Ashor, a level 2 adventurer, walked into the guild with Kaze his guardian. Having just reached level two and eager to see what his new stats felt like, he had taken a quest to investigate the sudden rise of monsters in the dungeon. Ashor specialized in healing and only had a few people who went into the dungeon with him, as his Familia was actually based in the Entertainment district running a small casino. He, as an adventurer, went constantly into the dungeon to make ends meet while the Casino was getting on his feet. His captain and the Executive Officer were doing different quests while the staff worked themselves to the bone running it at well below a skeleton crew.
However, the payout for this mission would last a decent amount, provided that the guild didn't claim he did enough.
Ashor turned in the quest and waited for his advisor, an elf named Sophie. He made it a point to thank Lady Isis for asking for an elf, Ashor's entire life, that he could remember, was one battlefield to the next with Lady Athena before he was sent to Orario it was nice to be able to speak with an elf, the only problem with the arrangement was that Sophie was not there to sip tea and talk about the forest. She had a job to do, much like he did. "Sorry that took so long." Sophie walked into the room with a stack of papers. Ashor paled. "Relax, these aren't for you." She set them on a desk and sighed. "They are for me."
"Yikes."
"It isn't that bad, I just have to file them. So, did you find anything unusual about the surge of monsters on the upper floors?"
"Unfortunately, nothing besides confirmation that there was a surge, no wads of baits, no unusual sounds or smells, not even an irregular. It was just a horde of goblins, not even kobolds. Wanted to retreat and call Orkbolg for help. I don't know if this needs to be mentioned but Lefiya from Loki Familia was there and got caught up in it. She wasn't injured but I carried her out."
"I'm certain they appreciate it. Your report mentions no kobolds this whole week. Almost like the dungeon is mass-producing goblins."
"And it is doing a great job. I heard a lot of low level adventurers have given up on going to the dungeon for now. I remember you stated the dungeon was to be treated as a living thing that can plan. If I was defending myself and could only make weak weapons, I would be sure to at least use them to tire out the stronger ones. That is my theory but I don't know much about the dungeon's mindset. I do, however, know that killing a single enemy is better than leaving them behind. If the dungeon wants to destroy Orario the less weak people we have, the less strong ones it will deal with later."
"I will make sure to note that." Sophie gave Ashor his reward. "We appreciate the aid you are giving us. Are you sure that you want to put all your reward into the account? I feel the need to mention an Entertainment Familia that works so well with the Guild is rare. Most will stay in the Entertainment District.
"And this money is to help us get on our feet. I'm not business savvy, so all my sister is telling me is that we are in the red and my job is to make money until we aren't."
"Should you really be going in there alone though?" Sophie asked. "You said you don't have a team to go with you since Yukihime, who is your sister I believe, and Selene van Triton, go to the lower levels. Is it really just you three?"
"One of our other fighters just had a kid so she is not allowed to adventurer, her husband is another, and his father is our Head of Security. There is no one in our Familia that can go besides myself and my summons."
"About that. I was unaware that you were a summoner. It is not a commonly used magic. The guild is offering a big reward for information on it. Also, we want to know more about what happened before you came to Orario."
"It isn't that interesting of a story but it is nice and time-consuming." Ashor leaned forward. "And how much of a reward are we talking about?" Sophie stated the number. "Bye."
"Wait!" Sophie sighed. She turned red when Ashor took off his armor and turned around. His back had scratches on it that matched common scratches from goblins, but what she was more interested in was the Shield with an owl inside it on his back. "Athena is involved."
"Athena is my goddess. I stated this when I enlisted, and she doesn't give out information freely."
"I thought you converted."
"No, just bunking. And you know that Lady Isis, the one I am bunking with, is also a safe haven, so you are not likely to be able to pay for this unless you can calm both of them. I'm not saying this to threaten you. I am just saying that I could be killed if I give this out."
"Do you have time later to meet?"
