"Naya!" Amber yelled frantically rushing over to her friend. Ryan and Brad turned urgently and ran over.
"Naya, can you hear us, did someone get Heather?!" Ryan shouted.
"I'll go!" Jenna yelled as she dashed out of the room as fast as she could.
Stay with us, Nay! Brad call 911!" Ryan yelled desperately
Heather, Harry, and Zack were in the tin shed running through the choreography they had just come up with when the large metal door burst open causing a loud echo to ensue to the large room. Jenna frantically scrambled into the room completely out of breath and crying.
"Heather!" Jenna yelled deliriously.
"Jenna? Are you okay?" Heather and Harry rushed over quickly growing increasingly concerned about their friend's frenzied state.
"Heather hurry...Naya...choir room..." Jenna gasped out starting to sob as she had no idea what was wrong with Naya and was completely overwhelmed trying to get her words out. As soon as Heather heard her wife's name she was out the door before the other two could say another word. Jenna and Harry ran out after her.
Heather was sprinting to the choir room set which was across the lot. It's one of those moments in life that just happens. She was no idea how her legs are moving, the last thing she remembered was Jenna running into the tin shed and then saying her wife's name, everything after that was a complete blur.
Heather was running across the lot earning a few perplexed looks from various people who worked on the lot. She wasn't paying attention to anything around her, the only thing Heather was focused on was getting to Naya. She had no idea what the hell happened. She didn't give Jenna any time to explain. Meanwhile, Heather's mind was a jumbled mess of negative thoughts. Flashes of worst-case scenarios going through her mind. Why didn't she force Naya to stay home? Why didn't they both stay home? Why did Heather leave her earlier? Heather was starting to beat herself up internally for all the things she should have done differently. Heather didn't realize she was crying until she tasted the saltwater on her lips. The thought of anything happening to Naya or her daughter was something she couldn't allow her mind to go to, she couldn't, she had to be strong for her wife right now.
Heather was approaching the door to the studio when she tossed it open and ran around every roadblock, prop, or piece of furniture that seemed to get in her way. The second they approached the room she saw everyone gathered around Naya on the floor. Naya was finally starting to regain consciousness.
"Mhmneehea.." Naya attempted to mumble out, her words blending together. Just like she did when she was overly tired. The only one who was able to decipher her sleepy language was Heather.
"I'm here, beautiful! I'm right here." Heather rushed out and ran to her wife. Amber was holding her hand and rubbing her arm soothingly. Chris had her head in his lap since he was one of the people who caught her before her head could hit the ground. Diana and Kevin promptly got up off the ground to allow Heather room to be beside her wife.
"NeeeHeathe..." Naya mumbles again but this time it was slightly more understandable.
"She's right here honey," Amber says and points to Heather who was sinking down next to Naya just as Jenna and Harry ran in.
"Sweetheart I'm right here. Don't be scared. I've got you." Heather told Naya while she brushed the hair out of her face. Naya fluttered her eyes open and several tears fell out breaking everyone's hearts.
"Please hold me." Naya cried out and immediately and very carefully Heather repositioned and leaned against the wall and put one arm around Naya's legs and the other slid behind her back and lifted her wife into her lap. She laid her sideways so she could cuddle into her. Heather wrapped her arms around her wife tightly and pressed kisses all over her face.
"I've got you. I've got you now, love. I'm not going anywhere. I love you both so much." Heather said quickly continuing to caress Naya's face and plant kisses against her warm caramel skin.
"Hemo we called for an ambulance, they should be here any minute," Ryan said trying to remain calm in front of the kids.
"My ch..chest hurts. Hmmm." Naya says
Heather places a hand over her wife's chest. Her heartbeat felt pretty regular. Her skin was pretty warm though so she could tell she had a fever.
"I'll make sure your alright my love, you know I will. Are you feeling the baby move?" Heather asked gently but urgently because she needed to know.
Naya frantically looks down at her large belly and starts sobbing making everyone worried once again.
"I haven't felt her since it happened! Oh my god, why can't I feel her, Heather!" Naya screamed out. Everyone's eyes were teary and completely overwhelmed as they heard the fear in Naya's voice.
