Kinoshita Kazuya, 2nd year student had a huge crush on his rental girlfriend, Ichinose Chizuru.
Their first meeting was after a heartbreak from his ex girlfriend, Mami. A time where at the lowest point of his self esteem made him fall for the targeted advertisement that promised endless happiness.
He didn't know whether that was the right choice but one thing he was certain about, he was glad he met her.
Kazuya was optimistic despite being below average in almost everything that life threw at him. But he didn't let that stop him from running after his dreams. A grave mistake.
XOctober 25X
It had been almost a year since his 'arrangement' with Chizuru began on that fateful day. They had gone through lots of ups and downs from pretending to be in a fake relationship to please their grandmother's to fundraising for helping Chizuru with her very first movie. Their friendship had grown much deeper from complete stranger that hated each other. He adored her. Loved her.
Kazuya was optimistic but not an idiot. He knew someone like Chizuru was above his reach. She was a beauty with talent. A kind heart and had a bright future.
Him? He was at best, average. Not physically gifted, a loner in high school with very little friends and non existent talent. A complete polar opposite of her.
He tried really hard to pretend and keep his feelings hidden. He didn't want to lose her, even if it meant he would be there just to look at her from far.
But he couldn't. He loved her and the idea of losing her to someone made him sick. After a lot of thinking and preparation, he had decided to finally confess his love for her. The perfect opportunity was also presented to him last night.
Chizuru had invited him to a party. At first he thought it was a date but soon his hopes were crushed when she explained it to be a party thrown by 'Umi-kun'
He had a hard time hiding the sour distaste on his mouth from hearing his name. Umi was everything he was not. Pretty face, popular, rich, and a perfect match for Chizuru.
Despite her effort of explaining that they were just colleagues and aspiring co stars, he couldn't help but feel annoyed whenever he saw the boy.
But he couldn't say no to her.
"Sure, I will be there!"
And there he was. Standing in front of the most beautiful girl.
She stood there with sophisticated and neat black assemble, a sheer skirt that made her look more mature and slender, big earrings that gave off the alluring appeal rather than a cute one and a small bag that suits the event and matching luxury silver heels. He could only watch her in awe while painfully being reminded of the difference between them.
She smiled at him, her eyes glittering under the reflection of the party lights. A smile lifted her lips up as she walked towards him. He smiled back blushing profusely, but a pit of anxiety showered him from her presence. Every step she took towards him felt like an approaching heartbreak.
'I should stop myself... this will not work.'
"Kazuya-kun, seriously?" She grumbled. "You are late!"
He gave a nervous laugh. His attention soon faded from her as the murmurs soon began. Something he was getting used to whenever he was out with her.
"Seriously? That's crazy, what ENT is she from?" A guy from the party spoke as he saw her.
"Wow, she looks like a model..."
He could hear more murmurs of the people attending the party. As he looked at them, extravagant is what he could think of. Everyone looked special, beautiful, handsome, rich, classy.
Such people were her colleagues, and their centre of attention was her.
He covered his face out of habit when he is nervous.
"Why you covering your face? Did you forget your wallet?" She deadpanned.
Her voice was joking but it didn't help him at all. He just wanted to run away. He didn't belong in a place like this. He was just not meant for such.
"U-Uh, no..." He shook his head and looked down shyly.
Chizuru looked at his clumsiness and sighed. 'Maybe I was being too pushy.'
"I am sorry." She spoke as she turned away from him.
He looked surprised from her words, momentarily forgetting his nervousness.
"Huh?"
"It feels like I pressed you to come with me today, even though you are unfamiliar with this crowd." She looked at him and sighed again.
"No, I was looking forward to it." He shook his head. The smile on her face was back which made him smile.
"Ah, that's a relief then." She grinned. "Since it's Umi-kun's party, the food must be good too."
He nodded, suppressing the frown that his name brought.
As he followed her to the venue, he could see some familiar faces that he never expected to have the chance to meet in real life.
'Ah... since its his party, its not surprising that his acquaintances are famous movie stars... sigh.' He looked at Chizuru from the corner of his eyes.
'She is not just a rental girlfriend or just a pretty school girl. She is already at their league.' The more he walked through the crowd, the more it reminded him of his foolishness.
'Haha... I was thinking of confessing to her? Me? Hahaha...' He would laugh out loud if there was no one around them. This was too comical and painful.
"Kazuya-kun, what's wrong?"
