'Why does my body feel so heavy?' The thought went through my head as I tried to get up from my strangely hard be-

"This isn't my bed." I said looking down on the "bed" of grass I've found myself lying on. I got up wondering where I was, and why my body was feeling so heavy and sore.

'Probably just pushed too hard in the gym yesterday.' Before I felt something that wasn't there before I went to sleep. Reaching over trying to feel what it was that was there, my hand landed on something that felt like fur, before looking over.

'Am I sitting on my dog again or something?' the thought passed before being dismissed, I wouldn't have felt so cold if I was lying next to anything alive. Before a strange jolt went through my body as I felt my hand land on the tip of the tail.

'OK WHAT IN THE HECK WAS THAT!?' I thought as the tail then, seemingly out of reflex, jerked away from my hand. Getting up I tried to look for what it was that could have caused the jolt.

Before promptly falling over from something dragging me down. As my butt hit the ground, a jolt of pain ran through me. The jolt making my body jolt upright on reflex with the unexpected pain. The feeling of some kind of BONE that shouldn't have existed in the first place felt like it was being pushed into my waist. Processing the pain, and trying to get back up, the feeling of a weight on my waist from behind finally registered.

I got up, very awkwardly no use denying that, slowly trying to stand with that counterbalance in mind. Before trying to feel for that weight on me, hoping that my assumptions were wrong.

They weren't

"WHAT KIND OF ANIME BULLSH*T IS THIS!?" I shouted in shock, faintly wondering about why there is a cursing child here.

'WHY DO I HAVE A TAIL!?' I thought, due to the habit of avoiding shouting ingrained into me from years of trying to keep from causing a public disturbance. Wondering further on why my body still feels heavier than usual, despite the adrenaline that ran through me from the shock.

"Grrrrrr." came a deep animalistic growl from in front of me as I was still in shock. I looked up at what it may have been that made that growl, and instantly regretted doing that.

In front of me was some sort of monster, covered in black fur, a weird white mask on its face but also extending outwards to cover some of its muzzle. My mind froze in fear before any further observation could be made. I couldn't think, only stare in fear at the "giant" monster in front of me, as it started to crawl? Walk? The word escaped me, when the monster was right in front of me.

'RUN.' The thought came into my head as I was already turning around, getting ready to do just that to get away from the thing. I felt a gust of air as I took off, maybe just in time before it actually got me.

Running was strangely easy, when I didn't have any experience with this tail now coming out of my butt. Yet even so, my surroundings weren't moving past as fast as they usually did when I would be running.

'Forget that, just keep running!' I thought, trying even harder to run faster, as I heard heavy footsteps behind me, catching up quickly.

'Faster you IDIOT! ' I thought to myself, in an inner mantra, trying to will my body faster and faster until everything in my vision became a blur. My thoughts, fading constantly until only the feeling of panic remained.

I'm not sure how long this lasted, it felt like an eternity. Until finally I saw something at the end of my vision. Something that looked like a person, I couldn't make it out, but still, the feeling of panic and desperation was still running through me. The sound of heavy footsteps behind me, "encouraging" me to move faster, as desperation was flooding through me.

"HELP!" I shouted, registering the sound of a shouting child and something cracking, as I tripped on something and fell. Everything was going black as I heard a masculine voice.

"More of them!?"

The last thing I saw was a gray blur catching me.

'Sometimes, I really hate my dang semblance.'

When coming back to check in on my favorite nieces, only to see Tai panicking, you could say that I was more than a little worried. Luckily ('Since when was I lucky?') though, Yang and Ruby are still really young, and didn't have the same kind of childhood as me an' Raven. So it was pretty easy to find them.

And just in time too. Right as I found em', they were about to be eaten by a beowulf. Then next thing I know, I hear a kid shouting for help and see a brown haired, 'furred?' I'm gonna go with 'haired' faunus kid running from yet another beowulf.

"More of them!?" I shout as I run to catch him, angling Harbinger to stab the beowulf which was moving too fast to stop, running right into it.

'Huh. Must be a newborn.' I thought to myself steadying the kid in my arms, before turning to Yang, with Ruby still asleep in their little wagon somehow despite all the yelling.

"Alright little lady, what do you have to say for yourself."

"I-I." That isn't like her, she wouldn't be stuttering like this normally. Guess she's a lot more shaken up than I thought.

"I just wanted to find mom." Poor thing, she must still be in denial of Summer's death.

"Kid, I'm sorry to say this but Summer really is-" I was about to get to finish saying that when.