Heather squints her eyes open and closed trying desperately not to panic. That's the last thing Naya needs to see or hear is Heather panicking. She wills away the desire to sob right then there and adjusts Naya ever so slightly to allow both of her hands to reach her wife's belly. Heather presses gently in a few areas before speaking to her daughter. Nayas muffled sobs can be heard against her chest.
"Wake up angel. Momma's back! You should have been in rehearsals with me. You would have loved it! Can you show us how you dance?" Heather pleaded lovingly.
Everyone let out a small gasp when they saw the clear imprint of a little foot push against the skin of her abdomen. Heather ticked right where the foot had just gone back in and was now rolling around.
"Oh god. I felt her. I felt that." Naya says taking a deep breath and laying her head back completely tilting her head towards the ceiling. "Oh thank God."
"Good job my angel! Thank you for showing momma your dancing. It's fun to have people watch you dance! You got quite the audience here now little love. Everyone here loves you and mami so much." Heather pauses when the baby rolls and presses their foot against Naya's abdomen once again. "I know, sweetheart, I love you too. Thanks for saying hello, we needed to know you were alright." Heather tells her unborn daughter.
Paramedics arrived about eight minutes after they were called. Heather rapidly stands cradling her heavily pregnant Naya in her arms and they instruct her to lay her on the gurney.
"No, no! Please don't let me go!" Naya rushes out.
"Honey, they have to check you out. I'll be right here. I won't leave your side. I can promise you that." Heather reaffirmed to her frantic wife.
"No please!" Naya cries
"Look I don't want her getting more upset than she already is. I have to keep her calm. Let me carry her." Heather started tightening her hold on her wife instinctually.
"Alright let's go." The paramedic says as he instructs Heather to follow him to the waiting ambulance. They load the empty gurney onto the vehicle and once Heather walks up the ramp with Naya in her arms she lays her down on the bed immediately taking her hands and kissing her face while they secure her in place. Their friends are yelling that they will meet them at the hospital just as the doors shut.
The ride to the hospital was scary. Both of their minds were in overdrive. Heather was just doing her best to be the rock that Naya needs her to be. Her wife and baby girl need her and she'll be damned to let them down again.
Heather was seated and buckled herself in the seat across from where Naya was laying on the gurney. Heather never let go of her wife's hand since they left the choir room. She's currently drawing shapes on Naya's palm for her to guess, attempting to keep her alert and distracted.
"Hmm, a heart?" Naya answers as Heather made the shape of a heart with her finger on her palm.
"That's right my love. Now I'm going to add something to it." Heather replied. She drew the shape of a heart again and this time drew an arrow going through it.
"Is that Cupid?" Naya managed to smile tiredly.
"You're a genius beautiful," Heather replied.
Once they pulled up the hospital 10 minutes after leaving the studio, Heather swiftly unbuckles her seatbelt and stood, still having a firm grasp on Naya's right hand. A paramedic opens the back of the ambulance and pulls the gurney out and another guy helps Heather as she jumps out of the back.
They rush Naya inside and the nurses come already expecting the patient. They do a quick physical exam taking her pulse and checking her pupil dilation before looking at Heather and telling her they'll take her back and keep her updated.
"No! She's not leaving!" Naya cried out frantic.
"Ma'am we have to take you ba..." the nurse replied
"No, she's coming with me. She's not leaving!" Naya cried but was stern in her request.
Heather had enough. They were wasting so much time when they could have been back with her already. They were going to let Heather in a few minutes anyway so why the hell not now. At this point, she was frustrated and her protective impulses were in full force.
"I'm not leaving her. She's pregnant and upset. She was just in a stressful situation. Do not tell me to leave my wife and baby because I won't. Let's go back now. We could have gotten her checked already." Heather rants.
Naya looks at her with the smallest smile she can manage. As Heather securely takes her hand and they walk through the corridor.
As they enter the exam room a group of 5 nurses transfers Naya from the gurney to the hospital bed. Heather was forced to let go of Naya's hand as the nurses gathered to perform every vital exam. Naya for the most part just stared at Heather off to the side who kept mouthing comforting words to keep her calm. Naya was craving contact with her wife. Once all the nurses left but two, Heather was able to come back over and sit next to Naya while the nurse gave her an IV.
