A/N: I got this idea for a crossover between Danny Phantom and Mortal Kombat a while now. And since not many fanfic writers do this kind of stories, I wanted to give it a shot with my own version and see how popular this will become. I will not only mainly focusing on Danny and his (new) friends, but also on two certain Outworld princesses that will play a major role in the story as well.
Short notice; this story has no connection or whatsoever to my other Danny Phantom story 'The Flame and the Phantom' to avoid any confusion. This one is a whole different Danny Phantom story, taking place a few years after 'Phantom Planet' and the Mortal Kombat part will also differ some from the original (I'm taking some inspiration from MK9, MKX and MK11).
M-rated for fighting scenes, gore, bad language and sexual themes.
Disclaimer: I do not own Danny Phantom nor Mortal Kombat.
CHAPTER I
THE PATH TO A NEW DESTINY
Amity Park. In the not so distant future…
The once beautiful blue skies over earth… were now coloring firing red.
The once great cities … all reduced to rumble.
The once beautiful forests of the world… now in ablaze.
And the people… nothing but corpses lying on the ground for miles. Soldiers. Citizens. Children…. All dead.
It was the beginning of the end. Armageddon.
However… it was not as anyone who would've thought the world would end, like the Bible had foretold. No. Earth was invaded by an army of humanoid demons, led by an evil emperor from another realm called Outworld.
Caught by surprise, the nations of the world could do nothing to stop the invasion. Not even the world's savior Danny Phantom could stop them. Even after he'd called all the ghosts to safe their world couldn't stop the inevitable. Now, all of them were dead.
Anyone who's survived the onslaught were now captured. The men, doomed to be slaves of Outworld for the rest of their lives. The women, cursed to either serve their new masters or breed more slaves.
Earth, and the Ghost-Zone… were lost.
But among all the destruction and death, one man kept fighting. But he was no ordinary man. This man, wearing a black-blue armor, was the God of Thunder and protector of Earthrealm, Raiden.
Overwhelmed by grief and sorrow, having failed to protect his realm, he would not go down without a fight. After having killed over hundreds of Tarkatans, he suddenly was facing their emperor, Shao Khan.
As thundering sparks lightened his eyes, Raiden charged at Shao Khan, who merely smirked evilly as he was able to block every blow from Raiden, punching him hard far backwards till Raiden hit several broken cars. While he coughed out blood, Raiden breathed heavily. All what was on his mind how he had failed to stop Shao Khan from invading Earthrealm. Shao Khan stepped over to him while looking down victorious "It is done. Earthrealm is mine!" Shao Khan then grabbed Raiden by the collar and faced him "Where are the Elder Gods now, Raiden? Hahahaha! Their pathetic Mortal Kombat shackles me no longer."
Shao Khan then punched him several times on the head, before throwing Raiden away, till he hit the wall of a building hard! From the shock, Raiden's amulet fell from his armor and broke into several pieces when it hit the ground. Raiden fell on his knees. He looked up to the sky in despair "Elder Gods… why have you forsaken us?"
Shao Khan then took his Wrath Hammer while charging himself with his green energy and walked over to Raiden. The evil emperor was joined by his wife and queen, Sindel and the elderly evil sorcerer, Shang Tsung, who changed into his younger self after absorbing multiple souls of dead humans and dead ghosts.
The former queen of Edenia smirked at the Thunder God "You've wasted ages on foolish resistance. Now, it's time that your world merges with ours."
Shang Tsung just smirked at Raiden "Too bad you won't live long enough to see it."
Raiden looked down, having lost all hope 'Why? Why didn't I asked Clockwork's help sooner? I should've-" the Thunder God mentally blamed himself, before realizing what he must do as he looked at his broken amulet 'Wait… that's it!' Raiden scoops up most of the remains of his broken amulet and used his last powers on them as he began to speak an ancient chant, making the pieces glow blue.
Sheng Tsung and Sindel glanced at each other in confussion, while Shao Khan laughed at the wounded Thunder God "Yes. Pray to your Elder Gods. They won't safe you, or anyone. They masquerade as dragons, but are mere toothless worms." Then he started to glow firing red, as he himself was now a God "Now, embrace your death, as your world ends."
Raiden continued the chant as the broken amulet pieces sparkled blue lightning from his hands.
Shao Khan raised his Wrath Hammer, ready to finally kill Raiden.
But then, Raiden's eyes shined bright blue as he finished his the prayer with the final words "Ask Clockwork for help!"
Just as Shao Khan's hammer smashes into Raiden's skull, dozens of past events flashed through Raiden's eyes, sending them to someone… to himself… in the past!
Present…
(Lin Kuei Palace)
Raiden stood before Sub-Zero and his friend, Smoke. With behind them all the assassins of the Lin Kuei, including Sektor and Cyrax.
As the world was changing fast and technology progressed, the Grand Master of the Lin Kuei believed that it was best to turn all the members of the clan into cyborgs. Only Sub-Zero, Cyrax and Smoke were against this, knowing that it'll mean that they will lose their freewill. But as they were outnumbered by nearly all their clan members, Sub-Zero desperately sought aid to safe his clan. Thus, Raiden offered his help to prevent the Cyber Initiative to be taken place, in exchange that the Lin Kuei would fight on behalf of Earthrealm in the coming Mortal Kombat tournament.
Raiden's plan was eventually a success, as Sub-Zero defeated his mad Grand Master in fair combat, thus becoming the new leader of the Lin Kuei.
Both Sub-Zero and Smoke bowed before the Thunder God, followed by the whole clan.
Sub-Zero was the first to speak, thanking Raiden for his help to safe his clan "Thank you, Lord Raiden. Without your help, our whole clan would have become an army of lifeless cyborgs."
"The Lin Kuei are in your debt." Smoke said "We will fight for earth's survival in Mortal Kombat."
Raiden gave a nod, feeling proud that the Lin Kuei kept their end of the bargain.
But suddenly, Raiden sees many flashbacks in front of his eyes, making him gasp and clutches his head.
Sub-Zero walks up to him "Lord Raiden? What is wrong?"
"Strange visions…" Raiden answered. But then suddenly a crackling of magic was heard from his amulet. The Thunder God takes his amulet from his chest, seeing it has cracked.
