starting new fics out of hecking nowhere is a passion
this might not be a weekly thing - i'm not entirely sure just yet - but as of right now, it'll be updated on mondays
uuuh anyways the gist is that Bakugou is killed during a war between the heroes and villains and he ends up taking over the body of Sasuke Uchiha; unfortunately for him, he's never actually *watched* Naruto before, so the only knowledge he has of the show is whatever nonsense Kaminari decided to spew at him
quite honestly, i wrote this fic purely because i thought it'd be funny to see an explosion-wielding sasuke (and for angst, obviously)
i could've always just made him deidara, but 1.), that's not as fun, and 2.), I have no idea how to write deidara or how i'd continue his story if he didn't join the akatsuki, so
(also, i might change the title later - we'll see)
TW: Bakugou swears a lot
The air is thick with the scent of rusted iron, and somewhere, a child cries.
Katsuki takes in a heavy breath - which he immediately regrets upon tasting airy copper on his tongue - and pushes himself upwards - why he was sitting, he has no idea - before spinning around and—
" Shit ," he hisses out, feeling his stomach churn .
The street is lined with bodies - dead, not unconscious, he knows instinctively - and he doesn't doubt that there are many more in the nearby district since, aside from the child's cries - which had since turned into choked-off sobs - the place is eerily - unnaturally - quiet.
With an exhale, Katsuki forces the thoughts from his mind and begins trudging in the direction of the wails, resolve firming with each body his eyes fall upon.
Upon reaching a house with a half-open door - the largest one he's seen thus far, he can't help but notice - and with sobs ringing within, he moves forwards, deliberately allowing his steps to sound out as to not frighten the child inside. The child's breath hitches and, just a moment later, he rounds the corner and feels his blood chill .
His eyes immediately settle upon a little boy - a child that can't be older than nine at the very most - who's wearing blood-stained clothes and who stares up at him with wide, scarlet eyes. A moment later, the color drains out and, as Katsuki stares at terror-stricken coal, he can't help but wonder if he'd imagined what he'd seen.
Katsuki inhales, moving towards the trembling child. He's always been shitty at consoling civilians - always leaving that sort of thing to Deku or Shitty Hair or whoever else was there with him, because none of them could be worse than Katsuki - but he's the only one there - which is an odd circumstance he's already decided to think about later - so he crouches down next to the kid, loosening his posture and giving his best attempt at a non-threatening smile (that, admittedly, probably looks more like an awkward grimace).
"Are you okay?" he asks first, and immediately wants to shoot himself because of course the brat's not okay, because literally the entire goddamn neighborhood is dead or dying, and he's currently sitting next to the bodies of people who, while it's hard to tell with all of the blood, look a little too similar to him to be dismissed as strangers, and who are most likely his very dead parents.
He shakes his head and takes in a breath. "Sorry, stupid question," he says, and then notices that the kid's now looking over his shoulder, face having turn papery white and—
Something that tastes like copper spurts from his lips as a sharp pain shoots through his back and chest, and as he feels his heart slow, he barely has the time to register that he's dying before he's suddenly standing in the doorway once again.
"What the fuck?" he lets out, stumbling forwards. He touches his chest experimentally before glancing at his fingers and he's be-fucking-wildered because there's absolutely no blood at all. "What the fuck ?" he reiterates after a few seconds of silence, then raises his head to look at the kid who, to his even further confusion, isn't there anymore.
Something itches at the back of his mind, but his attention is quickly captured by a cry ringing out into the night. Swearing under his breath, he dashes outside, only to slow his steps because, while he can still smell blood in the air, some of the houses have their lights on and he can see shadows of people moving, running, trying to escape whatever the literal hell this was.
Lips pursed, Katsuki darts towards the nearest person, reaches out, and—
His hand slips right through their shoulder.
He barely has the time to register his own bafflement when he hears another cry pierce the air, and he takes in a breath, running through the people he can't sidestep before coming to a skidding stop, catching sight of the horrified little boy who can only watch as people are massacred around him.