"I KNOW SHE'S DEAD!" She's back to shouting like she was last time I saw her.

"I WAS TRYING TO- I WAs trying to find my mom" she said, getting quieter as she said that, tears appearing in the corner of her eyes as she was.

"How do you know about that?" Seriously, did Tai tell her? Doesn't he know he shouldn't have done that yet? Especially since Summer died not that long ago.

"I saw the pictures in Dad's room." That explains it, these two are still surprising me with how smart they are, Ruby with her already adept knowledge of mechanics, and Yang with her, albeit very hidden, intuitiveness, for a pair of kids.

"Well alright then, I-ugh I'm sorry to say this Yang but Raven, Your birth mother, She's long gone. Both me and Tai haven't seen her since about a month after you were born"

'And I'm trying to find her' The thought isn't a lie but not seeing her since Yang was born was, I've kept in touch with Raven, but it seems like Summer's death was enough to affirm her beliefs that Ozpin's little secret war would get her killed. She's gone even further into hiding. No need to have Yang know what a coward her birth mother really is.

"She is?" The tears are freely falling now.

"Yeah, I really am sorry kiddo." The faunus kid in my arms is still knocked out and I have to get Yang and Ruby back. Maybe Tai would be willing to help the kid out before we send him over to the police station so his folks could find him. "Now, let's get you home, and see if we can help this kid out too." As I say that I put my hand on Yang's shoulder trying to gently guide her and Ruby who's still in the wagon onto the path to head back to Tai's.

The journey back was quiet, save for the sound of Ruby and the kid's quiet breaths as they slept the whole way.

IS WHAT I WOULD LIKE TO SAY!

For some reason, my semblance is acting up even more than usual, on the way back we ran into not only an ursa, but an entire pack of beowulves. I had to put the faunus kid, 'note to self, get the kid's name.' in the wagon with Ruby and believe me, I didn't want some random kid so close to Ruby like that. And the feeling got even worse when, during the trip, Ruby started to hug the kid in the wagon, why did she have to be a hugger!?

Thankfully there weren't any more Grimm on the way back, though during the fight with the Ursa, I noticed Yang stopped crying, now she was calm as can be. That's worrying in all honesty, Yang used to love watching me and Tai fight, though she liked watching her old man fight more than she would me. That's just a given. Right now though, she's as quiet as that one girl I remember from when I did a job for Jaques once, what was her name? Wheeze? Wash? Whatever, the little "princess" that was Jaques' youngest daughter.

'Really hope Tai has a way to get Yang out of this funk.'

"Achoo!" I guess would be fitting for the first thing I heard when I finally reached consciousness. It was really just your generic sneeze noise, or something along those lines, so sorry for not being able to describe it creatively. Wait, that sounded like it came from a kid. I haven't lived in the same home as a kid in more than a decade and even then, they were boys, their voices were never this feminine.

'Keep calm, don't panic, don't make a fool of yourself or make it look like you are guilty of anything.' I thought, trying not to panic, though I was failing, I mean, I'm a teenager who looks like he could be in his mid twenties! I've been told this ever since I was fourteen! And being near kids who I am not related to is a HUGE thing not to do! I don't want to be charged with pedophilia, I'll end up getting a record, and if I get a record I won't be able to enlist in the military and if I can't enlist I can't have a steady job to work until I retire, and if tha-

"Whoa there kid, calm down." Who was that? It was a man, a voice that was familiar but I don't remember where from. "You're hyperventilating, and unless you want to keep sleeping like you have for the past three days, I don't think you wanna do that." He sounded like he was in his early thirties, probably a friend of my sis-

"I was asleep for three days?" I say sitting up from lying on my side on the bed idly wondering why I was still hearing that kid and opening my eyes to see a gray painted room, there wasn't much in here except the basic furniture, like the bed I was in and a desk that was missing a chair that I spotted in the corner, I turned my head to take a look at the origin of where the voice was coming from. There I spotted an older man, looking like he was in his late twenties or early thirties, he was wearing a gray dress shirt and black slacks, he was probably coming back from work, I noted, before seeing his eyes.

'Red?' He had red eyes, though with his features I guess wearing colored contacts like that would make him appealing, especially since he seems to be rocking the sort of "meet me in a bar and we'll have a good drink" look. Though the slicked hair was a bit much.

"Yeah, found you out in the woods." he responded while coming inside. "Found ya when I was looking for my niece when I was told she was missing. You were being chased by a beowulf." He said while gesturing to something next to me. I turned my head to take a look at what he was talking about, and the fear from earlier was coming back, sitting next to the bed I was currently in, sitting on the chair I assumed belonged with the desk in the corner.