"Once I drop off the valli with my Familia I will have all the time I need. Kaze. Are we close enough for you to deliver it?" Kaze appeared without his helmet on revealing a white Bengal Tiger face and Brown eyes that seemed always itching for a fight.
"I should not leave your side."
"You do know that the guild employees don't have falna, right?" Ashor sighed. "And calm down, Sophie is an ally."
"OH." Any semblance of anger vanished and now with suddenly relaxed features. "Apologies, I was told to protect Ashor and I do believe this is our first meeting."
"It is, My name is Sophie, I am Ashor's Advisor."
"Can you advise him not to try to fight without summoning me. Just because he can throw a punch doesn't mean he should."
"You tried to bareknuckle fight the guild."
"Thanks, Kaze." Ashor sighed. "They were goblins and to be honest, the first time I punched one it was to get it to back off so I could focus on healing Kaze's wounds, as our roles indicate as I am a support type."
"And then he found out that he could defend himself and now I'm tripping over his combat junkie side."
"Supports level up slow. I don't want to stay a level 2 forever."
"Better than dying." Sophie replied.
"Thank you, Advisor."
"Stop teaming up on me. Just deliver the money to Lady Isis, you reach the casino provided I don't move from here, right?"
"I should be able to. Summon Hana if you need help."
"If there is a situation I have to summon Hana for, I am probably already dead."
Once Kaze left, Ashor sighed, "In the effort of keeping our alliance civil, I will summon my when he gets back. I can summon both of them at the same time, but will mind down in a minute and a half if I keep them both out."
"Well wait here, I need to speak with Royman about it."
"It may be best to ask Lord Ouranos, he would remember Athena and how she likes to minimize information leaks."
Sophie left and Ashor was forced to sit in the room and wait. As he sat there, staring off into space, he thought about what got him wrapped up with the gods.
Ashor's ancestors had sworn that their bloodline to always serve the Greek Gods and, in exchange for being blessed by the gods, their descendant would do what the gods asked. Ashor was an only child, so he was 'given' to the gods. Ashor had always feared the gods, creatures who came from a different realm and were so dangerous they were not allowed to use their powers. Ashor did not want to grow up in service to anyone else, he wanted to be free to practice his martial arts. Fate apparently did not care what he wanted. His first goddess was Hecate, goddess of the night and magic, apparently she had eagerly been waiting for the opportunity to teach him about Magic. Ashor was obviously disappointed and, as he was a child at the time, did not hesitate to make his introduction. "Can I have a different one?" Much to the dismay and fear of his parents, who raised their hand to discipline them only to have a rather large and angry dog stare at them.
"I'm going to teach you magic and you, in turn, are going to learn a new style that will fit your martial arts. As for you two, you know better." Hecate suddenly had three heads and all three looked like they were contemplating murder.
"Do all of them see and talk?" Ashor had asked and Hecate laughed from all three faces. "Cool."
"Unusual kid you have here. Since you don't want him, he's mine now."
"Ashor?" Sophie opened the door with Royman, and a figure in a black cloak that stood in the corner. "You know Royman, correct?"
"Yes, who is the one in all black?" Ashor asked and both Sophie and Royman blinked. "Please tell me it is with you. I know something that looks like that and it terrifies me."
"This is Fels." Royman stated, "And he works closely with our god."
"Ah so is he here to discuss pricing?"
"We need to know this information and we want to pay you but getting a hold of Athena is impossible for us as we don't know where she is."
"Probably in the East. She was heading there on a mission and since she hasn't sent me a new letter stating where she is heading, I assume she is still there."
"Why is she there?"
"Payment?" Ashor asked. "Unless you are giving me a blank check?"
"How much does it take to run the Casino for a month?"
"With the interest?" Ashor stated.
"We will pay to get you back in the black and pay for two months operating costs, but we want info on both the summoning you use, and Athena."
