This story is one I've been cooking up in my head for a while now. The first few chapters will be about the same as the Manga or the anime. Ill be skipping a few unimportant parts or adding stuff. It won't be until later that we get to the real meat of this story, so please sit tight. This is my first real fanfic, so any constructive criticism is welcome. No lemon (these are kids for God's sake.) Enjoy.

"Words" Demon Speech
Six o'clock sharp, the house's morning starts with the ringing of a bell.
In a room filled with beds, sleeping children from the ages of 5-11 started to wake up.
"Rise and Shine Everyone!" a orange-haired girl shouted. "Breakfast is calling!" A tattoo can be seen on the left of her neck, the numbers 63194.
As everyone started to wake up, a boy with sandy blond hair that went a little past his shoulders, around the same age as the orangehead, spoke up, "geez Emma, could you pipe it down? You don't need to start the day yelling at us." the numbers 92939 are tattooed in the same place as the girl.
Emma replied with a pout, "oh come on Spence, if I didn't, ou'd sleep till noon!"
As soon as all the children were awake, they started to get dressed and ready for breakfast.
"Wait! Wait up!" said a child as he jumped from bed to bed.
"Oh, for...! quit goofing around and get dressed!" a girl with glasses told the jumping child.
As Emma helped one of the younger children put on their white shirt, two others came to her with watery eyes. "Emma, I can't put my shoes on~" one whined. "I can't untie my stupid shoelaces..." the other said with tears welling up.
Emma smiled softly at the two children and replied, "Relax, I've got it covered, Spencer! could you finish getting James dressed for me?"
"Sure, I'm almost done here!" Spencer replied while he tied a young girl's shoes.
Soon all the children started running out of their rooms. Emma was running with a young boy with tanned skin and black hair in her arms.
"Good morning! Don! Conny! and, of course, to our precious little Bernie!" Emma greeted a tall boy walking a small young girl with a Bunny stuffed animal in her arms.
"Good morning Emma." the young girl Conny greeted while Don simply waved.
Spencer walked up to Emma with one of the youngest children in his arms. Emma puts the boy in her arms down as they enter the dining hall. "All right just in time," she says.
The dining room is large, three long tabled are set next to one another to fit 48 people; out of all of these, only 39 were set with plates and silverware.
As Emma walks into the room, she is suddenly hit in the back, hard enough to cause her to step forward to maintain balance. She looks behind her to see two children with broad smiles.
The with black hair says, "Tag, You're it! "
"Catch me if you can! " the Blond boy next to him adds.
Emma's face darkened. "You guys have done it now…"
Emma then turned around and jumped at the two boys. "I'M GONNA... EAT YOU!" she yells as she chases the laughing kids. Spencer looks at the three of them running in circles and chuckles to himself.
The girl with glasses looks on at the three running around. "They're at it again..." she says to herself.
'even if we are not related by blood, no matter how different from each other we are, we are still a family that loves each other,' Spencer thought as he watched Emma ruff house with the children.
"Gweod Mhwornninhgg!" Emma says while the boy she was holding earlier is on her back, grabbing her cheek. "Norman! Ray!"
Two boys' holding a jug and a pot looked at the girl and smiled. "Good morning Emma" the white-haired Norman greets. "Gweod Mhwornninhgg," the black-haired Ray mocks.
"Morning guys, hope you slept well!" Spencer says as he walks up to one of the high chairs, placing the young boy in his arms into it.
"Someone's full of energy this morning… and you haven't even had breakfast yet!" Norman comments at Emma's playfulness. He was tilting his head in such a way that shows his tattoo on his neck, 22194.
"I know, right. It's like she's a switch; when morning comes, she's up and at 'em, and when it's bedtime, she's out like a light!" Spencer comments as he helps another child get in their seat.
"What are you, Five?" Ray turns to askes Emma, showing his numbers 81194.
"I'M ELEVEN JUST LIKE THE THREE OF YOU!" Emma Shouts. "I'm just young at heart," she mumbles. "How could you be so mean, Ray?!" She exclaims.