It was the girl I heard sneeze earlier, oh no. PLEASE NO! The girl was even attractive the way that I know for a FACT would get people like me arrested if we were in the same vicinity, let alone being found waking up next to her! Oh gods this can't be happeni-

"What did I just say kid, calm down you're not in trouble or anything."

"I'm not?" Where is that kid's voice coming from? The only kid in the room right now is the girl in the red hood sitting next to the bed.

"Why would you be? We found you out in the woods and you broke your lower leg trying to get away from a beowulf." He said while looking at me with a weird look on his face.

"I'm sorry I just don't know-"

'again with the kid? And why is it coming from me? It's just like in that forest-' Just as I think this it all comes flooding back, waking up in the forest, finding a tail attached to my butt, then being chased by that thing. All before running and being caught by a man and hearing a voice. The same voice I've been talking to this entire time.

"You were the one who saved me." I said though with a questioning tone, since I was assuming.

"Yep, like I said earlier, found ya when I was looking for my nieces, one em' being this one here." he said while patting the girl on the head, huh I thought that was a thing only weebs like me do. "This here is Ruby, I'm Qrow, if you don't mind, can you tell us your name?" he introduces himself as well as the-

'How are her eyes that color?' silver-eyed girl still in the chair, though now that I'm actually taking a look at her she seems to be, I want to say she looks concerned but I was never the best at interpreting facial expressions, or expressions in general.

"Matt cough* Yew" May as well give a name as similar to my original name as possible to make things easier on myself. Now that I've calmed down a bit, I'm starting to notice how thirsty and hungry I am, not to mention how heavy my body feels, as well as the extra appendage 'Still can't believe that's actually real.' my throat is feeling really scratchy too so I should probably get some water to make it easier to talk.

As soon as I ask for some water, the girl -Ruby- gets up and runs out the door. Her name, eyes, and her uncle, why is it so familiar? I feel like I've not only heard their voices before but also even seen them somehow. But where? With their looks I wouldn't put it past them to be celebrities, but with a name like Cro- wait a minute.

As soon as that thought passes through my mind, Ruby is back in the room holding a cup of water and Crowe, no not Crowe, Qrow. Is standing there waiting for something. What? I don't know. I took the water and drink all of it. Strangely enough the cup was a little big, and for some reason Ruby was around the same size as me. Once that notion hits me, yet again my mind goes active, the thought that this might be Remnant goes through my head, right before I dismiss it. That would be ridiculous. But I have to be sure.

"I've never seen anyone with silver eyes before, are they natural?" a simple question. And doesn't sound too out of character for anyone in my position, plus if it is then that means-

"Yeah! I got my mom's eyes" Ruby answered, though I don't know why she was so eager to tell me that. Guess Ruby idolizes her mom.

'I swear if this really IS Remnant and I'm in RWBY then I MUST be part of a wish fulfillment fantasy.*' and yet again right when I thought this coincidentally there was a knock coming in from outside.

"We're home!" Who even says that when they come home, the line sounds like it came straight out of a sitcom, the cringe would be enough to make me too embarrassed to say it. And what the heck is with this timing! It's like it's coming straight out of a bad T.V show prologue.*

"That's Tai, he's Ruby's father and the man who took care of you for the past three days while you were out." said Qrow as he motions to leave the room " I'll go tell him you're up" as he leaves he passes the chair that Ruby is now sitting in again, I didn't even notice she was sitting there again, I must be more out of it than I thought.

"How're you feeling?" asked the rose themed girl.

"Like I've been sleeping too long." I really hate that feeling, the headache and weakness in my muscles. The only feeling I hate more would be that feeling of worthlessness I felt after noticing how weak I would be after not working out for a while. "By the way, right before I passed out, I heard a snapping noise. What was that?"

At this Ruby looked a little confused, and said "I think Dad said something about you breaking your leg or something? I don't know." right as she says this she looks a little excited "But Uncle Qrow unlocked your aura! He said it would make it easier to heal! Can you use it!? Can you!?" Wow, she is seriously hyper, now I feel bad for my sisters having to deal with me when I was the same.

"Ruby, calm down." Said yet another familiar voice, probably Tai. "He doesn't know how to use it, we unlocked his aura while he was asleep, remember?" He said as he entered the room.

Tai looks just like how I remembered from the one clip of him I saw, tall, blonde, tanned, and a majestic goatee, if you're wondering why I said that, I call all nicely groomed goatees and beards majestic, it's hilarious seeing people's reactions to it. Speaking of which.

