Hurricane Sam

Chapter 1

"Hey, Cupcake," Sam Puckett said cheerfully to Carly as she rounded the corner where their lockers were located. She knew Carly loved it when she called her by that nickname. She had called Carly that since they were little because it was one of Carly's favorite desserts. And one of Sam's as well.

Carly Shay turned to Sam with a smile on her face. As soon as she heard the blonde girl's voice, Carly's heartbeat sped up and a blush involuntarily spread across her face. "Hey, Sam," Carly replied, beaming at her friend. "You coming over tonight?" God, she's so beautiful, Carly thought. That long, curly blonde hair. Those piercing blue eyes. Those curves. She also, for some reason, found it adorable that Sam was just a couple inches shorter than her. Sam filled her thoughts day and night. She loved everything about Sam. Her looks, her personality, her confidence, her sweet side that only Carly got to see. Her playful, mischievous side. The way Sam was so protective of her. Even her name. Sam. My Sam.

"Wouldn't miss it," Sam replied with a smile. It was their weekend ritual of Sam spending the night at Carly's apartment. Sam had spent a lot of time there ever since the two became best friends at the age of eight. She spent at least half of her time there since her home life wasn't the greatest. Carly knew some of the details but not all of them. Of course, the brunette would want Sam with her as much as possible just because it was Sam, her best friend. The two had practically been inseparable since the day they first met eight years ago but Carly had started to recognize that she had more than friendly feelings towards Sam over the past few years.

The two 16-year-olds couldn't be more of an odd couple. Complete opposites. Sam was strong, tough, rude, sarcastic, a tomboy and had a complete disregard for rules in general. She didn't give a crap about what people thought about her (except Carly) and she was feared by most of the kids at school. Always pulling pranks and getting in trouble. She had even spent some time in a juvenile detention center. Oddly enough, Sam was considered the sweet one of her family even though she never showed it to any of them. Her family was just worse. She came from a long line of hardened criminals. She had aunts, uncles and cousins that were currently doing time in prison for various crimes. Nobody messed with a Puckett.

Carly, on the other hand, was girly, sweet, polite, and proper. Always respected her elders, followed the rules and got good grades. But opposites attract, right? Carly and Sam balanced each other out. Like Yin and Yang. They looked out for each other too. Carly helped Sam with her school work and was constantly getting her out of trouble with their good-natured principle. She always tried to make sure that Sam got enough to eat and gave her a place to sleep when things got too rough at home. And Sam was always protecting Carly, either from some jerk at school who wouldn't leave her alone or offering her Sam's jacket when Carly was cold. Sam also provided Carly with plenty of stress relief through her sense of humor and relaxed attitude. Whether it was cracking jokes to make her laugh or just being herself and raiding Carly's fridge, just having Sam around kept Carly happy. As long as Sam was there, everything in Carly's world was fine. More than fine.

"You ready to go?" Sam asked as Carly closed her locker.

"Yep," Carly replied, still smiling at Sam. It was the end of the school day and as they began their way toward the exit, Carly slipped her hand into Sam's and laced their fingers together.

Sam felt her heart rate increase and looked over to Carly with a shy smile and curled her fingers with Carly's. Sam's face suddenly felt hot. She noticed that Carly had started doing this more and more lately. They had always disregarded personal space between the two of them. It was just normal when they were kids and as they became teens, they just continued that trend. They always seemed close. Closer than was normal for two female best friends.

They always walked and sat so close to each other that they were either touching or just barely grazing each other. When they had sleepovers, they shared Carly's queen size bed. And they always seemed to be touching in some way. Whenever they did their live web show, iCarly, the two stood so close, they were always touching and one of them usually seemed to have an arm slung over the other's shoulders. Their fans had noticed too and some of them made comments on the message boards. Some just played it off as two very close best friends, while others suggested they were secret lovers. Sam and Carly always ignored these comments and laughed them off.

But Sam began to notice that the touching had become more intimate over the past few months. Flirtier at times. And more frequent. Their hugs seemed to last just a little bit longer than necessary. Carly would grab Sam's hand more in public. And the brunette would even kiss her on the cheek sometimes. Sam didn't mind though. She had had a crush on Carly for years. Maybe even since they had met that fateful day when they were eight years old.

She's so beautiful, Sam thought. She loved Carly's long, wavy brown hair that stretched down to the middle of her back, so dark it was almost black. Her chocolate brown eyes that seemed to sparkle. Her desirable, pink lips. Her long, slender legs, narrow hips, and slim waist. A waist with smooth, silky skin that stretched up to her small, but perky breasts. Sam looked straight ahead and tried to get her breathing under control as Carly started gently caressing the back of Sam's hand with her thumb as they walked. The two seemed oblivious to some of the stares they were getting from other kids in the hallways.