"Hi, Beautiful, how are you feeling right now?" Heather asks sitting on the edge of the bed brushing some hair out of her wife's face.
"Extremely tired. Chest still burns and feels kinda raspy." Naya said.
Heather looked at the nurse who was jotting down notes on her chart while looking through the computer when Heather speaks up.
"What do you think could be causing the burning feeling? It can't be all heartburn, can it?" Heather asks the nurse who smiles at the girl's concern.
"We have already sent in a test to check for pneumonia, bronchitis, and other bacterial and viral infections since that's what the doctor is almost certain she has. Any one of those can cause increased heartburn, especially in pregnant women. We should have the tests back shortly and when we know for certain what we're dealing with we will give her the correct medication and keep an eye on her." the nurse informed.
"Alright. What about the dizziness, and fainting?" Heather asks concern still lacing her voice. She wanted to make sure they checked for everything possible and didn't leave anything out.
"Naya mentioned she didn't eat today at all since the heartburn was causing her so much discomfort. More than likely that was the main cause. If you don't eat when you are pregnant your blood sugar levels will drop dramatically. That combined with whatever viral or bacterial infection was almost positive she has is what caused the fainting. The IV will help in the meantime, and as I said, the results for the tests should be ready in a few minutes. We will get her started on medication right away." the nurse replied
"The baby is..." Heather asked and was halted by the nurse speaking up again before Heather let herself get too frazzled.
"The baby is absolutely fine, I paged Dr. Laine, who is your OBGYN and she will do an emergency ultrasound just to double-check everything. She should be up within the next 15 minutes. As of right now, we don't see any cause for concern." the nurse stated with a smile.
"Alright, sorry for all the questions. My mind is on overdrive." Heather said apologetically.
"Don't be sorry. I'm here for a reason. We will figure it out. There is definitely some viruses going around, it's that time of year and pregnant woman can be more prone to catching things like this." the nurse assured.
"Thank you for everything," Heather said quietly.
"Absolutely, Heather. I am going to go check on those tests for you. I will be back in a few." the nurse says as she leaves the room.
The cast were all gathered in the private waiting room which they requested. Being public figures in a hospital was a paparazzi's dream and they knew someone, somewhere would attempt to take a photo. They wanted to keep this under the radar.
They all took a seat on chairs that were surrounding the wall. their friends were all a mix of anxious, jittery, sobbing, and the ones that were trying to be tough but you could tell they were a nervous wreck.
"If something happens to Naya or that baby, Hemo will..." Lea says but is cut off when Diana speaks up.
"Nothing will happen to them. It can't. We won't let it!" Diana said loudly leaning back in her chair bringing her knees to her chest and holding them to her body.
"It's not really up to us, Di," Mark says as he sits in the chair with his elbows on his knees and his chin resting on his hands which are balled together in a fist.
Their ramblings were interrupted when Amber's phone chimed and everyone ignored assuming it was a random text message until she announced who it was from.
"Guys it's from Hemo..." Amber said to the group causing them all to look up or stand up eagerly.
"Read it, Amber," Chris said impatiently.
The nurse said you guys can come in the room now. please don't ask Naya any questions, I will explain everything. I don't want her to feel overwhelmed but she wants to see you guys. Room #308
After Amber reads out the text to the group and they all stand up and leave the room wanting to see their friends.
"Alright I texted them, baby, I'm sure they'll be here soon," Heather said while setting her phone down on the table beside the bed.
"Please sit with me, baby." Naya pleaded with a pout and that was all it took for Heather to get up off the chair and sit down on the bed taking Naya's hands in her own.
"How's this baby?" Heather asked
"You're not close enough," Naya says shaking her head. Heather smiles and lifts the top cover that Naya's under and slides onto the bed. Heather snakes an arm behind her wife's back and another rests on the top of her round belly tickling and gently rubbing the soft skin just like Naya likes. Naya lens over and rests her head on Heather's chest as she cuddles into her while still being mindful of the Iv in her right arm. Heather is humming softly near Naya's ear nearly lulling her right to sleep while continuing to move her hand around her stomach.