Sub-Zero saw it too "Your amulet. How did that happen?"
"I-" Raiden tried to say before he gasped as he saw a vision flashed before his eyes, showing five of his chosen champions, fading away. When the vision ended. Raiden looked worried while placing his amulet back on his chest "Something's not right. I need to check on this matter." Raiden then raised his arm and vanished in a beam of lightning.
Sub-Zero and Smoke exchanged a look of confussion. However, if there was something going on that even made the Thunder God worried, it can't be good.
Many hours later…
(Earthrealm's Ghost-Zone – Clockwork's lair)
Clockwork, ghost-overseer over the time stream, was looking at his viewscreen while changing into his elder form. Clockwork had sensed some strange events occurring in the flow of time. But as he was the Master of Time, Clockwork had somehow expected this. As he waved with his time staff over the screen while changing into his child form, he was interrupted by one of his Observants.
"Clockwork, you have-"
"A visitor. I know." Clockwork said, interrupting his employee, knowing already what he was going to say.
Understanding, the observant vanished, while a person appeared from the shadows. It was the Thunder God Raiden.
Clockwork formed a grin as he changed into his adult form "Lord Raiden. It has been a long time, old friend."
Raiden just gave a simple nod as he stepped forward "It has indeed been a long time, Clockwork. As you are the Master of Time, then you know why I have come here?"
"Indeed. And I do know the person who would be able to help. Or should I say… five people who will help."
Meanwhile…
(Earthrealm – Fenton Works)
While Maddie Fenton and her 19 year old daughter, Jazz were making diner together, Jack was watching the news on tv with his 17 year old son, Danny. The man felt exhausted of trying to help his son to catch some ghosts. But for Danny, it were just a few ghosts who were very easily to be caught in the newly improved Fenton Thermos and didn't felt tired at all.
The news had already been started, telling mostly about Danny Fenton, or better known as the half-ghost hero 'Danny Phantom'.
The news women started saying, while pictures were shown of Danny, having a simple conversation with Valerie, but the press had labeled it as 'Danny Phantom's new flame?' "The world's greatest hero, Danny Fenton, or should be better say, Danny Phantom seems to have still his way with the ladies, as our famous celebrity has been seen today in a bar with this Afro-American girl named Valerie Grey. And as we can cleary see on the photos, they are having a 'very' close conversation."
Danny groaned in annoyance "Ugh! What does it take for all thos reporters to learn to ask questions first before putting all those pictures of me all over the news!?"
Jack however scratched his chin as he watched the picture on the screen "Well, by the looks of it, you and Valerie are getting well along there." He finished while forming a proudly smile.
Danny just rolled his eyes "Dad! Me and Valerie are just friends." He then paused for a second, reminding himself of having a crush before with Valerie "Well… there was a time that I HAD a crush on her, but I overgrew that. We're just friends now."
Since Danny had saved the world from the Disasteroid, 3 years ago, Danny had become a world celebrity, being praised as the worlds greatest hero. However, having exposed his secret identity did came with a consequence, as he was now followed by paparazzi on a daily basis, having barely any privacy left. He did end up in a relationship with Sam Manson, who was Danny's best friend but had feelings for each other for a long time. However, the fame was slowly killing it all. After nearly 2 years of trying to keep their relationship working, Sam eventually ended it with Danny. The halfa had a hard time after the breakup for a while, and with many girls from either his school or around town on his tail more frequently than while being with Sam, Danny had distant himself from nearly everyone. But luckily for him, Danny had his family and other friends to comfort and support him, even from his older sister Jazz who was now attending Yale university and his adopted sister (clone/cousin) Dani.
At that moment, 15 year old Dani phased through the wall and turned tangible while popping back into her human form "I'm home!"
While her parents greeted her, Dani shared a hug with her big sister, still feeling happy that Jazz would stay for a few more weeks with her family before going on a vacation with her friends. Dani then went over to her big brother, giving him a hug from behind while Danny still sat on the couch "Hey big brother!"
Danny just patted on of her arms while still focusing on the tv, saying with a gloomy voice "Oh… hey Dani."
Dani raised an eyebrow at her big brother, seeing that he was still acting the same since his graduation two days ago "Hey, what gives?"
"Oh… nothing." Danny said before glancing back at the tv.
Dani wasn't easily to be fooled and sat next to Danny, asking him "Hey, c'mon, what's going on, big brother? You've been acting like this ever since your graduation. Well, even months before that." Dani remembered as Danny was also acting like this months before his graduation, but only become worse "What gives?"
Danny wasn't sure how to use the right words "Well, I-"
Suddenly, the news women told a different, more serious story "In other news: After four days, there is still no sign of missing Hollywood star, Johnny Cage! As questions raise over his sudden disappearance after his last sighting at the set of his new upcoming movie, the police begins to speculate that the moviestar might be in serious trouble. Anyone who has any information of Johnny Cage's current whereabouts, should report to the authorities immediately."
"They still haven't found him?" Danny asked confused "That's odd. He's normally always being followed around by fans and paparazzi, knowing always where he hangs out." That earned him a weird look from his family "Well… not as much as I am, but you guys get the point?" all the Fenton family shrugged.
Dani showed some more worry of Johnny Cage's disappearance "Oh, I just hope that not something bad had happened to him."
Danny then teased his adopted little sister "Why? Because he's too hot for that?"
"Shut up. I just love his movies. That's all." Dani glared at Danny before going into the kitchen, helping to set up the table. But then she fired back by teasing her brother "Speaking of which, how is your girlfriend Paulina?"
Now it was Danny who glared at Dani for mentioning his old high school flame, Paulina Sanchez "She's not my girlfriend!" he annoyingly sighed, thinking about his last and only date with Pauline "It was just one date. And I did not enjoyed it…"
"Because she just wanted to see you being 'Danny Phantom' and not the real Danny, right?" Dani teased again.
"Danielle, that's enough." Maddie told her adopted daughter.
Later that evening. Danny was in his room, sitting before his desk in front of his computer while video chatting with his friend, Tucker Foley, who's still the mayor of Amity Park. Tucker was curious that after he'd heard from the media that his best friend was messing around with his ex-girlfriend. But it became more clearer to him after Danny had explained what really happened
"So, let me get this straight. You and Valerie aren't dating?"