As they exited the building, an autumn breeze blew past them, whipping their hair up. Blonde curls met brunette locks. It was a cool October day but still relatively nice for Seattle. It was overcast but not humid. And the temperature was a comfortable 60 degrees.

As they walked hand in hand, Sam glanced over to Carly and the brunette caught her eye briefly and smiled at her. Sam just grinned in return and Carly looked away with a blush on her face. Carly couldn't help but be happy any time Sam smiled at her. Any time Sam looked at her. Any time Sam was in the same room with her. She had yet to tell Sam about her feelings because she wasn't sure how Sam would take it. She had always hoped that Sam would feel the same way but she was always too scared to risk their friendship, choosing, instead to show her affections in other ways in the hopes that Sam would, at some point, profess her own feelings to Carly.

The two walked along the sidewalk next to the busy street and were about to cross a side road when a bike messenger zoomed past them, almost clipping Carly. But Sam quickly grabbed Carly by the waist, pulling her towards herself to safety as Carly let out a yelp in fear. The taller girl had halfway fallen into Sam but Sam kept the two of them upright as the bike messenger passed without even apologizing. Carly was still leaning on Sam a little dazed with her hands resting on Sam's chest and arm and looked at her friend with a startled expression on her face.

"Are you alright, Carls?" Sam questioned with concern, using her other nickname for Carly.

"Yeah," Carly replied, dropping her hands from Sam's body, "Thanks, Sam."

"No problem," Sam replied with a grin. "I oughta run that jerk down and teach him a lesson!"

"No, don't!" Carly quickly responded and grabbed Sam's arm before she could do anything. It would be just like Sam to chase the guy down, tackle him, and beat the fudge out of him for putting Carly in harm's way. Possibly getting Sam arrested in the process.

"Relax, Carls," Sam said with a smirk, "I was only half serious."

Seeing that Sam was calm, Carly relaxed and slipped her hand back into Sam's. The two continued to walk while catching glances at each other and smiling each time. Sam brought their entwined hands up to her mouth and kissed Carly's fingers. Sam loved making Carly blush, which was what the brunette did after she felt the blonde girl's soft lips against her skin. Carly couldn't look away from Sam's beautiful face as the shorter girl looked deeply into Carly's big, brown eyes. There's a reason brown is my favorite color, Sam thought. And it's not just because it's the color of gravy.

The moment was ruined, though, as soon as the two heard a male voice behind them. "Hey, wait up, you guys!" Freddie Benson yelled running up from behind them, bookbag slung over his shoulder.

Carly and Sam quickly broke their hands away when they heard his voice and turned to see their friend, Freddie, running up behind them. "Why didn't you wait for me?" he asked out of breath when he finally caught up to the girls. He situated himself between the two girls as they continued to walk, causing Sam to be pushed over to the side a few feet. Sam looked like she wanted to punch Freddie's lights out.

Freddie was average height and medium build with neatly combed brown hair. He was only about an inch or two taller than Carly. When they were in middle school, he was shorter than Sam but he had shot up over the past few years. He had tried to change his nerd image by working out and putting on a bit of muscle but he still acted like a geek.

"I thought you had AV club this afternoon," Carly replied, trying to cover for why they didn't wait up for him.

"It was cancelled today. Remember? I told you at lunch," the brunette boy responded to Carly.

"Right, lunch," Carly murmured. She hadn't been paying attention to Freddie at lunch. She was too captivated by Sam, watching her eat, to listen to Freddie drone on and on about his tech gadgets as usual. She enjoyed the blonde girl's presence a little too much.

Sam sighed. It was no secret that she didn't like Freddie. The boy had been a thorn in her side since he started following Carly around like a lost puppy in the sixth grade. That was when he and his psycho mother had moved in across the hall from Carly. He was too boring and too annoying. And he never seemed to shut up about the latest technology. Not to mention, he was completely smitten with Carly and asked her out on a regular basis even though Carly had been gently turning him down since the day they met, five years ago. Sam noticed that Carly also seemed to be disappointed with the boy's presence. Carly got along with Freddie fine. But now, however, she seemed saddened all of the sudden. Sam wondered if it was for the same reason, she herself, felt. Because she wanted to spend the afternoon alone, just the two of them. Now, they would have to be accompanied by Freddie.