The door to the room opens and Kevin, Chris, Harry, Chord, Diana, Lea, Jenna, Harry, Mark, Vanessa, Amber, and Cory all walk in quietly. Naya was just about to fall asleep when she heard the commotion and fluttered her eyes open to reveal her friends. Heather pressed a finger to her lips and then curled her finger motioning for them to come in. She didn't want them to bombard her with questions or become frantic and get Naya all riled up once again. Naya and the baby were calm right now and she wanted to keep it that way.
"How are my girls?" Amber asked giving Naya and Heather's feet a gentle squeeze over the covers they were under.
"Well, Naya has bronchitis which explains why her chest was hurting so much and the antacids weren't helping. She also didn't eat today which caused her blood sugar to dip and that made her lightheaded. She's on medication now for bronchitis which was also adding to her fatigue. She's on the mend guys, I know you were concerned. She's okay, I promise." Heather says
"The baby?" Kevin says
"She's perfect," Heather says while her right hand is propping her up lightly and massaging her wife's head and her other hand is rubbing her wife's belly in various soothing patterns. Naya is completely content now that her wife is close.
Jenna simply points to Naya and smiles adoringly as she sees her friend's eyes close and let out a soft sigh with a smile. A few of the others smile as well, happy to see their friend completely relaxed after their traumatic afternoon.
"We should leave you..." Chord speaks up motioning to the sleeping girl on the bed. Heather shakes her head.
"You don't have to. Stay, honestly. Take a seat, unless, of course, you want to get out of here or need to be somewhere else then by all means, but don't leave on our account. Just don't shout and we'll be fine. I'm sure Naya would rather listen to the sounds of our voices rather than the beeping machines. They aren't exactly white noise." Heather says causing the crew to let out a small giggle.
Naya continued to sleep on Heather's shoulder. Heather never stopped caressing her head and kept her hand on Naya's belly protectively.
"Are you ok Heather?" Cory asked making the others glance upward.
"What do you mean?" Heather asked in return.
"Everyones been asking how Naya is, but how are you doing? I know you were scared shitless today." Cory finished giving her a sympathetic look.
"Cory, I don't ever think I've been so terrified in my life. My entire world is on this bed right here." Heather said causing the group to smile between her and Naya. "I'm trying not to blame myself but..." Heather added with her head hanging down.
"Heather, what on earth are you talking about?" Amber asked immediately.
"Amber, I should have made her stay home today. I should have just stayed home with her but she convinced me to go to work and then wanted to come with me. Then I came to see her at lunch and I left her again. If I hadn't left I would have been there and..." Heather rambles
"Oh girl, don't you go there. I won't let you go there. What happened would have happened no matter where you were. You got to her so quickly, much quicker than if she were to be at home and you down at the studio. You are not to blame for anything. It was just a couple of things piled up and now she's getting the meds she needs. It's nobody's fault. You understand that?" Amber said firmly.
"Yeah, Thank you for saying that Amber. It's just hard not to blame myself. They're just...everything to me, you know?" Heather says looking between her wife and the round bump where she feels her daughter waking up.
"Oh no, you don't little miss. Mami is finally getting some rest." Heather says while caressing the belly where her daughter is rolling around. "No dancing right now sweetheart. You can play in just a little bit, give mami a little bit longer. Here, baby, I'll sing your song.
"And I love you, I love you, I love you, like never before...
Heather finishes and the rolling and kicking stopped until it was just tiny taps and soon went completely still. Heather kissed her hand and tapped the bump since she was holding Naya and couldn't bend over far enough to kiss her belly.
"Heather, seriously, where do we find boyfriends and girlfriends like you?" Vanessa asked
"What are you even talking about?" Heather asked with a chuckle.
"You, the way you treat her like she's fine china or the freaking queen. I can barely get a dude to open the restaurant door for me!" Diana huffs agreeing with Vanessa
"Guys I don't even know. I just treat her like she or any other woman deserves. I guess I don't even think about it. I really don't know what else to tell you. She's the love of my life, the mother of my babies, my whole world revolves around her. Soon it will revolve around her and my baby girl. How could I treat her any other way?" Heather questions looking at her friends.
The nurse walks in and smiles seeing the friends all gathered together and smiles once again seeing Heather and Naya cuddled together.
