Arizona woke with a start. She woke up with a clear mind and a mission at hand. She made good progress with cleaning and organizing her room. She had it the way she wanted and the way she envisioned. She still had a few boxes to unpack and a few things to put away but that could wait till the weekend. Arizona made her way to the bathroom to brush her teeth and do her hair.
Once her hair and teeth were done with she made her way to her now neat and organized closet to find the perfect outfit. Today she settled on a red semi cropped shirt, black ripped skinny jeans and some red vans. She was a firm believer that your shoes always had to match your shirt. Always. Once she was happy with her appearance, she made her way downstairs. She was surprised to see her father home. He almost always was gone before she got up and home when she was already deep in sleep. She smiled before she gave him a quick kiss on the cheek and sat down next to him "Morning daddy" Arizona said with a smile as she poured herself some orange juice.
"Morning" Daniel said in a very monotone, yet stern voice. Arizona rolled her eyes. Always professional that one but deep down, well, not even deep down, he was a huge teddy bear and loved his family very much and was a big family man when he had the time to actually be home. Daniel looked at his daughter and huffed "Change Arizona, I don't like that shirt"
Arizona once again rolled her eyes and ate the pancakes her mother had made "Dad, it's not even that bad" Arizona said "I'm seventeen, not eleven. Mom, tell him" Arizona said with a smile. She knew at the end of the day she would get her way but she loved the banter that her and her family had.
"Well, I can see too much skin" Daniel said as he sipped his coffee "I'm sure you have shirts that cover your entire stomach, I am sure that your mother and myself have bought you full length shirts"
"I do have full length shirts, but none that would look good with these jeans, this is the only shirt that makes sense with these jeans dad, you just don't understand because you always wear your uniform" Arizona said with a smile. She nudged her father playfully and continued to eat her breakfast. She looked down at her phone and saw that Teddy had texted her and asked for a ride "Anyways parents, I am off to pick up a friend" Arizona said as she downed her orange juice and quickly took care of her dishes.
"A friend? Already?" Daniel said with a knowing look. He knew Arizona's track record when it came to dating. His daughter sure did like to date, she loved to care for someone "Does this friend happen to be a special friend?" Daniel asked as she finally turned to fully face his daughter "Your mother told me of this mysterious girl at school, is she who you happen to be picking up?"
Arizona huffed as she shoved her iphone in her back pocket "Really mom, some things are meant to be just between us girls" Arizona said as she grabbed her car keys "And no, i'm not picking up the mysterious girl, I am picking up my new friend, her name is Teddy and she's pretty cool. I will see you guys later tonight okay" Arizona said as she grabbed everything she needed before heading out to her car. She got in and sighed as she started it up. She loved the roar of the engine, she weirdly smiled every time she turned her car on. She was by no means a car freak but she loved her car and she wasn't ashamed.
Arizona pulled out of her driveway and made her way to Teddy's house via GPS. She paired her phone and turned on her morning commute playlist. She was bobbing her head to a song that was mindlessly playing in the back round. That's when she saw her, the girl they all call Torres. She saw the girl walking on the sidewalk literally reading a book. Never has she seen someone navigate the world around her while she was nose deep in a book. Arizona chuckled and pulled off to the side. She rolled her window down and shouted "Hey, I know you" Arizona said as she put the car in park. That's when her breath hitched. Deep brown eyes finally connected with her ocean blue eyes, she was beautiful and it seemed as if it came naturally to her. It made no sense to Arizona how people could be so cruel to this human, this beautiful human. Arizona got out of the car and jogged so she was now face to face with the girl "You're Torres right? We have AP biology together, first period" Arizona said with a smile "I'm Arizona" The blonde put her hand out in front of her hoping that the girl in front of her shook her hand.
Finally, after what felt like a million hours, the brown haired girl shook Arizona's hand "Uh, yeah, your the new girl" She said in a voice that was no more than a whisper "And my name is Callie, not Torres, I mean, it is my last name but not my first, so that makes my name Callie Torres" Callie said in a voice. She was a rambler, and judging that people don't really talk to her she wasn't sure how this conversation was going to go. She was sure that this was some kind of set up because that was always her luck when it came to people wanting to speak with her.