"So, Carly," Freddie began, "you want to go see a movie tomorrow night?" God, Sam thought, when is the dork going to give up?

"Uhhh…," Carly started, but didn't know what to say. She quickly tried to come up with an excuse.

Sam saw the sudden fear on Carly's face and decided to help her out. "She's already got plans, Freddork!" Sam practically yelled.

"With who?" Freddie asked angrily.

"Me!" Sam replied, clearly irritated with Freddie.

"Yeah," Carly piped in quickly, "Sam and I have an entire girl's day planned."

"Oh, come on!" Freddie whined, "not again. You had one last weekend. You know, you're never gonna get a boyfriend if you spend all your time with Sam!"

"Shut it, Benson!" Sam warned, "don't even start." She was in no mood to deal with Freddie. Not that she was ever in a mood to deal with him.

Freddie was annoyed that Sam seemed to always get more attention from Carly than he did. "What's the problem, Puckett? Fail another test? Get detention for the fourth time this week? Some boy turn you down?" Freddie poked.

"My problem, geek patrol," Sam started, "is your face is making me want to puke up everything I ate for lunch!"

"Carly! Did you hear what she said to me?!" Freddie whined.

"You're such an annoying dork boy!" Sam yelled.

"You're such an aggressive caveman!" Freddie retorted.

Carly sighed as her two friends started bickering face to face again and pointing their fingers in each other's chests. She always had to play referee between the two of them. "Enough, you two!" Carly yelled. Both Sam and Freddie stopped yelling but still glared at each other. "Why don't we get some smoothies?" Carly suggested.

They walked along silently until they finally reached The Groovy Smoothie, which was located right next to Carly and Freddie's apartment building. As they walked inside, Freddie handed Carly some money for his smoothie and said, "Order me a blueberry blast? I gotta pee," and then he ran off to the bathroom.

Sam snorted, "He's such a nub."

"Be nice," Carly reprimanded gently.

"I'll try if he does," Sam replied.

"He did seem ruder than usual to you," Carly admitted. "I'll talk to him about it. He's probably still pissed about that dead fish you put in his locker last week."

"Or the hydrogen peroxide that I put in his shampoo bottle last month."

"How did you get into his apartment anyway?"

"I picked the lock."

"Of course."

"Idiot must be tired of living or something. Maybe I need to remind him who's in charge," Sam said with a mischievous smirk.

"Oh, no, Sam. What are you gonna do?"

"Nothing outside of the usual."

"That's what I'm afraid of." Carly knew that Sam was holding back earlier when she was arguing with Freddie. Normally, Sam would have shut Freddie up with a punch or a wedgie. But Sam had lately been trying to behave for Carly's sake. It was normal for Sam to get called into the principal's office for getting in a fight or pulling a prank. But Sam had tamed herself somewhat over the past few months, since they had started their junior year. It went from giving nerds swirlies and wedgies to only beating up people who deserved it. Mostly, it was only people who bothered Sam or Carly. Sam even stood up for Freddie a couple times. "Just promise you won't hurt him too bad," Carly added. She secretly liked Sam's mischievous side. She liked every aspect of her personality. To everyone else, Sam came off as a trouble maker. But Carly knew that was only the side of Sam she wanted people to see. The tough, loud, rude exterior. Nobody messed with Sam. She didn't give a rat's ass what people thought. Except for maybe Carly. But Carly was the only one who got to see Sam's sweet, sensitive side. And Carly was the only one Sam was ever nice to. She would never hurt Carly.

The two approached the counter to make their orders and Sam jammed her hands into her pockets searching for some cash. Carly quickly turned to Sam and said with a smile, "It's on me." She knew Sam didn't have a lot of money and never minded paying for her.

"Why?" Sam simply asked, a little embarrassed.

"Because you're my best friend," Carly replied.

"But you're my best friend. So, that means I should pay for you."

"Maybe next time."

The two just smiled at each other. "Thanks, Cupcake. I owe you."

"Don't worry about it. Besides, I owe you for saving me from that bike messenger."

Carly turned back to the counter with a blush on her cheeks. "Two strawberry splats," she ordered, knowing their favorite flavors, and then quickly added Freddie's order. She'd almost forgotten he was off in the bathroom. After they got their smoothies, they made their way over to a table and sat down. When Freddie came out of the bathroom, he spotted his two friends at a small table, talking and laughing. The two girls were seated on the bench so close that their hips and shoulders were touching. Freddie shook his head. Why do they have to sit so close? They look like a couple, he thought.