He stopped, meeting her concerned eyes with his. She looked flawless... he just felt lost. But he couldn't answer her.
"Ah, Chizuru."
Their attention was stolen from the very familiar voice of Umi.
Kazuya looked at the older boy, dressed in fashionable clothes, hair styled probably by his personal stylist, a smile that he could understand as a guy was, charming. He radiated confidence and enigma, something every girl would find attractive.
"Thanks for coming." He greeted.
"Likewise, thanks for inviting."
Kazuya looked at her smiling face. It was different than the one she had with him. It was the smile that felt more formal yet welcoming but easily mistook for something more intimate. He didn't know which it was but he hated it. Absolutely hated it.
"Oh hey, Kinoshita-kun." Umi greeted him.
Kazuya looked at him and nodded. He knew it was being rather impolite but he didn't care. Everything about him pissed him off. Jealousy.
"Oh, by the way Chizuru, come with me. I have some important people I want you to meet." Umi grabbed her wrist and began to pull her away.
Time seemed to have stopped for Kazuya when he watched her being taken away. As if a switch being turned on, all his emotions boiled out.
"She isn't going anywhere." He yelled, grabbing her other arm before pulling her away from his grips.
Umi looked confused while Chizuru was startled.
His loud words gained everyone's attention and soon they were the focus point.
"Kazuya-kun, you are making a scene." Chizuru whispered, frantically looking around her with concern.
Kazuya only tightened his grip around her wrist, making her yelp in pain. "K-Kazuya-kun?"
He didn't answer her, his eyes focussed on Umi, a cold stare that soon made Everything clear to Umi.
A smirk left his lips. "What's wrong Kinoshita-kun, have I upset you somehow?"
Kazuya didn't answer, just glared at him, unaware of the coming storm that would engulf him soon.
"Are you perhaps offended that I touched Chizuru? What are you, her boyfriend?" He laughed, extra loud to cause the growing crowd to further gather around the drama.
"Umi-kun, shh! You are not helping!" Chizuru tried to control the damage but it just caused more drama. It's the kind of drama that only a teemo could bring in a team fight.
"What if she is? Huh? Stay away from her!"
"Kazuya-kun! What are you saying?" Chizuru managed to let her wrist loose from his grip and glared at him. "It's no time for this, what's got into you?" She was genuinely confused but it reminded her of their second meeting where he had caused a similar scene when they went to the aquarium.
Kazuya looked at her and she stiffened. His eyes had a sinister glare that she had never seen before. It made her take a step back involuntarily.
"I... Mizuhara... I..."
"What is it, Kinoshita-kun?" Umi smiled before grabbing her hand yet again.
Kazuya didn't know what happened next but his fist had connected with the blonde's face before he could regret his decision.
Gasps could be heard around the silent venue as Umi fell down, blood oozing out of his nose.
"Umi-kun!" Chizuru went to help him up. Umi looked at him while having a smirk on his face as he held her hand yet again.
"You fucking-" Before he could assault him again, he found a soar pain on his cheeks.
It took him a few seconds to realise what had happened.
"M-Mizuhara..."
"I should have never invited you here. Get lost!"
He looked at her dumbfounded. "Mizuhara I am sorry... he held your hand-"
"SO WHAT?" She yelled. "What is wrong with you? He is my friend!"
He took a step back but his mouth seemed to move on its own. "Mizuhara, I..."
"I am sorry Chizuru. I didn't know I would offend him by doing that. It seems I am causing trouble in your relationship."
"Shut the fuck up, you-" His eyes widened as she stood in front of Umi, hateful eyes staring at him.
"M-Mizuhara I-"
"We have no relationship. There will be no relationship." Her cold words echoed the venue. He could just stare at her as tears began to flow down his cheeks.
"Never talk to me ever again. Kazuya-san."
He didn't care about the laughter that soon echoed the venue from the rest. Nor did he care about the Victory smirk on Umi's face. He only looked at her, and her alone. Until she turned her heels and walked off. Leaving him. Alone.
"Sir, please come with us." Two guards soon grabbed him and began to drag him outside.
Chizuru looked at him one last time, her eyes blurred in tears, unknown to her as to why she was crying. She took a step towards him, only seeing his departing back vanish through the closed doors.
Something made her feel this would be the last time he would see 'him' and the thought made her cry uncontrollable.
'What is wrong with me.' She tried to wipe away her tears but they never stopped. 'What have I done...'
To be continued...
