"Why do you and Sam have us all dressed up like this?" Robby asked, looking around the room at everyone dressed in mid-1920's garb. "Not that this suit doesn't make me look amazing or anything but…."
"Makes you look super fucking dapper, babe," Miguel said, putting his arm around Robby possessively.
Robby gave Miguel that annoyed look that usually gives him when he acts all possessive of him. But he didn't comment. Everyone knows he secretly enjoys possessive Miguel. It's one of his dirty little secrets.
"Well, we figured this year for Holloween instead of throwing some tired old-school Halloween party we'd instead host a game night," Sam said, sidling up to my said and showing her own possessive side.
"A murder mystery game night," I said, throwing my arm around Sam's waist and holding her close.
"Oh," said, Miguel, looking over to where Hawk and Demetri were talking with Yasmine and Moon. "Who's the killer?"
"That would be telling, Miggy," I said, using his mother's nickname against him and causing him to blush.
"Miggy?" Robby asked, looking between Miguel and me. "Is this something from when you and Tory used to date?"
Miguel mumbled something that only I could make out as being his mother's nickname for him. I could tell neither Robby nor Sam could understand what had been said.
"Repeat that slower," Robby said, raising an eyebrow and still glaring daggers between myself and Miguel, "and a little bit clearer."
"It's my mother's nickname for me," Miguel said, blushing even harder if that was possible without looking like a tomato.
"Oh. Sorry."
"Is everyone here?" Sam asked, looking around the small group that we'd gathered.
Her parents, brother, Miguel's mother, Sensei Lawerence, Aisha, Hawk, Moon, Demetri, Yasmine, Robby, and Miguel were all in the room. The only person that was missing was the person playing our murder victim. Where was frickin' Stingray when you needed him?
"Am I late?" Stingray said, walking into the room in one of the horrible ghost costumes that are basically a sheet with holes cut in for the eyes and mouth. It wasn't even a white sheet either. It was a pink and flower-patterned sheet.
"Stingray, can I talk to you over here for a bit?" I asked, motioning for him to follow Sam and me out to the LaRusso family pool. "What are you dressed as?"
"A ghost obviously," he answered, motioning towards the costume. "I made it with my own two hands. Do you like it?"
"It's very nice, Stingray," Sam said, smiling in a friendly manner that is her entire personality. "But when we asked you to be the murder victim we were thinking more like pre-ghost."
"You mean like this?" Stingray said, pulling the sheet off his head and revealing a 1920's get-up much like the ones you'd see in a gangster movie.
"That's better," I said, watching as he folded up the sheet but still kept it with him. I raised an eyebrow at him.
"For after I"m killed," he said, winking. "Ready-made ghost costume so that I can take part in the fun too."
"Sounds fair enough," Sam said, breaking in before I could say anything hurtful. Not that that was what I was going to do. I do tend to think things over more than people give me credit for, you know? "Why don't we head in and begin the game?"
"Yeah," I said, taking her hand and leading the way into the room.
She must have planned this a little bit ahead of time because as soon as Stingray entered the room the lights went out and a gunshot was heard. One of the girls screamed or at least what I thought was one of the girls. It turned out to be Miguel who was being comforted by Robby when the lights went back on.
"Murder is afoot!" exclaimed Demetri looking at the pretend dead body of Stingray who was trying to wriggle into his ghost costume.
"But who dun it?" I asked, looking around the room. "It could be anyone in this room and for any reason. Let the game begin!"
I hope you all enjoyed the beginning of Murder in the LaRusso Home as much as I enjoyed writing it. Will be continued in another one-shot later on in the story.
