A/N: Okay, so not only do I feel a little bit bad about forgetting to post and ending up posting late, but I also kind of want to get more into writing again so... here's your update a week early.
Bella's Point of View
"Ahh!" I screamed sitting straight up in bed. Catching my breath after realizing I wasn't in any danger. Well… not immediately, not more than normal for the last almost two days. After orientation with the head, which I now know to be named Evelyn, I was left to my own devices in the room and told I would meet the other's tomorrow.
Currently, there was quite a loud alarm ringing. It would seem I had fallen asleep before the others came in; surprising, because I was certain I wasn't going to fall asleep at all.
Either way, I had no way of going back to bed, and I didn't want to figure out what happened if I didn't follow the rules of the building.
Rule Number 1: Never go back to sleep after hearing the bell
I looked up to the time on my alarm clock to find it was six o'clock. Way too early to be up in my opinion. Sighing, I got out of my surprisingly semi-comfortable bed. I had been quickly briefed about the time table, so I knew I only had about ten minutes before we would be taken to the canteen to eat something sustaining.
Rule Number 2: Always wear the uniform
Looking at the foot of the bed where Evelyn told me it would be, I opened the chest. It actually wasn't for personal belongings, unless you count a standardized uniform, toothbrush, and other toiletries personal belongings. As far as I knew, I would never see the pair of jeans I had on originally again, not that that was of the utmost importance, I just wanted something that was going through exactly what I was.
I went into my changing room and took off the nightclothes I was given, putting them in a nice, neat pile before putting on the uniform; if you could call it that, it was, in essence, a hospital gown with a few minor tweaks to make it more comfortable and appropriate for common wear. I noticed quite quickly that it matched the nude, cream, and chrome colors of the room I was staying in.
"Everyone, can I have your attention?" A woman standing at the door asked, "It's time to go down to the canteen. Follow me." She said.
Rule Number 6: always do as you're told by the staff wearing the green scrubs.
The woman was wearing the green scrubs, so I got up off my bed once more to follow the other laddies in my room. We all followed the woman almost in a line, across the hallway, down the stairs, and a right later, the woman stopped at the canteen. When she opened the room there was a cacophonous assault of my senses; people were talking, loudly, and the delicious scent of food hit my nose.
"Go, eat your breakfast, you have thirty minutes."
She didn't need to tell me twice, my stomach was rumbling from the smell of food. So, I grabbed a tray and entered the line, there was more than my group of people here. About eighty of us in total if my sense of counting was any good.
From the lunch line, I grabbed milk, eggs, pancakes, sausage, and some bacon.
Rule Number 3: Always take at least one meat item from the line
Rule number three made sense, I thought as I sat down at a random table. We would have to keep our iron up somehow. Though, I wondered about the lack of elaboration for surgery foods. If we didn't have enough sugar in our veins to keep us going, then we would faint should blood be pulled.
"Hello! Earth to Room four!" Huh? How did- oh, we all had different colored hospital gowns, my room's uniform seemed to be white, while the others at my table seemed to be an assortment of greens, reds, and yellows.
"Hi," I said weekly, looking at the person who voiced the greeting. He was a brunette, like me except he had green eyes and his face shape wasn't like mine. He looked kinda cute. "Your new right?" I nodded without speaking, "Word of advice, Never talk to the floaters, ever." I frowned, "Floaters?" He bobbed his head, "Yeah, the ones who get fed on every day in preparation for 'the big test'." Saying 'the big test' in air quotes.
"You mean the test that's taken at the end of the training?" He nodded, "Thanks for the advice." I said, before digging in on my food. The table I sat at didn't talk to me for the remainder of the meal, but I couldn't stop thinking why I shouldn't talk to the 'floaters'.
Rule Number 17: Always sit down for bloodletting when your name is called
Gulping, I sat down on the chair which I have been avoiding eye contact with since I entered the room. The person sitting on a chair to it's left was a man who I very well hoped was a medical professional. I closed my eyes and looked away, "Afraid of blood I see?" The man asked as I heard the snap of latex gloves being put on hands. I nodded. "I'll try to make it quick and painless then." The amount of time each name had been called was around twenty seconds each after I would hear the snapping of latex gloves, so I began my countdown.
20, 19, 18, 17, 16, 15… 3, 2, 1
"And you're all done." Everything seemed a bit hazy, though it didn't seem from blood, more of loss of blood. I felt a bit faint as I staggered a bit to the other end of the room, waiting for the others to be finished.
