Being a member of the Meta Liberation Army, he knew that the strong took whatever they wanted, so Shigaraki's victory over the army didn't really bother him too much, despite being a little irritated that the army couldn't beat what was essentially a gang of nobodies at that point.
And the fact that he was killed in Shigaraki's final(?) decay wave, where the battle was practically finished at that point, making his death almost irrelevant, abandoned by all of his comrades because he was too weak to engage Dabi in combat and had to retreat closer to the grand commander.
So, there he was, sitting in the void, body intact, probably in hell for his questionable beliefs, and patiently thinking of all his life decisions.
…I wonder, did Destro see this sight? Or maybe… he was more pure then the rest of us, and saw a much better sight than the endless void that gazes at me?
Well, regardless, this was his fate…
You have been randomly chosen for Fair and Balanced Incorporated's 4.0 PvP system. Do you accept?
…Or perhaps not.
It took the form of some kind of… holographic screen, similar to what one might find in a game… Although he doesn't play many of those.
Hm, I think holographs were used in official announcements, but then again, he didn't pay too much attention to those and just listened to everyone else talk about those.
Well, my life aside, it seems as if I've been granted an offer.
Still… a PvP system? Even with my limited terminology, I know that indicates some fighting…
I suppose at this point, there's no other option, is there? As a member of the MLA, I'm used to fighting people, this shouldn't be any different, mysterious offerings coming from some sort of god or not.
"I accept your offer… Fair and Balanced Incorporated," I said, grimly marching towards the path where this'll lead me.
You have accepted the offer.
Now, please agree to the contract.
All of my actions done in the FaBI PvP system are of my own will, and none of it will be blamed on my superiors. Attempting to blame someone else for my own shortcomings will result in my swift and prompt execution.
Hm, Fair and Balanced Incorporated… I suppose it is multiple gods, then? But that makes it sound too human… As well as this contract.
Then, they must not be the only ones with this power, and like they said, this entire encounter was from luck.
I suppose these texts are all automated as well, I presume…
Then, if they have the resources to do these automatically, perhaps their power that goes beyond life and death is simply beyond my comprehension and they do this for entertainment… or are they amassing manpower?
And that note at the end… they're using fear to keep people in line, then?
Hey, look, I'm an admin, and everyone else is like, blazing past you, do you wanna accept or not? Because you've been in deep thought for like, 4 minutes now.
…Ah.
"Ah," I speak out to the voice that appeared in my head, "My apologies, I was under the presumption that this process was automated, and so it was not necessary to speed through it, so I was merely wondering on what's happening," I say, apologizing.
Hmm… Yeah, okay, whatever. I don't think there's a time limit on these anyways… I was just wondering. Assuming you accept, have a nice match!
I thank the voice for their promptness, and once they were assumedly gone, I get my thoughts in order.
Admins. That indicated a hierarchy, like going into the direction of a company like a social system…
And he said to have a nice match, not matches, meaning I'll likely only have a single match… or perhaps a single opponent?
Although, that admin was correct, I'm thinking too much about this without enough information, and there's a strong chance they'll explain it to me after I accept.
So, I accepted the contract, knowing that the chances of me being able to go back on it were unlikely.
You have accepted the contract. You are now a player owned by Fair and Balanced Incorporated.
Now on the topic of what you are here for, please listen to this recording of the head villain developer, Aodare.
Ah, so they do explain it to me…
A secondary holographic screen pops up to the side, grabbing my attention as a voice that sounds like it would fit a stereotypical evil dark lord character starts speaking.
And the person who shows up on the screen seems to be a stereotypical dark ghost type of person… Holding a dark clipboard, which was slightly humorous.
"Hello. My name is Aodare, and you have been chosen to become the villain player in the 4.0 version of our PvP system. Your role has been randomly chosen, and not based on your previous experiences, so don't be upset, blame fate. The PvP is a system based on the gamer system that seems to float around this universe like a plague, and your goal is to kill the hero player, which will be your nemesis for the rest of the match. You will select your species, class, and etcetera, before being placed into your world, which is a random world, fictional or not.
The rules of your match are simple. You must meet your opponent in one year, otherwise you are both disqualified and killed. You cannot become friends with your other opponent unless if a modifier allows it. And the other player cannot be killed by people connected to you. Getting someone else to hire someone else to kill your opponent counts as connected to you, so don't even try it. Penalty for doing so is the other player winning.