Freddie strolled over to the table and sat down on Carly's other side. He took his smoothie in his hands and began to enjoy the sweet beverage. The two girls were talking about what they were going to do for the next episode of iCarly until Freddie rudely interrupted them. "So, Carly," he began, "you have a date to the Halloween dance yet?" It was still a few weeks away but Carly always got invited early by lots of boys since she was one of the prettiest and most popular girls in school. But her popularity, mostly from their web show, hadn't caused her to change at all.

"Um," Carly stammered, being caught off guard by Freddie's question. She glanced over to Sam briefly, who had a nonchalant look on her face, and then looked back over to Freddie. She had secretly turned down three boys already but she didn't want Freddie to know that. She turned them down because, one, she wasn't interested in any of them and, two, she was hoping that Sam would ask her. Even though she knew that wasn't going to happen since it would mean coming out of the closet, possible harassment from bullies, and social suicide. And that was only if Sam was interested in girls. She was pretty sure Sam only liked her as a friend. But still a girl could hope, right? Maybe Sam would ask her to go as a friend, just to hang out? "I've had a few people ask but I haven't given an answer yet. I'm keeping my options open," she lied convincingly.

"Oh," Freddie stated, somewhat hopefully. Maybe she hasn't given them an answer yet because she's waiting for the right boy to ask her out. "Well, if you're keeping your options open…," he started but was immediately cut off by Sam.

"She doesn't want to go out with you, Fredbag!" Sam snapped, "why would she want to go out with a geeky nub like you?" Sam couldn't take it anymore. The boy needed to be put in his place. Carly obviously wasn't interested in him. Why couldn't he take the hint?

"For your information," Freddie shouted back, "there are plenty of girls who want to go with me."

"Who? Your mom? Your icky cousin, Amanda?" Sam responded angrily.

Here we go again, Carly thought. I wish I had my spray bottle. "Guys, stop it!" Carly interjected before they got started back up again. But the brunette was secretly thankful for Sam's insults to Freddie. She didn't want to have to turn the boy down again, crushing his feelings for the hundredth time. Sam and Freddie stopped arguing but continued to glare daggers at each other. After they were done with their smoothies, the trio got up to throw their now empty cups in the trash and headed for the exit.

Once outside, they headed for the direction of their apartment building. Carly walked in between Sam and Freddie to prevent further arguments. Freddie reached over and tried to take Carly's hand in his. Carly looked over in shock and anger and pulled her hand out of Freddie's. What is he thinking? Carly thought. He's getting more and more daring. Freddie had a hurt look on his face when Carly pulled her hand out of his and shot him that angry look. Sam noticed this exchange and was furious at first but then smirked when Carly ripped her hand away from Freddie.

They finally made it inside The Bushwell Plaza and made their way up to the eighth floor on the elevator. Once outside Carly's door, she placed her key inside the lock and entered her apartment with Sam behind her. Freddie was about to enter but Sam quickly turned around and said, "Oops, I hear your mom calling you. Bye!" and shoved him towards his own door across the hall.

"HEY!" Freddie shouted as he hit the floor, his head slightly banging against his front door.

Sam then slammed the door loudly and locked it.

"Sam," Carly chastised, but she was secretly glad to be away from Freddie.

"I'm sorry, but the boy was chewing on my nerves more than usual today," Sam replied apologetically. She felt no remorse about being rude to Freddie. That was a way of life for her. She, however, didn't want Carly to be mad at her.

Carly sighed, "It's okay, I'm kinda glad you got rid of him." She smiled at Sam, setting her bookbag down on the floor.

Sam, realizing Carly wasn't upset with her, returned the smile. "Sooo, what do you want to do?" Sam asked shyly now that they were alone in Carly's apartment. Normally, she'd raid their fridge and basically make herself at home but today, she wasn't feeling as much like herself. Maybe it had something to do with Carly's increasingly intimate behavior towards her. The brunette sometimes made her nervous. In a good way.

"Feel like a movie?" Carly asked. "Spencer's over at his friend, Socko's today. He told me he would probably be home late. We could order a pizza."

"You read my mind," Sam replied at the mention of food and alone time with Carly.

Two hours later, the pizza had arrived and been eaten and the two of them were now sitting side by side on the couch watching a scary movie with the lights off. Carly typically didn't like scary movies but she relented when Sam pleaded for one. The brunette was pushing for a romantic comedy but knew that Sam disliked them and loved horror. Carly had scooted over all the way to Sam until their hips were touching. One of the reasons Sam liked horror so much was that Carly always wanted to cuddle during the scary moments.

