A/N: Come one, come all fellow hyperdimension fans and newcomers that are just now getting into the series.
This concept was thought of to be a fan series that me and a few friends of mine decided to make; the series being named Alterdimension which takes place in a separate timeline apart from the hyperdimension timeline. I've come to a conclusion that this would be a great opportunity to introduce the conception of the series including the introduction of 6-8 new characters, all of which being original characters with decent character development and even new or returning antagonists in the series.
Let me know what your thoughts are on the first chapter as well as the concept in general as I'll be trying to keep this story as consistent in writing and plot as much as I possibly can. At points in the story, most of the characters will be illustrated from either a first person or third person point of view to give more attention to their perspective towards the story. This is to give the story more depth towards the situation in which most of the characters will find themselves in. Once again, let me know what you think of the first chapter and without let me know what you think of the story. Without further ado, here's the story of Alterdimension Neptunia.
Prologue (Chapter 00 ) - "Discontinuity of Memory."
Alterdimension OST - Track 002 (Prologue)
The world hovered in a state of unending calm. Perpetually ephemeral, it seemed to softly glow an inoffensive gray as brief motes of light glittered in the distance. Seconds, minutes, years, centuries, any amount of time could have passed in this unbounded space. There was no 'where', no 'when', no 'self' nor 'other'. Everything simply was.
Who are you?
Who was who? Who asked that question? To whom were they asking the question? Though the three words were but a memory now, their ripples echoed and swam, irritating disturbances in the otherwise placid sea.
The realization that I was a thing, separate from the world that surrounded and engulfed me, was impossible to deny now. And even accepting my existence did not quiet that unfortunate urge- now I felt my thoughts tugging at the question now. Who am I? What was my name? Why was I here? What did I look like?
I seized that last question in a bid to silence the ceaseless echoes and prayed that they would recede away and permit me to return. Right, what did I look like… I was… I was…
"Who...who am I...?"
A voice rang out within the echo yet hollow enchanting space. Many bright flashes of what appeared to be red lights gleamed throughout my subconscious, what was this?
"It's no use...I can't remember anything..."
Why couldn't I? Why… couldn't I remember anything? Why was everything turning up blank? I was so used to remembering something and having it just… turn up, right? Why was there… nothing?
A mote of light flashed out of existence, turning into a formless blob that slowly grew. Glacially, limbs stretched out and gained definition, a rudimentary head formed and extruded something approximating hair, and swathes of skin shifted and molted into clothes. Unfortunately, the patchwork mutations did little to coordinate with each other, turning the figure into an unrecognizable mess of a figure.
It halted its growth and transformation and I began to sculpt it. The hair was first to warp, elongated into its long but not unruly form that wrapped around the head. I willed each blonde strand into its proper location, sweeping the ends to the side- who had first cut it this way?
I pushed the unbidden question out of the way and turned my attention to the eyes. Bright blue In color, burning like pools of blood against the pale skin. it was an unfortunate comparison, but the reason why eluded me. Before I moved on, I was able to remember something; a name. Who's name was it? Every time I tried to examine my thoughts, they fled away like the constellations in the motes of light. I kept feeling fragments of emotion, hints of history in the furthest corners of my mind, all which scurried away or evaporated the moment I tried to seize and inspect them. What was going on?
Then I heard it, that name...
A faint clinking reverberated throughout the world and made my thoughts freeze. This was the first actual sound I had heard. What was causing it?
My lips uttered in desperation to make a sound, then again and again until eventually I would mutter a word, two possibly that would cause confusion within myself.
Ze...ro...?
Is...that my name? If so, why was my memory so hazy? I could recall a memory that seemed everlasting, that name burned itself into my conscious whilst I pondered the possibilities of who it belonged to. My conscious soon found itself to be accepting of this name my mind deemed familiar, it was ultimately mine in the end.
"That's right...my name is...'Zero'...
Through the dense fog of my thoughts, something in the back of my mind told me that this…wasn't the first time I relived this scenario. I tried to respond, but as the world around me came into focus, I could start to see the woman more clearly, her platinum blond hair bordered by a grey-fringed hood, her blue eyes staring down at me with no hint or mark of emotion.
"-ct."
A voice? It was the woman's. More so, her words echoed throughout the confined spaces between the edges of my mind. She repeated herself until the words eventually forced itself into my maelstrom but fell upon deaf ears, the more she spoke, the hollow her voice would become.
I heard it again, this time it sounded a bit more clear, almost there but not exactly. My mind burned with questions, with desperately forming plans, what is she trying to tell you? who is this woman? why am I here? what is your purpose?
Then, she repeated the word again...
"-tect."
My individual thoughts burned and blurred together, the individual words becoming incomprehensible and indecipherable. What is she saying? It was impossible to think of anything besides what this mystery woman was trying to tell me now. They kept looping over and over and over, again and again and again, searing into my mind until eventually her voice became ultimately clear.
"Protect."
That was the word I had heard, the word that sent a quivering message of hope throughout my body. That was the single word forced its way through my mental maelstrom which made it impossible for me to think of anything besides that word now.
Just as quickly as the moment of hope sprung from my mind, it came crashing down around me. My conscious cleared itself, grabbing at everything it could to force me back down into the depths. In the space of a heartbeat, I found myself sinking deeper and deeper, further and further down up to the rapidly dimming light.
The crushing darkness closed in around me.
A/N: Hey reader, author here. So as you may know the first chapter was out before this one, I decided to change the first chapter completely due to cliche story writing and subtle foreshadowing that I didn't feel would fit well with the story. I will try to better myself with story progression and try to make the story correlate with most of the plot I have planned, author out!
