New Jisa story….something I started a while back and didn't have a chance to work on. Hope you all enjoy it! :)
Racing season was well underway and Fairfield Stables had quite the string this year both in Canada and France. Lisa was doing her best to split time between both, which meant she didn't have a lot of time with Jack. She had returned a couple days ago from a two week trip in France in which her racing string did very well in their latest races. She was meeting Jack shortly, right as she was about to leave her office she got an incoming email from the Racing Association. Several of her horses were up for awards in their respective categories and also Fairfield was being recognized. Lisa read the email a couple times to ensure that she was reading it right. She could hardly wait to share this with Jack, although she was a little sad because she knew that Jack would not be present at the ceremony in which the awards would be presented after a race per the email. On her way out of Fairfield, Dan rang her to gloat about Brookland also having a horse in the same category. She was thankfully able to cut the call short and head to meet Jack. Jack was exiting his truck when Lisa pulled up next to him. He walked over to open her door. "Hi there." Lisa got out and Jack closed the door as he leaned down to connect with her in a kiss "I'm glad to see you." Lisa smiled "I'm glad to see you too, I have some exciting news." They walked into Maggies and got a table "So what's your exciting news?" Lisa began to tell him all about the Racing Association. Jack could tell she was bubbling with excitement but that same enthusiasm wasn't quite reaching her eyes, he knew there was something else going on. "That is terrific news, Lis. You've worked so hard and I am so proud of you." Lisa smiled and grabbed his hand "Thank you, you don't know how much it means to me, I know it's not easy on either one of us being apart so much." Jack squeezed her hand "It isn't easy but you know we make it work. I would never ask or expect you to give up your business. When is your next trip?" Before Lisa could even respond, Val Stanton came over causing both Jack and Lisa to silently curse for interrupting. "Hi Jack and Lisa, did I overhear you're going on another trip? Didn't you just get back?" Lisa and Jack looked at each other, Lisa spoke first "Hi Val, indeed I did, just got back a few days ago." Val smirked "Well I guess being home isn't a priority for you." Lisa was inwardly fuming at Val's snide remarks. Jack could see Val needling Lisa was not going to be good "Umm Val, you know Lisa has a successful business in France and she's got my full support." Val looked between them "I see, well you know I ran into Dan earlier and he said he'd be going to France soon also, for Brookland is being recognized for their string also. I suppose you'll be attending that race and awards alone, since you can't get ol' Jack here to travel with you." Jack decided to turn the tables on Val, in a rash decision "You see Val, that's where you are wrong. I think the only one who will be attending alone is Dan, because I'll be accompanying Lisa. What you overheard was us discussing our upcoming trip." Not only was Val shocked, but Lisa was as well, she never expected this response from Jack. Lisa looked at Val smugly "If you don't mind, Jack and I have more important things to discuss than our travel itinerary. So please do give that bit of information to Dan when you speak to him next." Val had no response and simply just walked off. Lisa turned back to Jack "I don't think I have seen Val that speechless in a long time, well since you last dropped the news we got married." Jack reached for her hand again "I know, it's been a while. She shouldn't be prying into our business and I am not going to let her take stabs at you to try to come between us." Lisa smiled at Jack and squeezed his hand "I love you." Their lunch arrived and Lisa didn't bring up the trip. Instead she told Jack about the races and upcoming races she had lined up. She wanted to save the travel discussion for a more private setting. Lisa's phone rang, it was one of her trainers. After speaking for a few minutes she ended the call with "I'll be there soon." She hung up and looked at Jack, "I'm sorry, honey one of my horses isn't acting right and they want me to come look at him. I gotta go to the track." She got up and leaned down to kiss him "I'll see you later." Jack returned the kiss "Ok."
Lisa was in her office having returned from the track, luckily the slight stumble "Comet" took isn't going to put him out of the race next week. After a couple days of rest, he should be able to go back to work. It was a busy time and balancing both strings of young racehorses and finalizing the breeding program for the upcoming year had consumed all of her time. She paused from her typing as the picture of her and Jack in France caught her eye. Leaning back in her chair for a minute, she began to have flashbacks of them throughout the years: The first bbq, cabin fishing trip, dude ranch business, porch discussions, their trip to France before the breakup, the disastrous road trip that led to their reconciliation, their secret wedding, wedding reception. She was deep in thoughts and memories that she didn't even hear anyone enter her office.
"I thought I might find you here." She slightly jumped and looked towards the door where she saw her husband. "I didn't mean to startle you, Lis. Everything ok?" Lisa smiled and got up "Hi, yeah I was daydreaming a bit I guess." Jack wrapped his arms around her when she met him "I hope it was a good dream." Lisa looked up at him "Just a certain cowboy, who managed to sweep a racehorse breeding farm owner off her feet" Jack smirked "Ah, I see, speaking of sweeping said farm owner off her feet." He sat down on the couch and pulled her to sit on his lap catching Lisa by surprise and causing her to let a slight giggle out. "I have a proposal for my beautiful wife, unless she'd rather be alone with her daydream." Lisa wrapped her arm around his neck and pulled his face down to meet hers "Naw, I think I'd rather be with you than be alone, especially tonight." before kissing him passionately. Jack broke their kiss "I'm glad, but I do think we should continue this in a little more private setting, in case your staff walk in." He kissed her again. Lisa looked at her watch "well I'm pretty sure that almost everyone has gone home, I didn't realize how late it had gotten. What is this mention of a private setting? If I recall everyone is home tonight at Heartland so we won't be alone." Jack quickly kissed her and in a flirty tone "Mrs. Stillman, don't I recall you having a house not too far from here?" Lisa smiled catching on "Why yes, I do." Jack continued the flirty banter "Ma'am, do you think you should show this old cowboy the way?" Lisa got off his lap "I'd be happy too." She held her hand out to him and they were soon headed towards her house.
