Daniel stood in front of Ninetales, after the two had their breakfast, it was time to learn a couple of things about the new creature in front of him. "Okay Ninetales, can you stand on your hind legs and walk towards me?" Daniel asked. The fox looked nervous again, unsure of whether or not he could do that. Despite this, Ninetales decided to give it a shot, and got a couple of steps before losing his balance. He came tumbling towards the ground, with a defeated whine. Ninetales stood up, only to see Daniel crouched before him. "Are you alright?" He asked. Ninetales nodded, but brought his eyes down to his paws. The first thing his new human wanted was a trick, which he couldn't do. "Hey, what's with you being upset all of a sudden?" Daniel asked. The boy reached out and placed his hand under Ninetales' chin, and angled the Pokemon's gaze towards him.
Ninetales flattened his ears as he awaited what would happen to him. Instead of being berated or smacked, the Ninetales found his jaw being rubbed. He looked into Daniel's eyes, and there wasn't a hint of frustration or disappointment in them. On the other hand, Daniel was just taking a moment to get a good look at the fox. Its facial structure was very similar to that of a dog, but maybe a bit rounder on the edges. His snout was quite a bit longer and narrower than a golden retriever's, or any dogs' for that matter. Obviously the red eyes stood out the most, which were currently filled with a sad, worried look to them. "You don't gotta feel like you failed me for not knowing how to do something," Daniel finally said. "Ninetales," the fox kept its gaze fixed on the boy.
Maybe this is what it's like to have a dog, a humanly smart dog, but a dog nonetheless. Was loving your new pet instantly normal? Daniel probably guessed how he felt about Ninetales was due to it being a Pokemon. Maybe it was just the fact that loving an animal was something that just comes quick. How could he know? He just stood and rubbed his Pokemon's jaw for a couple of minutes as their world almost froze. "You're pretty cute y'know," Daniel broke the silence. Ninetales closed his eyes and let the boy's words sink in. The fox simply smiled and pulled away from Daniel's hand. "Ninetales!" The Pokemon backed up and got on his hindlegs again. Despite his efforts, he still only got a couple steps in before falling again. This time, instead of hitting the ground, he landed in Daniel's arms.
Ninetales sighed again at not being able to do the trick his human had asked him to do. Though this time he wasn't nearly as hard on himself about it. He was gently lowered onto his back by Daniel, and quickly got back on his feet once he was released. "You did better this time," Daniel said with a grin. Ninetales nodded before sitting down, happy with himself, knowing that he got his trainer to grin at least. "Can you do that thing with your telekinesis again?" Ninetales nodded. The fox's tails fanned out behind him as his focus turned onto a pebble. With ease, he lifted the stone up off the ground and brought it over to Daniel. "Now that, that is cool," Daniel then reached out for the rock, which was quickly taken out of reach. Ninetales summoned a wisp around the pebble, and held it in place.
In a matter of a couple minutes, the rock was burnt to a crisp, and settled in the fire pit. Daniel clapped his hands and wrapped around Ninetales. "That was awesome!" The Ninetales barked happily. He had just impressed his human for the first time. "Ninetales," the Pokemon laid his head against his human's shoulder. It felt nice, just having a trainer, which was why he was being so friendly to the boy. It wasn't for food, it really wasn't even because he had seemingly been put into this world without warning. Ninetales had spent far too long alone, which eventually got to the fox, and now here he was with a human of his own. Might not be his world, but he didn't mind. Then, out of nowhere, Ninetales moved his head as quickly as he could, and licked his human's cheek.
"Whoa there, hold the romance for later buddy," Daniel joked before patting the fox's head. All of a sudden, Ninetales freed himself from the human's grasps and started staring at the tree line. "Is… something wrong?" Ninetales didn't even break his focus on the trees. Daniel quickly swiped a pocket knife out of his bag and joined his friend's side. "Ninetales!" the fox barked a bunch. The bushes started rustling and a small little animal came out, but didn't resemble any rodent Daniel had seen. "Zigzagoon!" The little Pokemon ran back into the treeline after realizing the situation he just found himself in. "What in the fuck….?" Was that another Pokemon? It looked like one from the show and it said a word that sounded like a Pokemon's name.
Ninetales began to relax again, plopping himself right by the firepit, and let out a yawn. "Was that a Pokemon?" Daniel asked. The fox looked at him, like he was dumb, before nodding. Maybe this world had a lot less in common than he had thought; the average person in his world would've known that it was a ZigZagoon. "Good to know," Daniel said. He sat next to Ninetales, who was quick to use his shoulder as a pillow. "God this week just gets weirder and weirder," Daniel chuckled to him. "Ninetales," the fox yawned again. "You wanna play or something? We've got the whole day to kill," Ninetales quickly gained a sudden burst of energy and jumped around the boy. "I.. will take that as a yes," Daniel stood up before looking around. He remembered that he didn't prepare this trip, like tennis balls or toys, while expecting to find what was essentially a fire breathing fox.
