Forest of Death
Next morning raised within the Forest of Death, Sakura kept herself up to guard and care for Sasuke while he is in an unconscious state, a state which is caused by the bite off a the serpentine rouge ninja named Orochimaru. The bite which left a dark bruise on the side of his neck, bearing the shape of 3 circling tomoes similar to the ones on a mature Sharingan of his late clan.
The pain from the bite is unbearable and it puts the young ninja in a state of stress and discomfort, and nightmares starts to plague his mind, nightmares which take the form of his Clan's fall and the one responsible, a clansman known as Itachi. Sasuke tossed and turned in the nightmares as he relives that horrible night, to see everyone in his clan litter the compound with their own corpses and their blood stains the walls and floors. Windows and doors broke as they bear signs of futile attempts of escape, but no one escapes from the blade of Itachi.
As Sasuke remain in his nightmares, Sakura is trying her best to give Sasuke some comfort in his forced sleep, by adjusting his head so he can get some comfort and also keep his forehead drenched to keep the fever caused by stress low. But all only cause stress on the pink haired kunoichi for she is on high concern for her crush/teammate while her other teammate Naruto is no where to be seen after being separated by the Kumo ninja.
The night was long and uncomfortable for both Sakura and Sasuke, but eventually the first crack of dawn beams out through the leafy canopy of the forest, and early songbirds sing on the branches. Sakura looks up with eyes heavy from lack of sleep, and her eyes narrow to adjust from the blinding sun after being exposed by prolonged darkness of the night.
"Huh, its finally morning, but Naruto is still not back" said Sakura as she starts to yawn out loud as the sleep is waiting.
Suddenly a rustling of the bushes caught Sakura's attention and got her on high alert, but she starts to calm down with she saw the familiar smell of Naruto's pheromones and the sight of his spiky blonde hair.
Naruto emerge from the thik green of the forest and approaches the pink haired kunoichi and, by wonderous surprise, the regained conscious Sasuke beneath the roots of the tree they made camp with.
"Sakura" said Naruto as he rushed to her, Sakura dropped her shoulders in relief that her missing teammate is back.
"Thank kami" said Sakura before giving Naruto a light bonk on the head. "What took you?! I had to protect Sasuke-kun all on my own after what Orochimaru did."
"Sorry, Sakura" said Naruto rubbing his head after Sakura bonked him. He then looked at Sasuke "How are you, Teme?"
"A little sore, but I'll live" said Sasuke
Sakura sighs in relief that Sasuke alright, and with Naruto returned she feels more safe. That is until a certain chuckle echoes in her ear.
"Kukuku"
Sakura turns to where the chuckling is made, and to her shock and fright. Orochimaru stands 6 feet apart from the genin, the sannin's serpent eyes leer hungrily and unleashes a murderous intent on them. However, Sakura appears to be the only one to notice Orochimaru while Narto and Sasuke busy talking/arguing with each other. She starts to call out to warn her teammates, but no words and no sound comes out from her mouth. She is silent to her team's ears, she tries to reach out but her hands phase through as if she is a ghost or something.
"It's pointless to warn them, for they are my prey" said Orochimaru "and there is nothing you can do to save them!"
Orochimaru's neck starts to stretch out and reaches out to them, then the neck and head of the sannan transforms into a dangerous snake with its wide maw agape with a pair of venomous fangs primed to strike its prey.
"NO!" Sakura screams out, the scream which woke her up from a night she wasn't aware she as in. She looked out around the area and finds herself underneath the roots she and Sasuke made camp. Realising that she was only dreaming, she sighs in relief that there is no sign of Orochimaru, but she also sighed heavily in despair as there is no sign of Naruto either.
"Get a hold of yourself, Sakura" said Sakura as she rub her eyes and look down to check up on the unconscious Sasuke. "Still not awake."
She gazes sadly at Sasuke as he winces in pain in his sleep, she took off the rag so she can soak it with water and place it on his forehead again.
"It wasn't suppose to be like this" said Sakura as she grit her teeth in frustration. "I can understand opposing teams and dangerous creatures in the forest, but why would a rouge ninja like Orochimaru attack us?"
She then pull down Sasuke's high collar to look at the mark which the snake sannin gave him.
"And what is this mark?" said Sakura until suddenly she heard rustling from the greenery.