"Hehehe, Emma, I could use a hand here…" a soft and more mature voice askes.
"Mama… I'm gonna do my entrance from the beginning, like a grownup…" Emma whines as she jumps into Mama's arms.
"Now, why would you do that? I love that side of you," Mama replies, holding Emma's face in her hands.
"The five your old inside of me?" Emma askes.
"No, the part of you that deeply cares about everyone in the family," Mama replies with a warm smile on her face.
"Thanks, Mama," Emma says with a smile on her face.
As everyone settles down and takes their seats, Mama stands at the head of the middle table. Smiling, she rings a small bell in her hand, and all the children stop talking and listen to their caretaker.
Once all of their attention is on her, Mama starts talking. "Good morning, my dear children. Let's give thanks that all 38 of you are able to live here happily today. Thank you for the food."
"Thank you for the food." All the children say at once.
As Mama said, 38 children were living in this house, and while they are siblings, they do not share parents, and even if they call her Mama, she is not their birth Mother. This is the Orphanage Grace Field. Disconnected from society, the children of Grace Field live peaceful, loving, and happy lives, with no worry about what goes on outside the walls that confine them. With comfortable beds, food that tasted gourmet, the snow-white uniforms, the ID numbers on their necks, and the litany of tests, not one child can say that they are unhappy living there.
Mama says that these tests are a substitute for conventional schooling, that they are "for our future and wellbeing." as she puts it.
Putting on the headphones and picking up the scanning pens, the children hear a robotic voice talking to them, saying their age, the type of test, and to answer giving a small time frame.
"Question 1, Please select the figure from the following that could not be a possible net of solid A," the voice asks.
"Question 2, count the total number of cubes in the following composite solid... Question 15, out of the following, which one is the proper solid that will fill the figure described by the following inquiry. Question 60, please give the formula that can be derived from the following condition."
"Test Type 1 complete," the robotic voice says.
"whew..." one of the children sighs after finishing. "were finally done." one says. "I'm beat," another says, leaning back.
"I got about half of 'em right," a child with black hair brags.
"half! Amazing!" the child next to him exclaims.
"You're so good I didn't have a clue..." Conny says depressingly. "It's been like this for a while now."
"I'll be returning your exam scores~" Mama announces.
"Emma, Ray, Norman, Spencer... Splendid Job, you four! you all got 300, perfect scores!"
"Jackpot!" Spencer exclaims high fiving Emma, who sits next to him.
All the other children oohed and awed at the accomplishment that the four have done. Even if it was not the first time the four had got 100%, it was still amazing to the other kids. Seeing the test as so challenging to get 100% is astonishing.
After all the tests, the children go outside to a vast yard with the forest around the house. They usually play games such as tag, hide and seek, and capture the flag.
Don plays rock, paper, and scissors with Norman to determine who is It. "Yikes, Norman, you're it," Don says, losing to Norman's scissors.
"Hey, Ray! do you want to play?" Emma asked Ray.
"I'll pass," Ray replies, reading his book.
"Tch.. would it kill you to come and play with us once in a while?" Emma comments, pouting at her lifelong friend.
"Come on, Emma, forget about that, that's just how he is. For now, let's just play!" Spencer encourages Emma, hoping to bring her back from her slump. "All right!" she replies, seemingly forgetting all about Ray's unwillingness to play.
"Okay, everyone! I'm gonna start counting now!" Norman shouts out. "10... 9... 8..." As Norman starts to count down, all of the other children, including Spencer and Emma, run out towards the woods to not get caught. "3... 2... 1... As I thought, most of them went to the wood for cover." Norman says as he finishes the count down.
Many kids decided to hide together just on the forest's inner edge, hoping he would look deeper in the woods first. As they look onto the house, Norman Creeps up behind and tags them, surprising everyone there.
