Author's Notes: Hi, readers. I would like to present what is probably the first Twilight/Free Willy crossover. It is AU set three months after Twilight and eight years after Free Willy 3: The Rescue and shows Charlie and Bella heading to San Juan Island for three weeks to see Jesse, Nadine, Randolph and Willy in which they invite Edward along and finding themselves helping to investigate illegal whaling and mysterious murders. I wondered what would happen if Charlie, Edward, and Bella helped Jesse, Nadine, and Randolph investigate illegal whaling and strange killings while seeing them and Willy. As a result, this crossover was born. The population of orcas that regularly swims through Puget Sound and has been seen as far north as Vancouver Island and as far south as California is called the Southern Resident Community. It is made up of three pods with the letters of J, K, and L. J-Pod was used as Willy's birth pod throughout the Free Willy series. You will see special appearances by a number of J-Pod, K-Pod, and L-Pod orcas throughout the crossover. It is recommended you know about the Twilight Saga and the Free Willy series before you attempt to read this crossover. I hope you enjoy this crossover. Constructive criticism is welcome.

Chapter 1: Fun Afternoon Turned Tragic

The midafternoon sun beamed its rays on the San Juan Islands in mid-July. The ocean seemed to be sparkling. A golden eagle screeched while gliding effortlessly through the sky. It flapped its wings in which it gained altitude. It let out another screech, this one being louder. It flicked its tongue three times before shaking its head.

Eight years had passed since Jesse, Randolph, Drew, and Max stopped a team of poachers from harming J-Pod. This had included Willy's mate, Nikki. She had been a member of L-Pod and was pregnant with their son, Max, at the time. An investigation found the Southern Resident orcas weren't the only ones killed. Transient orcas that frequented the area had also been targets. Both populations managed to recover. However, they remained under threat due to pollution, boat traffic, food depletion, and habitat destruction.

Two years after Max's birth, Charlie and Bella visited San Juan Island for a three-week vacation in which they rented a cabin belonging to the former's lawyer friend, Justin Biggins, who worked in Port Angeles. They met Jesse, Nadine, and Randolph while on a walk in Friday Harbor. They learned about Jesse and Willy's friendship, especially how they helped each other cope with the loss of their families. They befriended Willy and J-Pod, including Nikki and Max. They even played with the orcas in the water. They made two more trips there in 2002 and 2004.

The eagle looked down at the water. Just then, three L-Pod orcas broke the surface. They darted underwater with loud clicks. Three more came up, as did two others. They disappeared just as fast their podmates had. Three spyhopped while squealing playfully. They slipped beneath the surface. Another leapt into the air. It landed on its stomach, creating two huge splashes.

Much had changed in all three Southern Resident pods since Max's birth. Willy and Nikki had a daughter, Annalise, in March 2001. Willy's sister, Luna, found her mate, Phineas, who had been a member of K-Pod. He traveled with theirs now. They had a son, Flit, in April 1998 and a daughter, Lila, in July 2004. Willy and Luna often spent time away from their mother. So did their mates and children. Their brother, Littlespot, still traveled with her regularly. This year welcomed three new calves into the population. The first was named Pooka (L106). He was the son of Surprise (L86). The second was named Lambda (L107). He was the son of Marina (L47). The third was named Eclipse (J41). She was the daughter of Shachi (J19). Pooka and Lambda were born in June. Eclipse came along this month.

Ocean Sun (L25) spyhopped with a joyful squeal. The dip in the front of her right eyepatch could be seen. She slipped underwater and returned to the surface. She lowered her head. She gave the water five tail slaps. She placed her tail back on it in which she lifted her head. She darted underwater and turned toward the surface. She leapt into the air, landing on her stomach and creating two huge splashes and a small one.

Surprise surfaced with a burst of air. Pooka mimicked his mother both ways. Her open saddle patch was clearly visible. So was the dip in the middle of her left eyepatch. His white areas were quite orange. His eyepatches and saddle patch on both sides were similar to hers. They dove underwater very quickly. They turned upside down while going toward the surface. They leapt backward, hitting the water on their backs. She created two big splashes while he made two small ones.

Marina did a bow, as did Lambda. The slight opening in the right side of her saddle patch was visible. So was the slight hook above her right eye in her eyepatch. He had features similar to hers. His white areas were just as orange as Pooka's were. They repeated their action twice. They came to the surface. She opened her mouth and folded her tongue. He imitated her both ways.