Your rewards for victory is to become a gamer, which means you are no longer owned by us, and be able to access the full system at your disposal. And defeat means to serve your opponent for the rest of time, and I'm sure you can imagine how the victors treat the defeated.
And so concludes my monologue. I hope you didn't fall asleep. Enjoy your match, because the rest of your future depends on it. History most likely does not have its eyes on you, but on the off chance it is, act like it."
The screen abruptly disappears and flickers away, and the other screen changes into something else, but I'm currently stuck in my thoughts.
This is a long-term thing. Not a short match. I was under the assumption that a PvP match was short, but I suppose after you die, all assumptions should be gone.
And the way he said species, classes and worlds, I assume I'm going to be ripped away from my world, quirk, and my humanity.
That is not a comfort at all, I'd say. I actually liked my quirk, which was to turn myself into a plant-like form and manipulate my body as a weapon.
Hm, classes though… Maybe I'll find something similar…
Wait, if the selection was random, then perhaps I could stay a human and keep my quirk?
No, you've gone through this same road before, you'll keep thinking of things that can be immediately answered if you just keep moving forward.
I have to keep moving or I'll be left behind for dead.
Now that you've heard the rules, please create your new form.
It is recommended you go from top to bottom.
[Species]
[Class]
[Modifiers]
[Starting Advantage]
[Difficulty]
[Name]
Hm… Like a gamer system… Like an… What was it called? R… R something. How unlucky the one thing that seemed to be a standard in this universe, was the thing I neglected the most.
Well, either way… Species.
[Human - 3 stat points per level - A normal, powerless human. Only strength is that most worlds are based on humans.]
[?, ?, ? - Once you choose this option, you will get to choose 1 out of 3 random species to become, however, the human option will be locked.]
Well, this seemed to be an easy answer, I was human, so I should stay human.
But just as I was about to pick the human option, I hesitated.
…A normal, powerless human… What did that mean?
If this selection was random, and FaBI could create worlds out of nowhere… Could it be that these 'humans' are quirkless?
But I suppose my class would be the quirk at that point, but…
…As a member of the MLA, an organization who deitized power over anything else…
I can't pass the temptation to press that other option. Perhaps it might be a mistake, but if there's power to be had, it would go against my ideals to pass it up, wouldn't it?
So what if I'm not going to be human anymore? It's not as if mutation quirks weren't considered human. This'll just be the more extreme form of that.
Convincing myself with the pep talk, I picked the random option.
[Birdmen - 4 stat points per level, 1 dex per level. - Birdlike humanoids. With enough dexterity and big enough wings, you will be able to fly.]
[Automaton - 5 stat points per level, 3 end per level. - Robots, what else is there to say? Lose most emotions. Unable to physically feel. All magic related classes are severely weakened]
[Tauren - 4 stat points per level, 1 str per level. - Tauren from World of Warcraft, a species of cow humanoids. Animals are naturally more passive towards you.]
Looking at my options…
This was the correct choice. All of these are, in one way or another, much more powerful than the human option. Not even mentioning the added bonus of 2 of them, possibly 3 depending on how the automaton looks, are essentially humans in the end.
Yes, lady luck has truly blessed me… If I was a bit more arrogant, then I'd use Aodare's words and say history has its eyes on me, but I'll find out later if that's the case or not.
Now comes the difficult option of deciding which one to pick… An emotionless robot, likely only fit to kill this other player, a humanoid cow, or a humanoid bird…
Well, the one that fits the power bill the most correctly is the automaton, but the weakening of magic classes sounds detrimental, because it sounds like an option I would choose.
So, between the tauren and birdmen…
Well, I am fond of birds, and the thought of being able to fly is enticing to me, a flightless human.
So, I picked the birdmen. I'm sure the tauren is an equally strong option, but when it comes to equals, bias decides everything.
You have chosen to become a birdmen.
Now, please choose your looks.
Suddenly, a… How do I call it… A 'doll' that vaguely resembles a birdman shows up to the left of the screen.
I suppose that is to become me in the short future.
Taking a look back at the screen, a customization screen…
Well, new life, new me.
After maybe 15 minutes, I finally decided on what I wanted to look like.
Unfortunately, I can't make anything too human looking, so the beak, talons, and claws stay, all in a rather greyish color.
