Roped Into Helping

Lady Countryrose

Ch. 3

Hermione awakened the next morning with an outfit waiting on a chair for her. She was surprised that she didn't hear anyone coming in to do so. She had pulled herself out of bed to see what was given to her.

It was a leather outfit. Tan brown leather pants, cream silk shirt, a tan brown leather vest. Only to have a sage green leather jacket with cream and gold accents. Along with brown leather boots and a matching leather bag.

Hermione was happy after getting all the clothes on. Only to find that everything fits like a glove. After putting everything on. She had found a pair of leather gloves that matched her jacket. Once she had found a mirror, she could not believe what she saw.

A tear ran down her cheek. Seeing a woman. The kind she always pictured herself to be. An independent warrior.

She found her wand. Magicked her hair into a French braid. Then exit out of her room. Only to find another guest of Rivendell.

"Master Baggins," gasped Hermione. "I didn't realize that you would be here."

"Oh, Lady Hermione." He looked around for a moment. "Where is Gandalf?"

"He went back to the Shire. I imagine that he is bringing Frodo here."

Bilbo nodded his head, "Yes, I guess that would be advised." He let out a breath. "Would you read a book about a Hobbit on an adventure?"

Hermione knew what the story was about. She smiled, "I would."

"You might have liked Thorin," he shook his head. "He was a tough one to allow anyone to get close."

Hermione sighed, closing her eyes. 'Almost like Harry. But not the same. Harry pushed people away, thinking he was protecting them. Thorin pushed people away because he hardly trusted anyone.'

She left Bilbo to do what he was doing. She made her way onto the grounds. Pulling the copied books out of the leather bag. After taking them out of her jeans pockets from before.

Hermione sat against a tree and opened a book. It explained the usage of elemental magic and how one uses it. It was almost like producing magic from home, but without words. Unless one could do it with chanting. While the picture of the outcome of what they wanted the spell to do with the said element.

Hermione knew what was written was vague at best. Yet, it had given her keys to unleash a new way of doing magic. 'Maybe Merlin had done things like this in the past?'

Later that day, as the sun had started to set. Hermione had put her books away. Only to have an evening stroll in the garden. Where she met with Arwen, who was trying to sneak out of the city.

"What's wrong?" Hermione had seen the uneasiness in her walking.

"It's Frodo, I feel that he is in trouble!"

"I'll go with you!" Hermione was determined to help.

The two then ran to their horses. Got them ready and then rode off. Just as the land had become dark.

Hermione leaned down to her horse. "Be my eyes," she whispered to her horse. Only to see him nod, before they had gone onto a gallop.

The horses, the sound of thunder, drove into the earth with their hooves. Taking ground as they go. Feeling the sense of wind, gracing her face, as they go. The moon, their only source of light.

What felt like a few hours, due to the illusion of the night. Found their way to an old overlook, surrounded by shadow looking wraiths. Going into a kill-like formation. Only for Hermione to call upon her patronus, chasing the shadows away.

The patronus was supposed to be an otter, only to see something else entirely. What surprised her was seeing her patronus turned into a hawk. As it flew at the shadow men. Leading them out of the area.

"Hermione," she heard a voice call out to her. Causing her to turn around. Seeing Harry among those that she had rushed to save.

"Harry," she gasped out. She led her horse to him. Only to jump off and hug him hard. "What… happened to you?"

"Later, Frodo needs our help!" She rushed over to Arwen and Strider. Only to see Frodo have a hard time breathing. "What can you do, Hermione?"

She went through all the spells that she could use. She was not trained for the combat setting. Then something came to her.

"Anapneo!" It helped him to breathe. She then picked him up.

"What are you doing?" A Hobbit tried charging her. Only for Harry to hold him back.

"I am going to get him to help." She glared at the Hobbit. "He needs healing."

Arwen stepped forward. "Let me, I am a fast rider."

Hermione shook her head. "I know a faster way." She walked away from the gathered group and turned on her heel. Only to disappear with a crack.

She popped back into Rivendell, near the front gate. "HELP, HELP! I HAVE WOUNDED!"

Within moments, Elves came out of nowhere. They recognized her, but took Frodo away. She had taken a sigh of relief.

Lord Elrond walked towards her. After everyone had left. "There is more to you than what meets the eye. Be careful when you use those powers in this world." Then he left to help with Frodo.

Hermione had taken a deep breath. She had seen Harry, he would be coming to Rivendell. With that in mind, she went back to her room. Where she had found what little sleep she could get.

She had only found four hours of sleep that late night adventure.
