Chapter XIX

The next morning, Sunday morning, Jacob called a Pack meeting. Ever since he had left Bella's house the night before, he had been rolling over all the information she had given him before deciding to call his brothers. Like him, he knew they weren't going to take kindly to the news, especially with everything happening, but it was important he tell them so that they could figure out what to do. That, and Bella expected him to tell them, as she knew that he would have to being Alpha now.

Jacob stood waiting on First Beach for his Pack to arrive, and it wasn't long before they did. Once everyone was present, Sam asked, "What is this meeting about, Jacob?"

"It's about Bella," Jacob answered.

"Of course, it is," Paul grumbled in annoyance.

Ignoring him, Jacob proceeded to tell everyone about his visit to Bella the night before at the brunette's request. He then began to fill them in on everything she had told him, starting with her going to Italy with the Seer leech to save the mind reader, to which they were all aware of due to Jacob's heartbreak at the time. However, they were surprised to learn that the place she had gone to was where the kings of vampires resided in order to save Cullen, as well as the one crucial rule they had that could not be broken, a rule the Cullens knowing broke for the mind reader's supposed happiness. If hearing Bella was supposed to have been turned or dead, and should be by now, was bad enough, Jacob knew this next bit of news was sure to make things worse for them. Hell, it did for him when Bella told him, but it was important that he give them the full picture of Bella's situation here.

Taking a deep breath, Jacob continued. "She and those leeches shouldn't have walked out alive from those Volturi leeches. All three of them should have died that day."

"Then what happened to allow them to walk free?" Jared asked.

"Bella cut a deal with them in order for them to live."

Paul's eyes narrowed, having a feeling of where this was going. "And what deal was that?"

Here it was, the moment of truth. "Bella made the promise to be turned into a vampire. And with those royal leeches, a deal is a promise that can't be broken."

The reactions were many, but the ones to stand out the most were those of anger and shock. Paul let out a long string of explicatives, Jared and even Quil not being to happy about the news. Ignoring them and how Paul shouted that Bella brought nothing but trouble to them, Jacob turned his attention to the other four members that had yet to speak. Sam, Embry, Seth, and Leah, while in shock at the news, seemed to have looks of contemplation on their faces, particularly Sam and Leah.

After everyone got their immediate reactions out, Seth spoke up asking, "So this deal that was made, doesn't this break the Treaty? I mean, it seems to me that the Cullens would be the ones to help fulfill this deal, so they would end up turning Bella, right? Doesn't this break the treaty?"

Nodding gravely, Jared answered, "Yes, it does, and that means we'll have a fight on our hands with the Cullens."

"True, but this situation is slightly different," Quil said after calming down and thinking. "The Treaty was made to make sure that they could live peacefully in Forks, so long as they didn't turn a human into one of their kind. Granted, that was back during a time when people were turned into Cold One's against their will. In Bella's case, she's choosing to be a vampire."

"But the same rules apply, damn it!" Paul shouted.

"I agree with Quil in that it's different, but not for those reasons," Leah interjected. Seeing she had the boys' attention, she said, "Bella is pregnant now, something that I'm sure neither the Cullens, or these Volturi vultures thought about. It seems they forget that Bella is human, outside of the obvious. Things happen and things change, her being pregnant being one of them. And with this new development, it will help to void her agreement."

"How, sis?" Seth asked with a confused frown.

Deciding to take up here, Jacob said, "The Volturi and Cullens want and expect Bella's turning, and will make sure that it will happen. However, Bella has already stated that she no longer has the desire to be a vampire. She wants to stay human, and she wants to have and take care of our baby. Being a vampire is no longer a priority of hers, especially now that she's no longer with Edward Cullen."

"That, and with her being pregnant, it's highly doubtful the doc vamp would be willing to turn her while she's still carrying life inside of her," Leah added. "He may be a vampire, but he's also a doctor that values human life. I doubt he'd be okay with killing an unborn fetus just to appease the kings of his kind and the mind reader. If anything, he'd wait until the baby was born and at an age where it didn't rely on Bella so much."

Sam nodded in contemplation before saying, "Interesting theory, one that I see reason in. But I suggest we table this for now. There isn't anything we can do right now while the Treaty is still in place. Not to mention that we have this newborn vampire army to deal with soon. The one thing that we have in our favor concerning this is Bella's refusal to be turned. But like I said, we table it for now and come back to it when we're done with the newborns."

Jacob nodded in agreement, knowing that as acting Alpha, it wasn't time to give all his attention to this issue, even if he wanted to out of love for Bella. But like Sam said, it would have to wait. Still, he didn't want to put it off for too long. Coming to this conclusion, he asked if there were any more needed to be said—there were none—before dismissing them. As the Pack dispersed, Jacob looked up at the sky, praying to the Quileute gods for guidance and help when it was time.

Monday morning, Bella was hunched over the toilet bowl, having a bad bout of morning sickness. It was worse than usual, so much so that she felt she could barely stand up off the bathroom floor. She heaved before throwing up again, tears running down her face as she did. As she panted to catch her breath, Bella doubted that she was going to make it to school that day, especially with her barely able to leave the toilet.