The feathers that cover me are all in a dark red color, with the tips of most of the feathers being emerald colored as a small nod to my previous quirk.
Now, this made me look like a dark lord, but hey, I'm a hypocrite. Dark lords can look good.
And the wings on my back reached all the way to my ankles, and went above my head, all in the same color as the rest of my body, and was wide enough to… I eyeballed it to say enough to fit one and a half adults laying side by side. Although I might be off there, as I'm not the best at sizes. I'm also pretty sure it was made out of a harder type of feather, but it felt the same as the rest of my body, which felt like playdough, which I'm sure it won't when I'm in it.
Well, this is me now, I suppose. A 6 foot tall bird creature. In the worst case scenario and I end up regretting how I look, I might find a way to dye my feathers… No matter how tough that may be.
Progressing from that screen, the next option is to pick my class.
Please pick your class. You may click options to check them without consequences.
You may pick a second class at level 30.
[Warrior], [Mage], [Rogue], [Ranger], [Support]
Ah…
Well, personally, if I can just get a second class later, I want my first class to be a mage.
Mage
[Elementalist - Classes that focus on one basic element and nothing else. Master of one.]
[Literally everything else - Classes that take a dip with multiple roles. Jack of a few trades, master at none.]
Hm… Then…
Well, only being able to choose 2 classes is limiting. It was the one bad thing about quirks, once you had it, you were stuck with it and lived with it.
So, having a few things I can do with one class should be the better option, so it doesn't feel like I made a mistake.
Mage
Literally everything else
[Arcane Mage - gives 1 int, 1 wis per level - Using pure mana, this class manipulates the arcane into various forms as a style. You can tell this is different from the mana mage from the elementalist tab because this mage's spells are purple and not blue.]
[Beast Maker - gives 2 int, 1 wis per level - Uses mana to create minions to fight for them, along with basic mage spells that mainly focus on increasing your minion's power.]
[Druid - gives 1 int, 2 wis per level - Uses the power of nature to fight, heal, and transform into other creatures. Sometimes have a problem with lack of good offensive power]
…
The list continued quite a while after that, but I found what I wanted. Sure, there are probably better options…
But like I said, I'm a hypocrite sometimes, and this is personal. I enjoyed my quirk, even if, admittedly, it got outclassed by a lot of other things objectively.
But even then, my own power rose faster than all of my peers, and I started to win fights I really shouldn't…
Ah, but this class works on a different logic…
Well, I was exceptional in my battles despite my limited quirk, so I shall be sure to raise this class to its limits.
You have chosen druid as your class.
Moving on to the next option… Modifiers.
Modifiers are random things that can positively, negatively, or neutrally affect your character or world, based on the option you choose. Modifiers cannot be removed until after your match is over.
[Villain player], [Birdmen], [Druid], [World]
Hm… A weak explanation, but I believe I get it. It's a random thing that can either bolster myself, or negatively impact it… On the scale, I can't say, but I'll give it a few tries.
So… Villain player.
Villain Player modifier
[Remember me? - People are more likely to remember you, even if they don't know who you are yet.]
Hm… Certainly sounds like a double edged sword. Easier to get recognized in a crime… Much more easier to be remembered in the mind of the public if I were to say… Oh, you know, spread around the ideology of the MLA.
Yes, I think I'll be doing the correct thing in my scenario and spread the good word of Destro throughout the world I'll end up in.
Ah, I'll try it again.
Villain Player modifier
[Goosebumps - You cause goose bumps in people you're negative towards.]
This one… Sounds like a good thing if I need to put someone in their place, although, negative towards sounds broad enough to activate whenever I don't need it to happen.
Perhaps another one?
Villain Player modifier
[Urge to fight - You have an uncontrollable urge to fight, even if the situation doesn't call for it.]
…Ah, here are the negative parts.
All things considered… This doesn't look too bad. It just means I'll speak with blood and iron more often than not. A bit inconvenient… But I will deal with it.
Then, let me try again before I go for another modifier, then. As most of these have been advantageous to me.
Villain Player modifier
[Increased EXP - You gain experience as if you were playing on the difficulty above the difficulty you play on.]
That… Means absolutely nothing to me at this moment, as I have no clue how much exp that actually means.
Well, maybe the other modifiers will be better.
Birdmen modifier
[Non-Stop - You don't stop chasing after your prey easily, causing you to chase people far after they escape.]