Arizona chuckled "Well Callie, yes I am the new girl, I was actually hoping someone could show me around town this weekend, and judging that today is Friday, because I guess here in Seattle the first day of school always falls on a Thursday, weird" Arizona said with a smile "But anyways, maybe we can hang out?" Arizona said. She looked at Callie with hopeful eyes and just as Callie was about to say something she heard someone call her name.
"Uhh, Arizona, wrong house" Teddy yelled from across the street.
Arizona whipped her head around to look at Teddy and as she turned back around to speak with Callie she was gone. Arizona huffed in defeat, damn she was fast.
Teddy ran over to the blonde and saw the look on her face "What's with the face?" Teddy asked as she threw her backpack into the jeep. She tried to look around to see what the blonde was looking at but she was coming up short "What are we looking for?" Teddy asked as she finally stood next to the blonde.
"Callie" Arizona said. She sighed and walked around to the drivers side before getting in, she waited for her friend to get in as well "She was walking and I stopped to talk to her and now she just vanished" Callie said as she put her car in drive. She knew she was asking for trouble by speaking with Teddy about Callie but she didn't care, why would she? She's allowed to be friends with whoever she wants.
"Callie? Really? Arizona, I told you to leave it alone" Teddy said as she pulled out her phone to text her boyfriend "Believe me, she will do nothing but bring you down in this school"
"Yeah, I don't really care, she seems sweet and she seems like she needs friend and if I can be that for her then I will" Arizona said as she made her way to the school "Besides, I don't know why you guys are so mean to her"
"Listen, I told you, she really has done nothing wrong, she's just the girl that this town pegged as the weird girl and it stuck and i'm not about to disrupt that" Teddy said "But, I can't tell you what to do and who to talk to, but just know that if people see you speaking with her they will start to talk about you and I don't know if I can defend you, i'll still be your friend but don't bring her around me"
"You sound so shallow" Arizona said annoyed "You have no real reason to hate this girl and yet you speak so nasty about her, its honestly so gross" Arizona said "I like you Teddy but your views are messed up because I am sure Callie is a nice girl who just wants to feel wanted" Arizona finally parked the car and got out. She didn't even care to lock it after Teddy, she just wanted to get into the building in hopes of finding Callie.
Arizona was speed walking, looking high and low for Callie, that's when it dawned on her, the library. Arizona made her way to the third floor where the library was. She peaked inside and saw Callie tucked away in the corner reading a book, they had about thirty minutes before the first bell rang. She walked over to Callie and sat down right in front of her "So, why'd you leave? We were talking" Arizona said with a smile.
Callie looked up from her book at the blonde that was now seated in front of her "Uh, your friend was coming, I figured you didn't want her to see you talking to me, so I ran" Callie said with shrug.
"I don't care who see's me talking to you Callie, i'm a big girl, I can be friends with whoever I want and I can talk to whoever I want" Arizona said with giggle and a smile "So, you never answered me about showing me around town"
"Uh, I can't" Callie said, she stood up and started to pack up her belongings "I'm sorry" Callie said as she practically ran out of the library.
Arizona let her gaze follow the girl as she exited the library. This girl really was a mystery to her. Arizona huffed, I mean come on, she gave Callie her best megawatt smile and even gave her the best Arizona charm. Arizona gathered her things and made her way to her first class, she was going to get Callie to like her even if it was the last thing she did.
"Hey blondie" Mark said as Arizona walked to their lab table "I hear you were talking to Torres, why?" Mark asked as he pulled out the needed material for the class.
Arizona rolled her eyes, she really wasn't in the mood, Callie seemed sweet and she was going to think that until Callie showed her otherwise "Well, for starters i'm talking to her because she's human and she seems cool" Arizona said "Why wouldn't I talk to her?" Arizona asked "I just don't understand why people hate her so much"
"You want a lesson in Torres" Mark said seriously "Well, lets go, skip class with me and I will tell you" Mark said with a challenging look.
