When the Enterprise becomes haunted by an unknown creature, Scotty is tortured to near insanity, Dr. McCoy is poisoned by cyanide powder in his drink, and Spock is kidnapped to become a brainwashed minion. (I'm not sure if the quote at the start is mine or not. This has been sitting on my computer for a long time. Written just after Star Trek 2009.)

Following a vague order to a vague part of the galaxy, Kirk and Spock beam down to the planet to nogotiate a peace treaty between it and a warring neighbor planet. On the planet, an explosion occurs, leaving Kirk severely injured. Worried about his Captain, Spock accepts command and discovers a shocking revelation...not only about the explosion but of possible planetary warfare.

I have been working on other projects for months now, but was jonesing bigtime for some fanfic. Sarek and Chapel won the tug of war for what it would be about. Thanks to those who asked for another story for them-I hope you like this!. This is a standalone, not in the Life is Messy series. Because the death of a loved one can make things weird long after it's happened.
