Roped Into Helping

Lady Countryrose

Ch. 5

The next morning dawn, with Hermione up and about. She ate her breakfast in peace. When Gandalf showed up, he gave a supportive smile. Then he led her to the meeting area. She sat on the other side of Gandalf, with Strider next to her.

"I will support whatever decision you make, Lady Granger." Strider smiled at her.

Making her smile in return. "Thank you, Strider. I don't believe that is your true name. It is more than a title."

He chuckled, "You're right, it's not my name. But one I had earned."

Then Lord Elrond came with a few others. Singling the start of the meeting. Only to see Harry sitting next to Frodo.

"Thank you, all that journeyed here. We are faced with a great decision." After a moment of pause, he waved his hand. "Frodo, if you please."

Once, Frodo had walked to the table and set something down. It was when she saw the ring. This time, only to sense something dark and ominous. The kind that wanted to entice you that bad things were good.

"Not again," hissed Harry. Grabbing onto his head. Like he had done with his scare.

Only to see Gimli trying to swing a weapon at it. Only to see not a scratch on it.

"No simple weapon can harm it, Master Gimli. Only the fires of what t'was made can destroy it. The fires of Mount Doom."

Then the war of males of yelling had piped up. Making a bad issue worse. It was then she had heard Frodo. With a great, deep sorrow, she silenced everyone around them.

"I'll do it," gasped Frodo. "But I don't know where to go…"

Hermione canceled her spell, only to hear Gandalf. As he kneeled before the Hobbit. "Then, I will lead you."

"You have my support," smiled Hermione.

"My Helping hand," supplied Harry. Before, more people had stepped forward to go along with the quest.

Then the three young Hobbits jumped out of the bushes. Only to voice that Frodo will not go without them. Lord Elrond gave a knowing smile, giving them, "The Fellowship of the Ring," title.

That night, Lord Elrond gave the Hobbits, Harry and Hermione armor and weapons. She was getting the run-down on how to get it on. Along with chain mail.

She was told that she could carry a sword and a couple of daggers. So she started picking a few up. Swing them in her hands. Hearing them and testing how they felt in her hands. She found a few that didn't feel right in her hands.

Only to hear Boromir laughing at her. "What is it, girly, you can't find any that will fit?"

With a growl, she found a small dagger and tossed it in the air. Only for the man to laugh at her. Until something fell down, onto the ground. Seeing a dagger at the belly of a bird. Causing the man to gulp.

"I'll take that," Gimli jumped up to take the bird.

After Hermione had found her three weapons. She got to work on making a couple of bracelets with Runes on them. The left one for blocking attacks, the other to add additional force into an attack. Then assigned Runes for which dagger or sword to return to her. So she would not lose them in a battle.

Harry walked up to her. Showing her his dagger. Along with his bow and arrows. "Could you help me?"

Hermione sighed, but smiled. She did the same for him, as she did for herself.

"What are you doing," asked Gimli.

"A charm to call back our weapons." Hermione simply told him. No one had asked her again. She was only too happy for the peace and quiet.

After a while, Frodo, Legolas and Strider had asked for similar help. She was only too happy to help them. It was then Gandalf came to them.

"We have a small amount of time to leave. We should leave now, under the cover of darkness."

Hermione was only too happy that she had help getting the armor on. And not have taken it off. Along with the weapons that were attached to her. She took a drink of water she had. Then followed Gandalf, as he led them towards the gate.

Hermione with Frodo next to her, with Harry next to him. Then the other Hobbits and Gimli. With Legolas, Strider, and Boromir following after. She felt a small part of her, wanting to grab the ring. But not enough to want to.

She saw that Harry was struggling with the same issue. But he looked pained from the ordeal. She knew she wouldn't do it. Not when he had kept dark things from getting into his head, most of his Hogwarts life.

The journey was full of complaints. Most of it was from the Hobbits. Those that go by the names of Pippin and Merry. Sam did not complain as much. But Frodo, he did not talk much. And that worried Hermione the most.

Then there was Gimli, complaining about Elves being part of the fellowship. Something about the Elf had locked his father up. But Legolas being the better person, ignored it. Then there was Strider, a silent observer.

Hermione had a strange feeling that he was much more than just a ranger. It was not just the way he acts around people. But how he holds himself. The kind that has a ramrod back and stiff shoulders. But it is also how he ducks his head.

'He acts like a hidden noble. Trying to blend in with people that aren't noble.'

Then there were the two nobles. Both with ramrod backs, but held their heads high. These two were as different as night and day. One, quiet and gentle. The other, loud and center minded.

Gandalf, lost in his mind. He was focused on the mission at hand. Trying to weigh what was safer out of all the possible outcomes. Then lastly was Harry, he had been slightly distant since their revelation. Hermione knew it would take time.

'Hopefully it wouldn't take until one of us gets badly harmed. Before our friendship gets back to normal again. I love him, but not in the way we had wanted.'

They had stopped at an overlook. Before they were forced to hide, by some spy birds. It was when they were forced into the snowy mountains. Where Hermione cast warming charms on everyone. With a lightweight charm of her making on her boots.

Then followed everyone up the mountain. Only to find that the wind and snow were not the only ones with a sharp bite. But the sharp strange words that tried to take down the mountain on them.

After some choice words of where to go. Gandalf had finally said. "Frodo is the ring barer, he will tell us where to go."

"Moria, through the mines."

"So be it…"

It was enough to let Hermione know. No good would come to them. While they traveled through the mines.

'Merlin, be with us.'