"How's she feeling? Has she complained of any pain or burning since I was here last?" the nurse asked Heather.
"No, she hasn't. I'll be sure to ask her right when she wakes up. It can't be too bad at the moment since she seems very content right now. I can always see it on her face if she's uncomfortable." Heather replies, earning a nod and smile from the nurse who takes notes of Naya's vitals in her chart and closes it back up and leaves the room.
The girls were still at the hospital, the boys decided to leave and come back in the morning. The nurse figured she would be able to be discharged around noon the next day if everything went well overnight. Naya was still sound asleep. It had been about 45 minutes since her friends all came into the room and Heather knew how exhausted she was. She had called both of their families while Naya was asleep to fill them in and assure them there was no need to come and they were being sent home tomorrow. Staying overnight was simply routine since she was pregnant. Once she managed to convince both mothers that Naya would be alright and they could facetime them together tomorrow, they said their goodbyes, and Heather refocused her attention on her friends.
"Heather where's your purse? Give me your house key and I'll grab you both some comfy clothes and toothbrushes, along with anything else you both may need overnight." Amber said sitting up and stretching.
"Oh god, I didn't even think about any of that stuff. My mind is so fried." Heather responds bringing the heel of her hand to her forehead and rubbing it slightly.
"And that's exactly why I'm going to go for you. You need to be with Naya. Besides she's a Koala bear these days and I doubt she will let you move." Amber says while letting out a throaty chuckle. Naya proves Amber's point perfectly by subconsciously pulling Heather closer to her in her sleep causing everyone in the room to giggle and Heather just smiles and places a kiss on her head.
"Yeah, she's definitely my little cuddle bear." Heather replies
"You both are ridiculous" Lea says with a giggle
"Alright girl, keys?" Amber reiterated.
"In my purse. Gold hoop keychain." Heather replied.
Amber jingles the keys and grabs her sweatshirt. "What did you want me to bring?" Amber asked
"Could you maybe pack a pair of sweatpants and shorts for Naya? It varies depending on if she's hot or cold that night. Then toothbrushes, phone chargers, and we should be good with that since we're only going to be here one night." Heather replies. Amber nods and moves to the door.
"Amber. Thank you. For everything." Heather smiles at her sincerely.
"What are friends for?" Amber winks and leaves the room.
The girls had left about two hours ago after Amber had returned with a tote bag full of their belongings. Amber included a change of clothes, toiletries, iPad, chargers, and even a couple of bags of crackers and protein bars. Heather shakes her head because Amber was a godsend.
Naya had slept the entire time. She was exhausted. Heather didn't make any attempt to wake her up and always motioned for the nurses to remain quiet when they came in.
Naya was just starting to stir when The baby started waking up. Naya smiles down at her belly and pressed her hands against it just happy to feel anything from the little life growing inside her after the scary day they had.
"Hey beautiful, are you waking up sweetheart?" Heather asks quietly while setting her phone on the table to the left of her and rubbing up and down her wife's arm.
"Hey, baby. How long have I been asleep for?" Naya asks while yawning and sitting up slightly.
"About three hours," Heather responded causing Naya to open her eyes widely.
"Why didn't you wake me up? I barely spoke to our friends. I feel so bad they came to see me and I slept the whole time." Naya sighed
"Sweetheart, the last thing you need to do is feel bad about anything. Everyone completely understands. If they didn't I would have kicked their ass to Mexico." Heather said making Naya laugh and resting her head on her shoulder.
"I wouldn't mind getting out of these set clothes though. Their not exactly lounging material. I know you would feel better in comfy clothes as well." Heather said
"Heather we don't have anything. He rushed here in an ambulance..." Naya reminded
"Amber took our keys and brought us that tote bag full of clothes, toothbrushes, chargers, and even some snacks for you," Heather said pointing to the purple bag off to the side. Naya simply shook her head. They truly had the most amazing friends. Amber particularly has been amazing since Naya's been pregnant.
"She's awesome. I'll have to text her and thank her in a minute. Would you mind helping me change?" Naya asked shyly.
"Hey what's that face for?" Heather tilted Naya's chin up until she was looking into her dark chocolate eyes.