"I can do the summoning, as that is my ability and therefore I can read anyone in, but Athena is a different story."
"Why is that?"
"She's a goddess?" Ashor replied, confused. "Classified doesn't begin to describe the information you are asking for."
"Just the summoning for now, and we will pay you."
"Back!" Kaze replied as he appeared. "Oh, fat elf is here."
"He's technically my boss, Kaze." Ashor sighed. "I'm sorry."
"It is fine."
"This is one of my two summons, Kaze. Now, knowing Lady Isis."
"Here is our budget. And here is the minimum it would take. Sadly what we need more is personnel."
"Well they are going to deal with financial for two months and balancing the budget. Now, I want you to state your terms to Kaze here, and then one more time to Hana."
"The two summons, why?" Royman asked but Sophie was already looking at the budget with Kaze.
"First is so Kaze knows, and next so that the leader of the Spirits, Hana, is aware of the deal."
"Very well."
After Kaze agreed to it, he vanished and Ashor sighed, "Spirits of the East, guardians of the Imperial land, I humbly ask for your aid in my time of trouble. I Invoke your name, Seiryuu, the Blue Dragon and Guardian of the East, And your title, Leader of the Mythical Beasts." A flurry of leaves and where Kaze had vanished from stood a green haired elf with flowers in her hair and soft blue eyes.
"None of that chant matches what just appeared." Royman stated and was now staring at a large bluedragon.
"Better you tub of lard and uselessness."
"How's that anger management going, Hana?"
"Uh..." The dragon returned to looking like an elf and nervously fidgeted. "Sorry."
"So, want to insult what is probably the most powerful thing in the East save the divinities themselves?"
"How did you meet?" Sophie replied nervously.
"This story won't tell you much," Ashor admitted, "It was forced on me."
"Please continue." Royman sat down. "At the Guild we try to give quests with reward suitable to the skillset of the adventurer."
Ashor had been doing so much for the gods for so long that he didn't know what to do when his usual contacts had no work, so he had started walking, deciding that 'following the sun' was the best way to cast himself to fate. As he had travelled, he enjoyed the peace but missed having someone to talk to. He kept walking for weeks, stopping occasionally to restock and working as a mercenary or hired help to make ends meet. Many people were surprised that he had more strength than magical ability and Ashor did not want to state that he simply lacked the motivation to attempt self-taught magic, and he had no Falna so his strength was all he had.
It was a bright day when he finally reached the region called the Far East and he met Kaze and Hana, Hana in her elven form and Kaze with his helmet off so he could watch the area, which was what drew his eye since a War Tiger only had the ears, not a face of fur. He was at first going to walk by them until Kaze grabbed him and Ashor flipped him, just for him to land and punch Ashor in the gut before he could react. Ashor was had no Falna, so he had been lucky to survive but even then, this amount of force from someone was amazing. "I am Kaze, and this is my partner, Hana. We sense another god's scent on you but you do not bear their Kanji."
"Falna you jock. It is called Falna." Hana had sighed and rubbed her temple. "We were wondering if you would be willing to form a pact with us. Kaze and I are powerful spirits in charge of two different elements. However, we are also on the run from the direction you are going, if you can take us out of here, in exchange we will...serve...you as summons."
"Summoning hasn't been used viably in eons, and I am trying to make myself as versatile as possible."
"Seeing as how you couldn't talk until a second ago, I don't think it is working." Kaze replied. "I will train your body so you can at least hold your own if you accept."
"And I doubt you will be happy with just being a teacher."
"I also wish to be your shield."
"Okay, Reinhart." Ashor rolled his eyes. "As for you Hana, what will I get. You are an elven spirit so I'm guessing earth magic?"
"Um...IM not a standard elf. I just like the fair skin. Kaze will train your body, but..." After a single punch from Hana sent Kaze skidding back and clutching his gut much like Ashor had, Ashor decided that summoning these two were worth it, but first, he needed to drink a potion. "Sorry, I have power but little control." Hana admitted.