Sakura quickly pulled out her kunai and gets ready for battle, the sound trio saw this and started chuckling.
"Today's not a good day for you, is it?" said Dosu "But luckily I am feeling generous to let you go, if you give Sasuke Uchiha to us."
Sakura frowned as she block the still unconscious Sasuke from their view, this is very suspicious to the pink haired kunoichi, first Orochimaru strikes and now this team of a hidden village she never heard of before. And what's stranger is that the team never even mentioned the scrolls, their only interest is Sasuke alone.
Indeed this rouse her suspicions and kept her guard.
"I don't think so, especially what Orochimaru did to Sasuke" said Sakura as she suddenly saw Dosu's lone eye widen when she mentioned the Snake Sannin. "So, I was right, you do work for Orochimaru."
What the…don't tell me that Orochimaru-san has…no matter, this changes nothing, thought Dosu. "I don't know how you know our master, but we've got a mission to do and I'm asking NICELY for you to move aside."
"Don't waste your breath on her, Dosu" said Zaku as he starts to slowly approach her. "She's but a weak little genin, she's got no power against us."
Sakura remained calm but that doesn't mean she isn't afraid, the genin before her are showing no mercy and each have the intent to kill.
Where are you, Naruto, thought Sakura with worry in her mind.
"Wait, Zaku." Dosu calls to his teammate to stop him while he steps forward first so he crouch down to the ground and examine the ground. "We're in a forest, meaning the area rarely gets any sunlight, so the ground should be void of greenery. Yet the ground between us and the target is covered in moss."
"So that explains why she scared off that squirrel, so it wouldn't trigger the pitfall trap" said Zaku as Dosu removed the cover to expose many pitfalls littering the area between the Oto nin and Sakura.
"Very clever, but it will take more than meagre traps to stop us, girl" said Dosu as he then navigate his way through the trap-laden ground, walking between the pitfalls so he can approach Sakura and the unconscious Sasuke. But as he's halfway, he failed to notice that the area has near invisible tripwires inches above the ground to be tripped by un-careful feet. Dosu's foot caught the wire and suddenly a swinging stump drops down from the treetops and swings towards the mummified ninja. "What the..?
Dosu quickly evades by leaping back, but his heal triggered another swinging trap, a mudball with sharpened twigs, branches and kunai swing at the ninja's direction. Dosu cannot dodge this as he is still in midair.
"SHIT!" exclaimed Dosu as the swinging spikeball is dangerously gaining closer.
Suddenly Zaku stretch out his arms and a sudden burst of wind blasts out from his palms. The burst of air blow from Zaku's palms obliterated the swinging trap, saving Dosu from a possible demise. Dosu lands down with a crouch as he resumes his hunched form.
"Clever of you to prime the area with traps, girl" said Dosu "but it will take more than that to take us down."
"That's right, you're not dealing with ordinary genin here" said Zaku as he presents his palm to Sakura, in the centre of his palms are small holes which air starts to blow out. "We are equipped with eh cutting edge of ninja technology, we of Oto will revolutionize the ninja way and make your generation obsolete."
"And to prove our worth, we need to test our worth" said Dosu "Meaning we must fight the Uchiha, wake him up or we'll come here and make him."
Sakura frowned as her traps have failed, she has seen what Zaku can do but she is not yet seen what the hunched Dosu and their kunoichi teammate Kin can do. And she doesn't want to risk it. Naruto isn't back yet and Sasuke is still out of action, she's all along.
"Alright, we'll wake him up ourselves, and kill you along the way" said Dosu as he and his team charge in for the kill.
Sakura however is now worried, she pulls out a kunai to spring out one last trap she made should her other traps fail her. Be that the case, the final trap which is a massive swinging log with jutting branches carved out as spikes swings down to the sound trio. Dosu frowned with annoyance at the simple traps that he pulled out his long sleeve to reveal a metal brace with hole on the back and reaches out his arm to the incoming trap.
The trap suddenly splinters despite Dosu even touching the swinging log as he reduce it to firewood. Sakura widen her eyes in shock, not only by the surprise at how easy destroyed her final trap, but that her final trap failed her and she is now at their mercy.
"Damn it, if I have to fight, then so be it!" said Sakura as she shakes off whatever fear plaguing her being and gets ready to fight.