"Nice goatee." I had to say it "Haven't seen hair like that in a long time." I really haven't, the last time I saw a short goatee that actually looked good was my dad five years ago when we were taking pictures to remember him.

In reaction to this, Tai looked both surprised and amused by what I said and Qrow, who was behind him looked the same. I wonder how Qrow will look when he finally grows out his, seeing as it looks like I'm at a point in time where he hasn't grown his yet. Just then I hear giggling, one sounds like Ruby, and the other a little more, how do I put this, it sounds familiar but I don't recognize it. I mean, Ruby seems to have one of those voices that don't change no matter how old you get, but this one kinda sounded like-

'Oh' It really was her. Just behind Tai's legs was a younger Yang, blonde hair done in twin tails, purple eyes were squinting a little from her laughing. Yup, definitely her.

"You know, when I came up I was expecting questions about where you were, definitely not for you to have such nice taste." Tai seemed to have gotten over his surprise and was now just amused.

"I got enough time to put things together, I do have questions, I'm just not in a hurry to get answers. I'll get them when I get them." Thank the Go- no, since I'm in Remnant, Thank Oum. That I learned how to be more patient when talking to people.

"Huh, that's a nice attitude to have there kid. Wouldn't expect someone your age to act like that" Said Qrow "Especially since you couldn't be any older than Ruby." Yeah, I figured that was the case. My age regressed to match the main cast, a major trope in fanfics. Hopefully that is the last of the cliches because at this point I'm almost anticipating it.*

By the time Qrow says this, he and Tai followed by Yang walk into the room. Luckily since Yang and Ruby are still just kids, apparently like me, the room isn't too crowded and we can still talk comfortably.

"How're you feeling there?" Tai asked, geeze I'm running out of narration devices here, I just said asked twice, ugh. "You're probably feeling a little tired, yeah?"

"More like I have a headache, nothing I'm not used to." At this, Qrow and Tai share a look with each other. Probably one of those "conversations without saying anything", personally I've never seen those, let alone had one.

"Well if you're gonna wait for your answers. Would you mind giving us some of our own?" Tai said this while pulling out a chair from,... somewhere. I probably just didn't see it while I was looking around the room or something. "Yang why don't you and Ruby go and play outside while me and your uncle have a talk with this guy."

As he says this, I notice that Yang and Ruby were talking in whispers to each other, while Tai asked them this. Then they just nod while leaving, huh they're a lot less emotive then I thought they would be, given just what show they're from. As I think this they seemingly disappear and the door closes. I can almost see outlines of them as they leave. Nevermind, I take back my previous statement.

Date: 5 Minutes prior to Tai and Yang entering the room

P.O.V Change: Taiyang

"We're home!"

Once I said that I put down our groceries, settling them in our kitchen, enough to feed a house of five, since our previous run of groceries for the month ran out earlier than expected. I had to ask Yang to help me out with it since there was too much for me to carry alone without damaging all the fragile foods we were getting, they weren't all that heavy but one couldn't be too safe when it comes to this stuff. Plus I couldn't ask Qrow to help since we needed an adult to keep an eye on the kid if he wakes up.

"Why don't you go and head up to your sister's room and hang out while I get this done."

"It would probably be better to have her keep this while you head up to the kid's room Tai, he's awake" Hearing this I turned around to see Qrow standing at the foot of the stairs, it seems he came down to tell us that. Conveniently, the kid woke up as soon as I got home.

"You ok with that Yang?"

"Yeah" she answered quietly. My sunny little dragon is still not as sunny as she used to be before Summer's funeral. I've been doing my best, but it looks like she still noticed how hard things have been for me and ended up looking for Raven in an attempt to make things easier on me.

'I just wanted to make this easier for you Dad.'

That was what she said as soon as I asked her why she did what she did. She's such a sweet girl, she seems to have picked that up from Summer raising her, but she still got my recklessness. That makes me worried, and what worries me even more is her reaction to the situation with the faunus kid that Qrow brought with him when he rescued my daughters.

We tried to find the kid's parents, went over to the police station as soon as we could, which was about a couple hours after Qrow got back, but when we reported him, there were no missing faunus kids with his hair color, let alone his features. The police offered to take him in to put him in an orphanage, but as soon as that was suggested, we knew we couldn't do that. The system, despite being made to help kids who don't have any parents, is not a healthy place for them. Let alone a faunus, so I decided to take him in.

