« Hey! » The brunette said as she joined her at the table she was sitting at. « Arizona, right? »

« Yeah! So, you are Jamie? » The blonde asked.

She couldn't believe she was doing this. She didn't really want to. She was still totally in love with Callie Torres, but it was over.

Or at least for Callie. She had made it very clear she was moving on. She was flirting with a lot of people lately and it was making Arizona's pain almost unbearable.

But it was her life now. A new life she had to live without the love of her life.

Callie was so eager to see her leave Seattle that she had even pushed her to meet new people and had even arranged the date she was on right now.

She felt pathetic.

« I'm a surgery resident as you must know. » Arizona introduced herself as the brunette ordered a coffee. « I'm at the same hospital Callie works at. »

« I know, I know. » Jamie blinked. « she told me a lot about you. I know you two were a thing a long time ago. But you remained friends that's it? »

« Yeah... That's it... » Arizona said sadly. Four months ago they were everything to each other and now, even Callie was belittling their love story. « I'm taking my boards next month, then I will move to John Hopkins for my fellowship. »

« Really, that's great because I'm going to DC to start a new contract. I'm a soccer trainer and it would be lovely to actually know someone. I won't know anyone there... » Jamie said. « And you're beautiful by the way... I can't quite believe a lovely blue eyed blonde like you is still single? How so? »

« Well... I was focusing on my work I guess... » Arizona lied. « But I'm ready to focus on something else now... »

« Good... Good... Callie was right, you're quite a catch... » Jamie said.

Internally Arizona felt sick to her stomach. She felt like Callie had sold her like she would have sold a car...

« You want to go to the movies? » Arizona asked. She wanted to stop the pain and not think about Callie anymore.

« You bet I do... Torres was a fool to let you go... I'm paying! Let's go."

The next day, Callie was back at the hospital. She had managed to sleep and was relieved no one had called her. It meant things were stable at worst.

The first thing she did was go to the ICU where she found April, tears in her eyes, holding Arizona's hand.

The red headed surgeon was devastated like the other members of staff who had worked with Arizona years ago.
The peds resident was always perky and smiling when she was still one of their co-workers. She used to roller skate in the hallways, she was always there when you needed her.

But soon after she left for her fellowship, they had lost contact with her.

First, she had sent some texts every day, pictures and even a short video. But as the time passed, the texts got less and less. And then one day, her phone number became invalid.

« Hey... » Callie made her presence known quietly. « How is she today? »

« She briefly opened her eyes earlier, but it didn't last... » April explained.

« What? Why didn't anyone call me? » Callie reproached.

« Callie, it was really only a second. It was more a nervous spasm than anything else. » April replied, surprised by the concern Callie was showing.

She knew she still cared about her ex-girlfriend, but she also knew she was one of the few people who weren't really upset when Arizona was becoming more and more distant through her texts.

« I asked to be called if anything happened! Anything! »

« Callie, calm down, it was two hours ago, and I swear it was nothing major. » April repeated. « And to be honest, I'm a little surprised by your reaction. I mean I know you were a couple, but I didn't think it would upset you so much to see her back. »

« Kepner, you don't have any idea about what you are talking about so please, shut up... » Callie warned her.

« Okay, what is it? You want to... »

« That's enough! » Miranda ordered as he entered the room. « Kepner, you should go, in coming trauma, Hunt is waiting for you. »

April gave Callie a death glare before leaving. « This discussion is not over... »

« Cut it out Torres... » Miranda warned the brunette who was about to reply to April. « Sit down and listen. »

Callie did what she was told. She sat next to Arizona's head and took her hand in hers, resting it against her cheek.

« You didn't come to see Matthew. » Bailey stated.

« Who? »

« The little boy who was with Arizona. » Bailey reminded her. « I spoke to social services and made sure that I would foster him when he is ready to leave the hospital. I made them swear. »

« That's … That's great... » Callie said. She didn't know what to feel about the child. Was he Arizona's? He had her name, so...

« He's beautiful Callie, you have no idea. He has blue eyes and tanned skin; he's got curly dark brown hair. And he has her dimples. »

Picturing the toddler in her head made Callie's tears appear again.

