Elena walked into the mansion determined to talk to Esther, she needed to find out if Esther was actually the key to getting rid of Klaus once and for all. She went to take off her shawl, startled by the woman who came up behind her to help remove the shawl. She inwardly groaned when she noticed Stefan approaching her.
"What are you doing here?" Elena asks.
"I could ask you the same thing." Stefan retorts.
"Surprise surprise. Nice tux." Damon says making his presence known as well.
"You're not supposed to be here." Damon adds turning to Elena.
"Well, I am and I'm not leaving until I find out what Esther wants." Elena informs them before brushing past the two in an attempt to find Bonnie, completely oblivious to the original who seemed to be watching her every move.
"Whatever you are thinking, I want in." Rebekah says as she eyes the doppelganger.
"Unfortunately this is a one-man mission, darling sister."Kol said, watching Finn as he approached Elena.
Rebekah huffs and mumbles something before she walks off.
"Uh, if everyone could gather, please." Elijah's voice interrupted Kol's devious planning and brought him back to reality.
Kol made his way to the stairs and watched as the room filled up.
"Welcome, thank you for joining us. You know, whenever my mother brings our family together like this, it's tradition for us to commence the evening with a dance. Tonight's pick is a centuries-old waltz, so if all of you could please find yourselves a partner. Please join us in the ballroom." Elijah says before he descends the stairs.
Kol begins his descent down the stairs watching idly as Damon stops Elena from going up the stairs and asks her for a dance. He frowns when she accepts Damon's offer and makes his way into the ballroom. He supposed the plan could wait.
Kol was paired randomly with a brown-skinned girl with dark hair, he could tell she was a witch when she touched his hand. He didn't pay much attention to her, his eyes on the doppelganger, waiting on the right moment to begin his plan that would definitely piss off Klaus.
"It'll never happen." Bonnie informs as she continued to dance with Kol.
"I'm afraid I don't know what you're talking about." Kol says, his attention leaving Elena and focusing on the witch.
"Elena's too caught up in the Salvatore brothers to pay you any attention." Bonnie says, ignoring his last response.
"Who said I desire her attention?" Kol asks.
Before Bonnie had a chance to respond she was spun around to a different partner. Bonnie turned her head and was surprised to see Elena dancing with Kol instead of Stefan. Elena herself looked shocked at the realization.
"What was that about?" Elena asks, confused as to why he got in the way.
Her plan to distract Damon had fallen into crumbles.
"Thought I'd save you from your overbearing bodyguards." Kol answers as they danced together.
"They're not my bodyguards." Elena tells him with a sigh.
Elena lifts her eyes up to his and immediately feels her heart flutter. She shakes her head and looks back down, silently hoping that the original in front of her did not notice.
"It's complicated." Elena informs.
"You can't keep letting them control you, darling." Kol says looking down at her.
"What- No- They're not-" Elena stammered trying to find the right words.
"Aren't they? I'm Kol, by the way."
"I'm Elena."
"What do you say we get out of here, Elena?" Kol asks, enjoying the way she shivered when he said her name.
"What?" She asks.
"Trust me." Kol let out a small laugh before flashing them out of there.
"Why are we here?" Elena asks as Kol drags her into a bar that was located outside of mystic falls.
"I need a drink." Kol replies as he takes a seat.
"Okay.. why am I here?" Elena asks sitting in a seat next to him.
"To piss off Klaus." Kol answers taping his fingers on the table as he waits for the bartender to come.
"Figures." Elena mummers.
"What can I get you?" The bartender asks, making her presence known.
"Whiskey. Neat." Kol tells her.
"And for the girl?" The bartender asks, looking at Elena.
Elena shook her head, it was a bad idea to get drunk with an original.
"I'm-" Elena begun, only to be interrupted by Kol.
"She'll have the same." Kol says quickly.
The bartender nodded and came back with their drinks.
"You and your predecessors never cease to amaze me." Kol admitted, watching the bartender walk away.
Elena raised an eyebrow but refrained from speaking.
"The way you have brothers wrapped around your finger." Kol says before downing the glass.
"I don't have anyone wrapped around my finger." Elena argued, glancing down at her drink.
"Ah, yes that's right, my mistake. It appears it's the other way around for you." Kol chuckles waving the bartender back over.
"That's not what I meant." Elena says, looking at him.
Kol watches as the bartender pours him a drink and walks away.
"Of course it's not what you meant, darling."
"I'm not like them."
Kol pauses and looks at her.
"You haven't touched your drink." Kol noted.
"I said I didn't want one." Elena reminds him.
"Drink it anyway." Kol demands.
"No." Elena refuses.
"No?" Kol asks.
"Might I remind you that we're in a bar full of humans just ready to be killed? I suggest you reconsider." Kol reminds her with a cruel smirk.
She mentally slaps herself for letting herself get comfortable with him.
Elena raises the glass to her lips, the last time she had drunk had been when she tried to put down an emotionless vampire, and the time before that she had been a completely different person. Elena quickly downed the drink, unprepared for the burning sensation that hit harder than it had in the past.
"You're right." Kol admits.
"What?" Elena asks.
"They would've gladly let these people die, but not you." Kol tells her.
Something shifts inside of Elena at that moment. She wonders if he's being genuine or just toying with her.
"Have another drink." He says as he grabs a bottle of whiskey and pours it in her empty cup.
He sighed when Elena hesitated.
"Just let loose, darling. Besides, it looks like you could use a distraction." Kol says.
And strange enough he had been right. After Stefan almost killed her, the mysterious murders, killing Alaric, and the surprise meeting with Rebekah; a distraction is just what she needed.
Elena picked the glass up and drank it, this time she reveled in the burning sensation at the back of her throat.