"Leaf Hurricane!"
Suddenly, unexpectedly no doubt, an ally reveals to save the day. Clad in a green bodysuit, hands wrapped in binding and orange legwarmers over his thighs. Sporting a black bowl cut and thick eyebrows over round eyes, he drops down from above the trees and throws a roundhouse kick at the sound genin.
Sakura was surprised to see Rock Lee, she isn't sure if she should be worried or relieved to see him.
"Sakura-chan, are you ok?" said Rock as he face the opposing trio while a squirrel pop its head from behind.
"L-Lee? Why are you here?"
"I noticed you when I was doing some quick training…" said Lee as he explained himself
(Flashback)
Rock Lee parted from his teammates Neji and Tenten so he can scout the area for potential targets holding one of the 2 scrolls they needed. Rock Lee volunteered as he is quick on his feet and this green bodysuit helps him blend in with the greenery of the forest, plus he is strong enough to fight off dangerous beasts thanks to his years of training with his idol/sensei Maito Gai.
Right now, he looks up on the branches, scanning the area for any targets to attack, not just for the sake of his team's progress in the exam, but to get rid of the prolonged boredom built up inside him when he had no one to fight for hours.
And he knows well he cannot do his usual warmups in a dangerous place like this, for it may leave him wide up open for ambushes.
Damn, not a person on sight, looks like Neji is right…as always. Thought Lee as he sat down on the branch and sigh in disappointment. So, what now? I know we have plenty of time to get another scroll, but when am I gonna get some action.
Suddenly he heard the sound of distress coming down below, he look down to see a struggling squirrel rolling on its back while something on its back is burning. Lee widened his eyes at this and leap down to the ground while jumping off branches until he reached the mossy floor of the forest. He picked up the distressed squirrel and pulled off the burning item off its back. Lee examines the item in question, and he recognised it as a paper bomb. If he left the squirrel for a few more seconds, the bomb would've blown the squirrel up.
"how cruel, who on their right mind would do this?" said Lee as he crumbled the bomb to disarm it. He then pets the poor squirrel to reassure it. "There, there, little one. You are now safe."
Grateful for the rescue, the squirrel scurried all over Lee's arms and shoulders while rubbing its head and bushy tail on his face. Lee chuckled as the whiskers and tail tickled but smiled regardless.
"Now who would do such a cruel thing to you, little one?" said Lee, knowing the fact the squirrel would not understand him, but it wouldn't hurt to ask anyway.
But the squirrel jumped off and scurried off, only to stop when Lee remained still. It turns to stare at Lee and starts gesturing him to follow. Lee starts to understand what the squirrel is intending and starts following the creature.
"Lead the way little one."
(End of Flashback)
"This little one here led me here and now I understand that the one who planted that paper bomb on its back are these 3 fiends" said Lee as he frowned at the Sound trio. "How could you all be cruel to use this poor creature as a weapon."
"It's natural for ninjas to use everything as a weapon to eliminate their target" said Dosu "Animals are no exception, it's easy to lose your guard on something so harmless, and that fact was the perfect opportunity…that is until she had other plans. If it weren't the fact that the squirrel might accidently trigger her traps which are intended for us, then she'd be nothing but a bloody mess in a smoking crater."
Lee frowned at the answer Dosu gave him, although what he said is true that ninja must be creative and resourceful whenever they are on missions, but that doesn't mean Lee agree with it. For some tactics are too cruel and inhumane, not even Gai-sensei would stoop so low to do.
"Be that as it may, I do approve of your tactics." Said Lee
"Who cares what you think!" scoffed Zaku "All that matters is the mission, and our mission is to take the Uchiha down."
"Uchiha?" said Lee before he turns to see the unconscious Sasuke lying under the tree with Sakura. "You even attack those who can't fight?"
"I don't know how you became a genin with thinking like that, but what we are about to is what ninjas do." Said Dosu before he turns to Zaku "we're wasting time, kill them and the Uchiha."
"Got it" said Zaku as he stretch out his palms at Lee and Sakura "Time to die, Zan-"
Zaku however didn't get the chance to use the hole in his palms as he suddenly earn a fist in the stomach from Rock Lee when he swiftly appear in front of him. the impact is like getting a 500g sack of flour thrown at you. Zaku responded from the attack with wind knocked out from his lungs instead of wind blowing out from his palms.