This is going to be a lot harder, that is if he decides to stay with us. I'm not going to force the kid to stay with us if he doesn't want to. Still, if he does, then I'll do my damndest to help him. I know it isn't my place to help some random kid, but I have enough room, and my stipend as a Huntsman is more than enough for three, especially since I'm not the type to spend all willy nilly, and Qrow is helping out too.

I still had to tell Ruby and Yang about this though, I told them that, if he chose to, he might end up being family. Ruby took to this readily enough, saying she's always wanted a brother, but Yang. She took that a little hard, she probably thinks I'm trying to replace her since she put Ruby in danger.

"The kid's a little out of it right now, though he seems to be awake enough to be able to answer any questions we can ask. His name's Matte Yew. Got it out of him right when you got back." Qrow disrupted my thoughts as I was thinking back on everything that has happened in the past week.

"Matte Yew?" that was a little strange, he was named after a texture? Not a color?

"Think his parents might have been young, ya know 'if he has a clever or unique name he'll end up the same' that kind of thought is kinda common among young parents." That makes sense, I really wish it wasn't though, don't they know that the name they give their child will end up affecting them for the rest of their lives? I mean I'm not one to say anything considering I thought the same when I had Yang but thankfully it was just a passing thought.

"Anything else you can tell me about him? Kind of don't want to spook the kid." This is probably really shocking for the kid, I mean he was attacked by a beowulf in the forest and then he woke up in a stranger's home.

"Not much I can tell ya, but he did seem to be pretty scared when he saw Ruby. He was really panicking, especially once he noticed me watching em'." Huh, that's new. Usually that doesn't happen, especially around Ruby she always ends up calming people down whenever she's around. It's why I had her stay near the kid with Qrow, I thought her presence might calm him down a little. Have him around someone his age and all that to get him comfortable.

"Any idea why?"

"Just that the kid is probably raised differently, ya know, the kind of parents who would want to take care of the mature things first." That's a strange thought to have.

"Why's that?"

"Just something about the kid ya know? He seems mature for his age, watch he'll probably say something like "nice goatee" just to break the tension." That's ridiculous. How could a kid be that mature or even know what a goatee was?

As this thought finished we were finally at the door to the kid's current and hopefully permanent room. As we stopped to open the door, I heard Ruby inside asking if the kid knew how to use his aura that Qrow decided to unlock so that the kid wouldn't worry about being pressured into staying with us.

"Ruby, calm down." I said as I was opening the door, trying to sound admonishing but still not too harsh. "He doesn't know how to use it, we unlocked his aura when he was asleep, remember?" finishing that statement I notice the kid's awake, and Qrow's right, he kinda has that air about him. Like he's not actually a kid, then there's that look of recognition on his face.

'He knows us?' The thought passes through my head, it's not infeasible considering team STRQ is one of the top Hunter teams in the world. But our time has passed already, team STRQ hasn't been a team for almost a decade now, we haven't been one since Raven left seven years ago.

"Nice goatee."

What?

"Haven't seen hair like that in a long time."

'Qrow had it one for one, what the heck?' How could Qrow have possibly predicted that? Did he tell the kid to say that? Wouldn't put it past him.

"You know, when I came up I was expecting questions about where you were, definitely not for you to have such nice taste." May as well play along, he seems to be trying to relax by cracking a few jokes. Still though, how could a kid develop to think this way?

"I got enough time to put things together, I do have questions, I'm just not in a hurry to get answers. I'll get them when I get them." Huh, he really is a lot more mature than I thought he would be even with Qrow being right I wasn't expecting that kind of answer.

"Huh, that's a nice attitude to have there kid. Wouldn't expect someone your age to act like that" Said Qrow "Especially since you couldn't be any older than Ruby." As Qrow said this the kid seemed to have grown a little resigned to something, though I don't know what.

"How're you feeling there?" He's got to be feeling drained after having to talk to Ruby like that one on one, even for a kid. "You're probably feeling a little tired, yeah?"

"More like I have a headache, nothing I'm not used to." As he says this a realization hits me, one that, as I turn and take a look at Qrow, notice he has too. The kid's probably been around people older than him his entire life, and he's probably pretty smart too, otherwise he wouldn't be as articulate as he is. With him being around adults his entire life he's probably been forced to grow up a little faster than the average child, especially if his parents are young like our earlier theory suggests.

'That's probably why he thought being around Ruby would get him in trouble, his parents never let him be around people his age.'

That was the thought me and Qrow shared silently.

