The cool water of the LaRusso family pool against my feet felt welcoming after a long day of school, karate, and making plans for the evening with Sam earlier. We'd originally planned to go swimming but as I mentioned beforehand karate practice was called directly after school. This didn't leave a lot of time for me to go home and grab my swimsuit. So we ended up sitting by the pool and talking about our day and everything else we could think of under the sun that there was to talk. That's when Sam said those three little words that everyone in a relationship wants to hear.

"I love you," Sam whispered as she leaned toward me.

Her actions were so sudden and out of nowhere. I knew we'd been building up to those three words becoming part of our relationship. I knew that they'd probably be said before a kiss but I never imagined in my entire life that those three words would be said before our first kiss.

The gentle brush of her lips against mine brought an entirely indefinable feeling into my entire body. The fire of something I couldn't quite put my finger on was lit. I knew if I didn't stop the kiss soon we would be pulled into something that neither of us was ready for.

"What's wrong?" Sam asked when I pulled away from the kiss.

"Nothing," I said, putting a hand gently against her cheek and looking into her grey-blue eyes. "I just don't want to ruin this moment with something that neither of us is entirely ready for."

"How do you know that we're not ready for it?"

"Sam, our relationship is just so new. I've rushed things like this before and it didn't end up really great. So, I'd rather go…."

"Slow?"

I nodded. I could see her turning the thought over and over in her mind. Like the wheels of some great machine turning at its task. I hope she would see things my way. I truly did. I loved Sam as much as she loved me.

She smiled and nodded. "I don't think going slow should be a problem at all," she said, grinning and grabbing my hand.

"You do know that I love you too, right?" I asked her, causing her to look at me in shock.

"I just wasn't expecting to hear it back as quickly as this. Especially after the whole let's take it slow thing."

"Just because we're taking things slow physically doesn't mean we have to take things slow emotionally."

She nodded. Lacing her finger through mine she pulled me towards her living room where she'd set up snacks and a large stack of movies for us to watch.

As we settled down to watch Love Actually I couldn't help but think that this would be an evening that I would never forget as long as I lived. That and this indefinable feeling of pure love that now existed between us.

I hope you all enjoyed Love Confessions and First Kisses as much as I enjoyed writing.