"I noticed." Ashor sat up. "So do you have a destination?"
"West." Kaze stated. "We are looking for a goddess called Athena, as she is a goddess of Defensive type wars, We figured she would accept our strength."
"Athena is from the Greek District. I guess it is as good as any. I want to see the Far East, however."
"Not a good time, trust me. Things that were supposed to be sealed are not and one of the gods there turned traitor and wants to destroy anyone not on his side."
"Wow that takes me back." Ashor sighed. "So, will this summon thing count towards raising my magic stat, and hopefully give me the mage skill?"
"It will be a type of magic but to lower the cost of it, it will be best if you only take Kaze for now. Kaze stated his terms were to use him to keep you safe, he loves the idea of being a guardian. You have to state yours if you want this contract to work out properly."
"If he and you are both strength based, I want your word that this will raise my magic stat."
"Just having us out will cost mind energy, which in turn will raise your magic stat." Kaze stated.
"You will train me in EVERYTHING you can, no matter how pointless you feel it is, starting with your fighting skill."
"You shall be my master, and I shall be your minion." Kaze's voice took a more authoritative tone. "I will teach you all I know and you will serve as a house for our body."
"That's it? They found you?" Royman asked.
"I warned you." Ashor stated. "Hana is tightlipped about what exactly they were running from, but the going theory is that it was one of the other members."
"If this will help Ashor I will continue this."
"Finally we are getting somewhere."
"Just because I chose an elven form doesn't mean-"
"Hana. Story." Ashor sighed and patted the seat next to him. Hana sat next to him and with more force than was needed, put Ashor's head on her lap like he was a child.
The Mythical Beasts had always been in the Lower World, but it took the god's descent to make them able to walk into towns without causing problems. White Tiger, Red Phoenix, Black Tortoise, and Blue Dragon, all four of them enjoyed the popularity and the fact that now they were free to mingle directly. They were given a place of prestige as guardian spirits. Seiryuu was the leader and took to her job with great pride. Byakko protected the outskirts of the city, while Genbu and Suzaku protect both the sky and the ocean.
However, the sea was Susano-o's domain and he was not pleased with someone coming in and claiming to be his guardian. Genbu simply vanished the next day and after constant begging and offerings, Susano stated that Genbu would be released as soon as the remaining Mythical beasts were gone. Part out of worry for their brother, the other part worried for the people, Seiryuu and Byakko agreed to leave, however Suzaku refused to budge on the matter, claiming that she would not just let Genbu be released 'at a later date' citing the time he went to say goodbye to Amaterasu and ended up destroying a large section of her land.
This only served to irritate Susano more and caused a storm to strike Suzaku down and he took her two. "This one will not be released. If she claims she is so great, she will stay here. Such bright feathers ought to make for a fine pillow."
"After that we simply left, we didn't even pack we did not want to risk it. The two of us survived and left our siblings to their fate. We just left." Hana clenched her fist. "I only hope at least Genbu got released. If Genbu got released we may have a chance of rescuing Suzaku."
"So after that you met Ashor."
"By sheer luck we met someone with an affinity. Kaze and I were arguing about where to go when he walked up. After that we went with Athena and spent the next 90 some odd years with her."
"What did you do there?" Fels asked and Hana just glared. "Thought it was worth a try."
"There are two things Kaze and I are here for, one is to gather resources in exchange to hire Athena to help us go back home, the other is laying on my lap trying not to fall asleep."
"Sorry, I'm tired." Ashor sat up. "You are very relaxing to be around." Hana smiled and the room forgot for a moment that this was a mythical dragon sitting across from them. "We should probably get going."