Turning back, it looked like the kid knew what we were doing then too. It was something kids his age shouldn't be able to recognize just yet.

"Well if you're gonna wait for your answers. Would you mind giving us some of our own?" If the kid is so smart and mature already, best to talk to him like an adult. Still going to take this easy though, he's still a kid, no matter how mature he may seem.

Though it would probably be best that I send Ruby and Yang out of the room, they'll make this a little harder to talk about. Now that I think of it, Yang is supposed to be downstairs keeping the groceries. But she's still little and her attention span is short despite how smart she is. Luckily though we have no perishables so it can wait for a little while we get this sorted out.

"Yang why don't you and Ruby go and play outside while me and your uncle have a talk with this guy." As I finished saying that I grabbed the chair Yang took from the other room and left in the hallway before we left for groceries earlier today, to sit next to Ruby by the bed.

"Why are you asking-" is what I hear as I interrupt the girls' little 'private' conversation

"Yang why don't you and Ruby go and play outside while me and your uncle have a talk with this guy." and just like that, Ruby using her semblance took Yang to their room. They still share their room. Ever since Ruby was born nine months after me and Summer got married they shared that room, even as infants those two were inseparable.

"Can you tell us where your parents are?" standard question to ask lost kids, I know I would talk to the kid like an adult but it doesn't change the fact he's still a kid.

"My dad is dead, my mom isn't around." An orphan looks like.

"I haven't seen my sisters in months."

Sisters too? And months at that.

"You have anyone who can take care of you kid?" Qrow is getting right into it huh? Well with this kid I guess it's alright, just hope this doesn't come back to bite us.

"I've taken care of myself for the past few weeks." WEEKS!?

"Any place you had to stay?" I really hope so, otherwise how the heck did the kid survive?

"No, not anymore." I guess the beowulf chased him out of where he was staying then.

"Well, how about you stay with us then?" My turn to ask, I sincerely hope he says yes cause the alternative is social services and they won't be kind to him.

"Don't you have yer hands full with the girls?" Huh, the kid says 'your' differently. Wonder where he's from to have that accent.

"We still have room, plus the only alternative besides staying here would be to send you to social services, since you don't have a record or anything like that, that would be a bad idea." Please kid just accept my offer, I really don't want to have your treatment there on my conscience.

"But what about Ya- Ruby's sister." he seems to know Yang's name Qrow must have told him.

"She'll come around, I just really don't want you to end up in that kind of environment. I've seen what it does to kids, seeing as I've had a few as students."

"Ok, but can I ask a few questions before askin'?" There's that accent again, guess it only shows up when he talks fast.

"Sure, ask away."

"Are you two members of team STRQ?" I thought as much, but how does he know us from that?

"We are kid, how'd you know that?" I guess Qrow was too curious to let it slide.

"You saved a lot of people." We did, but again how would he know that? We're from before his time, right now he should have been focused on team BMSN(Brimstone) or even team HLQN(Harlequin).

"Yeah but we're from a really old team, from before your time kid." Qrow you're getting off track.

"I always was out of touch with my own generation." Matte seemed to be amused while saying this, almost like he was having a laugh at a joke only he knew.

"We're getting off track here, did you have any other questions?" I need to get us back on track so I can push the adoption papers through as soon as possible so we can get this to blow over. One doesn't just save a kid in the forest and adopt them without drawing attention, especially the headmaster of signal academy.

"Oh, yeah I do." he nodded his head, seemingly abashed at the idea of getting off track. "Though only a couple. Will I have to become a Huntsman if you take me in?"

"No you don't, that's up to you."

"Ok, last question." as he says this he stops speaking and looks deep in thought. Probably thinking about whether or not he should ask.

"Go ahead kid, we're not gonna bite your head off if you say the wrong thing." Qrow's worried about that too huh? Guess it does make sense that he would, seeing as he's been through the same thing the kid seems to have.

"Do I have to be adopted by Tai or can I go with you?" he asked this while looking at Qrow.

"What?" Qrow looked just as surprised as I felt.

"Why do you want that?" What does he mean by that?

"Qrow reminds me of my dad." Oh, well I guess that answers that.

"Qrow, you ok with that? He can still stay with me if anything." I really need to keep this kid safe, it's what Summer would prefer I do here.

"Sure kid, if you want a drunk like me as an old man." As Qrow says this he starts to exaggerate his movements, and show off the canister on his hip. Trying to get him to pick me huh? That's just like you Qrow.

"It wouldn't change much for me, my Dad was the same." Wait, what?

