Silence hung heavy over the table as each of us stared across the table at our significant other. The tension was palpable and you could cut it with a knife. I looked over at Sam who was sitting by Robby's side looked rather uncomfortable around her. Robby was looking at his plate or at least I thought until I felt a foot rubbing up and down my leg. I kicked out towards the leg to which the foot was attached.

I heard a muffled cry of pain come from the opposite direction of which I thought it would come. It wasn't Robby muffling the cry. No. It was Sam's father.

I looked in the direction of Sam's mother and could see a look of uncomprehending understanding coming over her face as she pulled her chair back.

A look of misunderstanding confusion crossed Robby's face as he looked at Miguel who was happily chomping away on some snacks. Too busy to notice that his boyfriend thought he was playing footsy with him while doing so with Sensei LaRusso's wife.

"Um…why are we all here, Johnny?" Sensei LaRusso asked, fidgeting in his chair.

"That's a good question," Miguel's mother said, turning to look at her boyfriend. "Why are we all here?"

"Well, it has come to my attention that…."

"Whatever you heard it's not true," Robby said, blushing a deep red that went all the way up to his hair. "Unless it's good. Then it is true."

Miguel looked up from his snacking in confusion. He met Robby's eye with a look that was begging explanation. While Robby was nodding towards his father as though that explained everything.

"Why would I hear something that wasn't good?" Sensei Lawerence asked, looking at his son not understanding what he was afraid of.

"Robby has a very checkered past," Mrs. LaRusso said, looking between Robby and Miguel who were still having their silent conversation. "I think that's what he's referring to."

"But it's not what I was referring to." He took in the table at large. "It has come to my attention that each of you at this table is hiding something from someone here. I've brought us here to share…."

"Johnny Lawerence wants to share?" Mr. LaRusso said, probably hoping that everyone would avoid the color that was creeping into his face after I had made him yet again yelp in pain while he tried to play footsy with me probably thinking I was his wife.

"Do you have something you want to share, Daniel?" his wife asked, looking at him pointedly.

"No. Do you?"

"If she doesn't I'm sure that Robby does," Miguel said, putting his snack down and looking between Robby and Mrs. LaRusso.

"What does that mean?" Mrs. LaRusso asked, looking at Miguel.

"Like you don't know, Mrs. Robinson."

"That's Mrs. LaRusso," Sensei Lawerence pointed out trying to be helpful.

Everyone else seemed to get the reference and was now staring between Mrs. LaRusso, Miguel, and Mr. LaRusso.

"If my mother's Mrs. Robinson then my father is Mr. Robinson," Sam pointed out, glaring at her father after feeling his foot slip between hers and mine.

"What?" Mr. LaRusso asked, looking at her.

"Tell me you aren't playing footsy with my girlfriend."

"Girlfriend?" both LaRusso parents asked at the same time, turning their attention to their daughter.

Sam realizing what she said blushed and lowered her gaze to her plate. I couldn't help but look over at her in shock. I hadn't expected her to just blurt it out like that. Or for her to end up looking like she was now. It almost seemed like she was embarrassed to be dating me.

"Are embarrassed about us?" I asked her.

"No," she said, looking over at me. "It's just I hadn't told my parents about us yet."

"You're dating her?" Mr. LaRusso asked, pointing at me.

"Hey," I said turning towards him, "you were the one playing footsy with me all night long."

"I thought you were my wife," he said, looking between me and his daughter.

"Who is all the way at the end of the table near Sensei Lawerence and Miguel's mother."

"Anyone else want to share?" Sensei Lawerence asked, looking pleading at Miguel's mother Carmen to help change the subject or subjects as it were. "Anyone?"

"Hon, I think there's been far too much sharing as it is," Carmen said, putting her hand on Sensei Lawerence's arm. "But it was a nice try at getting everyone to be on the same page."

I looked incredulously at Mr. LaRusso as he yet again brushed his foot against mine. "Sensei Lawerence, Sensei LaRusso is…."

"No. I'm not."

"Yes. You are."

"Yes. He is."

"I've got an idea," Sensei Lawerence said, motioning for everyone to stand up. He motioned for everyone else to stand up causing some of us to sigh in relief thinking the ordeal was over. "Miguel you move over her next to Robby. Sam take the seat that Miguel had next to Tory." He leaned towards Carmen who'd tapped his shoulder. "On second thought. You take the chair your father is sitting in. Daniel sit down here next to wife, please, and stop playing footsy with my students."

"I wasn't playing…."

Everyone looked at him unblinkingly before Daniel LaRusso moved towards the chair next to his wife.

"Does this seem more acceptable for everyone?" he asked, looking around the table.

Everyone nodded.

"Good," Sensei Lawerence said, nodding for us all to sit down and continue our conversation. "By the way, Robby, I do know that you Miguel are seeing each other. I'm not that stupid." He turned to Miguel and watched him for a second. "Don't hurt my boy. I don't want to have to hurt you."

"Don't you dare threaten my son, Johnny," yelled Carmen.

"Wanna sneak away to the beach?" I asked Sam as the dinner broke down into an all-out fight over nothing in particular.

"Sure," she said, smirking as she laced her fingers with mine and we walked off together into the evening. "Was my dad really playing footsy with you this entire time?"

I hope you all Enjoyed An All-Out Battle Dinner as much as I enjoyed writing it.