Ashor and Hana walked back to the Gift of the Nile Casino they lived at and entered through the side door, waving at Rubedo, the red haired Renard Guard they had. He bowed formerly to Hana who told him, for the thousandth time, that she was only an elf here. The path to where the Familia headquarters were at was underground and the center of the casino was the main area for the Familia. This was done to make it difficult to find as it was near impossible for anyone in the casino area to make it to where the Familia was. Because of this there were two ways to speak with Lady Isis, one was to be a member of Familia and use the side door, and the second was called the Fool's Errand, which was try to navigate the side rooms to find your way. Apparently a lot of the Egyptian District had things like this in their buildings. Ashor had wanted to try it once, but just looking at the map itself made his head hurt. Apparently, the basement of the casino had literally nothing in it besides Familia members trained at combat. Ashor mentioned that they should move some of the defenses into the foreground so they weren't overstaffed but Lady Isis was more interested in protecting her Familia. She claimed that the Casino was merely a front.
"Well the front is running out of cash."
"Are you still going on about that?" A slender, Athletic human asked as he approached. "We aren't in danger of being closed down and if you have time to explain you have time to do another mission."
"I just finished one and got us some breathing room." Ashor tapped the girl on the head with the rolled up parchment stating the deal he had with the Guild. "So you can go be Tsundere somewhere else, Yukihime."
"I am your captain."
"Ok Captain Tsundere." Ashor replied. "How did your date with Selene go?"
"I want a date that doesn't involve combat the entire time." Yukihime read it. "This gives us time but I don't know what happens after that."
"Me neither. Where is Selene?"
"She is bathing, we got hit pretty hard today. How did you get this?"
"Told them about how I met the spirits and revealed the reason why they left."
"Ugh, they are so nosy."
"I just hope they aren't going to do anything stupid with the information."
"I doubt it."
"Hello." Another girl walked up to the two and immediately hugged Yukihime. "Um...Are you okay? You...were late."
"I'm fine, Selene." Ashor smiled and she hid behind Yukihime. "So hard to believe you are a level above me and terrifying in battle."
"Battle is easier than talking." Selene said into Yukihime's back.
"Yukihime is frozen and red again."
"Shut up!" Yukihime turned away. "You have things to do, don't you?"
"So do you." Ashor replied. "Don't worry, you two never came up. I know better."
"Thank you." Selene replied.
Two Level threes and when they are together act like a skittish kitten. Ashor had to admit he was jealous. He had never had the chance to have romance, he wasn't even familiar with that entire genre. It had always been what the gods wanted, only in the few days when he was travelling did he have a chacne to consider what he wanted but all he could decide was to head east because he had not seen that region, and he had gotten wrapped upwith Hana and Kaze then Athena, who held onto him for 90 years before sending him to Orario to begin the final phase of the Greek deities plan.
As far as Ashor knew, none of the gods in Orario were in on this plan, this was put together but the gods that stayed behind in heaven to circulate the souls. Sadly, that also meant that Ashor wasreally the only one in on their plan, making gathering information very difficult. The information he had on this project was wholly innocuous, but he had been told not to reveal it to anyone. "What is so bad about it? What are they not telling me?" Ashor sat at the table with a small bowl of seafood and idly picked at it as he wrote what had happened that day. Tomorrow he had the option of going to the dungeon or staying at the Casino, which meant he was going to the dungeon tomorrow. It would be easy to skip out of work if Ashor had made a single friend outside of the family, but that was not likely to happen. Maybe he could go into the dungeon just to go into the dungeon. Time with Hana was always fun. Ashor couldn't wrap his head around the fact that the kind, motherly, Hana was the embodiment of power and a dragon.
"You should go to bed, it is already dark out." Hana shut the curtains and was about three seconds from carrying Ashor to bed by herself.
"Is Kaze okay?"
"Oh my gosh!" Hana channeled a little of her energy to make an image appeared of a giant white tiger spinning around chasing his tail. "I teased him and said if he could catch his tail in tiger mode that I would go out with him and he has been spinning since."
"Aren't you two married?" Ashor asked and Hana giggled. "Are you sure you are a dragon?"