" STOP !" he screams out, then falls to his knees. "Please, please stop! "
Katsuki is by his side in a second, and the boy stumbles backwards in response to his presence, only to gape at him, uncomprehending.
"H-how?"
Katsuki grimaces, figuring that the boy's talking about the fact that he'd somehow been stabbed and brought back to life. Or… something along those lines. "I don't know." He takes in a breath, eyes flicking around the area before returning to the boy. "Do you know who's doing this?"
The boy takes in a sharp breath, looking paler than before, and his mouth opens and closes several times before he finally chokes out a broken, "A-aniki."
Katsuki barely has the time to be surprised before he hears a deadened, "Otouto," from behind him and a sword is once again plunged into his heart. He falls backwards, feeling the breath knocked from his lungs as his body reaches the concrete, and he knows that the boy is looking at him desperately, but he can already feel himself going cold, and—
He's back in the doorway, a curse ready on his tongue.
He's… stuck in some sort of loop, he realizes. Not based on time, but illusionary, otherwise the other people would've reacted to him. And somehow, he got caught up in someone forcing their own brother to watch this .
The itch strengthens.
Katsuki inhales deeply, fingers twitching in his anger, and he darts away from the house and towards where he'd seen the kid before. His heart falls when he sees the empty area, only for him to let out a relieved exhale when his frantic eyes fall upon the boy as he steps out from an alleyway and into the street.
"Kid!" he barks out, and the boy's head snaps upwards, expression filled with a mixture of horror and pure bewilderment. Not that Katsuki's doing any better, but he doesn't have time to think about much aside from their survival - and hopefully, their escape from this hell - and he runs out to meet the boy. He reaches out to grab for his hand, but quickly pulls back when the boy flinches away. It's… a problem, but he supposes it'll be fine to not touch him as long as the kid listens. "Follow me," he says, and although the boy looks wary, he nods resolutely after a moment, and the two take off.
Katsuki and Mystery Boy run through the streets, and it's too slow for the blonde's taste, but he doesn't want to traumatize the kid more, so he forces himself to remain silent as they run through the body-littered streets - most of which, he notices now, have glassy, glowing red which is severely disturbing but not immediately important so he pushes the observation aside for later.
Soon enough, Katsuki spots a forest, and while it's not perfect since he doesn't know his way around this place, it's less likely for the kid's psychopathic brother to spot them when there are towering trees hiding their forms, so he steers them both in its direction without a second thought. The two barely make it a few meters, though, before a form flickers before them, causing Katsuki to skid to a stop and for the kid to nearly faceplant into the ground.
He raises his gaze, a scowl ready on his face, only to freeze when he sees the face of the boy's brother.
He's young . Incredibly so. Not even old enough to go to high school, and definitely not old enough to be able to murder an entire neighborhood of people, or have the fortitude to show this , even if its an illusion. But his eyes - which match those in the bodies, except with lazily spinning shuriken instead of tomoe - are deadened and there are deep marks trailing underneath them - stress lines that have no right in being a face that still has baby fat clinging to its cheeks.
"Nii-san," the boy beside him chokes out, catching Katsuki's attention, " Why ?"
The teen stares at him, an impassive look in his eye that's all sorts of wrong. "I've already told you," he says in a flat voice that causes Katsuki's hair to stand on end, partially because it's so dull , and partially because he's heard this type of voice before - heard it when his classmates were trying so hard to pretend that everything was okay after seeing something particularly traumatizing that they went the extra mile and didn't allow any emotions in their voice at all . "To test my capacity."
Trench Face flickers once again, and in the next moment, his sword is embedded in Katsuki's chest and he can't even curse because blood is bubbling from his mouth, and moments after he hears the child cry out once again, he's back in the doorway.
There's something… wrong about this whole situation.
The older brother seems like a kid with a powerful quirk who just snapped . Who decided to either kill everyone or make his little brother think he killed everyone, for one reason or another. But it doesn't make any sense to him, no matter how much evidence he's presented, because that kid is probably thirteen max , and he's trying way too hard to appear unaffected - enough that it seems almost artificial, rather than him being unfeeling about the whole thing.