Ankh (L21) surfaced near her daughter and grandson. Her closed saddle patch could be seen on her right side. Marina and Lambda closed their mouths. They went underwater, as did she. They dove deep before turning upward. They did spyhops, playful clicks coming from their blowholes. They slipped beneath the surface, returning to it.

Lambda ducked underwater and spotted small salmon swimming around. He snapped his jaws at them playfully. This made them scatter in different directions. He squealed with much eagerness. He chased after one as it swam by him. He lost interest and surfaced with a small burst of air. He headed over to his mother, who nuzzled him gently.

Moonlight (L83) surfaced with a large salmon in her mouth. The dip in the middle of her right eyepatch happened to be very visible. So was the opening in the back of her saddle patch. Muncher (L91) appeared, a loud burst of air coming out of her blowhole. She lacked the dip in her right eyepatch and opening in her saddle patch.

Muncher swam over to her sister and grabbed the front end of the salmon. They pulled on it until it split into two. They squealed amusingly before swallowing their halves. They swam until they were nose to nose. They nuzzled each other affectionately. They turned and began swimming at a steady speed. They let out soft squeaks, followed by similar-sounding squeals.

Unbeknownst to L-Pod, a boat captain was watching it through binoculars. A harpooner observed it at the bow, but he did not have a pair of his own. He was in front of the harpoon gun. The first mate tightened his grip on the steering wheel. The captain adjusted his binoculars a bit. He could see Surprise throwing a stick around. He spotted Marina tossing a rock to Ankh. All three orcas went underwater.

"Those whales may be having fun now, but we will end it very quickly," the captain said with an evil chuckle. He put the binoculars down and looked toward the harpooner. "Ready the harpoon."

"Yes, sir!" the harpooner said and reached into his pockets. He pulled out gloves and slipped them on. He headed to the back of the cabin, where the harpoons were. "It is time to roast up some whales."

The harpooner grabbed a harpoon and returned to the gun. He pointed the latter toward the orcas before slipping the former inside. He tied them together with a thick rope and cleared his throat. He rubbed his hands together while going behind the gun. He placed his finger on the trigger.

"Increase the boat's speed a little bit," the captain ordered as he glanced at the first mate.

"Yes, sir," the first mate responded and did what he was told. "Speed has been increased."

"Good," the captain said, smiling sinisterly. "We are going to be making lots of money once again."

"You were smart to suggest everyone wear gloves to prevent fingerprints from being left on the harpoons and spears," the first mate commented.

The captain exhaled. "We can't risk being identified as the whalers."

The first mate nodded in agreement. "So true."

The boat moved closer to the orcas. Marina surfaced with a loud burst of air. She dove underwater as Lambda came up. She slapped her tail on the surface. He slipped beneath it as the harpooner narrowed his eyes at him. He turned toward it and did a spyhop. He squealed in much playfulness. He headed back underwater and swam after his mother.

The harpooner growled fiercely and pulled the trigger. Lambda surfaced again as the harpoon flew toward him. It hit him in the side, causing him to squeal in great pain. He cried out for Marina as he ceased all movement. She heard him and turned around, lifting her head and crying in horror. The water around him began to turn bright red. She swam over to him. She dove downward and pushed him above the surface. Ankh, Moonlight, and Muncher rushed to her side. The crew cheered in great joy.

"That was a great shot," the first mate said.

"It was a newborn calf, but I don't give a shit," the captain responded in a malicious way. "There is plenty more where that came from."

The first mate. "Yes, it—"

Suddenly, the line snapped in which it caused the crew to stop cheering. They watched as Marina swam away with her dead son on her nose. They listened to her crying mournfully. Her mother and elder offspring followed her close behind, as did the rest of L-Pod. The captain led out a loud scoff.

"Look at those things swimming away. They look so pathetic," the captain said with a roll of his eyes.

"Shouldn't we be worried about the body being found?" the first mate asked.

"There are no fingerprints on the harpoon. We will never be identified. Try to have more confidence," the captain retorted.

"Yes, sir," the first mate said with a nod.

"Remove the harpoon gun!" the captain ordered while glancing at the harpooner. "We're heading back to port."

"Yes, sir!" the gunner blurted out. "It's time to go home."

The harpooner grabbed the gun and twisted it. He took it off and headed for the back of the boat. The first mate did a very sharp turn of the wheel. The boat turned away from the orcas. It moved away from them. Marina surfaced while keeping Lambda on her nose. She emitted mournful cries. Ankh, Moonlight, and Muncher made similar sounds.