Spencer knows most of his siblings will be caught, given that they stuck together. As he runs through the woods, he sees a ditch with a hollow tree growing out of it, a hole on one side makes entering the tree easy. 'This is good; he will likely come down this way, in chase of Emma giving she doesn't like hiding, he won't suspect and be too focused on her. But my clothes would make seeing me easy, hmm.' Spencer thinks that Norman had started the hunt by now. He'd have to move quickly. He finds a loose bush on the side of the ditch. Taking it out of the ground, he gets as deep as he can into the tree and puts the bush in front of him. 'Now, I wait,' Spencer smirks.
Meanwhile, Norman is running after Emma going through the forest at high speeds. After jumping over a ditch, walking across a pond, and going down into another ditch, he stops. He'd lost sight of Emma a while ago after she jumped the ditch before. Emma is up in a tree that grew in the trench they were in, looking down at a seemingly clueless Norman.
Suddenly Norman trips and falls face-first into the hard ground. In shock, Emma Jumps down from the tree and goes to his side. "Norman! Are you okay!?" she says in alarm.
Turning his head, Norman smiles, "Just Kidding."
"WHAT!? No fair! I was really worried about you!" Emma cries out in frustration.
"That's your weakness, Emma, you're just too kind," Norman tells her, and he pats her shoulder. "Now, where is Spencer?" Norman asks himself.
Inside the tree, Spencer is absolutely silent, not moving or making a sound; he knew they would come around here, he's always been able to know things like that, what Emma is about to do that would get her hurt or in trouble, what she's thinking or where she would go. This ability to see what people would do based on intuition and luck makes him undefeated in hide and seek.
As Emma and Norman start walking away, Spencer thinks to himself, 'I knew they would come, Emma's athleticism and infinite energy make it so she can't stay still and hide. I was just lucky that all that took place in such a way, so they did not notice this hiding spot.'
After 10 minutes from the start of the game, Norman gives up looking for Spencer and calls out for him to come out.
Emma was on the ground, pounding her fists on the dirt in frustration. "He caught me again! WHY!? it's so irritating!" Emma cries out. "Even worse, why does Spencer always win!? It's like he's cheating!" she accuses.
"what does Norman have that you don't?" Ray directs a question at Emma. "Well, he's calm and collected, plans everything, and is smarter than anyone here." Emma lists.
"wrong, well, yes, he does have those things, but what he has are strategies. If it was all about the physical ability, you'd win every time. For Him, Hide and go seek tag is like a game of chess only using your entire body. Right, Norman?" Ray explains.
"Yea, but you're a better tactician than me, Ray. However, Emma has a point. Spencer, how do you always win at hide and seek?" the white-haired boy asks Spenser.
"It's all about knowing who you're playing with and a little luck," Spencer says simply, brushing some hair off his face.
"That didn't tell me anything!" Emma exclaims.
"The next thing you're gonna say is 'Spence, come on and tell me how you know things before they happen!' am I right?" Spencer predicts.
"Spence, come on and tell me how you know things befo... Hey!, Gosh, I HATE when you do that." Emma says in embarrassment and anger, she crawls over and starts hitting his left arm with her fists, not hard, mind you, just enough to get the point across.
"Oh, Come on, Emma, I'm not as good as Mom. she always finds us." Spencer states.
"Norman! I want a rematch, but this time everyone is it except for you!" Don shouts while pointing at Norman.
As the new round started, Emma and Spencer went together to look for Norman. The two of them had always been best friends; Mama said they came to the orphanage on the same day. Spencer can't imagine a world without Emma, and Emma simply won't allow a world to exist where they are apart. They walk in quiet, going deeper into the woods, looking around for any trace of their friend.
After walking for a few minutes, the two children came across a short metal fence, one that came up to their waists. They both remember what their Mother always told them, about the two forbidden areas for them to go past. The Gate that connects to the outside world and the fence surrounding the forest, none of them ever questions why; it was just what they followed. "You are NOT allowed outside of the boundaries." Mama drills this into their heads almost daily before she lets them go out to play.
Flashback.