It doesn't really matter, though. Whether or not the kid wants to do this or not doesn't matter , because he's torturing his little brother nonetheless, and Katsuki is not going to sit by and let that happen.
With an intake of breath, he moves the same way he had before, except instead of turning towards the forest, he takes the kid in the entirely opposite direction.
Then he looks down as he suddenly stumbles forwards to see a sword sticking through his chest.
Fuck .
The boy screams, and Katsuki lets out a wet cough. "Don't worry, kid," he murmurs through the coppery taste in his mouth, "I've felt worse."
"Otouto," he hears again through static-filled ears, and he barely even registers being in the doorway before he's off like a shot.
This time, he goes back to the forest, and before either brother can do anything, he steps forward, eyes hard.
"What the fuck are you doing ?" he bites out, only to have to leap to the side when the sword is jammed in his direction. Again, and again, and again. " Stop , damn it!" he snarls, jerking his head upwards to meet scarlet eyes.
He startles upon seeing the muted - but still recognizable, since he's known people like Icy Hot for a good while now - confusion that flickers across the teen's face. Trench Face's eye twitches and his face smooths out as if he'd been reset , and suddenly, it's as if he's looking through Katsuki instead of at him.
"What the fu—" he starts, only to be cut off by another fucking sword being jammed through his chest. It might've been impressive how he'd been stabbed in the same goddamn place every time if he weren't so pissed , but he is , so he spits out a glob of blood at the teen out of spite before appearing once again in the doorway.
Katsuki growls, and this time as he comes to a stop in front of the kid, his jaw tenses. "I'm carrying you," he says simply, and the kid jerks backwards, shaking his head rapidly.
"No, no . Just leave. Just stop ."
The blonde inhales and forces his body to loosen. "It's too late for me to just stop," he says instead of shouting like he wants to. "I'm already here. He'll kill me no matter what."
The boy flinches backwards, but seconds after hesitantly meeting Katsuki's gaze, he gives an imperceptible nod.
The blonde takes a breath and steps forward. "Right," he says, reaching out for the kid, "Let's—"
Sasuke stumbles forwards and he feels his mind warp . He feels like he's been struck by lightning, with too-short limbs flailing out awkwardly as memories slam into his head one after the other, and all he can do is brace himself before he hits the ground.
Before he even has the time to comprehend what the hell is going on, Trench Face - Itachi, nii-san , a childish voice in his head supplies - speaks. "If you attain these eyes, you will become the third person including myself to utilize the Mangekyou Sharingan. However… at present, you are not worth killing." Sasuke raises his gaze, barely able to keep himself from flinching backwards as he meets the teen's dark, impassive gaze. "One day, when you have the same eyes as I do…" His eyes bleed red, and black spills into scarlet to form a shuriken-like shape. "Come and stand before me."
Itachi bursts into a flock of crows, and—
The boy's brain turns to static, and his eyes burn as the itch becomes unbearable.
Oh , he thinks distantly, mind flashing with images of an explosion of blood as he feels a heavy, phantom pain bloom in his stomach, I died .
—Sasuke - Katsuki - falls to the ground, unconscious.
so if you couldn't tell
this is going to have a lot of angst
but also a lot of mild crack because bakugou is a menace to society
and even some fluff, when team 7 comes into play
(woo, all of the things)
uuuuh okay,
sorry if bakugou is ooc at all, but i think(?) i did an alright job at getting his personality down? granted, he has a little extra trauma, but that happens when you've just gotten killed in a war and proceeded to get killed repeatedly afterwards by some random, red-eyed kid ;,D
aaand:
I kinda wanted to have Bakugou *born* as Sasuke and like, stop the massacre (and be traumatized by Shisui because wOW he's a lot like Kirishima), but it just... wasn't working out. I mean, as I'm writing this I kinda just wanna scrap everything and have Bakugou fix everything with the power of anger issues, but egh, i don't know how i'd go about that at all... maybe i'll write a long one shot later, or something along those lines
anyways
Thanks for reading!