"I should be able to get dressed by myself. It's needy and pathe..." Naya was quickly halted
"Absolutely not. Naya, let me help you baby. I know you are independent, that's never been a question, but it's ok to need help too. I'm always here for you." Heather insisted. She got up off the bed slowly and walked over to the purple tote bag that Amber brought.
"My love, do you want your sweatpants or shorts?" Heather asked pulling the clothes out.
"She brought both?" Naya questioned with a smile.
"Yeah, I mentioned you switch it up depending on whether you are hot or cold that night," Heather said looking back at her wife so was sitting up on the bed.
"Pants tonight. It's pretty cold in here." Naya said
"You got it, love," Heather said bringing the pants and shirt over for her wife and draping them over her shoulder. "Let's stand up and go to the bathroom, love. Our luck one of the male nurses will come in and I'll be damned if they get a free show." Heather stated matter of factly. Naya giggles and allows Heather to grab her arms and help her up. They walk slowly to the bathroom and close the door behind them.
"Alright love, turn around and I'll unzip this," Heather said while pulling down the zipper and shimmying the dress down, not exactly thrilled with how tight it was hugging around her wife's midsection. She finally shimmied it all the way down, Naya placing her hands on Heather's shoulders to stabilize her. Heather replaces the dress with comfy sweatpants pulling them up so they sit just under Naya's belly. She gets up from her position kneeling on the floor kissing Naya's bare belly on the way up before taking the shirt that's draped over her shoulder and pulling it down over her wife's head and arms.
"Do you feel better, beautiful?" Heather asked while kissing her wife between the eyes.
"So much better. I just wish we were home snuggling in our bed. This isn't how I thought this day would end up..." Naya sighs
"This day could have ended up a million times worse. Every nightmare in my mind played out as I was running to you Naya. Every single fear and worst nightmare had gone through my mind today. I just couldn't handle it... if you had...if she..." Heather started to stammer emotionally.
"Hey, baby, come here!" Naya says pulling her crying wife in her arms. "I'm okay now. Our little girl is okay. I'm so sorry I scared you. I should have just listened to you in the first place and stayed home. I'm just stubborn but I put myself and most importantly my baby girl at risk because of it. I'm so sorry I didn't listen to you." Naya said while hugging her wife tightly.
"It's not important anymore who didn't listen to who. I had my whole moment earlier and Amber talked me through it. Now I'm going to talk to you the same way. Do not blame yourself, accidents happen, thank God it ended how it did. We're all there and we're all safe and sound. I love you so much Naya." Heather says looking straight into her brown eyes.
"Love you more baby. We both love you so damn much." Naya responded as the baby kicked between them making both of them separate and let out a breathy giggle.
"Are you going to show us your dance moves baby girl?" Heather says placing both hands on each side towards the bottom of her belly.
Naya smiles at Heather. Before they walk back into the main room and Heather settles Naya into bed.
"Oh, love, Ryan called me a few minutes ago. I'm going to call him back quick alright? I'm not sure if any of the group filled him in since they've seen you." Heather said looking at her wife.
"Sure baby. I want to text Amber and have some messages from our moms I need to reply to before they start to send smoke signals." Naya said rolling her eyes.
Heather laughs and shakes her head. "That sounds about right. You really never know with those two. You go do that and I'll talk to Ryan." Heather says before going to the corner of the room in one of the armchairs to call her boss.
Naya is sitting on the bed going through all her messages. First, she decides to message Amber.
Outgoing Naya: Thank you again for bringing us our things from home. You're an amazing friend. You've been there for me so many times. We love you girl. P.S. I'm sorry I slept the whole time you were here.
Incoming Amber: Girl, of course! You need me I'm there. We're family. I love you both and that little girl. Also don't apologize for sleeping while you are in the hospital. xx.
As soon as she hits send on the text to Amber the baby starts moving around like crazy in her belly. Feet, hands, elbows are protruding from her belly and she quickly gets out her phone to record it lowering the angle slightly so you could get the full effect. Naya would press on a spot and the baby would kick right back. It looked crazy from the outside. Heather looks over questioningly when she sees Naya recording something. She just got off the phone with Ryan after giving him the latest update with Naya.