Finally able to finish puking and catching her breath, she flushed the toilet and stood on shaky legs, gripping the sink and taking a few more deep breaths before proceeding to brush her teeth and rinse her mouth out. After washing her face, she went back to her bedroom and got back in bed, taking her cell phone in hand, and opening it to her call log. Finding Charlie's number, she dialed it and held the device to her ear, listening to the receiver ring. It wasn't long before her father picked up.

"Hey Bella," Charlie greeted. "You getting ready to leave for school?"

"Hey dad. I would be if I felt like I'd be able to stay away from the toilet," she told him. "My morning sickness is making me sicker than usual, and I'm not feeling well enough for school. I think I'm just going to stay home."

"That's alright, kiddo. You stay home and rest. I'll call the school and tell them you will be out for the day. Just make sure you have Angela or someone bring you any school work you'll miss so you won't get behind."

"I will, dad, and thanks."

"No problem. Also, before you hang up, you should call the hospital and set up an appointment with an OB/GYN. You need to be proactive in your baby's growth and development. You haven't been to the doctor about the baby since finding out you were pregnant."

Realizing her father was right, she promised him that she would before hanging up. Calling the hospital immediately, Bella was able to get an appointment for a sonogram of her baby, as well as any other information she would need to have a healthy pregnancy. Her appointment was set for Thursday at four in the afternoon. She was surprised she was able to get one so quick but was glad that she could. As she set her phone back down on her nightstand, Bella couldn't help but place her hands on her still flat stomach, a feeling of excitement rising in her. She was excited to be able to get her first ultrasound of her baby, but she was also nervous about it. It was going to be such a special moment for her, and she couldn't wait to show the picture to Jacob when she got it.

Wait. Why wait to show him when he could be there with her? Grabbing her phone once again, she called him and invited him over to her house, telling him she was taking the day off from school. Jacob agreed and told her he'd be there as soon as he could. It wasn't long before she heard the familiar sound of a motorcycle pulling into her driveway, making her smile as she knew that her boyfriend had arrived. It was still nice to think of him that way. Ever since she had confessed her love for him, returning his feelings and having kissed him, they had been an official couple. Granted, they just made their relationship official the day before after Jacob had come over after his Pack meeting, but it was a nice development all the same, and it made her feel giddy inside.

Hearing the front door open, she heard Jacob call out, "Bells?!"

"Up here, Jake!" she called back, it being silent for a moment after that before her Jacob appeared in her bedroom doorway.

Grinning at her, he moved to the bed and lied down with her, wrapping his arms around her, and greeting her with a sweet kiss saying, "Hi honey."

"Hey," Bella replied softly.

"Is the baby making you sick? Is that why you're staying home today?"

"Yeah, I could barely leave the bathroom."

"Have you eaten anything?"

"No, I haven't even been downstairs."

Standing up from the bed, Jacob told her that he'd be right back before leaving her room and heading downstairs. She could hear him moving around in the kitchen but wasn't quite sure what he was up to. It wasn't long before the Shifter returned with a plate of buttered toast, as well as a yogurt cup and a glass of water. Smiling at his thoughtfulness, Bella thanked him and sat up in bed, eating the breakfast that Jacob had made for her. And luckily for her, their baby didn't rebel the food she was eating to make her throw up.

As she ate, they talked about this and that before Bella finally broached the subject of her appointment. Taking another sip of water, she waited for Jacob to place it on her nightstand before saying, "Jake, I've made an appointment to get an ultrasound on the baby. It's Thursday at four, and I wanted to know if you wanted to come."

Jacob smiled brightly at her before hugging her close to him, saying, "Of course, I'll be there, Bells. I wouldn't miss it for the world, or any other appointment if I can help it."

Bella smiled happily before yawning, snuggling into Jacob's embrace. Seeing his girlfriend was obviously still tired, Jacob kissed the top of her head before lying the both of them down, Bella's head resting on his strong chest. And as Bella rested against him on the verge of sleep, she listening to him sing an old Quileute lullaby, his deep voice a pleasant rumble to her ears as he sung her to sleep.

Rosalie hung out by the Treaty line, casually waiting to be noticed by one of the wolves surely on patrol. Or just be noticed by one of them in general, which ever happened first. She had been hanging out there for the better part of thirty minutes, wondering if any of the wolves would notice her presence, before silent movement caught her attention. Turning her head to the approaching figures, she thought, Finally, they've spotted me.

The two wolves that were coming to her were Embry Call and Leah Clearwater, the two of them looking at the blonde vampire warily. Stopping at the Treaty line, Embry asked, "What do you want, Rosalie?" It was easy to spot her, as it was known she was the prettier one of the Cullen coven.

Hands up in a placating manner, Rosalie said, "I come in peace, don't worry. I'm just here to let you and your Pack know that I want to help you protect Bella during and after this whole Victoria and newborn business. Especially with her being pregnant, I want to help protect her like you will, especially with Black being Alpha now."

Embry and Leah looked at each other for a moment before turning their attention back to the blonde. Tilting her head slightly, Leah asked, "And why should we trust you?"

"Because I'm the only one of my family that you can trust fully," Rosalie answered. "I just want to help protect Bella and the baby. Please let me help you do that."