Four young children stood outside a gate; one their Mother had forbidden them to go near. A young Emma placed her hands on the metal bars that separated them from the outside world, peering into the darkness. After her eyes got adjusted, she could see a brick tunnel with metal doors on the side, seemingly going on forever into the shadows.
"What do you think is out there, beyond the gate?" she asks her friends.
"Probably more forests, at least until you get to a city. None of the house maps tell us where we are, so really, I don't know," Spencer explains, watching Emma look into the darkness.
Emma turns around to face the three boys. "What do you want to do once you go outside?!" she asks with excitement.
"I don't know, maybe go to a music concert or something?" Spencer ponders.
"I've got no clue, what about you, Emma?" Ray asks.
"I want to Ride a Giraffe!" Emma exclaims. "Good luck with that," Ray deadpans.
"I don't think you can open the gate from this side," Norman observes. "What are they protecting us from?" he questions.
"Maybe the gate protects them from us?" Spencer speculates. "Huh?!" The other three questions. "I'm joking, but you're right, just what is out there?" Spencer wonders.
"As Mama told us 'beyond the gate and the fence is extremely dangerous, so keep a distance from them.' she's clearly lying." Ray quotes and then accuses Mom.
"You think so?" Norman questions.
"Man, talk about anti-climactic. Let's get home before we get in trouble." Ray suggests.
Back to the present.
As Emma and Spencer walk closer to the fence, they look to their left and see Norman, staring beyond the fence. Slowly, Emma walks up to him, while Spencer stays close behind. She then puts her hand on his shoulder, bringing Norman back. "You caught me," Norman states looking at Emma.
Spencer walks next to Emma, as the three of them look beyond the fence. "'Never go near there, no matter what.' that's what Mom tells us, right?" Emma asks.
"Yeah, she says that its dangerous beyond the gate and fence." Norman answers.
"it's a lie, obviously."
Norman, Spencer, and Emma look behind them, seeing Ray walk up to them. Ray coming out into the forest is unusual. He'd typically stay at the tree and read.
"What do you mean?" Norman asks.
"Just look at it." Ray points to the fence. "what about this is dangerous? The fence is low, so low even a toddler could get over it, and I don't see anything dangerous."
"But Mom tells us that..." Spencer tried to say, stopping as he started to think about it.
"You really love Mom, don't you?" Ray says, looking away.
"What are you talking about? We all love Mom!" Emma exclaims.
"Hey, guys! What are you doing? are we still playing or not." Don comes running in with several others behind him
"I think we should stop, it's getting late, and Mama would get worried if we are late for dinner," Norman suggests.
Don looks beyond the fence. "we will all leave here eventually, huh?" he asks. "This is an orphanage, of course, we'll leave here sometime before we turn 12 at the most." One of the boys who followed Don answered him.
The girl with glasses, thinking about when people leave, just had a question pop up in her head. "Why don't we get any letters from people? Lots of our siblings have already left, but nobody writes to us after they leave."
"I'm sure they're just considerate to their foster parents," Norman replies.
"But we've known each other since we were born. When we came here and lived together, even the youngest once to leave are least six years old. We are their siblings, even if we are not blood-related." Don rebuttals.
The girl with glasses folds her arms in a huff. "They must be having so much fun out there to forget all of us," she states.
"Oh come on Gilda, I'm sure they remember all of us. They just might be busy with school, family time, and other stuff outside, or maybe they live far away, so it takes a while for letters to get here." Spencer suggests.
"Well, I, for one, am happy for them." Emma states.
"I just want to go outside and wear all the cool clothes I can; we only have this one outfit," Gilda whines out.
"I want to go on a train!" one of the youngest yells out.
"That's a good one, Phil!" Don states. "What about you, Norman?"
"I want to go to as many different places as I can, and see everything I've never seen before," he tells the group. "How about you? Ray, Spencer, Emma?"
"If I go outside, well, I'd have to survive up to then first," Ray says with a grim look.
"Man, why are you such a downer?" Don asks
"I want to go to a concert of some sort, or maybe go to a puzzle-room; I've read about them, and they seem like fun!" Spencer says. "and I know what Emma what's, she wants to ride a Giraffe." he says with a smirk.