Danny just sighed while resting his head on his right hand "No, Tucker. Me and Valerie are just friends."
Suddenly, Danny and Tucker saw on both their screens that Sam wanted to join the chat. "Oh, it's Sam."
Tucker clicked on a few buttons and allowed Sam to join the chat.
"Hey guys!" Sam said while waving at them.
Both Danny and Tucker waved back "Hey Sam. You okay?" Danny asked.
Sam gave a shrug "Well, if you're sitting first class on a plane. Then yeah." She raised her webcam, showing she was indeed flying first class on an airplane, heading to the Bahama's.
Tucker gave a smirk, with a slight bit of jealousy "Lucky you."
Sam turned the webcam back to her "Hey, you're the mayor of Amity Park, Tucker. Sure you can buy a first class seat yourself?"
Tucker however disagreed on that part "Okay first of all: I do not abuse my position as mayor to spend lavish money on a first class ticket, for I got a reputation to keep up. And second: I can't afford any holidays at the moment as I've got tons of mayor stuff to do."
Danny chuckled as he told Tucker "You mean, doing numerous mayor stuff that concerns Valerie?"
That made Tucker to groan in annoyance "Correction: me and Valerie aren't together anymore. Remember?"
Danny and Sam both chuckled as they were just teasing him "Relax, Tuck. We know you and Valerie broke up a month ago." Danny stated. Then he asked Tucker "So, how are you holding up?"
Tucker gave a shrug "Honestly, I did felt miserable for a few days, but I've overgrown it. Me and Valerie are still friends so that count for something, right?"
Just then, Tucker was being called by his assistant in his room "Mr. Mayor? The meeting is about to start." Tucker looked over his computer at his assistant.
Tucker nodded and said "I'll be there. Give me a minute." The assistant nodded and walked out of the office while Tucker returned to look at the webcam, saying "Sorry guys. I need to go."
"Okay." Danny said while giving a shrug "Talk to you later."
Tucker gave a nod and broke contact, leaving Danny alone with Sam in the video chat.
Both of them felt a bit awkward, not knowing what to say. Though they were still on good terms after their failed relationship, their friendship hadn't been the same ever since and with their complete focus on their final exams, didn't gave them the proper time to try to reconnect.
"So…" Sam started asking "…how are you holding up, Danny? All ready to go to Florida to start your training as an astronaut?"
Danny felt a bit unsure to say, but tried to lie "Uh… yeah, I am. What about you? Already pumped up to start your job at the EPA after the summer?"
Sam nodded "Absolutely." There was a moment of silence between them, until Sam finally said after a few minutes "Listen, Danny… I'm sorry that it didn't worked out between us." Danny nearly wanted to say that Sam didn't needed to apologize, but held himself back and let Sam finish what she wanted to say "I know how hard you've tried to make it work, way harder than I did, but…"
Danny then finally said "Sam… you don't need to apologize. I'm as much to blame for. It's just that I have this responsibility to protect Amity Park from the ghosts… that I've made too many excuses of not making time for you." he then looked with a bit of sadness to her "I never meant to hurt to you. You know that, right?"
Sam gave a nod, while looking as sad as Danny was "I know, Danny." Then she tried to cheer him up by saying "But… I know that someday you're gonna find the right one."
Danny gave a shrug "Maybe." Clearly he was feeling a bit better.
So, Sam changed the subject and asked "So… now that you're going away to join NASA, I guess your 'little sister' is gonna watch over town while you're gone?"
Danny was just about to answer, when suddenly a blue fog escaped his mouth, which was his Ghost Sense. Danny narrowed his eyes as he could sense who it was and glared at his back "Come out, Danielle. I know you're in here."
Dani then appeared where Danny was looking, making her cross her arms in annoyance "How did you know it was me?"
"Because, unlike you, I've worked on my Ghost Sense and can now recognize nearly every ecto plasm signature of any ghost. And also because you always try to scare me."
Dani walked over to her big brother, still disappointed that her attempt to scare Danny had failed, but asked "You've got to learn me that one day, Danny." Then she saw Sam on the webcam, changing the look on her face to being happy and waved to her "Hey Sam!"
Sam gave a wave back "Hi Dani."
Then, the captain spoke through the speakers on Sam's plane "Uh folks… we're about to enter through a heavy storm, so expect some turbulence. Please put your seat back to their positions and turn off all electronics until we're passed this storm. Thank you."
Sam returned her focus on the webcam, saying "Sorry Danny, I gotta go. Talk to you later."
Danny gave a nod and both him and Dani waved Sam goodbye "Bye Sam. Have fun at the Bahamas."
Sam gave a wave before closing her laptop, breaking contact.
When Dani sat down at Danny's bed, she first wanted to ask why Danny was being down like this, but wanted to ask first if it was a good idea of her taking responsibility to protect Amity Park "Hey, you're sure that I'm ready for this when you're off to Florida? What if I need help?"
Danny gave an ensuring smile to his adopted sister while turning off his computer and sat next to her "Dani, I've learned you everything you need to know how to take care of those evil ghosts yourself. I know you're ready." Dani wasn't so sure. But before speaking, Danny continued "And if it comes to help, Valarie is there to help you around, right?"
This surprised the halfa girl, having to work beside Valarie "You mean… me and… Valarie are…?" she looked down, trying to hide her blush.
Danny raised an eyebrow as why his adopted little sister was acting like this "Dani, are you and Valarie-" suddenly, his and Dani's ghost sense went off. Both nearly jumped from the bed and instantly transformed into their ghost forms. But then Danny recognized this ecto plasm signature "No wait. This is a friendly."
Both then saw a ghost phasing up from the floor. As it became intangible, both Danny and Dani recognized this one very well. It was the Box Ghost.
Trying to look scary, he yelled "Beware! I am the Box Ghost!"
Knowing how weak the Box Ghost was, despite trying to look strong and scary, Danny narrowed his eyes while Dani said friendly "Hi Boxy. How is it going?"
Box Ghost then also became friendly "Oh, hey Danielle."