Dosu and Kin (even Sakura) were shocked by Lee's sudden attack and how fast he reached Zaku before he could use the hidden pipes in his palms. Kin turns to snarl at Lee for attacking Zaku and tried to retaliate, but Lee leaps away and returned to where he was before, protecting Sakura and the still unconscious Sasuke with his own body.
"Zaku, are you ok?" said Kin, the only answer she got from her teammate is a violent vomit when he held his sunk in gut which will earn a nasty fist shaped bruise later.
"Damn it, Zaku you left yourself open" said Dosu before he turns to face Lee. "Kin, get out of here and treat the fool's injury while I deal with this bastard myself."
"H-Hai" said Kin as she lifts up Zaku to his feet "are you gonna be alright on your own."
"Hai" said Dosu "In case you fail to notice, I am stronger than Zaku, and more cautious. Now go!"
"H-Hai" said Kin as she left the area with Zaku, Zaku is too much in pain to argue as the punch earned by Lee is too much to handle.
"Just don't kill the Uchiha without us, Zaku will be pissed otherwise" said Kin before heading to the greenery of the forest.
"Hai" said Dosu his lone eye remains fixed to the Green Beast of Konoha. "You should know, I am at another level than Zaku, which is the reason why I lead my team."
"I'm not one to be underestimated here, either" said Lee as he ready himself for combat.
"Glad to hear that" said Dosu as he roll up his long sleeves to reveal his hollow braces and punch his fist in the air.
Lee suddenly reacts as he shove his hand in the ground and pulled out roots of the trees to cover an incoming attack. The invisible attack which Dosu made failed to hit Lee and instead the roots. Lee sighed in relief for his quick thinking, but Sakura was shocked to see the unearthed root was obliterated in thin air.
"I don't know what kind of jutsu you're using, but I will not let you use them against me" said Lee as he then charge at Dosu so he will not let the mummified Oto nin strike a second time.
With Zaku and Kin
Gaining a distance away from the fight so they will not get hit accidently by their team leader, Kin and Zaku tree-hop from branch to branch so they can be far so they the Oto kunoichi can treat her teammate's wound.
Zaku painfully rants in protest as he wants to stay and fight, but his stubbornness only reach deaf ears as Kin carry him away from the fight. Kin is no fool when she know that Dosu will indeed use that trick he literally hid up his sleeves.
After gaining their distance, Kin and Zaku watches Dosu battle against Lee, but knowing their comrade, this battle will not last long for he has the advantage which now everyone would suspect before it is too late.
"I hope that bastard suffers for underestimating us" said Zaku with a cruel smirk while Kin remains stone faced while she watches.
Back with Lee
Lee suddenly collapses on the floor and held his head in pain before he could throw a kick at Dosu, the mummy-like genin smirks under his bandages as he sees the agony on the bushy browed genin's face.
"Agh!" Lee grunted in pain while trying to stand up, but it is not east for his vision is suddenly warped when Dosu appears to be swaying wildly in his vision, as well as his voice when he speaks.
"Strange, isn't it? What you are witnessing is the true power of Oto, the power of sound itself." Said Dosu "You may think I missed, but it's quite the opposite. I got you the moment we started this fight, you just don't know it let until you start to notice."
"Notice...what?" said Lee
"The attack you assumed was a miss was infact caused by emitting inaudabe soundwaves enhanced by my own chakra. Although silent, the soundwaves can still vibrate those tiny bones in your human ear." Said Dosu as he pulls up his long sleeves, so that he can reveal his braves which are riddled with holes. "These braces are designs to emit these soundwaves and disoriant my opponents, causing symptoms such as vertigo, nausea, and tinnitus which follows with acute deafness."
Dosu then casually approach Lee and gives him a hard punch in the face, knocking him down. Lee tries to retaliate, but when he throws a kick at Dosu, the Oto genin blocked it with his own brace, causing it to emit more soundwaves, affecting Lee once more to the point that he clasp over his ears with the hopes to stop them, this only made Dosu laugh.
"It's pointless, the soundwaves will reach the ears before you could have any chance to cover them." Said Dosu before punching Lee aside. "Now move, you're in my way."
"Bastard!" Sakura exclaimed as she tossed some kunai at Dosu, but he easily blocks them with his brace.
