Chapter 2

"Don't worry." The girl is comforting another little person. A boy with dirty-blond hair and dark blue eyes.

They looked about 13 years of age.

"I hate him." The boy declared as the girl was fixing his wounds.

"Let him gloat. On this day, if the gods are willful, he will die from battle or wounds." The girl is indifferent towards the boy's word hate.

The boy nodded and said, "Yes. You'll stay with me forever, right?"

"As we promised." She cut her hand and cut the boy's hand, which he grunted. Pressing their bleeding hand together sealing an eternal bond.

"Together forever." They pressed their forehead as they repeated it. "Together forever. Together forever."

Flash was burning bright, ending the memory.

Alfreda snapped her eyes open. It was another dream.

This time she looked and dressed as she came from medieval or dark periods. The cut reminded her hand that it was her birthmark, or rather scar-like.

She had it since she was born.

Looking at her hand, it was the same one from her dream.

'What does that mean together forever?'

Slowly getting up as she saw it was only 4:00 a.m. There was no use in going back to sleep as she took her pills prescribed by the doctors.

There are Antidepressants, Sertraline (Zoloft), Paroxetine (Paxil), Fluoxetine (Prozac), and Venlafaxine (Effexor).

She is scared because the doctors and nurses gave her so many pills that she is worried they may go back to sleep.

The doctors gave her choices of which pills to take or not want to take.

So, she sticks to Antidepressant ones.

Taking one pill to swallow and drink from her cup with sink water.

Gulp! One big drink made her cringe in pain, and knowing the effects made her sleep more.

Alfreda slowly walked downstairs and turned on the tv to see any shows going on. Her cat, Janie, purred and followed her owner downstairs.

There was a tv show like cartoon network of courage the cowardly dog episodes. This was her routine since the death of her parents.

Dreams that seemed genuine.

Waking up early or sometime middle of the night.

Watch tv or hear her music by earphones until she sleeps soon.

That is how her uncle Charlie found her on the couch asleep as the tv is on a different channel of the news.

Charlie sighs and decides to turn off the tv and place a native blanket on her as she sleeps on the couch.

He notices a small present on the table: To Bella from Alfreda. It was a small box that was a tie in a pretty bow.

He will have to give it to his daughter since Alfreda was friendly enough to provide Bella with a present.

Charlie nodded as he allowed her to sleep.

It was September which meant that it was Bella's eighteenth birthday and while Charlie and Renee picked out presents, which were a scrapbook and a pink Canon camera,

Alfreda's present is a beautiful gold bracelet. Nothing too fancy or looked snooty, and it is a change like one with a pendent-shaped heart.

Bella is woken up from that dream that made her a mirror of an old lady, and Edward is still young.

She doesn't know what to think, but she seems shaken up about it.

Charlie handed Bella her other gift from her mom and said, "This one is from your mom. We coordinated, and well, she coordinated me."

Bella opened her mother's gift, a yellow and black scrapbook.

"It's to put pictures in from your senior year," Charlie said. He shrugged and sighed, placing his hands on his hips. "Senior year. How did you get so old so fast?" He teased.

Bella said, "I didn't. It's not that old."

"Well, I don't know," Charlie said. He moved closer and pointed to her hair. "Is that grey hair?" Bella jumped from her full-size bed to her floor-length mirror and kept protesting. Charlie smiled at Bella and shook his head as he laughed. He made a surrender pose and backed away to the door when Bella turned around and gave him a small smile. "Happy birthday." He said and left quickly.

When Bella came downstairs, Alfreda was awake or still sluggish from taking those pills.

"Hey, happy birthday." Alfreda looked at Bella and softly said.

"Thanks." Bella didn't know what to say, but she shouldn't judge her cousin since they both probably had a scary dream.

"Your gift is on this table."

Bella saw a small pink box with a golden ribbon. She gasped as there was a beautiful bracelet.

"Thank you." Bella quickly put it and left to her beat-up pickup truck.

Alfreda lodges around, keep the clothes and keeps the house clean. You know she keeps herself distracted to avoid going out or taking her pills out of fear of her dreams.

She heard a car pulling over, and Bella walked back as Edward sped up his driving with a loud vroom.

"Bella," She greeted her cousin but noticed she looked traumatized from something. Alfreda looked at her bandaged arm and said, "Bella, are you okay?"

