Miguel and I talked about our hopes for Valentine's Day as we walked down the hall towards my locker. I wasn't sure that Sam would show up for the picnic that I'd prepared with Miguel's help. Miguel wasn't sure that Robby would like the poem that I'd helped him write. Neither one of us was very confident in our efforts paying off.
"Looks like someone tried to break into your locker," Aisha said, said, motioning towards the locker where my school books were kept.
"What?" I asked, racing towards my locker. It was like there was anything important in there. Just school books which could easily be replaced. Although I would feel kind of bad having to have my mother pay for them. We were barely making ends meet as it was.
When I got to the locker I could see that someone had indeed seemed to have tried breaking into my locker. There was a rather bad dent from a crowbar or something. But the lock was still intact. Thank God.
I quickly turned the dial and put my combination in. Making sure that no one was looking. I didn't need another break-in thank you. When I finally got the door open I was shocked to find a nice big heart-shaped box of chocolates waiting there with a note on top of them.
"A box of chocolates broke into your locker?" Miguel asked, laughing as Aisha punched him in the arm.
"What does the note say?" she asked, turning my attention to the piece of paper on top of the box.
I quickly lifted it and read the message that was written upon the paper in Sam's familiar handwriting.
Tory,
First, let m start off by apologizing for the dent in your locker. I asked Robby for help in putting the chocolates in your locker. He got frustrated when the combination wouldn't work and tried to use a crowbar to open it. I ended up texting Aisha for your locker combination in order to stop him from outright tearing the door off.
I don't know if you realized how much fun I had a few days ago when we were at the beach. When you returned my notebook. But it was one of the best days of my life. I really got to know and like you. I'm not sure what you are doing this evening. But if you are free maybe we can….I don't know….meet up at the beach or something. Either way, just send word through Aisha. Okay.
Love,
Sam
I blinked in shock. Had she just asked me out in much the same way as I had just asked her out? Without the chocolates that is.
"So?" Aisha said, grinning at me. "What do I tell Sam?"
Out of nowhere, I hear a loud shriek of joy followed by a couple of yeses. Sam must have gotten to the last part of my poem. I smirked as I looked over at where Miguel and Robby were talking.
"Tell her I said yes," I said, watching as Miguel pulled Robby into a kiss. I let out a wolf whistle as I watched them hoping that perhaps later tonight I would end up getting a kiss much like that.
I hope you all enjoyed Chocolate Break In as much as I enjoyed writing it.