At one point during the movie, Carly jumped during a scary scene and grabbed Sam's arm. She quickly wrapped her arm with Sam's and turned her head to her friend's shoulder to shield her eyes from the gore. Sam automatically wrapped her arm around Carly's waist in a protective manner without even thinking about it. She always protected Carly. She hadn't even realized what she did until her heart started to speed up.

Carly fisted her hands in Sam's shirt to have something to grab onto now that Sam's arm was around her waist. She slowly lifted her head from Sam's shoulder to look at her face. Sam could feel Carly's eyes on her and turned her head to look at her. Their faces only inches apart now. Eyes locked. They just stared at each other for a few seconds, hearts pounding.

Kiss her, Sam! Kiss her! Sam thought. The blonde briefly looked down to Carly's glossy lips and then back up to her beautiful brown eyes. Carly slowly started to inch her face toward Sam's and the blonde did the same. But they both paused as their noses just barely grazed each other's. Each could feel the other's breath on their faces, pulse racing, gazing at the other's lips. Sam slowly gulped, not knowing exactly what was holding her back. Then the sound of a chainsaw and a scream came from the movie, causing both to jump and turn their heads back to the TV.

Sam squeezed her eyes shut for a couple seconds and then opened them and focused on the TV. What were you thinking? She had been thinking about leaning in and kissing Carly like there was no tomorrow and then fear had gripped her. She was relieved, or maybe disappointed, when the movie interrupted them. She had been wanting to kiss Carly for years but was worried what Carly's reaction would be. She couldn't lose Carly's friendship. It was the single most important thing in her life.

Plus, Sam thought, Carly is straight. She's dated several boys over the past few years. But none of them had lasted longer than a couple dates. Sam had always wondered why. Carly was one of the most beautiful girls at school, and thanks to their well-known web show, one of the most popular. What kind of idiot would break up with Carly Shay? Sam thought. She must be the one breaking hearts.

Sam was always sad whenever Carly dated a guy but never showed it. She always played "the supportive best friend." She just wanted Carly to be happy. But even Sam started to notice something odd about the boys Carly had dated. Some of them looked like Sam, with wavey blonde hair and striking blue eyes, while others acted like Sam, the bad boy type. Had Carly been, unknowingly, gravitating toward Sam stand-ins?

Sam had come to terms with her own sexuality. She realized she liked girls in that way when she was 10 but it wasn't until maybe three years ago that she realized she didn't like boys at all. She hadn't told anyone yet that she was gay. Even though Seattle was one of the most LGBT friendly cities in the country, there were still bigots everywhere you went. Sam's mother was one of them. Carly's grandfather was another. And high school was always hell without adding in another reason to be different. Sam was also worried what it would do to her friendship with Carly if she knew.

Carly seemed to relax a bit and placed her hands in her lap. She sighed and leaned her head on Sam's shoulder as they watched the movie. After a few minutes, Carly gently placed her hand on Sam's jean-clad thigh. Sam flinched but tried not to show it. Her eyes wide. She wasn't expecting this. Was Carly just scared because of the movie? Did she want to put the moves on Sam? Oh my God! Oh my God! Oh my God! Sam thought. What do I do? Her hand is on my thigh! HAND ON MY THIGH! Her pulse was racing now. She felt a tug at her lower stomach and her body, south of the border, involuntarily clenched once and slowly unclenched. Carly was the only one who had this effect on Sam.

Another scream came from the movie and Carly turned her head to Sam's chest to look away from more gore and she could feel Sam's heart pounding.

"Sam?" Carly asked in a sweet voice, "are you okay? Your heart is beating so fast."

God, her voice is like an angel's. Sam gulped and slowly let out a breath she didn't even realize she was holding and stammered, "Uh, yeah…I'm fine, Cupcake." She looked to Carly's face. "Scary movie, huh?" She smiled but was clearly tense.

Carly let out a slight chuckle. "Never thought the day would come when big, bad Samantha Puckett would be scared of a horror movie," she replied with a smile on her lustrous lips.

Oh, I'm scared alright, Sam thought. But not of the movie.

"Who said I was scared?" Sam asked.

"You just did."

"I meant, scary for you."

"Then why is your heart racing?"

"No reason." Seriously? No reason? Why not just plaster a sign on my forehead that says, 'I have the hots for Carly Shay'?

"We can turn off the movie and go to bed if you want," Carly suggested. Sam's heart fluttered with the thought of going to bed with Carly.