"Yeah. Yeah, I am um…tired. The Cullen's. Edwards' family decided to throw a party for me." Bella ranked her hair.

It was going great until one cut from her finger accidentally caused a papercut. Jasper went animalism and remembered it was the same face as James was when he wanted to hunt and eat her.

Bella just realized how different the Cullen's were to her.

She was still human, and they were vampires.

"What happened to your hand?" Bella's cousin seemed and looked cautious about her arm. No doubt, she thought that it had something to do with Edward.

"Oh, this." Bella tugged her jacket to lower it. "I danced a lot and tripped myself on the table."

Alfreda does not look like she believed it.

After all, Charlie told her about this incident involving Bella landing in the hospital that caused her bleeding and a broken leg.

"You dance a lot?" Gave her cousin a skeptical look. In all her life, she recalls that the only time she danced was their ballet lesson in public, and that was it.

"Are you sure this had nothing to do with Edward?"

"Look, I am fatigued. I just want to go to bed. Early if you don't mind." Bella seems on edge.

Alfreda sighed and nodded.

That was probably the last time they spoke over the arm thing since she will wait and see if Bella is ready to talk about what happened.

Bella went with Edward for a drive ten hours ago the following day.

Alfreda called Charlie that Bella hadn't been home all day. Her uncle gathered people to look for Bella and asked her to wait if she came home. Alfreda knew that she was meant to stay for Bella to go home.

Yet she kept thinking that something was telling her to get Bella from that forest.

"She is in the forest."

There is the kind voice that had the accent and husky male.

"Go."

Alfreda is not sure that it was her PTSD talking to her, but calmly putting her native American blanket to carry in one arm and wearing her warmer jacket.

Opening the door but stood there as she realized that she had never left her house since she first moved in with her uncle.

'C'mon! You can do this!'

She was about to put her foot out but cringed as she pulled it back.

'No! I can't. I can't do this!' She whines to herself. 'But Bella needs us. And for all we know, she could be hurt.'

'Uncle will find her.'

'But she could die if they don't find her soon!'

Alfreda lightly squealed and jumped out with the door loudly slam!

BANG!

Her eyes closed and slowly opened them as she actually couldn't believe that she was outside.

She let out a breath and pulled out a flashlight.

She ran out of the pouch and went to the forest. 'Which way? Which way would Bella take if I was in her positions?'

In front of her is two road pathways that usually hikers would take or off course road that was considered dangerous if they take the directions. She paced as she was about to take a left one but changed her mind to the right one.

Then repeated those motions.

She moaned a bit as she felt that one mistake could be longer and worse if Bella were not found.

"Take the off course. Look, the wolf will lead you to Bella."

"Wolf?" Alfreda looked and saw a Washington ordinary gray wolf who looked and started to walk the off course but paused and turned its head to see if she would follow him.

"Okay. Take my chance?" Alfreda started following the wolf. Yeah, she will see if her instinct works.

The gray wolf kept walking and leading her through the trees that made it wet and slippery, but she held on to stay safe.

"C'mon, Bella. Tell me that I am not wrong."

She saw a lumping figure lying on the floor. The gray wolf was there, howling for her to hear.

AWHOOOOL!

She flashed her light and saw a person who was mumbling.

"Bella." Alfreda is horrified. Just what did Edward do to Bella?!

"Bella!" She ran and looked at her cousin. Checking her pulse and feeling the touch of her skin. My god, she is cold as death but alive.

Placing the blanket keeps Bella warm until she finds a way to call her help. Not noticed that the grey wolf is still there and watches her with such intrigued eyes at Alfreda.

Wrapping up her cousin and tried to see if her cell phone could signal to call. It has one bar left so, she makes it count.

Pressing the number under Uncle Charlie.

"What…is…. Alfre-?" It sounded hard to hear from him, but hopefully, he could listen to her.

"Uncle, I found Bella! We are off course paths! Uncle! Off course paths!" She slightly pulled her phone away from her ear as there were many statics and hearing problems from the other line.

The line has shown disconnected.

Alfreda slumped as there were no more bars left to connect now.

Focusing on keeping her cousin warm and praying that someone could come and find them soon.

"Hello?!" Alfreda shouted out for anyone to hear her. The woods got quiet as she got worried.