Danny then smiled as well, remembering that the Box Ghost and many other ghosts had stopped invading the human world ever since 'Boxy' and the Lunch Lady ghost had been married last year. Danny then started to remember when he and Dani had attended Box Ghost and Lunch Lady's wedding, as he was invited to serve as Box Ghost's man of honor and Dani as one of the bridesmaids, having had a few nice and friendly conversations with some of Danny's (former) enemies, even forming friendships (of sorts) with a few, like Kitty and Johnny 13. And even Ember.
But still wandering why the Box Ghost would come here, he asked "You just wanted to come by and say hi?"
Box Ghost shook his head as he, trying to say with some drama "I have come here to bring you something that is of utmost importance!"
"Like what?" Danny asked.
Box Ghost then took something out a letter from his pocket and handed it over to Danny "Clockwork told me to bring you this."
Danny raised an eyebrow as to why Clockwork would send him a letter, but figuring that if it ever came to Clockwork, this couldn't be good news.
While Danny took the letter, Dani asked Box Ghost "So, you're the Ghost-Zone's mail deliverer now?"
For a moment, Box Ghost just stared at her, before he yelled "Beware!" and flew away.
Danny looked at the letter and turned it, being sealed with a red stamp, in the shape of a dragon's head. He looked at it confused as he'd never seen this kind of symbol before, but broke the seal and opened the letter, saying:
Daniel,
Come to my lair at once.
Clockwork
Danny and Dani exchanged a confused look. Knowing that this was very serious, Danny became intangible and phased down the floor, into his parents lab. Once he opened the Fenton Portal by pressing his thump on the genetic lock and was ready to enter the Ghost-Zone, Dani suddenly appeared as well, saying "Hey, I'm coming with you."
Danny however tried to talk her out of it "No. If Clockwork wants to see me, it could be very important. You just stay here and keep guard, okay?"
"But I can help." Dani added.
Seeing it was pointless to start an argument with his little sister about it, as she always won those ones, Danny eventually gave a nod "Urgh. Alright, but if Clockwork only wants my help, you go back home, understand?"
Dani nodded "Okay."
Both then flew into the Portal, entering the Ghost-Zone and headed towards Clockwork's lair.
During the flight, which would take like an hour before reaching Clockwork's lair, Danny, for some reason, was thinking back when he and his adopted little sister attended Box Ghost's and Lunch Lady's wedding.
* Flashback from one year ago *
During the wedding reception, which was at Pandora's lair, many of the invited ghosts were having lots of fun, including Danny and Dani. Both halfa's were thankful that despite being surrounded by former enemies, Walker had explained that during a ghost wedding a ceasefire would be installed for all the ghosts attending the wedding (similar to the annual Christmas-truce) and if anyone violates the wedding-truce earns a oneway-ticket to his Ghost Prison.
As many ghost couples were dancing on the dancefloor, Danny was having a conversation with Johnny 13 and Dani at a table in the middle, having a laugh here and then.
Danny then told Johnny "You know, despite I'd never thought of ever seeing you in a tuxedo, it does suit you, Johnny."
Johnny just rolled his eyes "Yeah, well, Kitty made me to wear this stupid outfit."
Dani raised an eyebrow at him "What are you talking about? At least your suit is great." Then she stood up from her chair, showing her bright pink dress with all kinds of things that looked like ingredients you add to a pie "Do even realize how ridiculous me and the other bridesmaids look in THIS?! I freakin' look like I just came out of the bakery."
That made both Danny and Johnny laugh at her. Danny then teased his adopted little sister "All that needs is a little more sprinkles here," he pointed to her dress "And some whipped cream there." He then pointed to her head. Johnny laughed even harder, imagining Dani as a bakery pie.
Dani annoyingly walked away, joining into a conversation that Desiree was having with the bride, the Lunch Lady ghost.
A few tables away from the two laughing guys, Ember, who was wearing a black leather cleavage dress, was sitting all alone. She was just looking at all the happy ghost couples while thinking about her failed relationship with Skulker. She sighed deeply while resting her head on her hand. Even though she was glad to have finally dumped that 'lousy hunter' Skulker, she'd been slowly feeling lonely.
That was when Kitty, who also wear a black leather cleavage dress while also wearing a fishnet panties, came over to her friend and asked "Why don't you ask Danny to dance with you?"
Ember looked surprised at Kitty before frowning as she was against the idea to dance with the guy that was practically her enemy "What? No way! He's a dipstick. And besides, I don't really dance much." She finished by trying to make an excuse.
Kitty however didn't gave up "Oh come on, Em, Danny's a great guy and after what happened between you and Skulker, you need to have a little fun."
"Kitty! He and I are practically enemies."
"So? That doesn't mean you still can't have a little fun." Kitty fired back and then asked "Besides, when was the last time that you and Danny had actually fought?"
That was when Ember had lost for words "Uuuhh… three wee-months… ago?" Ember lied.
Kitty narrowed her eyes at her, not falling for that lame excuse "Yeah right. Ember, I know that you and 'dipstick' hadn't fought each other ever since we've helped him safe the world from that Disateroid." Ember blushed while looking away in embarrassment, as it was true that she and Danny hadn't had any conflict in two years. Kitty smirked and pulled Ember up from her seat and gently pushing her towards Danny "Go on. It'll be fun."
Ember pouted a little, but did as her friend suggested and walked over to Danny, who was still laughing with Johnny 13 .
"Hey, dipstick."
Surprised, Danny looked at Ember as his laughter quickly faded when he saw Ember standing next to him "Ember? Wha… what do you want?" Danny asked with an raised eyebrow.
"Would you… like to dance with me?" Ember asked with an even redder blush.
This made Danny even more surprised. Even Johnny had not expected this move from Ember. Danny thought about it for a few seconds before answering"Uhm…. Sure." he stood up from his chair and took her to the dance floor. When they began to dance, a romantic song began to play.
Johnny 13 was rubbing his eyes, not believing what he'd just witnessed. Ember, the rock-diva of the Ghost-Zone, was dancing together with the halfa Danny Phantom.
Kitty sat next to Johnny with a smirk on her face, feeling that her best friend and their former enemy, who she and Johnny consider as a new friend, are gonna remember this moment for sure.
Danny and Ember didn't really enjoyed being in each others arms the first ten seconds, but as they slowly started to relax, Danny suddenly asked "So… did you come to the wedding alone, without Skulker?"