"Baby get over here!" Naya says happily motioning to her belly. The only way I can describe it is it looked like there was a fighting octopus in there.
"Oh my god! Dance baby girl!" Heather laughs while pressing on different spots like Naya was doing making the baby move and follow her momma's hand.
"She's crazy tonight," Naya said completely captivated by her unborn daughter.
"She's going to be so beautiful, just like you. I can't wait to see what she looks like." Heather said excitedly.
"She will be our perfect little girl in every way. Heather, I'm so excited." Naya said with a smile.
"I am too. More than you know." Heather replied.
"We should probably get ready for bed. I'm sure we will get woken up during the night so they can do something annoying. I just want to sleep so we can get home faster." Naya said as her wife climbed into their bed. It was a tight squeeze in the twin-sized hospital bed, but they always cuddled close anyway so it was fine.
"I've got you, my love, go to sleep beautiful. Goodnight my littlest love" Heather says while placing a kiss on Naya's belly and then on her lips. Heather pulls her wife as close as possible and they cuddle and talk until sleep overtakes them both.
The following morning they were woken up bright and early when the nurse came in to do her rounds and check Naya's vitals. They concluded that she was ready to go home and didn't have to wait until afternoon like they originally thought. When Heather heard this she decided to text one of her friends to see if someone could drive them back to their house since they didn't have their car.
Outgoing Heather: Hey Amber! Any chance you would be able to come to pick up me and Naya in the next half hour or so? She's being discharged early. We just need a ride home. Don't worry if you can't I can give one of the others a call.
Incoming Amber: Stop rambling, I got you, girl. Be there in 20. Text me when you are in the lobby and I'll pull up.
Outgoing Heather: You're the best ever.
Incoming Amber: Don't I know it.
"Amber's on her way here, love. Is everything back in our bag? Do you have your phone charger and everything?" Heather asked while looking around the room to gather all of their belongings not wanting to leave anything behind.
"Check and check," Naya replied.
"How do you feel this morning, beautiful?" Heather asked wrapping her arms around Naya from behind as she folds her dress from the previous day and puts it in the tote bag that Amber brought.
"Compared to yesterday, I feel great. Obviously, my chest is still bugging me but that's from the bronchitis. I just took my medicine for the day so it should kick in very soon." Naya said holding Heather's arms that are wrapped around her midsection.
"I'm so grateful you're both ok. You have absolutely no idea how scared I was." Heather says placing a kiss in the crook of Naya's neck and shoulder making her shiver.
"I'm so sorry I scared you, baby. I'll remind myself to listen to my beautiful wife from now on. She clearly knows me better than I do." Naya jokes but notices her wife's troubled face and brings Heather in for a long kiss. "Hey, baby, we're both ok." Naya reiterated.
"I know you are. I just don't know what I would have done. I just love you both more than anything in this world, Naya." Heather said trying to convince herself Naya and her baby were in fact, ok."
"We know you love us, I love you more than anything too. How about we head home and cuddle all day?" Naya asked
"Sounds like the perfect day to me." Heather smiled and kissed the love of her life.
Amber had just dropped the girls off and made sure to let them know she was just a phone call or text away. The girls agreed and gave her a big hug before waving and watching their friend drive off.
The girls unlocked the front door and set their bags down in the entryway, Heather placing their house key in the glass bowl on the table. Naya went straight to the couch and plopped down leaning her head all the way back so she was staring at the ceiling. It felt so good to be in her own home. Heather came in and joined her wife on the couch.
"What would you like to do first, beautiful? I want you to relax so you name it and I'll do it." Heather says looking at her wife who looked deep in thought.
"Can we take a nap in our bed? I missed it last night and those nurses come in all the damn time so I hardly got any sleep." Naya stated, her eyes already beginning to flutter closed.
"If my wife and baby want to nap then that's what we'll do," Heather says sitting up from the couch and leaning over the couch picking up her wife and gently carrying her to the bedroom.
Heather laid Naya on the bed and shimmied the covers down around her until she was able to cover Naya completely. She sank down in the bed next to her wife and pulled her close placing a kiss on her lips.
"Have a good rest my loves," Heather says bringing Naya impossibly closer while their daughter was completely surrounded and protected by her mothers.
