Jade leaves Castle Butterfly but she has nowhere to go. She can't go home because she has failed her mission. She can't go to Ludo's Castle because she knows she would most certainly not be welcome there. Jade is left to just wander the land until fate lead her in a direction. Jade sits there on the bench, contemplating her life. Jade is now a free Septarian. She realizes at this point that even if her mission is failed, at least she has some sort of closure towards her situation.
For the first time in Jade's life, she feels like a person without a purpose. Having her father on her mind is what initially drove her. It wasn't a healthy drive, but it was something to focus on. As she starts to ponder, she wonders if being angry is worse than being sad, and mourning loss, but then, the more she contemplates, she realizes that at the very least, grief passes with time. But why does Jade's grief persist, even many years later. Perhaps it is because of how close Jade was with her father before his demise.
Behind the facade of a stoic genius mastermind was a father figure. Every day, even as he watched and observed Star from Castle Avarius under Ludo's employment, he thought about Jade. Toffee's mission was about more than simply gaining revenge for a silly finger, or for even humiliating him by revealing his fragility in front of his crew, it was mostly about protecting Jade, and about protecting his wife, Emerald, who he had come close to losing before.
On Jade's right hand, she wears a silver ring with an emerald inside. This ring had been given to her by her father when the very finger he wore it on was blown clean off my Moon the undaunted. This ring represents the last gift Jade had ever received from her father. It is something that symbolically represents her connection with him. Maybe it is the ring. Maybe the ring serves as a constant reminder of what she has lost. Jade realizes that she never cared about anyone as much as her dad.
Jade recalls the time in her childhood when she last saw her father. Toffee had adorned himself in his familiar battle armor when Jade had walked in on him applying his chest plate, with a tank top underneath. She looked at her father with a big smile.
Jade: Daddy? Where are you going?
Toffee: Daddy's on a mission. You know how I always go on secret missions, and then when I come back, I tell you all about them?
Jade: Yeah?
Toffee: Well, this one is the biggest. Remember the evil Queen of Mewni I told you about, the one that hurt daddy and took off his finger?
Jade: Uh huh.
Well, I have to go and get my finger back.
Jade: You're not gonna fight her again, are you? I don't want her to take more of your fingers away.
Toffee: What makes you think that will happen?
Jade: Mommy told me what the bad Queens do. She told me that the evil Queens kill people and that the Queen is why we live here in this big city away from everyone else.
Toffee: Mommy really shouldn't be telling you things like that, even if they are true.
Jade: Daddy, please don't go. I don't want you to die like what happened with the other people did that made her mad.
Jade started to cry because she could feel it. Toffee rose from his kneeling position and sighed. It's like Jade knew that once he left he would never come back, and she was right. Toffee was gone for years as he spied on the Butterfly family, planning, weeding his way into Castle Avarius, waiting for the proper opportunity to strike.
Toffee: Hey, what have I told you about crying?
Jade: W-we don't cry, e-even when they're really s-sad or mad.
Toffee: That's why you gotta be a really big girl, and be strong, and help mommy out while I'm gone. Okay?
Jade: U-Uh huh.
Toffee could tell that his calming message wasn't helping her, and that she needed more encouragement. Toffee knew that he likely wouldn't return for a very long time, and knew about the possibility of not coming back at all, so he came up with a way to ease her mind.
Toffee: I'll tell you what, you like my ring, right, the one I used to wear on my finger before that meanie Moon blew it off?
Jade: Yeah, the pretty one with the really shiny green thing in it?
Toffee: That's an emerald, just like mommy. Hold out your hand.
Toffee placed the silver ring with the emerald in Jade's hand.
Toffee: I want you to hold onto it for me 'til I get back.
Jade put the ring over her middle finger. It was too big for her hand.
Toffee: It might be a really long time until I get back, but maybe this will make you feel better. So long as you have this ring, you'll know I'm out there somewhere.
Jade looked at the ring, and then back up at Toffee. She threw her arms around him and he wrapped his all the way around her tiny body. She could feel her father's breath as he breathed a sigh that ran down her back. It was then that she knew that what her father was feeling was that of reluctance, and then that she knew she wouldn't be seeing him for a long time.