My god, what if it was an animal or, worse, some person that could be a killer.

She prays for a miracle.

"Hello!" A man yelled through the woods. Alfreda smiled and sniffed in relief.

"Here! We are here!"

A masculine Native American man with a shaved haircut and shirtless. Sam Uley was the name she recalled when Billy Black talked to her uncle on the phone about having a young watchman or securities for their community.

He came to them and said, "Are you two alright?"

"Yes, but Bella, my cousin, she needs help," Alfreda told Sam. He notices that she was trying to keep her cousin warm with a native blanket that made him pause.

"Okay, I got her." He quickly lifted Bella in his arms. "Follow me."

She did but remembered something.

"Did you see a grey wolf?"

Sam turned his head, surprised at her words.

"Grey wolf?"

"You know, Washington grey wolf around this size." She didn't know that Sam sighed in relief at her descriptions.

After all, it was an ordinary wolf and not one of his own.

"It led me to Bella. That is how I found her." Alfreda continues the story.

"I haven't seen one, but it could be the spirit in disguise from one of our stories," Sam told her, which made her, shall we say, lack of belief.

She noticed that they were walking towards where her uncle and the rest of the search parties were.

After a few silent beats with Charlie looking at the map with Harry Clearwater at Jacob's side and holding Billy's hand with a tight grip, Jacob looked behind him, seeing shadowed figures carrying something. As the figure got closer, the light from the side of the house shined on the figure, and it was Sam Uley holding a conscious Bella and Alfreda being at his side.

"Bella!" Jacob said.

The chief looked up to see Sam with Bella in his arms and Alfreda.

He sighed in relief and jogged over to them. Charlie could take Bella inside when Charlie started to carry in Bella.

Charlie nodded his thanks to Sam which he gladly returned his nod.

"Alfreda," Charlie said. "For once, I am glad you disobeyed me to find Bella."

He wasn't expecting his niece to leave the safety of his house to go and find Bella. He was glad that she ignored her fears to find Bella.

Sam felt bad for Bella, seeing how distraught she was when Cullen broke up. Billy told them they were leaving Forks, but he didn't know how long. He agreed that it was better for everyone to get away from the leeches.

Sam's eyes traveled towards Jacob, who was glaring at the Alpha. The older wolf smirked at him and ran back to La Push. Jacob shook his head and took his dad back home. Thinking of several ways to keep Sam away from him.

Alfreda kept her earphones on before bed for the past five days.

Bella was having nightmares. She kept walking up the two Swan residences. They try to calm her down, but it never lasts long. Charlie would be the first to wake up and calm her down. Then ten minutes later, Alfreda's turn came as she wasn't getting any sleep either for her dreams and Bella's nightmares.

Alfreda has been singing strange songs and lullabies that she had never heard or sung at all.

That afternoon, Bella was at work in her zombie-like state, and Charlie had to stay home because Sky hadn't been getting any sleep due to staying up with Bella at night.

Charlie was sitting in his favorite recliner watching some afternoon cartoon special. Alfreda decided to make a quilt that could distract herself, and Charlie admits she was getting good at this.

He didn't think that she had any talent. Janie, the cat, was sleeping all day as the poor thing had to suffer Bella's screams too.

Though the strange symbols on the quilt made him comfortable, it looked like pagan symbols, but she told him runes and Viking cultures.

Alfreda explains to him that they are charms from Norse myths to protect the nightmares' encouragement spells and add the last one as a joke to prevent herself from wanting to push Bella off the bed in the middle of the night.

Charlie scoffs his laugh.

He sighed and rubbed his eyes. Bella needed to get out of her depression from her breakup and fast.

"Uncle," Alfreda called him. Charlie looked back to his niece. "Maybe I could take Bella with me to shopping or movies, and I am getting confident of seeing the town."

It was true. Charlie had thought ever since she took her first step outside to find Bella and talk to Sam. Alfreda has even been through grocery stores and take-outs for Charlie and Bella lately.

"I think that's a good idea."

It wasn't.

But Alfreda has been trying to get Bella out of the house for days that turn to three months. Maybe she was like her.

She needs to accept it on her terms slowly.

Alfreda kept noticing the grey wolf that led her to Bella looked familiar. She never mentioned it to others except for Sam.

But felt oddly familiar and never afraid.