"Come on, that was like forever ago! I want to do other things!" Emma says with a blush of embarrassment. "so, you don't want to ride a Giraffe?" Spencer asks, still smirking. Emma's blush deepens as she turns away from him in a huff. She then calms down. "I don't ever want to leave, I want to stay here and help Mama with all my siblings and make them all happy!"
"I promise to write letters," Conny starts looking up at her siblings. "I'll write lots and lots of letters and never forget about anyone! and when I grow up, I want to be a Mom just like Mama and never abandon my children."
"You really love Mom, don't you, Conny," Emma says to the little girl.
"Yeah!" she responds.
It's night now; Conny is getting all dressed up to meet her new family.
"I'm not sure about these clothes..." she states with her new black button down and gray skirt.
"What are you talking about? You look amazing," Emma encourages the little girl.
"Thank you, Big sis. If I have Little Burney, I know everything will be fine. Mama made him for me, even though I'm not that smart as you." Conny states.
"That doesn't matter; being able to do tests well does not make you smart, and just because you don't do as well as others on tests doesn't mean your dumb. Albert Einstein, one of the smartest men ever, said that "The True Sign of Intelligence is not Knowledge, but Imagination." and you have got a fantastic imagination Conny, never doubt that." Spencer says, kneeling to her level before giving her a big hug.
Conny starts to tear up before hugging him back; she loved all her siblings and did not want to say goodbye just yet. Soon everyone shared their hugs and goodbyes before seeing her out of the door with Mama.
As everyone started to get ready for bed, Emma walked into the dining room to ensure everything was clean and in place. Looking to the tables, she sees none other than Little Burney, Conny's stuffed animal.
"WHHHHHHHHAT CONNY? HOW COULD YOU FORGET!" Emma yells out. Gilda and Don come running in as they were sweeping the floor just outside the door and see the stuffed animal in Emma's hands. "Oh no! she already left," Gilda states.
"Don't be so sure."
They turn to see Ray and Norman walking in. "I saw the light on in one of the Gate's rooms. Maybe if you hurry, you can catch up," Ray suggests.
"Let's hurry, so Conny doesn't have to spend any time outside without Burney," Norman says
With a nod, Emma and Norman Run as fast as they can to the Gate.
As they get closer, the two of them see that the Gate is open. Dim lights and the sound of water droplets make an unnerving atmosphere. When they enter, they see a truck with a cloth covering the back.
"Is this the car that will take Conny to her new home?" Emma wonders out loud.
As Norman looks into the driver's seat, Emma goes to the back and parts the curtain. She suddenly drops the Stuffed animal in her hands.
"Norman?" Emma calls out in a hushed and terrified tone. Once Norman came back to see, he found something he could not predict.
Conny's pale corpse, drained of all color, and a red flower protruding from her chest.
Too shocked to move, they are suddenly brought back to reality when they hear a voice. "Is someone there?" a male voice calls out. "Hey, did you hear a voice just now?" the male asks what can be assumed someone next to them.
Quickly without making a noise, Norman and Emma grab Burnie and hide under the truck.
"It must be your imagination." a new male voice responds as the large metal doors and one side of the tunnel open.
"You know, if it was a stray cat, we could have caught it and eaten it!" Voice A speaks out.
"Guh, you telling me you'd eat even a cat?" Voice B says in disgust.
Emma and Norman shuffle closer to the edge of the truck, trying to see the faces of the voices. What they saw would haunt them, even more, then seeing Conny's body.
Huge Monstrous creatures, unlike anything they've seen in books or in the forest. Both of them have bony faces with eyes vertically perpendicular: long claw-like fingers and black bodies with white arms.
"Hehehe, it looks so tasty." Monster A speaks. "Human meat is simply the best!"
As the monster picks up Conny, its long tongue stretches out towards her. As the other brings out a glass barrel with blue liquid.