"Your Dad was an old drunk too?" I had to ask, If he was and with this kid's seeming maturity he would know not to lie like that, not to mention Qrow and I would notice if he was.

"Yeah, abusive too, or so my sisters told me when they were still around." The kid said something like that so nonchalantly, what kind of childhood did he have!? "They said something about me being too young and that I suppressed the memory, I can tell they weren't lying since they had proof."

"You sure, you want to go with someone like your abusive old man?" that's what I'm thinking too, why would he want that?

"Yeah, I managed to make his last years happy and he changed, I might be able to do that for you too." The kid wants to change Qrow? Make him happier? That's Why he wants to go with him?

"Kid you shouldn't want to do that, you're just that, a kid." Qrow wasn't exaggerating his movements anymore, he was serious about this.

"I know, but I still do." Why was this kid so avant garde about this. He's open about his trauma and is even saying that he wants to help someone like the source of his trauma.

"Well if you insist, but I have to say, Matte Branwen would sound pretty weird." Qrow's just going along with it?

"A dull 'blessed raven' is better than a dull 'sturdy tree', wouldn't you say?" Wait 'blessed raven' where'd that come from?

"What do you mean by 'blessed raven?" Guess even Qrow's confused about that.

"Yer last name, Branwen. It came from the tale of a beautiful young lady of the same name. The meaning of the name was 'blessed raven'." That's the origin of his name? Wait, how did the kid know that?

"How did you know that?" Qrow stop reading my mind.

"I read a lot. I don't really like physical activity, though I do see the benefits of it." this kid is really smart for his age, what the heck? I've never heard of a kid that likes to sit and read rather than play outside.

"Huh, well either way it sounds a little weird to me." It doesn't really but I guess the 'dull' part would bother him, it kinda bothers me too. Seeing how 'bright' the kid actually is.

"In that case, what about making my last name my first now, I'm used to being called either so it still works." Honestly, a tree for a bird. If I didn't know any better I would say this was just to make Qrow visit home more often.*

"That works, 'Yew Branwen'. Guess you're my kid then." Qrow looked a little off put at the idea, but given the reasoning I guess it would for anyone.

Either way I will be the one to say this

"Welcome to the family Yew."

"Thanks for having me."

POST A/N

all the *'s are meant to signify that I will address them here.

Basically for the most part, I was signifying either something that were going to be addressed later in the story, or making a fourth wall joke at my own expense.

now as for the * by the cough, what I meant by that part, in order to clear up any confusion, was me giving my character a name he could be addressed by, and that the cough would split the one word name into a given name and a surname.

This is my first story, I Don't know if it will be as good as I hope it becomes but here we go.

This will end up being a slight AU not in the difference of magic system, but in how I would interpret the interaction of the magic systems, as well as the difference in timelines due to the addition of a major character into the cast. As for scaling issues, I have hopes to avoid those problems but there will be changes or issues that are unavoidable due to my inexperience in handling powerscaling as well as the intricacies of the subject. As for the interaction of the magic systems it would be based on my assumptions as well as the author statements on the matter. In truth it will be very headcanony and as a result if you believe it would be a different matter in certain situations, please tell me in either a PM or a review.

Now for what magic systems are being brought in to interact with the RWBY magic system. What I mean by magic system is, anything in the fictional world that is unique to it or plays a major role in that world that acts in a way akin to what magic signifies in the real world, I.e flying without a machine or shooting fire out of your hands. Good examples being Aura in RWBY, Ki in Dragon Ball, or Magecraft in the Fate franchise. I know many people already know what that term means, but this is for those who don't already know. As for the magic systems being brought in and interacting with RWBY, those will be the magic systems of Pokemon, and by that I mean Pokemon moves and how aura interacts with the world in Pokemon, as well as Traits from Dragon Ball, those traits only being how to increase the metaphysical energies of the magic systems involved, in this case being aura. Making it so that aura reserves will now be able to increase in cases of extreme focus, emotion and normal training, as well as result in cases where it can be used in ways that you do not see in RWBY such as "aura cloaks" that power up people in Dragon Ball when they channel large amounts of Ki, and the manifestation of energy based long range attacks.

The reason why I have stated that these are traits from Dragon Ball is because I have not seen any official RWBY contents stating how to increase aura reserves or the interaction it has with the body. Every way I have seen people saying how aura reserves increase or get stronger on this website is the same as Ki in Dragon Ball. As for the reason why I said Pokemon is due to the large number of "moves" in the franchise that can be encompassed in it, as well as the fact that "aura" in the franchise can also be considered "infinite energy" which is the energy pokemon use in their moves, so I'm taking the concept and attempting to apply it to, how it would be if the aura in RWBY worked the same way, just know that it will not be the "end all way" to come up with new ways of using aura, just an engine to use in order to increase variety in combat.