…Terrible.
Ugh, this is actually terrible. This is lesson one of combat. Learn when you're defeated. This just spits in all of that, and leaves a terrible taste in my mouth.
Now I'm in sunk cost fallacy, and I want to get one good one…
Fine, another one, then?
Birdmen modifier
[Fast regrowth - Your feathers can be regrown extremely quickly, even seconds after being taken off.]
This sounds good…
…When the hell are my feathers going to be taken off, realistically though?
Hmm…
Oh wait, wasn't Hawks… Yeah, Hawks, he had this telekinetic wing quirk and he sometimes couldn't regenerate fast enough in one fight.
…Which leads to the problem of me not having a high chance of being able to shed my feathers to telekinetically use them.
…But maybe my next modifier…
Birdmen modifier
[Strong Stomach - Anything you consume will be cleansed of negative effects. Taste is unaffected.]
No, this was good, but not what I'm looking for…
…Although, if I'm ever poisoned, or drinking alcohol, this'll be nice.
Actually, very nice, because if I'm really about to make myself a public figure, I can probably assume I'm going to be spotted by the enemy player very quickly. So having one area they might try to kill me from completely blocked off is good.
Alright, something strong to end off with here. Now, druid, don't disappoint me…
Druid modifier
[Distinct Transformations - All of your transformations are extremely recognizable.]
Not a strong start.
Well, if I needed to do anything covert with a transformation, that's out of the window now.
Well then… Next.
Druid modifier
[I Control Life. All Life. - Gain the ability "Control Over Plants" Which allows you to manipulate plantlife to whatever you will, completely ignoring physics.]
Wait, actually, this is extremely good. Life requires plants to survive, because they provide oxygen, so if I control the plants…
Well, I'm sure my radius won't be planet wide, but I know of a lot of deadly plants. I'm sure I could make even weed dangerous enough if I'm creative.
Alright, next, then, although it might be hard to get something better than this.
Druid modifier
[Healing Mastery - Your healing abilities will cure anything from cancers to missing limbs. Less effective on yourself.]
…I stand corrected. It can get better.
Being able to cure even the impossible is so good, I don't believe there's many things that are more desirable than it. Yes, this'll be extremely useful for my cause.
I just have to hope that I get healing early. Hopefully, it won't be any longer than a week or two, because this is something I want to make use of immediately. People will scramble over trying to get me on their side, which I can definitely make use of…
Ah, maybe another druid modifier…
No, I don't want to push my luck too much…
How about that last modifier option?
World modifier
[Atlas start - You start in the Kingdom of Atlas.]
…Well, that's great and all, but where is Atlas? I suppose I won't know until I get there… But I guess that saves me some questioning I'll have to do to the locals.
I suppose the world modifiers directly affects the world, then…
Alright, so, there shouldn't be too much harm in pushing my luck here.
World modifier
[Tecnoclati's More Grimm Mod - Adds Tecnoclati's More Grimm mod to your world, which increases the variety of grimm in your world.]
Once again, I have no idea what grimm are, but I suppose variety can't be too bad.
…Then again, grimm do sound ominous.
Well, maybe one more time.
World modifier
[Caught Unaware - Most modifiers that affect the world appear one day out of nowhere without any context, causing effects on people. This also affects the other player's modifiers.]
Hmm…
So, people don't know that I just increased the variety of grimm?
…Well, I suppose that's an alright modifier. Better everyone else is in the same spot of confusion I am.
And this also has the added benefit of slightly screwing over the other player, so I'm sure this won't backfire.
Done with my modifiers, I move to the other menu.
Starting advantages are based on world, class, and modifiers, and gives you a skill or item to make sure you don't die on day 1.
Your starting advantage is…
[Early Transformations - Your transformation skills are unlocked earlier.]
Ah, that's helpful… Well, despite the transformation's recognizability, I'm sure I'll find a use for them later down the line…
…Actually, what can I even transform into? Animals?
Huh, if I could turn into animals, then it's a possibility that I could turn into a…
…Bird.
…
I see, I've completely played myself.
In all my 29 years of life, I've never felt as stupid as I do right now.
Ah… Lack of foresight, I suppose. It should be fine, even if I might never fly in my base form, the wings still look intimidating on me.
The next option was difficulty, yes?
Please choose your difficulty. This cannot be changed.