When he finished asking that question, Ember started to frown at him. Danny felt really awkward for asking that kind of stupid question. But after a few seconds, her frown vanished and Ember sighed with some disappointment in her voice "We… aren't together anymore." That surprised Danny "And before you're gonna ask, dipstick, I broke up with him… because of multiple reasons. Don't ask what." She warned him, not wishing to share her breakup in full detail.
Deciding not to ask further regarding her now ex-boyfriend Skulker, Danny ensured her "Well… at least you have all the space you need, right?"
Surprised that Danny gave her that kind of understanding, made Ember to form a small smile "Yeah, it does." Then she asked him, wandering something ever since he and Dani showed up for the wedding "So, why did you came over with your cousin? I'd figured you would maybe show up with your goth girlfriend?" Ember then gave Danny a smirk "Payback."
That made Danny smile a bit "Well to make it more clear, Danielle is not my cousin anymore. My Mom and Dad had adopted her two years ago."
"Really? Oh that's nice." Ember said, feeling happy for Danny that his clone/cousin was now his adopted little sister. Ember was a bit surprised of acting like this towards Danny.
Danny gave a nod, before looking sad, as he answered Ember's second question "As to why I didn't came with my 'goth girlfriend', me and Sam… we… broke up a few months ago."
That surprised Ember "Really? I thought you two lovebirds were like over hills for each other? Well, don't count the first time when I 'hypnotized' you with my music."
That memory of him being under Ember's spell so that she could control the world with her hit song 'Remember' did earned from Danny a small smile for some reason. Danny then sighed as he stated "Honestly, me and Sam were… at least for a while. After the Disasteroid was gone and I… showed the world my secret identity." Ember gave a nod, as she'd heard from other ghosts that he had indeed decided to reveal his secret. "Well, in the beginning it was great for me and Sam. But that was until I realized that being the world's greatest hero also came with some dire consequences. Over obsessed fans, paparazzi at nearly every corner following my moves and being chased by other girls. We practically didn't had any privacy left for ourselves."
Somehow, Ember could imagine how hard it must've been for him to have all this fame and having no privacy, as it was close to what rock-stars would have to deal with every day "Geez. That's terrible."
Danny gave a nod as he went on "Anyway, we've tried it for the past two years, but… having to escape nearly every reporter in town and having to deal with so many ghost threats… we barely could find any time for ourselves. And when we did… well… it wasn't as we thought it would turn out… and it just went downhill further and further…. Then one day, when I arranged a date for ourselves, I… ran into numerous troubles along the way, a horde of fans was easy to avoid, but coming across several sudden ghost attacks, I couldn't just turn away and let them hurt people. By the time I finally made it… Sam was already gone. When I called her… she said she couldn't take it anymore and that after tonight it was clear to her that it wouldn't work out between us."
Ember just listened, while they still danced, feeling sorry for Danny "Gosh dipstick. That's horrible…" Despite they were enemies, Ember had this feeling she wanted to be there for him. She placed her arms around Danny's neck and formed a sweet smile "Well… seems we're both in the same mess, huh?"
That made Danny to raise an eyebrow at her, but then he smiled "I guess so."
While the song went on, Danny and Ember couldn't stop but looking into each other eyes. When the song nearly ended, the both of them leaned in and were very close to kiss.
Suddenly, Skulker flies through the wall with an angry look on his face! As he flew above the crowd, he glared daggers at Danny "Get your hands off my girlfriend!" he then took out several guns out of his suit and started firing at Danny!
Danny quickly reacted and grabbed Ember and jumped out of the way! "Look out!"
As some of the ghost guests stood back, Skulker landed in the middle of the room. Ember glared at her ex-boyfriend "What the hell is wrong with you!?"
Skulker didn't listen and charged at Danny, who jumped high and avoided Skulker's attack. He stopped and glared at the halfa "Now you're going to get it, Ghost boy! No one dances with Ember but me! Nobody!"
Danny took off his ruined Colbert and frowned at the Ghost hunter "And you choose to crash Box Ghost's and Lunch Lady's wedding, just because I was dancing with you ex? Grow up."
Dani then joined in, standing next to her big brother while removing that stupid bridesmaid dress, showing her black-white ghost shirt and baggy pants "Yeah, go find your own party, can-head!"
That insult about his robotic suit infuriated Skulker.
But as he took out two rocket launchers, he was suddenly shocked by a fired green baton and fell on the floor, restrained.
While Skulker was unable to move, he saw the one who'd fired that green ectoplasmic shot. It was one of Walker's police officers, joined by two others. All three moved aside as their boss, Walker looked with disappointment at Skulker while holding out his book with 'his rules' "Crashing into a ghost wedding without any invitation, violated the sacred wedding-truce and assaulted the man honor. That's against the rules. Take him away." He ordered his goons.
All three ghost police officers nodded, with one saying "With pleasure."
While another said while raising Skulker from the floor "You're going behind bars for a long time."
Skulker struggled hard to get loose, as he was thrown into the GZPD truck and brought to the Ghost Prison.
Danny walked over to Ember to see if she was okay and asked "Are you alright?"
Ember nodded "Yeah…"
Kitty then walked in disgust to her friend, saying "What's Skulker's problem, anyway? I can't believe he started a fight at a ghost wedding. What a jerk!"
Danny then gave a grin while crossing his arms "Good thing that Walker arrested him before I could really hurt Skulker's butt."
That made Dani, Ember and Kitty giggle, with Ember saying "Right. That's exactly what I was thinking."
Danny then spotted Box Ghost and Lunch Lady. Seeing all the mess that Skulker had done to the wedding reception, Danny felt he owned them an apology, so he walked over to them and said "Hey, listen, I'm sorry for what happened to your wedding. This… was not supposed to happen."
Box Ghost raised his hand, ensuring Danny "You don't need to apologize. It's Skulker who is to blame for."
Lunch Lady nodded and said with a sweet voice "Yes dear, you at least held yourself," but then Lunch Lady turned into her angry mode "OR THIS WOULD BE THE LAST WEDDING YOU WOULD EVER ATTEND TO!" then she returned to her sweet side and asked while holding up a plate with cake "Wedding cake?"
Danny gave a nod and took the plate with wedding cake "Sure."