"Don't you worry, I didn't forget you" said Dosu as he dangerously leers at Sakura and makes his way towards her. "Now if you don't mind, give us Sasuke Uchiha."
"Y-You'll have to go through me" said Sakura as she pulls out her kunai and held her ground.
"Foolish thing to say, but so be it" said Dosu when suddenly Kin appears behind Sakura, tackling her to the ground and drag her away by her long pink hair.
"We had enough of your insolence, girl" said Kin as she tug Sakura's hair hard so that her head us forced to look up. "Now stay still and we might be merciful"
"That's a maybe, if we're in a good mood" said Zaku with a sadistic smirk while Dosu is about to make his way to kill Sasuke.
Sakura tries to break free but taht only made Kin to yank hard on her hair.
"Hey, stay still, will you!" said Kin "I mean it."
Sakura is starting to cry, she cannot believe how weak she is being now. Angry and shamed at her own incompetance, not to mention failing to protect Sasuke when the threat present itself.
Why am I so weak? Compare to the likes of Hinata and Ino-pig, I am nothing, DAMN IT ALL. Thought Sakura as tears pour down. I'm no kunoichi, I shouldn't be doing this. I am not strong unlike Sasuke and Naruto-kun.
...Naruto-kun
She remembered how determined Naruto is into being a ninja despite the lack of believe and support every should've given him. And even if he did fail 3 times in the academy, he never gave it. And look at him now, he gained his own strength and skills that would almost par with Sasuke's.
No, I shouldn't feel sorry for myself and accept defeat while these bastards come kill Sasuke, now while Naruto makes his way. I need to busy him some time, please hurry Naruto-kun. Thought Sakura as she pulls out a kunai and held it tightly in her hand. I don't know how long I can hold them, but please hurry.
"What's this? You honestly thing you can use that against us, do you?" said Kin as she gave Sakura another tug on her her.
Sakura however looked over her shoulder and smirks at the Oto kunoichi.
"This Kunai...it not for either of you" said Sakura as she then did what the sound trio did not suspect Sakura to do. She reaches out for her long pink hair and slices them off so that she can free herself from Kin's grasp. Kin is surprised by this, which gave Sakura the oppotunity to rummage though her pouch and pulls out a smoke bomb. "This however, is yours"
Sakura slams the smoke bomb on the ground, engulfing her and Kin in a cloud of smoke. Kin is cought off guard and starts to cough and shut her eyes so that the smoke doesn't get in her eyes. Sakura took this change to charge out and confront Zaku and Dosu. She pulls out a flashbomb and tosses it at Dosu while throwing some shuriken at Zaku.
The flashbang blinds Dosu with it's burning white flash, causing him to stagger temporally while Zaku focuses on dodging Sakura's attack.
"Huh, so you've got guts, eh?" said Zaku while he easily dodges the shurikens and retaliates by stretching out his arms at Sakura. "You're either brave or fucking stupid."
"Let's see which one" said Sakura as he starts performing handsigns.
"*scoff* it'll take more than academy grade jutsus to stop me." Said Zaku before performing Zankuha on Sakura. But the ultrasound airwaves didn't hit her, but a clone which she switched via substitution. But Sakura is not yet finished as she appears on view. "Clever bitch, but not clever enough"
Sakura performs her handsigns again, which Zaku scoffs at as he tosses his kunai at her, knowing taht he'll be only hitting not Sakura but a another log via subititution. And he'd be right when the kunai hits the log on sight when Sakura vanished. She appears from above, leaping off the high branches while performing another set of hand signs.
"Seriously, how long can you keep this up, huh?" said Zaku as he toss the kunai at Sakura and looks away he believe Sakura just performed substitution again. "Now, where the hell ar...huh"
Zaku suddenly felt something dripping on his face, it was blood. He looks up to see Sakura diving down towards him.
No fucking way, she pulled a feint on me? Thought Zaku before he was tackled to the ground by Sakura. She sank her teeth into Zaku's arm so that she can hold him in place. "GAH, GET OFF ME, YOU BITCH!"
Sakura however refused as she remains holding her enemy's arm with her teeth. Zaku tries to shake her off but her hold is strong, so he tries to punch her off so that she can release in to exclaim in pain. But No matter how many times he punches her face and head, she would not let go.