Arizona laughed "I'm not missing class just to hear stories about Callie, i'm sure she isn't that bad"
"Well, she had a public freak out our freshman year, like full on screaming, crying, throwing things and she was taken away by police, it was weird, then she was labeled the crazy girl, we didn't see her again until our sophomore year and then she was always reading and talking to herself and never really changed her shirt. She wore the same shirt literally everyday and it was gross. Then junior year comes around and she's this whole new person, she tried so hard to be friends with everyone but the damage was already done, she was the weird girl and no one really wanted to be friends with her, so, a week passed and no one saw her but then she pops up again and she's wearing the same shirt again and talking to herself, so, I mean, she's just weird and I don't like her because of it" Mark said with shrug like it was the most obvious thing in the world.
Arizona sighed "So, you don't like her simply because she was obviously going through something and her outburst was a cry for help and everyone sat around and laughed at her rather than actually get to know her and see if she was alright, and you don't like her because she doesn't fit what you deem as normal" Arizona said shocked. She gathered her things and walked up to the teachers desk "May I please switch lab seats, I just can't work with Mark, I have goals and sitting at that table is going to make me fail" Arizona practically begged.
Mark and Teddy watched the blonde with confused looks. They had no clue where things went so wrong.
When she got the answer she was looking for she saw Callie sitting all alone at her very own lab table and plopped down right across from her "Well, hello there lab partner" Arizona said with a huge smile.
Callie looked up from her book "What are you doing? I always work alone" Callie said. She marked her book and set it down looking at the blonde who now sat across from her. She had no clue why this girl wanted to be her friend so bad and she couldn't help but feel like this was some type of set up. She has lived in Seattle since she was ten years old and she has known these people for basically her whole life and not one of them ever bothered to be her friend, so it was weird to know that someone actually wanted to speak with her.
"Well, now you are working with me" Arizona said as she pulled out notebooks for this class "Besides, I actually love to learn and I don't think I would get much learning done at my old lab table" Arizona said with a wink. She then focused her attention on the teacher that was now teaching at the front of the class.
After class Arizona walked side by side with Callie to her next class, she didn't even notice the looks she was getting by her fellow classmates and even if she did notice she wouldn't care at all "So, I know you said no the first time but i'm gonna ask again Callie" Arizona said as the pair stopped in front of what she assumed was Callie's next class "Show me around this weekend" The blonde flashed her world famous smile and hoped that Callie was going to change her mind, she when she heard Callie decline yet again and walk off she huffed and tried to shake the feeling. She was going to get Callie to be her friend. She didn't care how but it was going to happen.
Lunch rolled around and Arizona was sitting at the table scrolling mindlessly on her phone, while eating the lunch her mom had packed her, a salad, some fruit and a bag of chips. It wasn't until her phone was snatched out of her hand that she noticed people sitting at the table with her. Arizona looked up and saw Teddy, mark and some mystery girl that she hasn't met yet "Can I help you?" Arizona asked as she grabbed her phone from Marks hand.
"Why'd you leave us?" Teddy asked sadly.
Arizona tried hard not to roll her eyes. Teddy couldn't be that dense, she was there when mark was talking down on Callie "Because, you guys were being awful and I don't roll that way, I really want to be your guys' friend but I can't if you guys talk bad about a person who you don't really know, Callie is sweet, she just needs a friend" Arizona said as she looked at the people at her table. Arizona turned her head to look at the unfamiliar face that sat at the table "Also, hello, my name is Arizona, new girl" Arizona said and gave a tight lipped smile. For some reason she didn't like the vibes the other girl was giving off.
"Amelia"
"Well, it's nice to meet you" Arizona said with a smile "Are you a senior as well?" Arizona asked trying her hardest to be a good person.