Jade: I love you, daddy.
Toffee: I love you too, my little lady.
Jade runs off with the ring. Emerald watches from the doorway as Jade runs past her, arms folded as she looks at her husband in frustration.
Toffee: I can't believe you told her where I was going.
Emerald: She deserves to know the truth. It's easier to digest when you know the truth.
Toffee: Jeez, it's like I'm laying in a casket and you people have already written me off as dead.
Emerald: Just promise me you won't go losing anymore appendages. Okay?
Toffee: Okay.
Toffee embraces Emerald in a kiss before treading one final time through his manner, out the front door, and towards the gate to Septarsis. She would never see him again. Jade finds it hard to accept now, but she realizes that she essentially went down the same path as her father, except that her failure was by choice, and her father's was not. The worst feeling, and the hardest for Jade to accept, is that she somehow not only let Septarsis down, but her father. She failed to avenge him by taking down Queen Moon and because of that, it's almost like Queen Moon had won.
In order to take her mind off of her father, she starts to think of other things, such as Ludo. Some of the things Star and Moon had mentioned bothers her a bit. She starts to wonder if she really does have it lucky. She wonders if she's lucky to have such a great dad. She wonders how bad Ludo had it based on the way Queen Moon and Star described his family, and if those very same people, really did want Ludo back.
For one to find the truth to such things, one need only look at scene currently unfolding at New Castle Avarius itself, where Queen Moon pays a visit to deliver the news to Lady Avarius and Brudo. With royal guards at either side, she knocks at New Castle Avarius gate until Lady Avarius answers the door.
Lady Avarius: Queen Moon! What brings you here?
Queen Moon: I have some good news and some bad news.
Lady Avarius: What's the bad news?
Queen Moon: My assailant showed up again to make another attempt on my life. She is a Septarian by the name of Jade, and she's apparently the daughter of Toffee. Without saying too much, I dealt with her. She will no longer be a problem to us. While I did not extract an exact location from her, I did manage to get her to reveal that Ludo is most likely at Septarsis.
Lady Avarius: Septarsis! With news like that, the good news better be a doozy.
Queen Moon: She claims that Ludo is safe there. I can't for the life of me think of how he would be safe there.
Brudo: Perhaps they took interest in Ludo because of all the trouble-making he's caused.
Lady Avarius: You think it's possible the Septarians took interest in our boy's mischief?
Queen Moon: Brudo may very well have a point. You see, Ludo was already imprisoned within my tower under the belief that he had ordered the Septarian assassin girl to take the royal wand for himself. She claimed that this wasn't true, and that she had only taken it because she's rather fond of Ludo.
Lady Avarius: Wait a minute. Are you saying that your assassin has a CRUSH on Ludo?
Queen Moon: For lack of a better term, yes.
Brudo: Good for him. It's about time the boy found someone that took interest in him.
Lady Avarius and Queen Moon just look at Brudo, dumbfounded.
Brudo: What?
Queen Moon: If this is true, Jade may have taken Ludo to Septarsis to protect him. He was in the dungeon, which may have led Jade to believe that Ludo was in big trouble and would have faced severe consequences should he be linked to Jade's actions.
Lady Avarius: So she was trying to PROTECT Ludo?
Brudo: Then we have to go to Septarsis!
Queen Moon: There's only one problem.
Brudo: What's that?
Queen Moon: We don't know where Septarsis is, or even if it still exists?
Brudo: Huh?
Queen Moon: The original Septarsis, which now lay in ruins, was destroyed over 300 years ago by Queen Solaria in an invasion. She reduced it to ashes. They used to take pilgrimages there to pay respects to their dead but they haven't been seen there in decades. It used to be located on the eastern side of the Forest of Certain Death, between Castle Avarius II and the coast.
Lady Avarius: So that burnt, ruined ghost town that my sons used to roam around and spook each other with, that's Septarsis?
Queen Moon: Precisely.
Lady Avarius: Why doesn't it show up on any of our maps?