The boy was then promptly tackled by Ninetales, who quickly jumped and pranced around him. "Oh, now you asked for it," Daniel said. The fox got close to him, and was promptly snatched by his trainer. "Ninetales!" Ninetales was shocked at how quickly he was swept off his feet. "Gotcha!" Daniel grinned as he was quickly shoved off by Ninetales, who then pinned him down. Ninetales then triumphantly got off of his human, and pranced around the camp again. They rinsed and repeated their little improvised game a bunch. Most of the time it ended with Daniel pinned to the ground by his Pokemon, but he didn't mind it at all. Around the tenth time, Daniel tried to tackle Ninetales again, and missed his Pokemon's body. The fox yelped as his trainer accidentally tugged on his tails. "Oh shit!" Daniel knew what he had just done, and got up to check on his Pokemon.
"I'm sorry!' Daniel pulled his Ninetales into a hug, who was still whimpering and crying from the burning feeling that flared up. The fox then pushed his human to the ground and growled at him with murderous eyes. "I'm so sorry," Daniel approached Ninetales, who didn't show any aggression. "Nine!" The fox scoffed before its usual friendly face returned. Ninetales let Daniel hug him, then nipped at him. "Ninetales!" The fox proudly knew he got his revenge when his human yelped. "Alright I get it! I'll be careful with your tails!" Ninetales laid his head on his human's shoulder to let him know everything was forgiven. Sure his tails were basically off limits, but they weren't murdering his human over. The fox then wrapped said tails around his trainer. "Ninetales!" Ninetales then closed his eyes, and decided to let Daniel process what had happened on its own. "Wha…?" The boy decided not to question why his Ninetales decided to do what he had done, but he didn't mind it. This was surprisingly cozy. "I guess you wanna nap until lunch then," Daniel said before beginning to sit back and relax.
The two remained like this before they decided that it was time to get some food in their systems; a quick sandwich for the two of them. "So you wanna go back to playing or… what?" Daniel was then answered when Ninetales tackled him, before padding around camp. "So you wanna play that game earlier," Daniel said. The fox barked when he was tackled, and didn't bother trying to push his human off of him. Instead, he simply laid their and pretended to be dead. "Hey now, I'm not stupid," Daniel got closer to the Ninetales' face. "C'mon, get up,' Daniel patted his Pokemon. Ninetales then shot his head up and licked the boy's face. "Knew it!" Daniel laughed as Ninetales rolled out from under him, and pinned him down. "Nine!" The fox's tails wagged before letting off his trainer.
"You're a really neat fox, y'know?" Daniel wheezed. Ninetales sat by his trainer's side and made Daniel lean onto his shoulder. Ninetales didn't even usher a sound; he was very relaxed. There wasn't a care in the world for the fox. What more could he want? "Hey Ninetales, I'm going to pack up camp," Daniel said. Ninetales groaned when his human forced him to get up. "I know I know, you don't want to get up, but I wanna head home. I need to watch the news because you just kind of… showed up out of nowhere. Usually a fire breathing fox doesn't just show up and start being your best friend, y'know?" Daniel quickly took down his tent. Ninetales blinked for a couple of seconds and processed what was said.
Were Ninetales not a thing? He knows that he wasn't in the same place, but how were pokemon uncommon in this world? With how reliant people were on them, how could they survive without a pokemon? "Alrighty. If you don't got anything you wanna take with you, we're gonna start heading back to the camp's lodge. Then we'll pile into my car and head home," Daniel said. The boy slung his backpack's staps onto his shoulders and beckoned the Ninetales to follow him. Without second thought, the two started heading towards the same direction. If pokemon weren't a thing in this world, how would the camp's rangers react to a nine tailed fox? How would they react if they were fans of Pokemon and immediately caught onto what the fox was?
Whatever the question maybe, Daniel just knew he needed to head home. He couldn't think of anything over his day with Ninetales, since he was too busy playing, and napping with the thing. So there wasn't a doubt in his mind that he couldn't come up with anything by tomorrow afternoon, when he was supposed to leave. What will happen will happen, he just hoped it didn't end with him dead. Daniel also hoped it would end with him being able to keep Ninetales, it's only been about a day, but he likes having the fox around. Ninetales was like a hypersmart dog, that just happens to be able to breathe fire and has telekinesis. "Hey!" Daniel stopped when he saw what looked like a park ranger running towards him and Ninetales, who was yelling his head off as he approached.