The next issue to address is characterization and romantic pairings, I hope you don't expect any pairings that I can't bring into the story without it seeming unnatural, or brought on due to politics affecting the show through the company that owns it trying to milk it for money at the expense of actually good writing, like Weiss and Jaune in the case of characterization(though my plans may change in the future) which is not canon, or Yang and Blake which was brought in due to the large number of people in the fandom who shipped them because of those few scenes that indicated a "romantic interest" in one another(though to me it just looked like sibling interactions honestly). As for the issue of characterization, I will be attempting to stay true to the original characters, If there is enough data on them in the story for them to BE characters, but due to the difference in timeline there WILL be differences due to the characters changing in different ways in comparison to canon hence why I said pairings that seem "unnatural" in the story, so there MAY be a difference in the pairings as compared to canon.

The pairings that will be different than in canon however will NOT be the ones that are already seemingly set in stone, such as the Ren and Nora pairing seeing as they had shown this kind of relationship even years before the start of canon, as well as the initial interactions between Neptune and Weiss(though that last one may change if my plans end up changing since I'm starting the canon roughly ten or so years before canon, so please keep this in mind.)

For my OC, yes there will be moments where he seems like a Gary Stu that will be unavoidable due to how I want him to affect Remnant, and yes he will be a semi-SI. The reason I say "Semi" is due to the fact that I will be taking into consideration what I've been told how I am seen as well as how I "act" by those close to me. Then there's the fact that he is based on only the aspects of myself that I actually understand, there will come a point where the OC will be his own character and not just "me" being inserted into the story, due to the experiences that I plan for him to go through developing him as a character. As for the moments where he will seem overpowered, I will be attempting to mitigate adverse effects it may have on the story, such as making them rarer than just every other chapter as well as showing how he got there, since then it will be earned, as well as making it so that there will either be drawbacks on those moments or making them one time things.

Next on the list of issues to address will be the fighting style my OC will be using. Like I said my OC will be based on me, so as a result his skills will be based on my own and the rate of growth that I've been told I display in terms of combat. The same will go for his weapons, I have zero experience with any type of bladed weapon, nor do I have any experience with any type of gun besides an m4, as a result the skills that I and in turn, my OC know will ultimately be what he falls back on. So the skills he will have will be the ABSOLUTE basics of boxing and grappling, being just knowing how to throw a punch, keep your balance and in the words of my teacher "having control of yourself even when flat on your ass". I DO know that what I have learned is not universally applicable, hence why I said my OC will become his own character eventually, seeing as his growth will be different from mine.

Next is the weapons my OC will be using, like I have said I have zero experience in using a weapon other than "the pointy end goes that way" or "keep the muzzle facing the ground or upwards". As a result the weapons my OC will be using will be a non-mechashift compound bow(you will see what I mean by non-mechashift later), seeing as I actually know how to use that, a basic firearm seeing as learning how to use those is as basic as learning how to hold it to avoid hurting yourself and those around you, as well as Dust infused glove gauntlet hybrids, once he can get the training needed to use a weapon that dangerous seeing as according to the wiki as well as what we have seen in canon so far Dust infused clothing or infusing Dust into yourself can be extremely dangerous if handled wrong, as for the number of times the Dust infused gloves can be used, That will be based on my assumptions seeing as there is no canonical accounts for the number of times it can be used.(that assumption WILL be affected by the interaction of different magic systems due to the fact that Dust is part of the RWBY magic system.)

As for what I know of the canon of RWBY, I do not know much about it seeing as I did not keep up with it after volume 5 I only know cliff notes of the story and don't know much in terms of the overall worldbuilding, seeing as I was not invested enough into it in order to buy the books or do anything extra to know about it, as such I don't know the backgrounds of most of the characters so I will be making them up as I go.

And finally My OC will not be a "real" combatant when it comes to most things, I myself don't like to fight, and only did the absolute basics for judo and muay thai because I wanted to try and see if they would make working out more fun when I was starting out in getting into shape. It really wasn't fun for me, and as a result my OC is not going to be a major combatant. So if you're expecting me to make him a major "BAMF" in combat, don't. Like I said he's based on myself and as a result, he will only be interested in the same things I am. To the exclusion of things he doesn't like, such as fighting or anything truly "physical" outside of strictly working out.