"No way, Shay. You're not getting out of finishing this movie," Sam replied with a smile. She wanted to finish the movie since it was almost over anyway and she also needed time to get her body back under her control before they headed to bed. No matter how hard that may be with how much Carly was snuggling into her.

Carly could sense Sam's nervousness and gave the girl a confused look but then let it go and turned back to the movie. Sam wasn't sure if all this closeness was just their normal closeness amplified or if Carly was aware of what she was doing to Sam. Breathe, Puckett. Just breathe. She had never been so turned on in all her 16 years. How is Carly acting so normally? She's obviously not having the same reaction I am. Geez, it's hot in here!

Just breathe, Shay, Carly thought. Just be calm and easy. Well, not easy. Easy going. She was enjoying cuddling Sam even more than she usually did. She knew it was because of the feelings she had for Sam that just seemed to keep getting stronger and stronger as time when on. When Sam had wrapped her arm around her protectively, Carly wanted to lean in and kiss her. But she held back. She restrained herself but she was finding it harder and harder to keep her hands off of Sam. She just wanted to touch, caress, and kiss Sam so badly. When Sam held her gaze earlier, she wanted so much for Sam to kiss her. And it seemed like she may get that kiss but then the movie had interrupted them.

God, she's so gorgeous! Carly thought. Is this wrong? She's my best friend. Does this make me gay? Bisexual? What if Sam is straight? Even if she likes girls, that doesn't mean she automatically likes me that way. We've been best friends for years. Would she think it's weird? But she's so hot. I don't know how much longer I can keep my feelings to myself. Would she think I'm a perv if I just straddled her right now and started kissing her? Is Sam acting nervous because she's as turned on as I am or because she's not turned on at all and is just trying to spare my feelings?

Carly had never really pondered her sexuality much before she realized her feelings for Sam. She wasn't sure if she was gay or bi. She had never felt this way about anyone before. Girl or boy. All she knew was that she wanted Sam. In every possible way.

The movie finally ended and Sam stood up to stretch, her arms reaching over her head. Carly noticed the bottom of Sam's shirt slid up a bit revealing her toned abs and soft, smooth skin of her stomach. Carly stared dreamily until Sam lowered her arms and her shirt covered her stomach again. She snapped out of it and stood up with Sam. "Ready for bed?" Carly asked casually.

"Sure," Sam replied sleepily as they headed for the stairs. They walked up the staircase to the second floor of the loft and down the short hallway to Carly's bedroom. When they entered the room, Carly closed the door and asked Sam if she needed to borrow some pajamas. "Nah, I brought some with me when I left the house this morning."

Carly went into the bathroom that was connected to her bedroom to go change and brush her teeth. She tried not to think about the fact that Sam was in her bedroom changing her clothes. Calm down, Carly. She's your best friend. She's changed her clothes hundreds of times in your bedroom. And you've shared your bed with her just as many times. Why does it have to be any different than when we were eight? But she knew it was.

When she came out of the bathroom, she saw that Sam had changed into her pajamas and was waiting to get into the bathroom to brush her teeth. After they were both ready for bed, Carly turned out the light and they climbed into bed. They chatted and laughed about silly things for a little while like best friends. No sexual tension. After a while it became quiet.

"Sam?" Carly quietly asked to see if her friend was still awake. When she got no reply, Carly scooted over closer to Sam and saw that Sam was laying on her side, her back to Carly and her breathing sounded even like she had fallen asleep. Carly snuggled up close to Sam, pressing her chest and stomach to Sam's back and wrapped an arm around the shorter girl. Carly nuzzled her face into the back of Sam's neck and curls. She breathed in Sam's sweet scent and then let out a sound that was a cross between a hum and a contented sigh. She closed her eyes and started to feel sleep tugging at her.

Sam was almost asleep when she had heard her friend gently call her name. She was half asleep when she heard it and wasn't sure if she had actually heard Carly's voice or if it was her dreams tugging at her so she didn't reply. She then felt Carly slowly slip over to her side of the bed. She tried not to flinch or move at all when Carly cuddled up to her back and lovingly wrapped an arm around her chest. Her eyes were wide open when Carly nuzzled the back of her neck. Sam couldn't believe it. They had cuddled in bed since they were little kids but this was different. They were teenagers now and it was so intimate. Sam felt like she was in heaven and finally felt her heart rate slow back down to normal after a few minutes. She slowly drifted off to sleep with a huge smile on her face.

AN: Hope you are enjoying it so far. This will be a slow buildup, as you can probably tell. Let me know if you want more.
