Missing/Tag scene to S10E3 Soul Survivor. "I'm just gonna grab my brother some cholesterol, and then I'm gonna get drunk." After saving Dean, Sam comes back to the Bunker with fast food and groceries.

Everyone's moved on, everyone that is, except Dean. He can't give up hunting, but at the same time, hunting just isn't what it once was. Left feeling angry, hurt, and tired, he realizes exactly what it is he's truly missing - and it's something he knows he'll never be able to have. So he makes a deal with a djinn for just a taste of it back [tw suicidal ideation/thoughts]

Each sob was a puppeteer pulling every string of muscle down the front of him tight, involuntarily lifting his knees off the covers. Dean didn't know how long it took, but the storm's onslaught subsided. When he could spare awareness, he found himself afloat on the sea of an emotion so vast he knew there was no end to it. He was off the edge of the map he used to define himself.

Dean Winchester retired from hunting for six quiet years. He built as quiet a life as he knew how while Cas remained absent, abandoning him for heaven. But now, six years later, Cas is asking to stay. Hesitantly, Dean accepts. His life may have drastically changed since Cas left, but he has missed the angel. But Cas arrives with bitter news, more unrest in heaven.

Sam and Cas have a plan to bring Dean, literally, out of his head, but Michael is ready for them and once they enter Dean's mind, they quickly realize they're in Michael's playground and Dean has been hiding things...things that even Sam didn't know. (mentions of abuse, flashbacks).

AU version of the pilot – Hurt Sam, Big Brother Dean – Dean presses the phone tighter against his ear, listening. Someone is breathing in that shallow way that often indicates pain or fear...or both. Instinct tells him it's his little brother.