* End of flashback *
Danny wished that he could spend more time with Ember after the wedding reception, but didn't found or spoke to her after he'd apologized to Box Ghost and Lunch Lady. Though he was disappointed, Danny formed a goofy smile, imagining what would have happened if he could spend more time with her. He knew she was formally his enemy, but after nearly 3 years of not invading the human world, he began to wonder that she had enough of trying to take over the world. He had to admit, she did wanted to be there for Danny when facing the hard part of his breakup with Sam.
Dani snapped her fingers in front of her big brother's face "Hello? Earth to Danny! You in there?" Danny brought himself out of his thoughts as the younger halfa told "We're here."
Danny looked up ahead and saw indeed that he and Dani had arrived at Clockwork's lair.
Inside Clockwork's lair, there were a few other ghosts in there as well: Kitty, Johnny 13, Ember and Skulker.
Ember tried to ignore her ex while Kitty asked as she held up the letter she and Johnny got from Clockwork "Why would Clockwork want to meet all four of us here?"
Johnny shrugged "Not a clue, kitten." But then he took a better look at the dragon seal "What kind of symbol is this anyway? I've never seen this one before and I've never seen Clockwork using it."
"Me neither." Ember told as she held up the same letter she got from clockwork, having the same instructions.
Just then, Danny and Dani entered Clockwork's lair. Both were surprised to see Johnny 13, Kitty and Ember in here too "Johnny? Kitty? Ember?" Danny asked confused. But then he glared at Skulker and asked coldly "Aren't you supposed to be behind bars?"
The ghost hunter's anger rose as he saw the halfa "YOU!" he draw his blade and charged at Danny!
Danny and Dani got to their fighting stance.
But before Skulker got get a shot to either hurt Danny or Dani, a sudden lighting strike hit in between them, shocking everyone!
"ENOUGH!" a person yelled.
All six looked at where it came from, seeing a man wearing white robes and a blue vest, his face overshadowed by a straw hat while his eyes glowed with lightning.
Then, Clockwork appeared in his child form, saying "I see you have already met Raiden."
"Raiden?" Danny asked Clockwork confused. Kitty, Johnny 13 and Ember too were confused as to who this Raiden was. Only Skulker didn't show any emotion.
Raiden stepped forward and introduced himself "I am Lord Raiden. God of Thunder and Protector of Earthrealm."
"Whoa whoa, wait a minute?" Ember asked "A God? You?"
"Earthrealm?" Johnny 13 asked confused.
Skulker just rolled his eyes "Yeah right."
Raiden had expected this confusion from Danny Phantom and the other ghosts "I understand you are all confused and have a lot of questions. The reason that me and Clockwork had summoned the five of you here, is because you all have been chosen to defend the realm of earth… in a tournament called: Mortal Kombat."
This made all the ghosts to glance at each other in even more confusion "Mortal Kombat?" Kitty asked.
"Defend it from who?" Dani asked.
Raiden glanced at her for a moment with a raised eyebrow, saying "I do not believe I'd summoned you to be here, Danielle Fenton."
Clockwork placed his hand on Raiden's shoulder, ensuring him while changing into his adult form "It's alright, Raiden. She'll understand."
Raiden nodded at his friend before glancing back at his new chosen champions, using his magic to show images of the Earth and the many other realms "Earthrealm, together with this dimension of the dead that you now call 'the Ghost-Zone', is but one of many realms. One of them is a forsaken land called Outworld, ruled by an immortal emperor. His name is Shao Kahn." Raiden showed an image of the barren wasteland of Outworld, together with the evil emperor.
Johnny got the chills from seeing the image of Shao Kahn "Geez dude. He looks worse than Pariah Dark." Kitty nodded, as the dark memories of Pariah Dark when he was freed 3 years ago was still fresh in her mind.
Raiden then changed the image, showing the Elder Gods when they created all the realms "In the very beginning, when the realms were created and divided equally, the Elder Gods knew that some of its rulers would do anything to invade the other realms and merge it into a single one. So, the Elder Gods created a tournament that would only be fought once in every generation, called Mortal Kombat, to give each realm a chance to defend itself. If one realm challenges the other and wins 10 straight victories in Mortal Kombat, it gives the winner the right to invade and merge the realm to their own."
Raiden then showed the other realms, including the Tarkatan, Shokan and Osh-Tekk realms, and finally the once beautiful realm of Edenia, showing how all were destroyed by the evil emperor's army and merged with Outworld "For the past thousands of years, Shao Kahn used Mortal Kombat to merge other realms to his own, wanting to rule and enslave everything and everyone. The realm of Edenia was the last to fall into Shao Kahn's hands. Now, he seeks to conquer Earthrealm."
Then, Raiden showed the many Mortal Kombat tournaments that the warriors of Earthrealm had participated, only to lose nearly every time as they were killed by Shao Kahn's thugs "By now, Outworld has won 9 straight victories. This will be the 10th tournament. If they win this one, it'll mean the end of Earthrealm and all of mankind will be doomed to slavery for the rest of their existence."
Danny, Danielle, Ember, Kitty, Johnny 13 and Skulker were all surprised to hear this tale, that everything they'd thought how the earth and the universe was created was all not true.
Danny then glanced at both Raiden and Clockwork "So… you've chosen us, just us to save the world?"
"Yes, and no. You and several others are chosen by fate to fight on behalf of Earthrealm." Then Raiden turned to Clockwork "It was Clockwork who'd suggested the five of you to participate."
Johnny 13 was conflicted about all of this and asked "But why us? Aren't there enough fighters for you already?" that comment earned a glare from both Danny and Kitty as how cowardly that sounded from Johnny.
Raiden returned his glance at his new chosen warriors while Clockwork stated "All those fighters… they're spirited and strong… but as the Master of Time, I know what lies in their souls. And yours." Clockwork then changed into his elderly form and said with a serious look "One of you… will decide the outcome of the tournament." All of them, except for Skulker, exchanged surprised looks on each other.
Skulker just crossed his arms in disbelief at Raiden "Yeah right. So you expect us to fight to safe all those billions of meat bags of the human world? Not a chance." He said coldly, not willing to risk his own (after)life just to safe the mortals.
Though Kitty, Johnny 13 and Ember were not happy at how cruel that sounded from Skulker, although he did had a point as this was beyond anything they'd ever faced before.