« I can't Bailey. Not now... » Callie replied. « I want her to be ok. She has to be. »

« I'm sure she will be. » Miranda comforted her friend. « I'm sure that she was coming back to you, running from whatever hell she was living in. »

Miranda had lived through Callie's ups and downs after Arizona left for John Hopkins.

She was playing the girl who didn't care, but it was just a facade.

A few months after Arizona had gone, during a drunken night, she hooked up with her best friend, Mark Sloan. And that short tryst had resulted in Callie becoming pregnant with Sofia.

Things were clear right from the beginning between them. Callie and Mark would only coparent the baby. And that's when she was in an accident that almost killed her and her daughter that Callie had admitted she wanted only one person with her…Arizona.

She had told Mark, Miranda and Teddy. The poor woman was devastated and scared during her recovery. Unable to see her baby for weeks and an intensive PT who was asking a lot from her.

Mark had tried to find Arizona, so did Miranda. They had looked for her at Hopkins, but they were told that she had never attempted her fellowship.

During those horrible days, Arizona had apparently vanished from the face of the earth and Callie was still madly in love with her.

As the silence was only interrupted by the machine surrounding the blonde, Callie felt the fingers she was holding in her hand, tense suddenly. »

« She moved Bailey... » Callie smiled. « She's waking up! »

« Slow down Torres! » Miranda warned her friend.

« Arizona, You're okay honey. It's me, Callie. I'm here... I'm waiting for you... » Callie whispered. « Can you open your eyes for me? Please let me see your beautiful eyes... »

This time Miranda noticed Arizona was moving her head and her hands.

« Please page Dr Shepherd! She asked one of the nurses at the nearest station. « She's waking up! »

Blue eyes opened suddenly trying to focus but they were still swollen from the accident, and it made it very hard to focus.

« Oh my god, Bailey she's waking up! » Callie said, standing up from her chair. « It's okay Arizona, don't move. You're okay. You are intubated so don't try to talk. »

« Welcome back... » Miranda greeted her, tears rolling down her cheeks. « Matthew is here, he's okay, don't worry. »

Regaining consciousness Arizona began to panic. She couldn't move and everything hurt, she couldn't talk, she wasn't seeing clearly. The voices she was hearing seemed soothing and at the same time, familiar, but she couldn't get her brain to function properly.

She could feel a hand holding her and see a shape of a woman staring at her.

Amelia arrived as fast as she could and asked Bailey to let her examine Arizona.

« Arizona, are you with us? Can you hear me? » Amelia asked unsure if the blonde was really awakening. « Please squeeze my hand tight if you can hear me. »

Arizona did what the voice was telling her. Amelia took her torch and pointed it into blue eyes who blinked several times, her vision still blurred.

« Follow the light please... Great... Again... That's good! » Amelia smiled. « She's back! »

Callie offered Bailey a relieved smile, both of them crying silently.

« You had to be intubated, so I'm going to remove the tube now, okay? » Amelia warned. « I want you to take a deep breath and when I say, cough for me and I will take it out, Ready ? »

As the breathing tube was removed from her throat, Arizona felt the dryness in her mouth increase. She coughed, as Amelia adjusted the pain meds she was receiving.

When her breathing became more stable, Amelia checked her vitals, and then started to ask her some questions.

« Can you give me your name? »

The blonde looked around her slowly, she didn't know if she was in a safe place. She had been tricked so many times.

« Do you know what year it is? » Amelia asked.

Arizona nodded, and her lips began to quiver uncontrollably.

« P...PPP...Me... » was the only thing she could mumble.

Amelia looked at Callie silently asking her if she understood. The ortho surgeon shrugged, even she didn't get what Arizona was trying to say. »

« PP... PPPllllease... » Arizona begged with a hoarse voice.

« Hey, hey, it's okay, we got you... » Callie said, trying to reassure the scared woman.

« Arizona it's okay, take a breath. What are you trying to say? » Amelia insisted... »

« Hel... Help me, please... help me. She's going to kill me... »