The smoke engulfing Kin starts to clear up, giving the Oto kunoichi some room to breath and a fresh field of vision. She looks around for Sakura and sees her pinning Zaku to the ground.
"KIN, GET THIS CRAZY BITCH OFF ME!
"H-Hai" said Kin as she makes her way to assist her teammate. But before she would even reach him, she suddenly stopped halfway as her head and arms hung heavily down to the floor.
Zaku, still trying to get Sakura free, is still waiting for Kin to help. But his paitence is drawing thin and starts yelling at the kunoichi.
"Kin! Are you fucking deaf or what, I said help me"
"And why would I do that?" said Kin
"Zaku is dumbfounded when Kin responded with that answer, even Dosu is after he finally regained his vision and turned his attention to the oto kunoichi. Not only that, but she also pulled out a kunai and tosses it right into Zaku's left shoulder blade, seizing his punches he was giving Sakura so that he can make her let go.
"GAH!"
"KIN, what is the meaning of...of..."
"Dosu?" said Zaku
"I...I can't move" said Dosu as he tries to move his body but somehow he has no control of it. He remains still while struggling to make any movement of his own.
"Whew, it's about time" said Kin as she looks up with a smile. "You all can come out now."
"Suddenly, Choji and Naruto leaps out from above while Shikamaru stays put as he is using his Shadow Possession Jutsu on Dosu to keep him in place. Ino is unconscious and held in Naruto's arms, almost lifeless and not responsive, Naruto smiled at Kin and nods at her, meaning that Kin is under Ino's control.
"Choji, I need you to remove those bracers from that mummy's arms, quickly now" said Shikamaru as he is still holding on with his jutsu stance.
"Got it" said Choji as he quickly heads for Dosu and starts removing his bracers.
"D-Damn you" said Dosu when Choji pulls out the bracers from his arms.
"Got 'em" said Choji
"Good, bring them over" said Shikamaru "Ino, check their pouches for the scrolls"
"Got it" Ino said in Kin's body as she starts checking the Oto kunoichi's pouch, then making her way to Dosu.
"Oh no you don't" said Zaku as he finally tossed Sakura aside and reaches out with his arms to attack the possessed Kin. But suddenly Naruto uses the Juuni-Te and strikes at him as if he were attacked by a bunch of snakes. He jabs at the pain points on Zaku's arms, rendering him incapacitated while holding him with the same long tendrils. "Damn it all!"
"I don't think so, pal" said Naruto with a low frown at the Oto nin.
"Thank you, Naruto-kun" said Ino smiling at her lover while going through Dosu's pouch. "There, we got it"
"It is the right one?" sad Shikamaru
"Hai, it's the one we need" said Ino
"Good" said Shikamaru as he is about to struggle on his hold on Dosu. "You best hurry and knock them out, Naruto"
"Hai" said Naruto as he first knocking Zaku out by jabbing on the correct pain point. Then he makes his way towards Dosu.
Dosu starts to struggle and panic after seeing Naruto easily knock out Zaku. He looks ahead at Naruto and tries to break free from Shikamaru's Shadow Possession Jutsu hold.
Damn it, I will now fail on my mission! Thought Dosu as Naruto begins to approach him, with his Junni-Te still out to assert dominance and intimidation which is very effective. What the hell is this guy? And why does he have those tendrils behind him...and if he can cause pain just be jabbing Zaku...then I don't think I can...
Dosu growled at himself for showing weakness and cowardness.
Pull yourself together, you are a proud shinobi of Oto, trained under the wise (and essentric) teachings of Orochimaru, one of the legendary Sannin. There is NO way this punk can scare me. Thought Dosu as he regained his courage...but little does he know, it won't do him any good. For an ominous presence starts to get everyone's attention.
Seeping out from beneath the tree roots behind Dosu, a dark malevolent aura fumes out, causing not just the Oto nin to feel a sudden chill down his spine, but the others are feeling the chill also. Naruto however suddnely backed away by jumping back a few metres while his Junni-te starts to violently wriggle out of control, and he is has no control of them at all.
"W-What is this?" said Naruto as the look of pure dread starts to show on his face while his the tip of his Junni-Te starts to form hostile clawed hands. Then the amulet around his neck also reacts by glowing pink and getting hot on his chest. "Agh...what's going on."
