of using such things, though one had to be very powerful to do so... He recalled the shock he had felt when he had shoved her head under the water, he had dismissed it as a trick of his mind...but if she did possess these powers...
That meant that if she did survive she could track them down and try to take Bai back...no he would not allow that. Reaching up he grasped the leather cord and yanked, the cord snapping under the strength of his tug. Ignoring Bai's yelp he tossed it behind them and once again began moving.
He had to keep moving.
He had to get Bai to safety no matter what, she was his female and no one would take her away, not the leopard prince, not Kagome, and not the collosals.
No one.