'What...? What is going on? Did these things kill Conny?!' Norman thinks, trying to hold back his screams. 'Demon, that's the only thing that could describe these things. Are these why Mama told us to never go outside? Where's Mama? Is she okay?' Emma thinks.
"Fuck, it looks so good, can't I just have one of the fingertips?" Demon A asks the other as it strips her of her clothes and drops her into the tank.
"You dumbass, That's valuable Merchandise, you're lucky to even hold it. The human meat from this Farm is top-of-the-line, only for the super-rich."
Emma looks at her hand, then touches her ID number on her neck. 'Merchandise? Farm? Meat?!' Emma thinks. 'This whole time, everyone who left, all of us still here, were meant to be eaten!?'
"Gupna?" Demon B asks, looking to a new Demon, one taller and having a sleeker look to it.
"A six-year-old again... just the usual. but it looks like we can finally harvest some high-quality meat." Demon C says, looking at a clipboard. "Prepare the Four with the full score for Plucking, I want all of them within the next year," it tells someone out of sight.
"Yes." a simple answer from a very familiar voice. Looking over, the two children's jaws drop to see their Mother looking at the Demon with a look of indifference. "I understand."
"Everything seems good here; we're counting on you, Isabella." The third Demon speaks.
"Just leave it to me." She responds.
As the first and second demons get into the truck, the third puts up its hand. "Wait, I smell something," it said, as it walks toward the side of the truck; in a swift and smooth motion, it bends down and looks underneath the truck, finding a stuffed bunny.
Meanwhile, Emma and Norman are running as fast as they can back to the house. Not stopping until they get just below the hill the house sits on. When Emma collapses onto her hands and knees.
"Those demons... They were worse than anything I've seen in a book..." Emma explains panting as she talks. "The kind Mama we all know and love... is the real one, right? And the kid in the truck... it couldn't have been Conny... Right?" Emma asks Norman with a look of hope, hope that this was a dream, that what she saw was an illusion.
Norman just looks at her fear and exhaustion on his face before composing himself to say, "It was Conny."
Emma bangs her fist on the ground and crumples into a ball before letting out a scream, one filled with fear, sadness, despair, and betrayal.
As they walk back inside, they are greeted by Ray, who is holding a lantern. "Welcome back, did you make it in time?" he asks.
Emma's eyes were covered by her hair, and Norman simply replied, "We didn't," as he and Emma walked to their room.
While in their room, Emma was curled up into a ball, crying with Norman next to her. "We've got to run away," Norman states. "I don't know what it's like out there, but if we want to survive, we have to get out of here. We can do it if it's just you me, Ray, and Spencer."
"Do you think... We could do it with everyone?" Emma asks with tears going down her face. "We can't leave them behind; I don't want any more of my family to die. not like that."
Norman puts a hand on her shoulder and smiles. "Yes, we can. We can all break out of here together. All we need is a plan."
And so it began, the children of Grace Fields' plan to escape certain death within this Farm they once called home started to hatch. All they needed was tactics and each other to accomplish this goal.
About 5 minutes after Emma and Norman Left to give Conny her Bunny.
Spencer had just finished tucking the youngest once into their cribs and was headed out the door. The Moment he closed it; however, he was struck with a vision of a lifeless Conny and an overwhelming feeling of fear and sadness, almost falling over, he kneeled down. 'what is this? Was that Conny? Why did I see that, and why do I feel so afraid?' he quickly went to his room and went to his bed, thinking it will help comfort him. He soon had another feeling of fear wash over him with a feeling of betrayal added onto it. 'what's going on' he thought. Turning over his bed, he thinks of his best friend Emma and the day they had today. He soon calms down enough to fall asleep.
Chapter 1, end.
For those of you who know about Zero Escape and its story, I think you can figure out what's going on here. Please don't spoil it for anyone else reading. I hope that this was a good introduction. Do not worry, we will get more of Spencer and Original content rather than me basically copy-pasting from the Manga. I don't know when the next part will come out whenever it's ready, I suppose.
This is RightousHope wishing you a good day.