Danny knew he had to somehow convince them and said confident "Well, I'm in on this!" that made Clockwork to form a smile, as he was sure that Danny would do anything to save the world again. Danny then glanced at the other ghosts "What about you guys?"
Skulker just frowned, while the other three were doubting about this.
"C'mon you guys!" Danny said, not believing they would just abandon earth to its fate "We were all chosen to safe the world, doesn't that count for something? I mean, did you guys ever quit in the past when I send any of you back into the Ghost-Zone after defeating you multiple times?" they all exchanged looks, as Danny had a point "Did you guys turned your backs when the Disasteroid was about to destroy the earth?" the three of them shook their heads, while Skulker looked away.
"He has a point. We never quit before, so why should we quit now?" Ember spoke. She then walked over to Danny and gave him a confident smile "I'm with you, dipstick."
Danny smiled, seeing that at least one of the new chosen are with him.
Johnny 13 too walked over to Danny, standing next to Ember "I'm not a hero like you, Danny. But no one messes with my home. I'm in."
Kitty then too walked over to Danny while holding Johnny's hand "Me too."
Danny gave a nod, before glancing at Skulker "Skulker? What about you?"
For a moment, Skulker just glanced at Danny, before he frowned and said "Forget it." he then turned and started walking out of Clockwork's lair.
All four of them, and even Dani glared angry at Skulker. Danny flew at him and stopped him in his tracks "Skulker! This is more than just our selfish ego. The fate of the world, and the Ghost-Zone is at stake! And you're just gonna walk away?!"
"I'm a hunter, ghost child. Not a warrior." Skulker said before passing by Danny.
But after taking a few steps, Clockwork said while changing from his elderly form into his child form "Don't forget Skulker. The only reason you're out of prison is because I've made that possible after a good talk with Walker." He then asked while changing into his adult form "Do you prefer to be send back to your cell? I can just rewind time and send you back, while you're listening day in and day out to the poems of your 'roommate', the Ghost-Writer."
Now Skulker was conflicted. He admitted in his mind that he hated of listening nonstop to all those stupid poems of the Ghost-Writer, but was still not going to safe human lives.
Danny then got an idea of convincing Skulker and said "Just think about it, Skulker. Why would you spend the rest of your afterlife here in the Ghost-Zone, only to be feared among the humans and ghosts? If you're participating in Mortal Kombat, you could expend your 'hunting' into the other realms. Why being feared as the ghost-hunter here in Earthrealm, while you can be feared in every realm?"
The other ghosts were surprised that Danny even suggested this to Skulker. The ghost-hunter did consider this as he did got bored of only hunting in the Ghost-Zone or in the human world sometimes, or only hunting Danny Phantom. He sighed as he glanced at Danny "Fine. I'm in. But let me make this clear to you, ghost child! I'm only in for this is so that I'll be able to ad more trophies on my wall, not your selfness deeds to save earth."
Danny gave a shrug "Fine by me."
Raiden began to smile as walked over to his newly chosen warriors "Good, that's settled."
Suddenly, Dani said out loud "I'm in too! I want to fight in Mortal Kombat too!"
All exchanged looks, while Danny was completely against this. He was about to talk his adopted sister out of this, but Raiden told her calmly "I admire your courage, Danielle. But you're too young to fight in Mortal Kombat."
Dani was not gonna take that answer, even from a God "Like hell I am staying here while my big brother is out there, risking his own life! He taught me everything! Let me fight!"
Danny then walked over to her "No! Raiden is right, you're not ready for something like this."
"Danny!" Dani annoyingly moaned "I'm going with you and you cannot stop-" suddenly, Raiden placed his right index and middle finger on Dani's forehead, making her head glow a bit as she stood there, frozen. After a little while, Raiden removed his fingers from her head, making it go back to normal as she sadly nodded to her big brother "Okay. I'll stay."
Danny raised an eyebrow as he asked Raiden "Uhh… what did you just do?"
"I just convinced her, Daniel." Raiden answered.
Then Johnny asked "So, when will we leave for this tournament?"
Raiden raised his hand "Not so fast. You and the others are strong, but Mortal Kombat isn't like anything that you all had ever faced before. Any of Shao Khan's chosen champions are far stronger than anything you'd ever seen, that neither your ghost powers would be of any use."
That made them all shocked and angry "And now you're telling us?!" Kitty nearly yelled.
Then, Raiden ensured them "But… I can teach how to fight."
That earned some curiosity from Ember, so she asked "How?"
"I have certain allies that can teach every single one of you fighting skills that'll bring you all to a new level in both strength and spirit. Once fully trained, you would not even have to use your ghost powers anymore."
This surprised the five ghosts even more "Not even use our ghost powers anymore… are you serious?!" Johnny asked, but seeing that Raiden meant it, Johnny apologized "Sorry. Of course you're serious."
Then Kitty asked Johnny's question again "But you've still not told us when this Mortal Kombat would take place, Raiden. Or where it will be."
Raiden nodded and stated "The tournament will be held in Outworld, 2 weeks from now."
"2 WEEKS?!" all asked shocked.
"How are we suppose to get strong enough to fight in Mortal Kombat within 2 weeks!?" Skulker demanded.
Raiden raised his hand, ensuring them "As time is of the essence, Clockwork is the one providing time."
All glanced at Clockwork, who turned to his elderly form while nodding "I can make those 2 weeks into 3 months. Should be enough time for you all to be trained."
Then Raiden further explained "I will take you all to a place where me and my allies will train you to achieve your true potential. Meet me at the Amity Park harbor in 6 hours."
Everyone exchanged a few glances, before Ember reminded herself "But how are we gonna get to the Amity Park harbor, dipstick? As I remembered, your folks guard the Portal even more than usual."
That was when Dani got an idea "Oh, you can use the Fenton Thermos!" she then held up a smaller new version Fenton Thermos that she'd kept in her pocket.
Danny nodded as he knew what Dani had in mind and told the others "Hey, yeah! I can smuggle you all out of the Ghost-Zone, so we'll meet Raiden at the harbor."
Seeing that this could work, the other four ghosts nodded while Clockwork adviced them "You should all pack your things, but only take those you need in those 3 months you'll be spending during Raiden's training."
