Running, she was running, in the dark, bare foot.
She was running in the night, as fast as she could, as far as she could. She was breathing loudly, and she didn't know exactly where she was but it didn't matter anymore.
Breathing, she had to try to calm her breathing, but it was not possible. Her face was cover in sweat, blood and tears.
She was carrying the little boy in a thick blanket, holding him tightly against her chest, so tightly she even feared she was crushing his weak body.
Running, she was running, without knowing where she would end up. The first goal would be to reach the road where she might cross a car, or better a gas station maybe. It was too soon to project anything.
The only thing she had with her was the clothes their were wearing and their ID.
She didn't know for how long the other woman would be asleep, she didn't know if her plan had worked. But for what it worth, it had given her the push she needed to leave the living hell she was stuck in for years.
Totaly out of air, she stopped for a second. She just needed a minute to check on Matthew and to catch her breath.
« Hey little dude you're okay? » Arizona whispered not realising she was allow to speak normally. « You're so cute, aren't you ? »
The little boy who was exhausted smiled tiredly as she kissed his forehead and hoped they were going to be okay.
She was wearing only a plaid pajamas pants and a grey tank top, it was really cold outside but the adrenaline in her body wasn't letting her feel it.
Her foot and her ankles were red and bruised from the running throught the woods and the dirt road she had ran accross.
She was about to get back running when she felt dizzy. A crushing pain came from her head. She knew she must have shard of glass stuck in her scalp. She tuch it carefuly and felt a big one at the back of her head.
She knew she would have to be checked up and hope it was not serious. She also she'd better not touch it and let a real professional deal with it.
In another life time, she had been a resident at Seattle Grace Hospital. She had been good at her job. She had even been recruited by John Hopkins pediatrics department. But it was in another life time.
A deep inhalation, and there she was again, running.
Running away from her.
Running for her life.
Running, running, without looking back. She would end up somewhere, anywhere, and it would be better no matter what.
But suddenly everything stopped. The blinding lights, the noise of a car braking too late, and her body throwned on the hard cold tar.
…...
It was a slow night in the ER and she was on call.
She wasn't happy about that, she would have prefer to spend the night with her daughter, cuddling on the sofa. But right now, Sofia was with her abuelo and she was deeply sleeping.
It was already 4.00 and she had only 2 hours left before she get to go home and have a well deserved day off.
Her gaze wandering throught the space, her eyes stopped on the dark bronze sign she knew too well.
« In memory of Dr Alexandra Grey and Marcus Sloan. » and this is why the hospital was now named Grey Sloan Memorial.
It had been 3 years since that fateful crash who took the life of her best friend and father of her daughter and his soul mate.
She smiled sadly as she saw Meredith Grey, Alex Karev and Owen Hunt rushing to the entrance.
« Torres, we might need you. » the trauma surgeon. « On coming trauma, a woman and a toddler hit by a car. The ambulance should be there at any minute. ».
Callie followed the other surgeons to the ambulance bay as a nurse gave her a disposable gown and a pair of glasses.
It was always the same rush of adrenaline, between the excitment and the fears.
Blue lights were sparkling on the walls as the ambulance arrived in front ot the doctors, ready to take care of the two new patients.
« Female, mid thirties, found unconscious at the scene. Open fremur fracture, head concusion, multiple laceration, possible fractured shoulder. » Ben Warren informed his former colleague. « She was found with a little boy, approximatively 2 years old. He was wrapped in a thick comforter that might have attenuated his injury. »
Owen and Callie immediately took in charge the woman who was badly injured. She was almost disfigured, her eyes swollen and her face badly bruised.
« We need to get her to the OR now ! » Owen hunt yelled. « Any information about who they are ? »
« There was nothing. The driver who hit them saw them jumping in front of his course, they were apparently running throught the woods. » Ben explained as he accompanied them.
Alex Karev took the screaming toddler in charge immediately with Meredith, and they rushed to an exam room to treat him.
« They were running in the woods in the middle of the night ? That doesn't make any sense ! » Callie said, trying to compose herself.
She hated when children were involved in some grusome case like this one seemed to be.
« Wilson, check the missing person case. And call the police. » Callie asked her resident. « There is certainly someone looking after them ! »
As they were transferring the injured blonde stranger on the operating table, Owen noticed she was wearing a dog tag around her wrist on a thin leather bracelet.
« We may have some information... » he said as he showed Callie what he found.
« Robbins... Timothy Robbins... might be her husband. Take that wilson and find who is that man. »
Callie felt like an electric shock going throught her body.
She knew this name, She knew it but it couldn't be her.
She approached the bruised face of her patient and focused on the blondes lock of hair, cover in dirt and blood.
It was not possible...
She grabbed the woman arms and it's where she saw it, that little tatoo, so discret in the crook of her wrist. The two most important days of her life as she used to say.
Callie had just the time to turned back as she throw up, bending her body in shock.
...
« What ? You got a tatoo ? » she asked in disbelief. « Please tell me it's not ugly. »
« It's not ugly... » the blonde laughed. « and besides, I asked for it too be as tiny as possible. »
« Ok... » Callie replied, still doubting her girlfriends word. « Can I see ? »
« Sure... Here... » Arizona showed her wrist. « Two most important day in my life : Tim's birth, and the day I met you... »
...
« Torres, are you okay ? » Owen rushed to her side and helped her stood back up.
« It's her... It's her... » Callie mumbled. « It's Arizona. »
