CHAPTER 4

Yang had found the time to spray paint her prosthetics a shade of metallic golden yellow and chrome. Was it a little flashy? Yes, yes it was, but considering what she'd be riding around in… Halcyone honked the musical horn of the recently completed 69 "General" muscle car. Yang rolled her eyes with a smile. The two had planned to go out and find Ruby, wherever she was in Anima, and Halcyone offered to be their driver. They wouldn't be able to cross Anima in one day, which sort of swayed Yang out of taking Bumblebee for the trip. The General was a lot more spacious, and more to the point comfortable to ride in. "Come on, we've been planning this trip for weeks." Halcyone said, leaning her head out of the welded shut doors.

Yes, Halcyone had turned the vehicle into a racing and stunt car. Patch held more than a few derbies in the summer, and she'd used a less complete (less safe) version of the vehicle to rack up money to both finish the car, drop an expensive select fire control group into Road Rage, and fund their trip. To be fair, the General looked phenomenal. Bright orange, a ram in front of the grill, roll cage, the big blocky octagonal 01 printed on either door, ten spoke turbine tires, the whole nine yards. Nevermind the looks, Yang knew enough about cars to say the cosmetics and structural add-ons were nothing compared to the 426 hemi V8 with nitrous, and the manual transmission Halcyone dropped into it. It was straight piped too. Yang shuttered when she heard it for the first time.

Grabbing her duffle bag, Yang tossed it in the trunk with all of Halcyone's assorted shit, and jumped through the open passenger side window. The two girls shared a fist bump, before Halcyone hit the ignition, and the compact disc player started playing 'Higanbanna Queen.' Still giddy about the state of their ride, Halcyone and Yang whooped and hollered, as they peeled out of the driveway, and down the road to Patch's port.

Later that night, aboard a ferry that would take them to western Anima, Halcyone and Yang sat cuddled up in the backseat of the General, a wool blanket over them, and the radio quietly playing whatever tunes could be picked up. Halcyone smiled down at her sleeping girlfriend. Their course had been set, and their plan to find their sister and friends put into motion. It was a long time coming, but Halcyone had decided, when they found Ruby, when they got their answers, when the people responsible for Beacon's fall were put behind bars or six feet below, she was going to marry this beautiful woman...

In the swamps of western Anima, the frogs were croaking in the mid morning mist, and the sun glared down. There was a dirt road that split between two rice patty farms and a deep wood, and still as the morning was, an orange bolt of lightning ripped up a cloud of dirt, passing everything in sight. There was a black pick up truck chasing after it, sirens blowing and red lights flashing.

The Two Hot Blonds might have incidentally trespassed onto private property unknowingly, and the police that came out to mitigate the situation were less than friendly. The one officer drew a shotgun from their truck, and Yang's vision went blurry. The sound of the gun racking a slug into the chamber, the officer's height, his vibrant red hair, he reminded her of Adam. For the first time since they left Patch, Yang experienced a panic attack. She immediately froze up, and with a rapid cadence, told Halcyone to "Drive, drive, drive, drive!"

Halcyone tore the General through a turn, and then righted the vehicle as they made their pursuers eat dust. "Yang, I trust you on this, but you are going to get us shot one day." Halcyone said, as the long haired blond grabbed the hand hold.

"Not with you driving… Why are they still chasing us? We left the property like we said we would!" Yang asked, as Halcyone swerved around a pothole.

"To be fair we did run... That and Anima law enforcement's all corrupt. We got dust, they wanted it, we drove off in a hurry." Halcyone said, referring to the trunk full of ammo and assorted shit.

"And that's worth a car chase?" Yang questioned, finally getting her own racing heart under control.

"Pfft, Hell no, but I'm giving them one anyways." Halcyone chuckled.

"My hero." Yang said, putting on gold rimmed red tinted aviators, as Halcyone shifted into top gear on the straight away.

"Ah they ain't catching us. The General's thunder on the highway. Piston pumping', steel belted cavalry. He'll never let us down." Halcyone said, drifting left into a dried out field. "Buckle up and I'll show you what I mean." Halcyone said, as the pickup followed them into the old field. Yang saw what was in front of them and immediately strapped herself in.

"Halc you're nuts." Yang said, as Halcyone opened up the nitrous oxide to gain speed, heading right for a huge pile of dirt on the edge of a pond.

"I've always wanted to do this unironically." Halcyone said. Yang screamed the second the tires hit the natural ramp, and Halcyone shouted out as she laid on the musical horn, the car jumping clear over a pond. "YEEEEE HAA!" The general hit the dirt on the other side of the water, and spun out into a drift, before Halcyone took off towards the next nearest dirt road to head off over the mountains. Meanwhile the two cops in the pickup undershot the body of water and ended up sinking their vehicle right to the bottom.