Danny nodded and told the other four ghosts "Right. Meet me at the Fenton Portal in five hours."
Johnny and Kitty gave a thumps up "We'll see you then." Johnny 13 said before he and Kitty stepped on his bike and drove away to their lair to pack some belongings.
Ember gave a small wave to Danny, trying to hide her blush "I'll… see you later…" and then flew away.
However, Skulker just stood where he was, not leaving. Danny narrowed his eyes at him "Don't you need to pack?"
Skulker didn't show any emotion while saying "A hunter like me, has everything he needs right now."
Danny then smirked at him aimed the Thermos at him "Good." And captured him in the Thermos.
"A little warning before you capture me, ghost boy?!" Skulker yelled in anger while being captured inside the Thermos.
Danny just closed the Thermos while smirking.
Dani then wandered and asked her brother "But… how are you gonna convince Mom and Dad?"
Just as Danny was trying to think of something, Raiden used his magic to make a flyer appear in his hand and gave it to Danny "Maybe this will be enough to give you, as you mortals call today: An alibi?"
Danny looked at the flyer, showing a peaceful vacation resort somewhere in the Rocky Mountains. Danny smiled as this will be the perfect cover. He folded the flyer in his pocket and said before he and his little sister left "We'll be at the harbor, Raiden."
Raiden gave a simple nod as Danny and Dani flew away.
Clockwork then asked Raiden, being sure they were alone "You didn't told them the entire truth, Raiden." And then changed into his child form.
Raiden shook his head "No. If I did, they would've refused to participate. But I will tell them… when the time is right." He then took the amulet from his chest and looked at the cracks "I can see now why my future-self had sended these memories, telling me to ask for your aid to look for other warriors."
Clockwork nodded, as he'd studied Raiden's amulet when he arrived to him first "These flashes from your future-self are a guide to both you and your warriors to defeat Shao Kahn. But remember, old friend, disrupting the flow of time will have serious consequences."
Raiden nodded and placed his amulet back on his chest before making a bow to Clockwork "Thank you for your help, Clockwork."
Clockwork changed into his adult form before giving a nod "Anytime, Lord Raiden."
Then, Raiden teleported away in a flash of lightning.
5 and an half hours later…
(Earthrealm – Fenton Works)
After having packed enough clothes and supplies for at least a few weeks in two sport bags, Danny made a phone call to Valerie, telling her of his plans of going away for a while and asking her if she could watch over Amity Park together with Dani while he was gone. Valerie agreed, as she hadn't any plans for the summer. Danny then grabbed one bag and placed it over his shoulder, while holding the other in his right hand and went out of his bedroom.
As Danny walked down the stairs, both his parents and his two sisters were waiting for him. Though Jack and Maddie were confused why Danny suddenly would made 'a last minute change' to go on a vacation, Danny lied that he just needs some time alone so he can have a clear mind again. Jazz supported her brother's decision (not knowing where Danny really was going to) as she believes that all the fame and responsibility that Danny had to carry was surely taking a toll on him and needs a time-out so he can get things back on track before going to NASA. Jack and Maddie now understood their son's problem and decided not to stop him.
Danny tried to act normal, but was hoping deep down that nothing bad would happen to him in the tournament and would not come home alive. Though he wanted to share a big hug, letting them know that no matter what'll happen he'll always love his family, but held himself and just shared a normal hug.
Jack rubbed his head "Have fun, kiddo."
Maddie then told Danny "Make sure you'll keep in touch?"
Danny nodded "I will." He then shared a hug with Jazz.
"Take all the time you need, Danny." Jazz ensured him.
Danny gave a nod and walked out of the house, where Dani was waiting for him, wanting to 'drop Danny at the bus stop and say goodbye there' but she knew where he needed to go. After waving his family goodbye, Danny walked with Dani into another street. After being out of sight, both transformed into their ghost forms and flew to the harbor.
When they made it at the harbor, Danny released Ember, Kitty, Johnny 13 and Skulker from the Thermos.
While Ember carried a suitcase and her guitar over her shoulder, Kitty and Johnny 13 just had a few bags, while Skulker didn't had anything with him as he had all he needed in his robotic suit.
Skulker at first wanted to have a word with the ghost boy for locking him up in the Thermos without telling first, but then Raiden appeared in a flash of lighting, together with three other men. Sub-Zero, Sektor and Cyrax.
Cyrax whispered to his friend Sektor "Are those the new chosen warriors? Not what I've expected."
Sektor whispered back "Lord Raiden expects us to train them. If these are the warriors he spoke of, we must trust in the Thunder God."
Sub-Zero thought the same thing, though he had a feeling that these four ghosts and the ghost-hybrid had a long way to go before they'll be ready for the tournament."
The Thunder God and the Lin Kuei assassins walked over to their new team members. Raiden spoke first "I'm glad that you've all come here." Then he introduced the new ghost warriors to their mentors "These are the people that will train you in the coming '3 months'. Sub-Zero, Sektor and Cyrax of the Lin Kuei."
"The Lin Kuei?" Ember asked confused.
Raiden stated "They are part of an ancient Chinese clan of assassins, miss McLain. Much will be explained later. Now, we must go."
Danny gave a nod and glanced at his adopted sister. Since he never got to show his way of saying goodbye to his family, Dani was all he could show how much he cares about them. Both embraced in a tight hug. Tears were forming in Dani's eyes while she softly said "Promise me you'll be careful, big brother."
Danny nodded "I will."
After a minute, both brother and sister broke the hug and Danny walked over to Raiden, joining his ghost-allies. In a flash of lightning, Raiden teleported them all away.
Meanwhile, back in the Ghost-Zone, Clockwork was watching his viewscreen, looking into what the future would hold for the new Ghost warriors. His eyes narrowed of what he saw. Although the future was not set in stone, he was worried for the survival of Earthrealm. But he knew that the fate of Earthrealm, the fate of the entire universe was in Danny Phantom's hands and his new ghost allies.
However… this tournament… would not go down the way anyone would expect….
A/N: There, I hope you all enjoyed the first chapter of my crossover between Danny Phantom and Mortal Kombat. The next chapter will focus on Danny and his ghost allies' training under the three Lin Kuei assassins and the Shaolin monks.
See you all then!
