Roped Into Helping
Lady Countryrose
Ch. 11
Hermione had found that it was not more than an hour. When a couple of children came. Telling the group in the throne room about the attack on their small town. Èowyn had seen to the children's needs.
After a brief exchange of angered words. Théoden had finally heard them. Telling the group that they will hold their ground at Helms Deep. It was then Gandalf had left, telling Aragorn and Hermione to look to the east, on the dawn of the third day.
Hermione was getting heated by Gandalf and his riddles. Leaving her behind to clean the mess in his absence. 'I am going to tie him down by his beard, if he keeps on doing this.'
After a couple of hours. The group helped the people of Rohan pack up. Then made their way to Helms Deep. Hermione was able to have a horse of her own from the king. Since the horse belonged to his son.
"I am honored," she bowed to him.
Théoden had waved her off. "He is a good horse." He petted the horse's forehead. "He will do well to help someone in need. Then being cooped up in a stable."
Hermione took the reins of the horse. Looked at Théoden with sorrow. "Your son was a hero, King Théoden."
The king nodded his head, as a couple of tears left him. "That he was." Then he left her. She saw that he was not done mourning for his son.
Soon everyone had left Rohan. Taking the long journey to Helms Deep. Only to find an ambush and the loss of Aragorn. The journey has gotten to be too much. Even the emotions that played on Legolas and Gimli.
'Whatever God is found here. Bring back Aragorn, he has a lot of unfinished things to do.'
Hermione was then called into the throne room of Helms Deep. King Théoden wanted her close. After seeing her magic in action, as she had used her magic to save most of his people.
"Who are you, magic user," he growled at her. She knew it was because of Saruman that he was acting that way. But his eyes told her that he was grateful that she was there to save his people.
"I am Hermione Granger, sir. I am also Gandalf's apprentice." She saw that he was relieved with her last statement. "I will help where I can."
Théoden nodded his head. "I… must confess, I am not pleased with magic. Not after Saruman's dark hold on me. But you have proved your heart. When you help my people, I thank you."
He had taken a deep breath. "But you being of the fair sex, I can not allow you to fight." His eyes were full of authority, and he was going to use it on her.
"No, sir." Hermione had tried to be calm when she was dealing with him. "You are going to need all the able bodies for this upcoming war. If not the front lines, I refuse to hide. Where can I be of use?"
The King of Rohan had taken the time to think about it. "Next to me." His voice was an order and no room to argue with him.
Hermione gave a short bow. "Thank you, sir." It was then the door opened to the throne room. Only to see a beat up Aragorn coming in.
"Aragorn," Hermione gasped out. "I had only hoped."
"Work your magic," he smiled softly. As he gave her a soft hug.
Hermione nodded and waved her staff over him. His skin healed and became healthy looking. Before his ripped clothes mended themselves. He looked like he was fresh for another fight.
"What have I missed," he turned to her with a hint of humor.
Hermione huffed, "The usual of kings wishing to hide women with magic, from a war."
Aragorn turned to Théoden with determination in his eyes. "While I was out and about. I saw Saruman's army. They will be here by tomorrow night. We need anyone who can wield a weapon."
"Last I have remembered. It was I, Théoden, Rohan's king. Not Aragorn!" The man had gotten onto his feet. Looking defeated.
"Call for all able men and boys. Ready them for war," he ordered his captain. He then turned to Hermione. "I want you and Aragorn to walk the grounds with me."
Théoden led the two with the aid of his trusted men. Only for Hermione and Aragorn to see a couple of easy entries for their enemies. So, with a verbal fight with the King of Rohan. Hermione's hands were tied. There was nothing that she could do for the people, not when Théoden was in charge