Two days later, Halcyone sat outside a JustRite dust station, fueling the General, jamming out to what was on the radio of the General while she waited for Yang to restock their water in the minimart. The two had come a long way since they left Patch, they'd faced some would-be pirates, and ran from local law enforcement for trespassing, but it wasn't anything they couldn't handle. "Not backin' down! Never backin' down! Ca-can you feel it?!" Halcyone had swapped out her clothing somewhere along the way, her signature jacket remained, but her new pants and field shirt were a splotched green, brown, and tan leftover from Vale's republican border guard days.

Halcyone was suddenly disturbed from her mini concert, as someone slammed into the hood of the General. She spun on her heels, and looked at the scraggly man, who's face was pressed into the car. Looking up at Yang, who had a case of water with her, Halcyone just frowned. "You punched him into the car." Halcyone said.

"Is that any worse than you jumping it over a pond?" Yang asked.

"It's designed to do that." Halcyone pointed out.

"Who is this guy anyways?" She asked, as Yang put the water in the trunk.

"He's the guy that's going to take us to my mom." Yang said, as she walked around to the hood, and grabbed the bandit by the collar of his shirt. "Ain't that right? Unless you want my mechanical foot up your ass?" Yang said, wiggling her metal toes against the pavement, as she dipped the red tinted aviators down so the bandit could see her eyes.

Of all the possible upsides Yang found when it came to being a cyborg, not needing to wear shoes was probably her favorite. Each individual toe was free to feel the dirt or grass beneath them, but she'd never have to worry about the pain of stepping on a rock or broken glass, built in inhibitors preventing it from registering. Scroll calls and connection to the CCT network when in range being linked to her head was still something she was adjusting to, but it was kinda cool… Having to WD40 her joints when it rained, not so cool.

Yang and Halcyone drove Shay Man, as they found out his name was, all the way out to a remote spot in the woods. He crawled out of the General's passenger window, after the other two got out. He walked off to "check if the coast is clear." Yang looked at Halcyone and pocketed her aviators. "You know this is a trap right?" Halcyone asked, before she took a sip of water.

"Do I look as inbred and stupid as the rest of my mom's tribe?" Yang asked her girlfriend. Halcyone raised her finger as she was about to ask if the Branwens were actually into keeping it in the family, before Yang swiftly shut her up. "That was rhetorical. I know this is a trap, but he was probably dumb enough to take us right to my mom's camp, which if the smoke cloud over there is of any note, should be right up the way, so regardless this works for us." Yang said. Halcyone pulled Road Rage out of the General.

"Is your mom's tribe really inbred?" Halcyone asked, the question still lingering. Yang winced, for she knew a part of the reason Qrow drank so much. "Sorta… Uncle Qrow told me his parents were cousins, so there's that." Yang said, rubbing the back of her head.

The two blonds heard a gun click behind them, and Halcyone spun to aim her weapon at them, as Yang slowly turned. "Speaking of inbred, look who's back." Yang said with a frown. "Oh and he brought his kissing siblings." She said, now smirking as 6 others came out of the woods with him. The two blonds ignored what the dick had to say, and just negotiated who got to beat up who.

"I'm taking the sheilas, that one on the right, and then the goof tooth." Halcyone said.

"Think you can handle four of them?" Yang asked with a grin, though her left arm tensed up against her will.

"Wouldn't be the first time I've had to." Halcyone said with a sigh, as she changed her weapon and it's machete configuration.

"Whoa now, you're saying we could have brought more people into the bedroom all this time, and you didn't tell me?" Yang asked. Halcyone cackled at her girlfriend's comment, before they got serious again.

"Let's kick their ass, and then we can discuss the number of bitches I get." Halcyone said.

Yang shrugged, as pointed studs popped out of her knuckles, and an interior shotgun rose from her right forearm as Ember Celica on her left deployed. "Suit yourself."

30 seconds. It was hardly a fight. Yang initiated with a flying spin kick that knocked out more of Shay's teeth, and Halcyone ran in, blade raised like a mad woman, hacking and chopping, and kicking at anything that moved. By the time they were finished, every single one of the bandit's was knocked out. Halcyone didn't trust them to be left alone with the car, which was why she took the bundle of handcuffs and half inch chains out of the trunk, and locked them to the vehicle's axle, before going to meet Yang's mom.

Author's note.

It was a little bit of a throw away joke, but the Branwen tribe being one giant inbred family was just to good of a dark thought for me to not toy with, but then came the issue of how that would actually affect Yang, and I just rolled with one of her sets of grandparents being related, and resenting the shit out of her moms side of the family more because of it. As for the swiftness of travel... Well Yang and and Halc are rolling around in a muscle car. Don't worry there are more chapters to V4 Part three, even though we are nearing V5.

If you were attentive, Halcyone's new and finished car, is a General Lee replica, minus the flag on the roof... Well maybe not for much longer.

Yang showed off one of her new enhancements if you caught it. Knuckle studs for focusing impact onto smaller surface areas. That, and we see her have a little freak out that leads to a car chase. And yes I wrote this right when all the cyberpunk hype was on, hence Halcyone singing along to some Samurai.
