Roped Into Helping
Lady Countryrose
Ch. 12
Throughout the next and the next day. All the men and boys had armored themselves. Going through the steps to see if the weapons fit them.
Hermione wanted to wander off to see the guy's. But Théoden was true to his word, "Next to me." Was very literal. She only managed to slip away to state that she had to go potty. Which he ordered for her to come right back.
After a good fifteen-minute break from the king. She had run into Legolas after her bathroom usage. He cornered her before she had gone back to the throne room. Holding close in his arms.
"We will see pass tonight," he said, his forehead against hers. The scent of woods and sage welcomed her.
"We will see pass tonight," she echoed with a smile. Shortly after, they were met with Aragon and Gimli. Each giving her a hug and well wishes.
Before the captain had found her. "The king wants you at his side."
Hermione huffed but followed him. "I just wanted to see my friends before the war had started. At least one last time."
He nodded his head. "It is reasonable that you care for them." Then they entered the throne room. Only for him to prevent the king from yelling at her. "She wanted to see her friends once more, sire."
Théoden had taken a deep breath. "Forgive me, I have forgotten that you came here with friends. It is normal to seek them out, in the times of darkness."
Hermione gave him a thoughtful look. "It would be wise to seek out Èowyn. Before this nightmare starts."
She heard him get up onto his feet. Doing what she had told him. Leaving her alone. She found a place to sit and wait for the night to come. It was when she allowed herself some relaxation for the upcoming battle.
Only to find herself taking a quick nap. When Hermione had woken up. She was surprised to see the King of Rohan in the room with her, alone. Already in his battle armor.
He looked at her with focused eyes. "Witchling, tell me, what kind of king am I?"
Hermione sat up to look into his eyes. "I see a king, who will do anything for his people. But you must have an open mind. There are others that want the same."
Théoden nodded his head. "Come, war is nearly upon us."
Hermione had taken a deep breath. But followed him out of the deep. Onto the battlements next to him. With the only thing left to do, was wait.
Sometime within the night, a horn had sounded. Just as a few Elves had shown up. Aiding them with the battle. Making their way around the deep and adding aid where they can.
Then another horn sounded. Sounding like doom was at their gates. Rain had started to fall.
"And so it begins," stated Théoden, at the ready.
Hermione sighed. With her staff raised, she was ready for what came.
After hours of men and Elves against the Orcs. Fear seemed to have reached the King of Rohan.
"How did it come to this," asked Théoden in disbelief. Seeing bodies falling to the ground.
Hermione turned towards him. "Saruman is the one who declared war. You have little to no warning."
The man could only nod. Seeing sorrow in his eyes. Only to turn and see one of the enemies rushing at a gate. With water fed into the deep. Only to see at a split second of a bomb.
Hermione had no time to act. It blew up. Many came rushing in. Bringing the end to hope for Rohan.
Aragorn, Legolas and Gimli were hard at work. Trying to give everyone a chance to get to safety. Théoden had called for everyone to pull back. Making their way to the last set of doors.
Inside Fort Eorlingas, Uruks try to break through the inner door.
Théoden turned to those around him. "The fortress is taken. It is over."
Aragorn answered, "You said this fortress would never fall while your men defend it. They still defend it. They have died defending it!"
A loud bang at the door is heard. The women and children in the caves cower in fear.
Aragorn asked, "Is there no other way for the women and children to get out of the caves?"
The king and his men remain silent.
Aragorn growled, "Is there no other way?"
Gamling sighed, "There is one passage. It leads into the mountains. But they will not get far. The Uruk-hai, are too many."
Aragorn grabs Gamling by his shoulder. "Send word for the women and children to make for the mountain pass. And barricade the entrance!"
Théoden lost in his sorrow. "So much death. What can men do against such reckless hate?"
The Uruk-hai keep trying to break the door. THUMP!
Hermione yelled, "This is not the end! We can still fight!"
Aragorn jumped in. "Ride out with me."
Théoden turns to face Aragorn. Show his disbelief in what he had heard.
Aragorn spoke clearly. "Ride out and meet them."
Théoden growled, "For death and glory?"
Aragorn shook his head. "For Rohan. For your people."
Gimli stated, "The sun is rising."
Aragorn looks up to the window as the sun rises. Then turned to Hermione. Remembering what Gandalf had said. "Look to my coming at first light on the fifth day. At dawn, look to the East."
Théoden cried out. "Yes. Yes! The horn of Helm Hammerhand shall sound in the deep, one last time."
Gimli jumped to his feet. "Yes!" Gimli rushed off to climb up to blow the horn.
Théoden with determination on his face. "Let this be the hour when we draw swords together. Fell deeds awake. Now for wrath. Now for ruin. And the red dawn!"
Gimli blows into the horn and the doors give in. Everyone had climbed on their horses and charged.
Théoden declared, "Forð Eorlingas!" The King rides out with Aragorn, Legolas, Hermione and his men by his side. They fight as Gimli blows the horn.
The men fight down the causeway into the Uruk army. Aragorn stops and looks up. He sees Gandalf on the back of Shadowfax.
Aragorn yelled out, "Gandalf."
Théoden turns to look up. A gasp had left his lips.
Gandalf stated, "Théoden king stands alone."
Èomer rides up alongside Gandalf. "Not alone." Èomer draws his sword. Èomer yelled out, "Rohirrim!"
Théoden replied, "Èomer!"
Èomer cried out to arms. "To the king!"
Gandalf and the Rohirrim army charged down a hill to Uruk-hai. The Uruk-hai point their spears at them. But are blinded when the sun rises. They fought.
The world of darkness that faced Rohan, had ended. Giving Théoden and his people with new hope.