Queen Moon: Our maps today are from within the last 150 years and have been updated to reflect the current day. It is for this reason that Septarsis no longer shows up. I have a map in Butterfly Castle, a mounted tapestry in the foyer that depicts Septarsis as it stood centuries ago.
Brudo: So this begs the question, where is this supposed "new" Septarsis?
Queen Moon: I don't know. I am only mostly certain that that is where your son will be.
Lady Avarius: Oh Moon, I'm worried sick about my baby!
Queen Moon: We will find him. Mark my words. For now though, I must be off. In the morning I have a very important conference with the Water Kingdom and I must get my rest. I bid you farewell.
Lady Avarius: Goodbye, my Queen.
Brudo: Bye.
Lady Avarius: Oh Brudo, what do we do?
Brudo: Well, we find a Septarian, and we MAKE them tell us where this Septarsis is! We'll start with Ludo's old buddies.
Brudo gets on the phone and contacts Ludo's various henchmen, telling them to get in contact with the others and to meet at 10 am the next morning to discuss another "project". A large group of Ludo's army shows up at 10 on the dot, as prudent as they are, and are invited into the castle. They are confused but also excited to get new work. They are happy to see Brudo and Lady Avarius back together. But then they look at Brudo's expression of sternness and that changes.
Brudo: Gentlemen, I have brought you all here because, as I said the other day, your old boss Ludo, my son, her son, our family, is in trouble. We have come to leads that tell us that Ludo has been taken to Septarsis. So, do any of you know where Septarsis is? Hmm?
Brudo walks to the right and left, looking through Ludo's army's ranks. None of them appear to be genuinely Septarian. It isn't until he gets to Frill-Necked Lizard monster that he starts pondering.
Brudo: You! You look like a lizard to me. Are you Septarian by any chance?
Frill-Necked Lizard Monster: N-no, Lord Brudo, your highness.
Brudo: You wouldn't be lying to me would you?
Frill-Necked Lizard Monster: No sir. My family are all natural born Frill Necks. See, here's a picture.
He pulls a wallet out of his loincloth pocket, showing Brudo his family. All of them are short, stumpy little frill-necked lizards like him, and he has several little ones, 3 daughters, all cute chubby little frill-necks.
Brudo: Hm... I don't believe you. You wouldn't want me to get angry would you?
Frill-Necked Lizard Monster: No sir, please.
Crocodile Monster: I-I-I have family.
Brudo: Who said that?
Crocodile Monster: Over here, sir.
Brudo: You're Septarian?
Crocodile Monster: I-I-I have a c-cousin that lives in Septarsis.
Brudo: Oh really? How do you get to Septarsis?
Crocodile Monster: I can't tell you.
Brudo: You WILL tell me!
Crocodile Monster: No, I mean uh... it would be easier to show you. It's kinda difficult to explain.
Brudo smiles at the crocodile in a malicious way.
Brudo: Then come with me!
Lady Avarius: What are you doing?
Brudo: This guy is gonna show me where Septarsis is.
Brudo leads the crocodile away by the hand and tosses him into his deathtrap of a classic sports car.
Crocodile Monster: What in the world? You're mad!
Brudo: You haven't seen nothing yet. You lead the way. We're gonna find this place.
Crocodile Monster: It's pretty far.
Brudo: I got plenty of gas in this baby, my friend.
Brudo turns the key in the ignition.
Lady Avarius: I'll be praying for you.
Brudo: Thanks babe.
Lady Avarius: I was talking to him.
Brudo: Oh, uh... I knew that.
Brudo hit the gas pedal and was digging up dirt.
Crocodile Monster: Help me.
Brudo lowers his shades into his beak. He revs the engine like he's about to burn rubber up and then slams on the ignition. They spin off into the distance, Brudo tearing the road like an absolute madman. They will find Septarsis, even if it's the last thing Brudo does. He's a new man with a new outlook on life and a thirst to just pummel someone. Brudo has gone from the man that had nothing to do with his son, to the man that will give anything just to see him again, and to have his family once again complete.