"No, junior" Amelia said "Also, I heard you are trying to be friends with Torres, bad idea new kid" Amelia said as she shook her head "Believe me, I get you want to try and be noble or whatever or maybe you're some rich kid who likes to do charity work but Torres is no good, no good for this school and no good for you"
Arizona scoffed "Tell me this, have any of you actually tried to talk to her? To get to know her or have you based your opinion on her solely by the rumors you've heard about her? Because I hate to break it to you, rumors aren't always true"
"I know Callie's sister Aria, well, half sister" Amelia said "She tells me all the time how messed up Callie is, they don't get along at all, say's Callie is a real freak and even her parents don't like her" Amelia said with a shrug
"And where is this Aria?" Arizona asked "Because I'd like to talk to her" Arizona wasn't really going to speak with Callie's sister. She wanted to get to know Callie on her own.
"Miami with her mom" Amelia said "She was only here for a year, her mom said it was important for her to get to know her father. Callie's dad cheated on Callie's mom with Aria's mom and obviously she got pregnant, Callie's dad left for a bit but I guess Callie's mom forgave him because they are back together and seem to be doing fine" Amelia reached into her back pocket and grabbed her phone, she no longer really wanted to be in this conversation.
"Come on Arizona, come back to the table" Teddy basically begged "I promise to stop being mean to Tor...Callie" Teddy said as she crossed her heart.
"Nah, I think i'm gonna stick with Callie" Arizona said with a smile "But you should come over on Sunday and hang out" Arizona said as she packed up her stuff and walked out, there was twenty more minutes left of Senior lunch and she knew Callie would be in the library and she was going to convince the dark haired beauty to hang out with her.
Walking upstairs to the library Arizona saw Callie talking and laughing with the library clerk, she was an older lady, the sight was cute, it was the first time Arizona saw Callie smile and it did something to Arizona "Hey Callie" Arizona said as she walked in. That's when she saw Callie hide herself away again and it broke her heart, she knew it was going to take a lot for Callie to trust her but that was something she was willing to wait for and earn.
"Hello dear, my name is Mrs. Adams"
"Arizona Robbins, new girl" Arizona said with a bright smile.
"Well, it's nice to meet you, are you a friend of Callie's?" Mrs. Adams asked with a hopeful smile. She had worked at the school for many years and knew all about people being rude and hating on the brunette and it broke her heart because Callie was one of the most pure souls to ever walk the earth. Yes she did come with her own set of issues but who doesn't. Callie deserved friends and hopefully the blonde could be just that for her.
"Well, i'm hoping to be" Arizona said as she looked over at the brunette who was awkwardly standing by "But she keeps running away from me"
"I'm not running" Callie finally spoke up "I just don't know why you would want to be my friend" Callie finally admitted.
"Why not? I'm new and need new friends and you seem like the perfect friend" Arizona said with a smile.
"I'm sure you have heard the rumors about me, there is no way that you haven't" Callie said with a sad smile "So, excuse me if I don't believe that you have good intentions when it comes to wanting to be my friends"
Arizona's heart broke, she didn't see it from that point of view and she felt a little selfish, but now, hearing Callie be scared that she was trying to be her friend for some ill reason hurt her heart "Callie, please, there are a lot of things you'll learn about me and one of them is I don't believe rumors, I want to get to know you myself if you'll let me"
"But what about what people think?" Callie said as she finally looked into Arizona's eyes.
Arizona gave a small laugh "I don't care what people think Callie, I am a big girl and if people want to talk people are going to talk" Arizona said with a shrug "So, I am going to ask one more time, will you please hang out with me and show me around the city?"
"Okay" Callie said with a small smile.
"Okay, great" Arizona looked at the time, she had to start heading to her next class "Meet me in the school parking lot at noon tomorrow, okay?" Arizona said as she started to back away while still looking at the brunette.
"Okay" Callie said.
And with that Arizona turned around and walked to her next class.
Operation be friends with Callie was almost complete. Now all she could do was hope that Callie showed up tomorrow.