[Very Easy - All enemies will roll over and die. You gain very little experience.]
[Easy - All enemies are easier to fight. You gain slightly less experience.]
[Normal - All enemies are close to their canon abilities. Your experience gain is normal.]
[Hard - All enemies are slightly harder than usual. Your experience gain is increased.]
[Very Hard - All enemies are extremely tough to take down. Your experience gain is highly increased.]
[Extreme - Have you played Dark Souls without getting hit? No? Well, would you like to? All experience gain is multiplied by ten.]
…Huh…
And I have a modifier that increases the amount of experience I get to the difficulty above…
Now, the question is, hard, or very hard? Because while normal sounds all good, I would like to stay ahead of the curve, because I'm sure most people will pick normal in this situation.
Choosing very hard would give me that ten times multiplier, which sounds extremely powerful… However, enemies will likely increase at that same speed, so perhaps hard might be the better choice, where the enemies are still hard, but I'll still outclass them.
Or the enemies could completely blindside me and it doesn't work the way I think it does, but every option in life is a risk, and this is no different.
You have chosen hard as your difficulty.
Good… Now… My name.
Please select your name.
I could choose my real name… But… I would like something new, because, as I said, new life, new me.
And the fact that despite Destro not being his actual name, he's now eternally referred to as Destro, so I believe having my name be something I'd like to be called by would be good.
Now the problem is… I don't actually have a clue what my name should be.
Pacing around the void a bit, I eventually turn around and…
If you're having a hard time coming up with a name, we'll come up with random options for you!
…That's been right behind me.
Actually, that's just a whole different screen. Has that always been there, and it's been out of my sight because I don't look behind myself?
Well, questions aside, this is conveniently useful.
Tapping on the screen a few times, I get… Not all too great names.
Cleivi Oike, Polovan, Uoiven Denm…
Eventually I found something that sounds alright.
Moroes.
It sounds like morals, so it's likely that Moroes is just a misspelling of morals, but I believe Aodare's name was just a misspelling of an American name, if my memory is correct.
So, Moroes. No last name, but if I need one… I'll probably go with a color, or maybe a month, depending on the situation.
You have chosen the name Moroes.
Are you ready?
Ah…
Well then, I say goodbye to my home of quirks and liberation, and I now say hello to my new house, full of unknowns.
But I'll carry the meta-liberation cause with me, if it should be necessary. Nobody deserves to have their own powers restricted. Best case scenario would, of course, to be in a world where everyone is already liberated… But if my world wasn't, then it's a definite possibility others aren't.
So… Yes, I'm ready.
Very well. Good luck, Villain Player. May you get a footnote in history one day.
An:
Started at 11:50ish PM, ending at around 1:50 AM, and only this lousy 4k 1st chapter to show for it.
Do people spend that much words on character creation? I wanted to get into the mindset of a MLA guy getting isekaied, but I'm not sure if I did it correctly, ah well.
I still haven't watched RWBY, and I'm dropping my MC straight into Atlas, so I'm going to have to rely on a lot of wikipedia for names and places, along with all of the other bullshit I need to come up with on my own, so if anyone has any suggestions, I'd like to hear it.
One may come with the concern that the modifiers make the MC way too strong at the start, and I've acknowledged those concerns. It's just that I wanted my MC to do cool plant and transformation things, so I'll make my MC do cool plant and transformation things.
I've sort of got a roadmap in my head, but it's all a jumbled mess and I've definitely got the later parts of this fic better than my first part of this fic, which would be like the next 10 chapters or something.
I do like RWBY's setting though, so hopefully that'll get me through this fic lmao.
As for the MC himself, I just like the Meta Liberation Army from My Hero Academia a lot because I really dig the idea of their liberation thing. So I made the MC from the MLA, which, if I'm not a shit writer, should influence a lot of the decisions he makes in the world.
But my track record is atrocious, so I'm starting a betting pool of 'when i'm going to drop this fic.'
My first guess is like chapter 8. And I bet the toy John Cena I have in my room for some reason.
If I get past chapter 8, then it's either going to end in fire by chapter 15, or we might actually have a fic that I'm actually going to finish.
But hey, who knows. I'm just a guy who likes people fighting each other and power fantasies a lot.
[Aura Liberation Gamer, so I don't have to jam the gamer part into the description, or Aura Liberation Army, and have to jam the gamer part into the description?]
